Ron Barassi beaten as he aids woman

AFL legend Ron Barassi was smashed to the ground and kicked in the head while he lay in the gutter after he went to the aid of a woman being bashed in St Kilda, early on New Year's Day.

Barassi, 72, was nursing bruised ribs, lumps on his head and a graze to the front of it, but had no regrets.

Barassi had been at a St Kilda restaurant with friends, including yachting great John Bertrand. As he left he saw the woman being attacked, and chased the thug.

"All I saw was this guy belting up a woman.

"I took after him but I don't know what happened then. I ended up on the ground and was then kicked.

"I was lying on the footpath. I had my arms covering my eyes."

To tell you the simple truth if I were king thugs who kick people in the head whilst committing an offence would have the vermin flesh ripped from their vermin backs with 50 lashes of the cat 'o nine tails.

Too many do gooders. rip the flesh from them and see how quickly they reoffend.

Did the woman Barassi tried to help run off with the thug afterwards? That's what the radio news report sounded like  ???.

he wasn't bashed.

He got himself involved in a domestic.

In the video I saw:

i) Woman wasn't even touched, let alone "bashed"
ii) Barassi ran a mile to get involved

Who knows what the woman did, she might have deserved a talking to. The fact that she walked away with the bloke means that either/both i) Barassi got involved in something he shouldn't have ii) The woman is stupid and not worth the trouble
