just listening to gerard fitzgerald ballarats coach .
he seems to think that the ballarat side will outrun the tigers .
and that the tigers are quite tall and the conditions wont suite us.
-
Hardly a tall team.
Besides the ruckmen in Carts and Gus, the only other big tall is Putty.
Silvester, Rance and Keogh will all be fine in wet conditions.
Big return for Raines also, will be interesting to see how he goes.
-
No sign of Cleve :(. You would think Connors would be in the starting 18 if he is right. Perhaps he may miss another week with that hammy?
How did the NB coach get that Coburg are a tall side with JON named at CHF and Danny at FF :o ???.

Bump!!

Coburg ressies won by 5 points after being 40 points down midway through the 3rd quarter. Collard kicked the winning goal. With thanks to bg25.

bg25 says it's a very scrappy and muddy game. Tivs, Rance and Cogs are playing ok. No real standouts yet no one real bad. Standard is poor because of the conditions.

I hope bg25's thoughts are closer to the truth than the VFL site's list. Please no Tivs or Howat. Polo for mine was unlucky to be dropped for Jacko in the first place so good to hear bg25 thought he was in the Burgers' bests.

interesting to see myles sewell get best for ballarat.
he played for coburg last year and is having a good season for the roosters.
l was hoping he would be a rookie ,still only young maybe they might take notice this year .

Got this from a poster on another forum. Happy to pass on link and details if required.
Just a few thoughts on the game from a cold and windy Ballarat. North Ballarat were too good and controlled the game throughout and won by 39 points. The first quarter was fairly even, with North having an 8 point lead at the first break. Angus kicked the first goal of the game, and
Cogs also kicked a goal. It was a fairly scrappy game, with the windy conditions making it difficult to spot up targets.
They were dropping their big ruckman Stephenson back across half back, and in true Tiger style, we seemed to find him with many of our forward entries! The Roosters were a little too good in the second quarter, kicking 3 goals to one, to take a handy 4 goal lead into the main
break. This quarter contained lots of play between the half back lines, but we were struggling to get much run happening, and North looked the
more dangerous going forward.
The third quarter saw the game open up a little more. Andrew Raines was more prominent in this quarter, and we at least looked a little more
dangerous when moving forward. JON was providing a decent target across half forward, but he couldn't hit Pamela Anderson on the chest if she
was leading towards him 20 metres away. JON got a free 15 metres out directly in front, which would have brought Coburg back within a couple
of goals near 3/4 time, but he kicked out of bounds on the full. I suspect the goal umpire may sue JON for tearing a hamstring as he tried
desparately to get across to his right to signal a score as the ball sailed past the behind post :-)
We were 20 points down at the final break, but the boys were confident in the huddle, saying they thought their run would provide the
difference. Jade Rawlings gave JON a massive pump up, saying how much of an impact he was having on the game. He kept a straight face as he was saying it, which was even more impressive :-) He did add that the set shot at goal JON had "wasn't the greatest he had ever seen"!
Andrew Raines and Dan Conners were getting some pretty serious work on their back and hammy areas in the breaks. David King and Brian Royal were in the huddle, and Kingy was into Tristen Cartledge's ear, and Rawlings asked him for the biggest quarter of the season so far to get
us home. We started well, and kicked three of the first four goals to be a bit of a chance, but then the Roosters kicked the last five goals
to run out convincing winners.
There were few players to stand out over the game, but conditions were tough. We must make a ruckman a priority in this draft (if not one
through the national draft and one in the rookie draft), as it is a glaring weakness. Stephenson was far too strong for Gus when he was in
there, and Cartledge is simply not an AFL ruckman.
A few thoughts on the Tiger listed players:
Raines - got a bit of it in the middle stages of the game, and seemed to be moving ok. May get a call up by the end of the year. I think is
he contracted for 2009, which will be a massive year for him.
Polo - Rawlings said he had been moved around a lot, but didn't see a heap of action.
Rance - came on in the second half and moves well. Got a decent build, and I like the look of him and his approach to his footy.
Putt - took a nice mark and kicked a goal. Needs to borrow 10kg from Ryan O'Connor, who was in the huddle, but seems to move well, and I am
happy to have a ruck prospect in the "oven cooking".
Meyer - didn't see too much of it. Was hoping he had a good one to demand a game back in his home state next week. He may still get a call
up based on previous good form, but he didn't demand a spot today.
Cogs - he seemed to play most of the game, kicked an early goal from reasonable distance, and spent plenty of time getting his hands dirty.
Any thing we get from Cogs is a bonus, but he is looking ok.
JON - refer earlier comments above. Tries hard, great enthusiasm, but just doesn't look like an AFL player to me.
Hyde - got a bit of it, ran the lines, tried to sell a few dummies, was ok, but looks like a man who realises he is done and dusted at AFL
level.
Tivers - good at this level, would have had 20+ possessions, most to advantage, but would only get a game if it is a farewell game in round
22.
Silvester - does a good defensive job, but his skills are shocking. Kicked in from full back in the second quarter straight to Spolding
about 15 metres out for an easy goal. Nowhere near AFL standard.
Cartledge - lifted in the last quarter, but we appeared to be smashed out of the centre and clearances, and I thought Stephenson was one of
their best.
Conners - did a few things, tried a fancy handpass in the second quarter which was picked off by the Roosters. Every time I see him, I
think this kid could be good if he ever gets fit!
Collins - was expecting him to get more of it. I would be interested to know how many possessions he had. Seems to move well, but didn't get a
heap of it. We may see him later in the year, if only to increase our number of debuts for the year!
Howat - runs hard, and turns on his left foot every time. A good trier, but please, please, please, don't rookie him again!
Graham - looked ok up forward, but was just pushed aside in the ruck contests. Happy for him to have another year to develop to see if he
will become an AFL player, but he is fair way off now.
Spotted Michael Roach watching Tommy play. He still looks in great shape! Not a great day for the Burgers, but looking forward to seeing
how we shape up in Mcleod's 300th on Sunday!

Smokey,
Please supply the link to where this came from.
Firstly, it is common internet courtesy and secondly failure to do is plagarism.

With all due respect WP, I don't need a lesson on common internet courtesy. I believe my conduct on this forum will attest to that. I offered the link for anyone that was interested - you have asked - here it is:
http://sports.groups.yahoo.com/group/tiger-talk/message/87375
And plagiarism?
From the Dictionary.com website:
1. the unauthorized use or close imitation of the language and thoughts of another author and the representation of them as one's own original work.
2. something used and represented in this manner.
Or from the Webster site:
transitive verb : to steal and pass off (the ideas or words of another) as one's own : use (another's production) without crediting the source intransitive verb : to commit literary theft : present as new and original an idea or product derived from an existing source
Please point out where I did anything of the sort.

Smokey,
I didn't mean to offend and at no point was being critical of your conduct on the forum. You offered to post the link if it was required I simply asked for you to do that and tried to explain why.
Perhaps my explanation didn't come across the right way :-\
I refer to point 2 our posting guidelines which may explain it better
2. Plagiarism: will not and cannot be allowed. If you are posting threads that are direct copies from other sites (eg Real Footy, RFC website etc) and this includes other “unofficial” sites you must quote the source/link. Also, we request that if you use information from this site as discussion topics on other forums that you quote OER as the source and post the appropriate link. Due to legal requirements failure to quote the correct source/link will result in the post being either edited if we can locate the source or removed.

I agree at no point did you claim the words you posted as your own nor did I accuse you of plagiarism
But being the grey area that plagiarism is especially on internet forums, we always err on the side of caution request links
As I said all I tried to do was explain why a link needed to be posted.
Again I apologise if I offended that was not my intent

All good WP. I probably over-reacted and I see your point. I'll post the link in future and then no need for any concern. :thumbsup

Shame those we'd hope could push up for selection after some good VFL form in recent weeks - Connors, Meyer, Gus - were fairly quiet by the sound it. All probably showing they need a full preseason.

Any news on Dean Putt?

Match Report Vs. North Ballarat
by Glenn Robertson
coburgtigers.com.au
The boys lined up against North Ballarat on Sunday at Austar Arena. The Roosters sat atop of the ladder and were slight favourites heading into the game, although the Burgers had a strong team in, with a number of Richmond listed players in the line-up.
Unfortunately Coburg’s brilliant run over the past couple of weeks came to an end as the boys were beaten by a fired up North Ballarat side. In a fairly low scoring game the Burgers were behind for most of the day and ended up six goals in the rear when the final siren sounded.
Jarrod Silvester continued on his brilliant mid year patch of form with a fine display holding down the backline. The score line could have be a lot worse had it not been for Silvester and James Keogh at Centre Half Back, as the two put a halt to many forward surges from the Roosters.
¼ Time: Coburg 2.2 (14) North Ballarat 3.4 (22)
The Burgers had their lowest scoring first half for the year, as they had only booted three majors in the first half. But the good side of it was the backline had held up really well and only let through six goals due to their immense pressure.
Greg Tivendale was again pivotal for Coburg, and Cam Howat also played well, his pressure around the ball was superb. The Tigers went into half time four goals down.
½ Time: Coburg 3.2 (20) North Ballarat 6.8 (44)
The Burger boys came out fired up in the third term, and in a very physical quarter only three goals were kicked; two of them by Coburg. Nick Carnell could be found at the bottom of almost every pack that formed and also collected a lot of the ball. Christian McErlain was also a standout player in one of his best games for the season.
The boys came out of the three quarter time huddle confident they could pull off a victory.
¾ Time: Coburg 5.6 (36) North Ballarat 7.14 (56)
The Roosters showed why they were the top team in the final term, as they added six goals for the quarter and shut out any sniff of a victory that the Burgers had.
Angus Graham was Coburg’s only multiple goal kicker, as he mad the most of his opportunities pushing forward to kick two majors.
Although the boys lost, they showed enough to suggest they will be a major threat come finals time, and that they could match it with the best. The Burgers are back at home this week, ABD Group Stadium, on Saturday against the Northern Bullants starting at 2pm. The match will be of high importance with finals just around the corner, as both teams are on 32 points.
Coburg Tigers 2.2 3.2 5.6 8.9 (57)
North Ballarat 3.4 6.8 7.14 13.18 (96)
Goal Kickers: A. Graham 2, M. Coughlan, N. Carnell, P. Shelton, J. Gazzo, D. Putt, A. Collins
Best Players: J. Silvester, J. Keogh, N. Carnell, G. Tivendale, C. McErlain, C. Howat
RESERVES
The Reserves had their tightest match o f the season on Sunday, coming away with only a five point win. But for most of the game even that looked unlikely. The boys found themselves 28 points down at three quarter time, but prevailed in a gutsy win after a fantastic last quarter.
Nick Liddle and Nat Caruso were standout players for the Burgers while Clayton Collard and Josh Jones kicked seven majors between them
Coburg Tigers 1.3 3.5 6.10 12.15 (87)
North Ballarat 4.0 5.2 12.2 13.4 (82)
Goal Kickers: C. Collard 4, J. Jones 3, N. Caruso 2, N. Lynch, P. Currie, T. Dulic
Best Players: N. Caruso, N. Liddle, C. Collard, S. Robertson, T. Dulic, N. Cattapan
