Half-ton Terry Wallace busy
Craig Hutchison | January 04, 2009 12:00am
FOOTBALL'S fountain of youth quietly turned 50 in December . . . and had a birthday to remember.
Richmond coach Terry Wallace (left) celebrated the early part of the milestone brokering Ben Cousins's return to football. The big day came on December 13, days before the Tigers punted on Cousins in the pre-season draft.
Wallace this week revealed he spent the first few hours of a celebration barbecue with family and friends swapping phone calls between Richmond directors and Cousins's manager, Ricky Nixon.
"I tried to have a pretty normal celebration," he said. "After my third beer I think I turned the phone off."
And a Christmas holiday in Bali failed to hide Wallace from the Cousins spotlight.
"With so many West Australians over there, there were a lot of people coming up to me saying thanks for giving Ben another go and wishing him success," Wallace said.
Into the final season of a five-year contract with the Tigers, he is ready to see what 2009 brings.
"After four years of developing the list it will either go the way it was planned or it wont," he said.
"It will look after itself."

Terry knows its do or die this year and seems to accept that and be motivated by it.
At least we should have no "shove him or keep him" stuff this year since it is very simple....We go top 8 and TW stays beyond 2009. We fail and TW goes.

4 years of coaching Richmond has thinned out Plough's hair by his 50th birthday that's for sure.
The media will be waiting to get into Wallace and the club searching for blood. Hopefully we can shut them up for good early on with a good start to the season.

No chance on that MT, there will always be sharks searching for blood, they may just be in other waters when we are doing well.

Trust me MT, 50 years of age thins out most people's hair - RFC coach or not. And yes, I am a living, breathing example!!

lol It's just that coaching Richmond accelerates the aging process to just 5 years :D. I can't find the pic but there's one around of poor Spud with grey hair looking a shattered wreck in 2004 after he began at Richmond with black hair and full of hope :wallywink.

You're right MT. Those new sponsors logos sure make him look older, poor fellow.
You don't think the old Greashen 2000 is getting a bit of a work out?
