This could be the most important game of our 2009 season.
Richmond v Melbourne could be the least interesting game of 2008 after the AFL’s decision to let Sydney keep two points from its 19-man draw, which means the Tigers can’t get into the eight barring a miracle (although that might be irrelevant by Sunday anyway if the Swans beat Brisbane).
But we should look at this game as the first of 2009. After the final siren on Sunday we won’t play again until March next year - so we will carry all the positives, or negatives, for six months.
With that in mind, we should be out to crush the Demons. I do feel a little sorry for them, but you have to kick teams when they’re down. Hell, everyone has jumped at the chance to do that to us over the past two decades.
A loss would put a big dent in our 2009 campaign, but I really can’t see that happening. And I don’t want us to fall over the line as we did against Fremantle, either.
A big margin would be great, but more important is the way we go about it. Let’s see some dash and daring, some flowing attacking play that will give us something to hang on to over the long summer.
I’d like to get a look at Alex Rance, but it’s hard to see how he will squeeze on to the bench. We’ll find out later today.
Finally, a thank-you and goodbye to Greg Tivendale. Not every player can be a star and he gave plenty of years of service to the Richmond Football Club. It would be nice to see him take a long, bouncing run down the wing on Sunday and kick one of those signature left-foot goals. Maybe he could get on the end of a kick-out from Jordan McMahon, his heir in the looking-a-million-dollars-when-he-kicks-but-somehow-makes-unbelievable-mistakes department.
It’s a little sad that Tivvers is going to put his hand up to play again next year. Face reality and enjoy your last game, mate. And thanks for the memories.
Eat em alive!

Stay away from Freo even in tipping comps :banghead.
The bookies are giving the Eagles a line of 72 points at $1.90 :gobdrop

Some caller on 3aw today was claiming Richo was ringing up people offering free? I think it was junior tickets to tomorrow's game.
Not sure why anyone from the RFC would do that for a Melbourne home game and it sounded like the caller was just another Richmond-obsessed Hawk supporter who can't get tickets to tonight's Carlton v Hawthorn game.
-
I hope you got a collect last night CUB.
Unless they get Sydney the pies are out 1st week, and they'll even struggle against the swans.
-

-
Jordie hospital handpass to Lids and the turnover gives the Dees the lead :banghead
-
Jordie dragged by Wallace :yep

Lids marks between 2 Melbourne defenders and goals. 18 inside 50s to 6 yet we're only back in front.
16 - 13
-
Jack point. 19 inside 50s.
17 - 13
-
Heavy rain now.
1/4 time siren ends a forgettable quarter. Melbourne flooding in front of Richo, Jack and Morton. We're winning every stat but didn't convert it onto the scoreboard.

Smashing them in the clearances and inside 50s (35-14).
Tuck, Foley and Cotch. Connors has been good. Jacko was very good that quarter. Tivs getting a lot of it and doing well in his final game. Bowden, Newy and our defence doing as they please picking off the Dees.

-
Richo then not paid a clear mark and no free kick either after being crunched. Richo off for a spell. He wanted to stay on but the doc pulled him off.
-
These umps have no idea. Seriously umpiring is in crisis if they can't if get the simple decisions right. Why did we get Ellis two weeks in a row :scream.
Jack marks it in the centre and passes it to Bowden up forward. Goal :gotigers

Goals: Deledio 4, Bowden 3, Riewoldt 2, Jackson 2, Morton, McMahon, Tuck, Foley, Tivs, White, Connors
Did what we needed to do. Smashed the Dees as we hand over the spoon to them.
Nice of Joel to go over to Holland and give him a hug.
-
Toss up between Newy setting things up as a general across HB and Tuck in the guts for bog. Joel good again at both ends. Lids had a field day. Good to see Foley back in top form. Cotch is unbelievable for an 18 year old but we already knew that :thumbsup. Hard to find a bad Tiger apart from nothing going right for poor old Richo with no thanks to the umps ::).
You've got to love how many run down tackles of Melbourne players we had today.
-
Tuck again for me was great, wouldn't surprise me in the least if he wins the Jack.
Tivs did some good things, but didn't make enough of his opportunities to make me think he has another year. Still, a good way to go out, good on you Tivs.

They should have played the Benny Hill Show theme music over the PA today when Melbourne had the ball.
Where I was sitting (MCC members) heaps of demons fans didn't reappear after half time.
