Title: Rate a player's year: Nathan Brown
Post by: one-eyed on September 24, 2008, 07:41:00 PM
After just 21 matches since breaking his leg in R10, 2005 prior to 2008, Browny played 18 games averaging 20 disposals (8th best Tiger) and he kicked 35 goals. He played every game up to round 17 before missing 4 of the last 5 with soreness in his "good" leg.

Games    Disposals   Marks   Tackles   G.B (total)
2004:    20           23.4        4.7        2.0        26.28
2005:    10           20.2        6.6        1.0        34.19
2006:    10           12.1        5.3        0.9        11.17
2007:    11           15.8        6.4        1.9        21.14
2008:    18           20.4        6.2        1.7        35.21

How did we all rate Browny's 2008?

Well they are very surprising stats i must say. Not a bad 08 really!!

still i say his best is behind him.

Trade to swans for me. Too many others who have overtaken his position now.

Got alot of cheap stats at times in the midfield which boosted his overall figures yet the impact made was not significant. Point is Adelaide game in Rd 11. Had about 18 touches in the first half but none in the second. Was good in the midfield in other games such as 2nd half v Carlton in Rd 1 and Feo in Rd 4. Was great at times as a finisher of class and poise ie Essendon rd 16 and ignore my last point against Carlton in our centennary match or the Skunks in Round 3. His good was brilliant his bad was woeful.
Ok having had my spiel I too think he has fallen down the pecking order and would be one player who could be put up for trade however the likely scenario is that he will be retained and as long as he knows his place and gets that selfishness out of his game and does the things he does well in a simple and effective manner rather than trying to gloss things up and make them complicated just to make them look good he will have done his job with aplomb as he is still a classy unit.
A reasonable year overall with some great moments and some real lowlights. In the twilight of his career and unfortunantely his awful injury sustained in 2005 has denied us of his best. Overall for 2008 6/10.

Started slowly.

It was pleasing seeing him running around for most of the year not looking like he was in pain.

Middle of the season was great almost vintage Browny...

6.5/10  ;D

Same as WP. 6.5/10.

Decent stats and a decent overall haul in front of the goals but a mixed year for Browny. Some vintage moments and game winning efforts but also some frustratingly off games (second Carlton game especially when he kicked 7 points :P). Getting through most of the season and still able to contribute both in the middle and up forward was the most pleasing thing after he's missed so much footy.

Despite the few off games agaist Carlton Collingwood i think overall he had a pretty good year considering his age and the injury.Just having him on the feild lifts the team.  There was a few games that werent going so well, he was put in the centre and helped turn things around which IMO wasnt just him but the fact he was there helps lift the younguns.

Id give him a solid 8/10

Tony Leonard on 3aw tonight said he believes we need to wait until 2009 for Browny and that in the second half of this year there were 6 or so games where he showed he was getting back to the player we knew at his best.

Stats show he had a better year than I thought.

I think management will be a priority, TOG etc.

7/10

I was fairly happy with his year and very grateful for the Essendon last quarter game.

He doesn't have any trade value what so ever considering age and his injuries.  I would be pleased if he could maintain the stats he had this year for 2009 and maybe win a few games for us with some of his magic.

I rate him 7/10.
