Title: Tigers play hardball.
Post by: Stripes on February 24, 2009, 03:31:59 PM
I'm just reading through the AFL Prospectus and Richmond specifically and I came across a few very interesting facts.

Firstly we averaged 9 more contested possession than our opposition last year with Geelong the only other team with a record like that.

In the hardball-get stakes we were the clear No 1 with a +194 differential, 76 better than any other team!

Tuck was our leading hardball contributor with an average of 10 per game, followed by Foley with 9 and Lids, King and Raines averaging 7 per game. Cotchin, Richo and Brown averaged 6.

In addition we also share No 1 position for keeping opposition from winning the fewest amount of contested possessions - 102.

We also the competition leader for uncontested marks averaging 17 more per game than any other team. Carlton is a close second. Richo averages 9 a game and Bowden (surprize, surprize) averages 8 ranking No 1 and 3 in the league respectfully.

Just thought people would be interested.

Ta for that Stripes. I knew that contested possies was a KPI of ours but interesting that we are so high for contested possies for a young side with light bodies. We rely on Tuck and Foley too much in that area in the midfield which is the reason why the Club chased after Thomson and Hislop to add some harder bodies to our list and protect our ballwinners. Hopefully Cogs and Cotch get over their current niggles to give us even more options.

The number one uncontested marking side is probably one stat you don't want. Probably means we go sideways to "safe" options too much and are not direct enough.

Stripes do they have a number of inside 50s per game stat in the Prospectus that you can post?

They hve something called 'Score Launches' which is broken up into F50, Mid and D50. Tuck is No.1 with 34 F50, 117 mid and 13 D50, Simmonds is second, McMahon, Foley and Newman rounding out the top 5.

The more you look through the leader stat getters in our side the more you see Tucks value to the side!

Tucky is tough and gets it alright.
The simple reason Tuck doesn't get mentioned in the same breath as top players is his disposal by foot is still ordinary.

True Magic. Tucky is a gutsy mid who just bangs the footy on his foot. Hopefully with Cuz and Cotch (when he comes back) we can add more class into our midfield brigade.

Cheers Stripes. Interesting Simmo is second on that list. Shows his value to the side around the ground.
