Now that it sounds unlikely we'll pick up a ready-made ruckman during trade week, which young ruckmen should we target in the draft that are in our range of picks?
Here's a list of Ruckmen attending the Draft Camp in just over a week:
Jarrad Redden SA Eagles 27-Dec-90 202cm 88kg
Rhys Stanley SA West Adelaide 01-Dec-90 199cm 84kg
Bart McCulloch TAS Tassie Mariners 23-Sep-90 198cm 83kg
Shaun McKernan VIC Calder Cannons 01-Sep-90 196cm 95kg
Jordan Roughead VIC North Ballarat 03-Nov-90 199cm 87kg
Tom Hill VIC Northern Knights
Tyrone Vickery VIC Sandringham Dragons 31-May-90 200cm 86kg
Nicholas Naitanui WA Swan Districts 04-May-90 197cm 95kg
-
Vickery or Roughead.
-
Vickery in 1st round or Redden in later rounds
-
Shifter Sheahan and Robert Hyde's view on the best rucks available
Naitanui = top 3
Vickery = 1-4
Roughead
Browne - honest country kid who works hard at the contest. Just needs to keep working of his agility and run up and down the ground.
-
If this Vickery kid is any good, the blues will get him.
If they have any brains at all i they would not go for Warnock and hit this kid up with their early pick.
If this roughead is not as good then we may get him but so many teams before us.
-
The Blues want Warnock so Kreuzer isn't forced to carry too much of the ruck workload at such a young age which could make him prone to injury in the long-term. Chuck Warnock with Cloke in the ruck and then move Kreuzer up forward with Fev. Add a Hurley down back with their first pick to sure up their key defensive posts and the Blues go a long way to fixing the major weaknesses in their side - lack of rucks and bookends.
Roughead IMO will be a second round pick. Somewhere in the top 30.

The Blues don't need another ruck that will take another 4-5 years to come good, they already have Hampson, Kreuzer, Cloke & most likely Warnock. They are in dire need of a good kpp defender so will be hoping for Hurley to fall to them.

The Blues now won't be chasing another ruckman so if Vickery was to slip past Port at #4 then he'll be a good chance to be around at our pick 8.
-
Vickery but I will be amazed if he lasts until our selection.
Redden later

I would take a punt on McColloch, be great if he was a couple of cms taller (never know could still grow, naitanui is older and grew 3 cms)
anyways this bloke has good skills and is quite athletic. He's not clumsy at all in his movements and run and bounces like a midfielder (my impression from this clip from the carnival)

i'm super impressed. I dun think he will be taken too high so hopefully can will fall to our 4th round
