Went to a friend's place the other day and I asked how they rated the season.
They said, we would have made the finals if the club hadn't dropped Bowden.
Not sure of that, because at the time he wasn't playing well.
So how they would think he would make a difference at that time is beyond me.
But he does have his fans
I'm not one of them, but I think he's had an average to good year.
If it wasn't for the games he supposedly won the games for us ::) just an average year.
So average to good year.

Average yes but so has been his career. :-\

What about the whole,"I'm not doing interviews" episode.

God forbid he be asked about his ineptness in a public situation......

A year of two halves. Poor first few games (think back to the Collingwood game) until he got dropped but he's been good in the second half of the year since coming back into the side. 3 crucial excellent last quarters that scored us wins the close games.

If Joel can't do a full preseason like he supposedly hasn't for the past 4-5 years (according to Wallace) then we'll go through the whole 'Bowden struggling early on in the year' again until he gets his match fitness up.

Perhaps the club would not have had such a good year and started to turn things around if Terry had not shaken things up and dropped Joel and Petts after our round 3 loss to Collingwood.
Look I feel Joel has been good in the forward line this year and his tempo footy slowing the game down is detrimental to the team especially in the last 5 mins of matches yet he has had the last say in a few games also. Should be used in the forward line from now on. Overall he has been good since he has come back but there are qualities in his game still that are still a little self absorbing and selfish.

Had a very good last month or so, but just like his first B&F, it wouldn't have happened unless he'd been dropped.

I'm an old fashioned football supporter i guess and I hate his slowing down of the games and his kicking backwards tactics....but they did win some games for us and for that I am grateful and it showed football smarts that we needed on that particular day to win that particular game. If it wasnt for him we would be further out of the eight than we ended up. I, personally might not like it, but it got us as a team where we are now so....thanks Joel  :gotigers

Bowden is 100% richmond, u losers who hate him forget that.

Not like our captain who came over for money.

BOWDEN and RICHO should retire when they blood/y well feel like it. They are dead set guns.

Bowden would come close to winning the B&F if it was decided on the last half of the year.

Im very proud of the way he has played footy this last 2 months. Legend he is

Yes this loser thinks Bowden has had a great finish to the season but an very ordinary start. As long as he is kept out of the Backline where he loves to slow down the play, chip backwards and be unaccountable and placed to the Forwardline where his excellent kicking is a weapon - he will remain an asset to the team. If not - bring on the youth!

If he was a rookie people would want him delisted.

My biggest problem with him is the complacency he exudes, even when he is playing
crap footy.

It's as though the team gets switched into joel mode, meaning his seniority at the club
takes on an almost captaincy role at times during the final minutes if the 3rd and last qtr,
which, considering he is an average player,is disturbing.

Average season 6/10

it is hard to take your opinion seriously when it is clear you despise this guy whatever he does. I partly agree but only the inconsistency bit. He is laconic but not complacent they are easily confused.

ric - what did he actually say that was so offensive? You may not agree with his stance on Bowden but he hasn't said anything that was particularly insulting.

I'm not a big Bowden fan myself but I have to say he was an asset to the team up the ground in the last part of the season. Hope he can keep in up in 2009.

Without Joel (The Governator) Bowden in the back line we would have finished off. in a far worse position than we did. He bleeds Yellow and Black. By far a worthy person to become a legend at the Tigers. He has done us proud.

One thing about Joel is he can certainly polarise the masses.

Serious answer I'll give him a high six 7/10 not a low 8.

Can't stand the stop and marshall the troops thing when in my opinion it does not need to be done.
Sometime it does and all teams do it, just don't like it and he and sugar moreso do it too much.

I spew when he gives away free points also, just don't find it a proper mentality of 'give them nothing'!

Believe his laconic way is just the way he is, a perfect example yesterday when he took on 3 dees in the middle of the G and looked like he was going in slow mo, but he was just too good and drove us into attack. He is a natural footballer and can get away with it most of the time.

Not that the Dees are much competition, actually they are total krape (so are their supporters for that matter) :rollin

Anyway like I said a 7 and a keeper for next year.

After all the differences in opinion about how good or bad Bowden has been this season you both give him the same rating anyway essentially agreeing on how good Bowden's year was.  Pretty amusing really.

thats my honest assessment on Joel where Brackets well he just gives out numbers like his gayness
Joel played a top second half of the year & was above average in his games so a 6 is warranted
Tuck who will win the B&F would get a 8 1/2 & Moore a close behind 8 has had a great year  :clapping

Very interesting rating from TigerMonk, personally I wouldn't be happy with a 6/10 from one of our leaders and more senior players. That's the rating that I'd give Bowden also, his first half of the season would have been a 4/10 and the last half maybe a 7.5/10
Some of the efforts he was credited in were completely blown out of proportion considering his efforts earlier in the game contributed to our opposition still being in the game. He certainly improved his efforts around the ground later in the year and as long as he doesn't play in the backline next year then I guess I won't mind too much if he plays on.

He's effectively a free player next year as he's the only other veteran eligible to be outside our list so he's not taking the spot of another kid on the list (only another rookie)

its a good effort for a 30 year old player who again played well yesterday & continues to prove you wrong in your attack against him
how many games does he have to prove himself before you give him credit
your not a Richmond supporter at all

I am a Bowden fan and I give him a 6/10 only because he had a couple of bad ones early in the season and missed a few. The last 8 weeks I would give him a 8/10.

Many of you say you dont like the way he play as he looks lazy etc. To me he looks classy and natural. You rave about how Cotchin just crusies though and looks classy but cant see the same skill in a older player because he had been given the role as a backline general.

Its funny, to a newbie poster we must look feral. I dont see to many topics where somebody isnt having a go at another posters IQ, Sexuality, Education, lack of AFL experince etc etc etc.  Wonder how many read and dont post becasue of this???

l would say quite a few posters ol fluffy tiger
agree Bowden played a great last half of the year & your comments about his style are spot on
His pure class & any team would love to have such a player in thier team. Joel ability to lose his opponant by moving from end to end & yesterday he caused havoc at both ends.
Joel ability will see him at the club for a few more seasons which l think will benefit the club & the younger players
Cotchin well his just a natrual

I have been a staunch detractor of Bowden. I still am to be honest but hey that's my opinion whether right or wrong, and I will respect anyones views who are different to mine and I will try to back myself up with evidence to present my viewpoint. But guys and gals as a poster who has been on here for a while please FFS stop the personal gibes. Please if it can be done hate the post not the poster. Ultimately we are all different and we all have differing opinions but we don't need to abuse and belittle one another to prove a meek point as it is very disconcerting for some of us who actually have something to say and may not want to post in case the personal abuse is addessed to them. We are all Richmond supporters at heart and I am sure that if we were playing off on the last Saturday in September and Bowden or whoever kicked the winning goal we would be sharing the same joy that has fleetingly come past to visit Punt Rd in the last quarter of a century.

Overall for me for what it is worth I thought his 2nd half of the season was good and was probably boosted by his match winning effort in Adelaide his match saving effort against the Dons and he lost the game for us against Brisbane by slowing the game down only for Brisbane to kick 3 goals and then won it back by kicking the goal to win the game for us. Whatever he does it will be scrutinised very severely no matter what your opinion of him as he is one of those players that is either revered or maligned. I'll give him a 6 and hope that next year Terry plays him more in the forward line as he has had a great impact there when he has played there. I will admit his skill is better used in the forward line spotting up targets and shooting for goal rather than slowing down play and accumulating possies and breaking forward momentum in the backline.
