Title: Jack Dyer's 'longest kick in history'
Post by: one-eyed on January 23, 2009, 01:21:57 PM
One for our older OERites...... true story or myth?

Another story involves what is claimed to be the 'longest kick in history', when Jack Dyer booted the ball into one of the carriages of a goods train that was travelling past Glenferrie Oval at the time. The ball is supposed to have ended up hundreds of kilometres away.

That story sounds very similar to this one :
Carlton legend Harry ' Soapy ' Vallence has said that one of his goals at the MCG not only soared through the goals, but went over Brunton Ave and into a goods train bound for Bairnsdale !" No one ever kicked a longer ball than that," quiped Soapy

Taken form the book : THE GREATEST GAME by  Ken Piesse( Page 88 )

Lou Richards once said that he had a shot on goal that was on such a tight angle the ball got stuck between the posts!
