Title: Yeah or Neah: Jake King
Post by: one-eyed on September 09, 2008, 03:39:06 PM
Next uncontracted Tiger is Kingy ....

After playing every game in 2007 since debuting in round 4, this year he played in the first 11 rounds including mid to high possession games against Carlton (24), Collingwood (27), Freo (26), Hawthorn (29) and Geelong (26). Did his hammy against Adelaide at the 'G and missed 2 weeks before coming back for the Centenary game (9 disposals). Didn't play for a further 3 weeks before his final 2 AFL games for the year in our floggings to Geelong and Adelaide.

            games  disposals   marks   tackles
2007:     19        16.9          5.5        2.6
2008:     14        19.6          5.4        3.1

Is Kingy a keeper or should we trade/delist him?

His weaknesses got found out big time and we got exploited because of it.

Probably stay for depth but I think we'll barely ever see him in the back pocket again.

Is King uncontracted ?

I seem to recall that at the end of last year he was out of contract.
I beleive we only offered him 1 year, so he shopped around and was taliking to the Pies at one stage.
I think he then signed on with us for 2 years

But i could be wrong.

I love Kingy's attitude and work ethic. I wish I could take Kings spirit and put it into half the list and we would be a contender this year!

Unfortunately his size, skills and pace have been found out and exploited. I think he will be used as trade bait.

I think his size may hinder a possible trade.
If he does have a year to run as HMH has alluded to then despite any attempts to trade him he'll be with us for another year as a squad player possibly as an impact player in the fwd pocket where if he is exposed it won't immediately hurt on the scoreboard as was the case in the North game in round 2.

Keep/Trade
I agree he got exposed when he came back. Certainly doesn't belong in the midfield, and might be useful as a tackler in the forward line, but I'd keep him as an emergency back pocket.

Wouldn't de-list

Keep or Trade perhaps (depends on the deal)

Would be a potential delistee for mine, if we can't get a trade. I'm struggling to work out who our third delistee is going to be, there's no clear stand-out at the moment and I think he has to be in the running.

Seems clear cut on who the 3 would be for me Jez if that's all we settled for.

Tivs, Hyde, Pettifer.

I think this was false.

They're trying to put Polak onto the rookie list.

Trade/delist.

I like his attitude but too many flaws for mine.

- Outmarked regularly by strong marking small forwards

- Poor disposal & decision making

That was probably just Kane or his manager talking to Hutchy to try and get the ball rolling.

Pettifer has not yet signed a new contract so he's running out of time for that rumour to become ink to paper.

I think other clubs would still see some value in Kingy even from a little mongrel with some dash point of view. Jakey wouldn't get much on his own (late 3rd rounder at best) but as part of an overall trade with picks/players thrown in he would have value IMO. He did still average just under 20 disposals despite his deficiencies and missing most of the second half of the season.

Jake signed a new 2 year deal.
