Tiger Jordan McMahon accused of being a 'cheapskate'
Sue Hewitt | November 23, 2008 12:00am
MODEL Rebecca McClure has told a court of the alleged penny-pinching ways of her former partner, AFL player Jordan McMahon.
She claims he dumped her and their one-year-old child interstate, with only a few hundred dollars, and never returned.
McClure is suing McMahon in the County Court, seeking a lump sum payout and a property settlement.
McMahon's manager, Alex McDonald, said the Richmond running defender had not yet received the court statement of claim and could not comment.
In court documents, McClure claimed McMahon earned $275,000 a year in 2008, while she struggled on a receptionist's salary of $35,000.
She claimed she had no idea there was any trouble with their relationship when McMahon left her and daughter, Lila, now almost three, in Adelaide two years ago, never to return.
The mother and child were left shortly after Christmas with their luggage, a few hundred dollars and the use of a car, she said.
She claimed they lived as "husband and wife" for at least two years until December, 2006.
Her court documents outlined the life of a football wife, where she said she attended only the formal football functions and otherwise stayed at home to care for their child.
Though McClure said McMahon was earning $180,000 a year between 2004 and 2006 while playing for the Western Bulldogs, she claimed she worked part-time for less than $20 an hour through her pregnancy to prepare the home for her child.
She alleged she had to pay all of her private health costs for the birth, and her family paid out-of-pocket expenses.
After the birth, McMahon took one day off football, while McClure's mother moved to Melbourne from Adelaide to help care for the newborn, according to the writ.
McClure met the then Western Bulldogs player in 2004 in Adelaide, where she lived with her mother.
She claimed that early in the romance, while she was working three part-time jobs, she had to pay to travel from Adelaide to Melbourne to be with McMahon.
The couple holidayed together in Malaysia for a fortnight, but Miss McClure said she had to pay her way.
The footballer asked her to move to Melbourne and promised to meet all her housing and living expenses until she got a job or was studying, the court document said.
But when she moved into McMahon's Melbourne apartment in December, 2004, he sacked the cleaning lady and expected her to do the household chores.
McClure claimed in court documents that, during their time together, her former partner spent $100 a week on phone gambling and lost $8000 on a 2005 Las Vegas football trip.
Throughout the relationship, McMahon kept his financial affairs secret and maintained separate bank accounts, according to the court document.
In 2006, McClure and her daughter regularly went to Adelaide to visit her mother, who was dying of cancer.
After her mother's death that year, McMahon drove McClure and their daughter to her deceased mother's home, according to her writ.
"After depositing (McClure) at the home of (her) deceased mother, (McMahon) took his possessions and left," the court document said.
Since the split, McMahon has paid McClure 4.5 months of six months' rent, as well as $600 a month, the statement said.

Loos like a lot of he said she said.
And at the moment it is only a one sided arguement.
If it turns out to be all true then report it, till then it is no ones bussiness.
And it could be just she can't accept that she has been put on the waste heap.
But as for the daughter he better do right by her.
You separate from your other half but you never stop being a parent.
-
Some good ammunition in there for the Jordy bashers.
Fully agree with bushranger about the parenting bit.
-
She should be careful playing the poor victim here.
If she can't provide for her child well the courts may not look kindly on that.
The courts aren't kind in some cases.
I have a friend who's lost custody of her child because of the he said/she said type stuff and is in the process of dragging her child, her ex and herself to psychologists and everywhere else through the court system.
And if she thinks she was poor before McMahon, wait until the lawyers have got their piece.
If she lived with him and circumstances were not to her liking, she should have moved out yonks before. Hello, if you're not happy, leave. Obviously, she didn't leave, therefore, I conclude she was happy. You can't have it both ways.
And plenty of mothers have brought up beautiful children on their own, so stop complaining that everyone owes you something and get on with your life. Let the courts decide what McMahon should pay, not the media.
-
Sue Hewitt is a biased reporter, who is a parasite, who has has a history of distorting the truth - ask the people she works with!!!! Sure didn't get both sides of the story.
Interesting that JM is paying rent and $600 a month , that sounds like someone contributing to his childs up bringing. Could be a gold digger or just another person getting revenge through the media!!!

Calm down follks. Its pretty clear that the article is written on the basis of a court hearing. The writer simply took all the claims from court documents.
I'm not sticking up for the author of the article, just saying that it sure isnt a case of the young woman running to the press. JM may not have had his day in court yet to explain himself - whether or not his side of the story is reported is another matter.

stuff her and the gold digger she rode in with.
Any woman who ends up being dumped in the middle of F.A. deserves it,imo.

LMAO.
Not me mate.
I keep 5 steps in front of the enemy. :cheers
LMAO@ The heavy-hearted story with the light hearted, joyous photo of the victim.
Go figure.
Even if it was true, why did she have to chase notoriety thru the media ?
ps - if ur stupid enuff to date an AFL footballer,u deserve what u get -NOTHING !!!

If Jordie wasn't a footballer this wouldn't have even made the paper let alone as a leading story. There'd be hundreds of ex-couples going through this and sadly relation break-ups often turn bitter and end up in court. None of our business IMO although the split-up seems to have turned massively ugly over the past 12 months going by this more amicable article from August last year:
http://www.news.com.au/adelaidenow/story/0,22606,22277624-5012985,00.html
Just Sad.
-
Its a yawn. Spits are sad but common. The media are only involved when there is an agenda to peddle.
-
disappointing for McMahon this story is out. would be embarassing for McMahon. Does make sense that '07 he was side tracked from his football, and wanting to leave Western because they could not help his off field issues. Nobody knows McMahon's story. Though whether McMahon is a "cheapskate" or not, it is his business and not anyone elses. disappointing that the former partner came out with this!
-
Didn't the recent Polak article have him running across the street to catch a cab which McMahon and his girlfriend were already at.
Therefore how much of this is nose out of joint by the ex - girlfriend??
-
Jordy's a pretty much maligned character anyway so I suppose copping abuse as a "cheapskate" can't hurt in comparison to some of the other terms that he probably gets anyway
-
The guy is clearly paying support as detailed in the last line of the article
So what's the big deal? The fact she's not getting a bigger cut?
-
Comes down to the scorn of a woman. Well this is what it looks very much like to me.
And this could get her set up in some other thing through using this as her landing pad.
Just look at Warney's missus how well she used the media to get ahead.
And I'm not saying this is right or wrong. But it is true.

Jordan McMahon disputes ex-lover's de facto payout
Sue Hewitt | May 03, 2009
RICHMOND star Jordan McMahon is fighting to avoid sharing assets with his child's mother.
He says they were not together long enough to be classed as a de facto couple.
Rebecca McClure last year launched legal action claiming McMahon dumped her and their daughter, Lila, with a few hundred dollars in South Australia in 2006.
But McMahon - who Ms McClure says earns $275,000 a year - has hit back, filing a defence in the County Court.
The key issue in the bitter dispute is how long the two lived together.
Ms McClure said in a statement of claim she was with McMahon for more than two years, from 2004 to 2006, which entitled her to share in the footballer's wealth.
However, McMahon said in court documents they did not live together for two years because Ms McClure spent significant periods away to be with her mother who was dying of cancer interstate.
He denied her claim that they were a de facto couple.
McMahon described several elements of Ms McClure's claim as "embarrassing" and his lawyers forced her to file a new statement of claim.
The pair are still warring over a cleaner who Ms McClure said was sacked, leaving her to do the chores.
McMahon said he sacked the housekeeper because Ms McClure "took issue" with her because she worked for his ex-girlfriend's parents.
He claimed that in the six months after separation, he paid Ms McClure almost $1000 a week in addition to child support payments.
He said he continued to support Ms McClure and Lila, now aged about three.
Ms McClure received an inheritance after her mother died in 2006, which she used to buy a unit in SA, he said.
McMahon said he paid all household expenses during the relationship.
Ms McClure is seeking a lump sum payment, costs and interest.
Her law firm, Griffin Hilditch, and McMahon did not return calls.

Care to share any sordid or juicy tidbits from your personal life would you Jack? Or would that be none of our business? What makes ANY aspect of McMahon's personal relationships your business or fair game for the media jackals? It's scum with no life of their own that feed off and perpetuate the disgrace that the media choose to validate by calling "news in the public interest". >:(

Anyone can have an opinion about anything - it's how you handle that opinion that sorts out the mature and responsible from people like you.

If Fevola, Carey, Johnson, Shaw, Didak etc do something in public then yes, I will make a comment in a discussion if I feel sufficiently moved to do so. Big difference to digging into someone's private life - you wouldn't appreciate it if it was you - trouble is I doubt you have the intelligence, maturity or social morals to understand the difference and treat it accordingly.

i asked if you have ever made a statement about Fev, Carey, Didak etc etc and you have just said you have pretty much said you have.
Incident with Didak's ex mrs, im sure you had something to say there
Incident with Carey on any number of incidents, im sure you had something to say there
Incident with Fevola, yep im sure you had an opinion there also.
People in glass houses shouldn't throw stones and believe me if Mcmahon played for the Blues you would have been all over him like a rash, in fact most of us would have so dont feed me your crap.
Just let it go i own you on this one

Dear silly Daniel. Let me highlight some important words that unfortunately appear to have been above your capacity to comprehend:
"If Fevola, Carey, Johnson, Shaw, Didak etc do something in public"
Anything done in PUBLIC is by nature - IN THE PUBLIC FORUM - and luckily in this country we have the right to an opinion (voiced or otherwise) on any public occurrence.
Anything else is the private life of the individual(s) concerned and no, I don't have the right (or do I ever choose) to comment on that. However, I have very grave doubts that you have the same social consciousness as this so your inability to understand is acknowledged, if not forgiven. You can always tell a person with nothing in their own pathetic life worth talking about - they are always the ones vocal about the private actions of others.
Just let it go i own you on this one
You don't even own the actions of your hand on your appendage.

Sorry. Didn't realise I'd overstepped the high-mark of your age and IQ level yet again. Reproduction is what big people do when they want to use that thing that stops you getting out of bed straight away in the morning in case Mummy sees it.
