Title: VFL finals
Post by: cub on August 12, 2008, 12:28:23 AM
An AFL listed player must have played 7 or more games to play in finals.

Can anyone list who qualifies for Coburg ???

May do a backflip on my best 22 play for the seniors here and give some of the kids that have missed so far a taste before they get to VFL finals action, drop some of the ones back that need extra games to qualify and let them have a good run in september.

Better off having some tatse of finals footy together than sitting in the stands and obviously not being to selfish giving me something to get a little excited about in September.

Then again we could knock the Hawks off this week, hey don't laugh young sides are spasmodic  :pray

Anyway original ?

Can anyone list who qualifies for Coburg ???

So if Cogs plays for Coburg this week he is eligible to play finals? Hmmm.

There's 3 rounds to go, no byes left, so quite a few below the line can still qualify

Not sure if injured players get exemptions or if reserves games count

There are exemptions for players that have been injured.

I am not 100% sure on them but would say Cogs would already be qualified.

Can someone have a crack at a likely finals side that may be available assuming the one's dont make the finals ??  I havent seen enough of the boys to comment....

12/10 rule applies in finals - so only 12 will be able to play finals

Unless Richmond are in the finals ;D then that rule doesn't kick in I believe. Not 100% sure though

I read somewhere (I think it was vflfooty.com) that Coburg were around the $15-$18 mark for the flag prior to last weekend

I thought that would be the case but wasn't sure

As for the 12/10 rule, there are 15 players that qualify on seniors games alone, 3 more from reserves games plus possibly Edwards if he plays next weekend. So out of those 18/19, a few will need to remain at Coburg reserves for their premiership.

Is there a limit on RFC players for the Reserves?

I don't think there's a games limit, as long as you are eligible for Coburg you can play in either side
Highlighted by Hughes playing in the Coburg Reserves grand final last year

I was thinking more of a total number of players limit?

Thanks for the input dudes.

Big ask for the Burgers to get top 4

Willy should do the Bees
Skunks BIG ask to do the Scorpians
Then of course we need to beat Bendigo.

Have a feeling we could still give this thing a shake from the bottom 4. :thumbsup

The actual criteria is long and technical.

21. PARTICIPATION IN FINALS

21.1 Players who have not played at least one (AFL or VFL) Senior or Reserve match in the relevant season shall be ineligible to play in the Senior Grade Finals.

21.2 Players who have played with the AFL Senior team of any AFL Club after the 1st day of July in the relevant season shall be ineligible to play in the VFL Senior or VFL Reserve Grade Finals unless they have played a total of at least seven (7) Senior or Reserve VFL matches in the same season.

21.3 Players who have not played at least two (2) VFL Reserve Grade matches in the relevant season shall be ineligible to play in the VFL Reserve Grade Finals save where immediately prior to selection, a listed player has missed through injury, at least ten (10) consecutive home & away matches of the VFL football season and his club remains active in the senior VFL Finals series.

21.4 Players who have played in more than eight Senior VFL Grade matches shall not be eligible to play in Final Series matches of the VFL Reserve Grade unless they have played in at least six matches of the VFL Reserve Grade.

21.5 Notwithstanding the provisions of Rule 21 when a Club has each of its Senior Grade (AFL or VFL) and Reserve Grade (AFL or VFL) teams engaged on the same day, (or consecutive days) the selection of players in the two teams shall be unrestricted, provided a player has participated in at least one (AFL or VFL) Senior Grade or Reserve Grade match in that relevant season.

21.6 Notwithstanding the provisions of Rule 21 when an AFL Club is still qualified to participate in the AFL Finals Series, all such AFL Club listed players shall be eligible to be selected for a team participating in either the VFL Senior or VFL Reserve grade Finals Series game provided that such player has played at least 1 game in the VFL Senior Grade or missed through injury at least 8 consecutive Home and Away matches of either the AFL or VFL Season.

21.7 Not withstanding the provisions of Rule 21, a minimum of 10 VFL listed players must be selected in the VFL Senior finals team for all VFL Finals matches (excluding VFL Club(s) who do not field a VFL Reserve grade team).

21.8 Not withstanding the provisions of Rule 21.7, should additional AFL listed players qualify to participate in the VFL Final Series, all such AFL listed players will be eligible to be selected for a team participating in the VFL Reserve Grade Finals provided that player has played at least one game in the VFL Senior Grade or missed through injury at least 8 consecutive Home and Away matches of either the AFL or VFL Season.

21.9 Not withstanding the provisions of Rule 21, when an AFL Club is eliminated from the AFL Final Series on the same weekend as the VFL Grand Final, AFL listed players must qualify for selection under Regulation 21.2.

21.10 Not withstanding the provisions of Rule 21, for a VFL Club(s) who do not field a VFL Reserve Grade team in the competition, AFL listed players must qualify players under Regulation 21.2 and must have played not more than 12 AFL games to be eligible to play in VFL finals matches.

21.11 Not withstanding the provisions of Rule 21, for a VFL Club(s) who do not field a VFL Reserve Grade team in the competition, when an AFL Club has completed the AFL Home and Away season or is eliminated from the AFL Final Series, a minimum of 10 VFL listed players must be selected in the VFL Senior finals team for all VFL Finals matches. The balance of the 10 VFL listed players can comprise of AFL veterans listed and AFL rookie listed have qualified under Rule 21.10 and VFL listed players who have qualified under Rule 21.1.

Imfamy,

Are you suggesting that the kids who've played for the Coburg ressies all season, got them to the top of the ladder without losing a game should miss out on a shot at a premiership so some RFC blokes can play in a grand final?

I don't think that's fair at all  :thumbsup

Post by: Infamy on August 25, 2008, 02:57:01 PM
I'm just pointing out that there are a lot of Richmond players that qualify for both sides

It will have to be balanced, the fact that only 12 can play for the Coburg seniors will have a flow on effect to the reserves, it's happened throughout the season when the 12/10 rule has been in place, so can't see why it shouldn't also happen in finals.

So does that mean North Ballarat (Roos), Willy (Dogs) and Casey (Saints) will have unlimited AFL listed players while their AFL affiliate is still in the finals as well? Makes the VFL finals unfair when one side can have unlimited numbers against another restricted by the 12/10 rule. Geelong had a massive advantage from the start in the Granny last year because of it.

Yep, that's the case and yep it sucks
I reckon we would have been a real shot at winning that GF if Geelong had the 12/10 rule in place as well

It hurts the VFL too. They've set up the GF at the Dome this year to build up the crowds to the second tier of Victorian footy and yet they keep a rule that dumb downs the quality of many of the teams and makes the competition unfairly uneven. Collard could kick another bag of goals against Bendigo this week yet not play one VFL final because of the 12/10 rule and the fact he's still a rookie. So much for helping his development when you think of the boost Jack, Moore and others got last year from playing in the VFL finals.

Now that Richmond has a lot more influence over the Coburg side with Jade Rawlings as coach, you wonder if preference will be given to players who will be at Tigerland next year. I'm sure guys like Tivendale will play as he'll help win them the flag, but will Howat get preference over Casserly or Collard? Will the performance of Graham & Cartledge in the finals go a way towards deciding who we will keep next year?
Hyde hasn't played lately, but will he play instead of someone like Collins?

Will be interesting to see how it all pans out

Hyde will play if available so will Howat.

Howat was sensational against Casey last week.

Hyde has also done some great lock down roles playing at Coburg.

One player that will hopefully benefit the reserves team if he is fit is Dean Putt. He will be a very handy addition if he can overcome his knee problem.

He was fantastic last week was Cam Howat.

I think he missed a couple of the 12/10 games because he was injured MT
