For everyones info and I maybe a little bit late with this but tickets for this game went on sale today (Wed 24/3/09)
Would suggest anyone thinking of going get in touch with TICKETMASTER (yep it's ticketmaster for Skilled Stadium) ASAP.
Only limited numbers of tickets available for that stinking hell hole of a venue, which is at a reduced capacity for 2009 :banghead :banghead

What a ridiculous situation! :help
We are going to go from selling out the 100k seated MCG to having to play at a 20k molehill where most of our supporters have no chance of getting in. Geelong will refuse because of the stadia deal they have with their own dung heap but the game should really be moved to the Dome or MCG to maximize crowds. Especially if we beat Carlton there will be a huge uproar over this. I guess the positive is hopefully this will be the last time we have to play down there. You don't see Carlton having to travel down the highway even though our annual crowds have most years been higher than theirs over the past decade and they've been a worse performing side which is saying something.

Well said and spot on, although I don't mind heading down to the cattery being the only suburban style ground left...on the rare occassion we beat those pussy's, it's definately worth it. Got 6 tickets today so will be making the trip again.
-
I have got tickets (8) but it is just such a hassle
Everything about down there is a hassle
-
Decided last time I have had enough of going down there so I didn't bother this time.
Will watch the first qtr on telly and then have something planned like gardening or golf for when it gets all to painful :banghead

Absolutely. When Geelong get to 40 ahead - mid 2nd qtr I reckon - I'll go and wash my hair or something.
Match will be a useful training spin for the Cats up til half time and then target practice for them.
-
Ok.... moving on..... :whistle. We need to go back to using the centre corridoor and of course lifting our level of skill. I think we have the pace to match the Cats and we will have to use that because IMO their bigger body's will be too hard to compete against one on one. We also need to look at geting the ball into our forward line a lot quicker, no point standing there going stagnent, quick and accurate movement of the ball will win this game for us and of course tackling!!
Out: Raines, Cousins & Edwards
In: Rance, Polo & Hislop
I will give Bowden another chance although I am not sure the caoching staff will, remember Terry saying that Bowden has to start the season off like he finished it. Last year his start to the season had him dropped back to Coburg. So if Bowden is dropped then maybe we could see Post come in.
For the smokey and don't be surprised if this does not happen; Cogs in. :shh
-
Got tix for Saturday and hoping that the trip to the Cattery from the Northern Suburbs is shorter than the time we actually are competitive in the game.
-

Especially when he misses the target with his disposal - costly

Extremely costly..........deadly in fact! Just a pity that he, Simmo and Brown were serial offenders on Thursday and all very recently in the leadership group...what message did that send?

Hey Bentleigh
Why would you play Nahas when he is on the Rookie list and he can't be elevated? Why would you drop Jackson when he was actually prety good on Judd and we really need a tagger in this game?? Why would you play Thompson when he has been injured for the last two weeks and hasn't even trained??? Collins game was also average on the weekend in a practice match.
How will a side have the chance to settle with so many changes??
-
Why would you drop Jackson when he was actually prety good on Judd and we really need a tagger in this game??
I must have missed something.
Jackson had no influence on the game and Judd had a major influence.
-

Jackson had no influence on the game and Judd had a major influence.
The whole Carlton team had a major influence on the game, Jackson at least had 3 tackles, I would drop at least 6 others before him. McMahon also had the 3rd equal highest tackle count for the night with 4 so there goes some others theories there.
-
Geelong want to release Tom Hawkins on us and drop Lonergan.

"The Cats have consistently dominated Richmond over the past 15 years. They have won 11 of the past 12 matches and 23 of the past 29. :P
Geelong full-back Matthew Scarlett is certain to play despite suffering an ankle injury in Friday's win over Hawthorn."

Polo, Hislop and Rance can all pick up that slack, they can all tackle.
Jackson failed on Thursday night, there is no two-ways about it, regardless if 18 other blokes did as well, he was right down the bottom of failures and should go for Polo to come in.

Expected ugly conditions won't help Cats
March 31, 2009 - 8:59PM
Predicted ugly conditions for Saturday's AFL match against Richmond will most likely mean more focus on Geelong's goalkicking for at least another week.
Cats coach Mark Thompson says the demolition of the small grandstand in the south-west corner of Skilled Stadium has created a wind tunnel that has sometimes made for tough training conditions.
"It's been really unpredictable and hard to even train for us at times," he said.
"They're expecting cloud and wind, so it might be a really ugly game.
"A lot of the wind comes from that direction, that very pocket."
That will not help the Cats' shots on goal, which has become an ongoing talking point.

Well maybe it will help our kicking... :thumbsup

Well now with Nahas being elevated I have revised my squad and I think with the preassure Wallace may buckle and drop McMahon. Doesn't seem to be many people having a crack at the team this week.

Collins deserves a spot!
Also its funny how we talk about tackles but forget to ever mention Sheppard's - we just don't do the things that good sides do.
Looks good on the stat sheet but you don't win games by stat chasing.
If TW cant get us to do the hard things I hope we get Buckley as he wont suffer soft possession football -pity he's got a Collingwood side.

from the RFC site....
The Tigers travel down the Princes Highway to Geelong to battle the Cats on Saturday afternoon having made three unforced changes. Wallace said how the team responds to last week’s thrashing at the hands of Carlton would be seen after the first bounce.
“The response is always how you go about your football, it’s not about what you say or what you do on the training track, although the training track is obviously where it starts.
“Clearly our supporters want to see a competitive group and that’s what the players have got to show.
“What our supporters do expect is that blokes will have a red-hot dip and get out and represent the colours the way they should.”

After last weeks insipid performace nothing short of the courage shown by Francis Bourke in 1980 will be acceptable.I want to see half the team bandaged up like mummies because they have put their bodies on the line for the RFC.
God I hate the word "competitiveness".It was ok in 2007 but not now.

Same, I'm sick of seeing "competitiveness," I want to see wins.
-
Any talk or promises means nothing unless we see something real to back it up tomorrow.
Geez match-ups are hard to come up with :help. The only "weakness" Geelong seems to have is you try to play through Milburn's opponent as he's getting older and slower. But to do that you need to win the footy and pump it down the guts into our forward line quickly. The wet weather is going to keep the ball on the ground more too.

Richo outmarks Bartel and off to Foley 40m out. Good off the ball work Nahas. Goal :gotigers
6 - 7
-
Johnson misses. Yep yips :pray
6 - 8
-
We then gift the Cats a certain goal with a 50m :scream
6 - 14
-
Enright is on Browny.
Tucky free 65m out at the bottom of the pack. Moore marks 15m out and then misses :P
7 - 15
-
Edwards had to look and hold onto it instead of just bombing it to no one forward but Milburn.
-
We had it up forward but they cut us up on the way back with their skills.
7 - 21
-
No half-forward line. We get it forward again then give away a dumb 50m holding on :banghead
-
Here we go again, 20 poindown and credit it to Edwards, since he has turned the ball over 3 times we have gone to crap. Why is this bloke even playing football???????????????
-
Turnover...... goal, same old same old
-
Our forward line is non-existent. It's like a trampoline. The ball comes out as fast as it goes in :scream.
And then we commit hurry curry in Geelong's goalsquare :banghead
7 - 33
-
They are really forcing us to play the wings and they are controlling the ground.
-
Damage is done now we won't come back from this it will be like this all day now!!

13 - 33
-
Geez can someone hold onto a mark inside 50 :scream
-
Jack is having a shocker. 3 mistakes in 3 minutes. Drop mark, lack of awareness going forward and then gives away 50m. Lucky they only got a point.
13 - 35
-
I think Riewoldt may have read too many papers from last year about himself, he really needs to lift. 50m again bad turnover Moore!! It's not that the game plan is bad it's the players letting themselves down...... again. Rance looks ok.
-
Schulz gets a free 50m out. Misses after a two step run up.
14 - 35
-
Where are the Jackson knockers today his skills have been great and he is just about BOG for us, great miss Schulz!!

Yep agree there great half a game, plus he has been blocking and sheparding as well.
-
:bangheadThis game is clearly showing yet again our weak bodied list against stronger bodied opponents. Just before halftime one Geelong player managed to still get a handball away whilst being tackled by 3 Richmond players. We will get absolutely crucified in the 2nd half if this keeps happening.
-
We were doing alright for the first 20 minutes of that quarter but once again time-on we leak goals :scream.
Possies: 205 - 202
Marks: 62 - 51
Tackles: 26 - 33

Ablett 14 to King 10
Our forward line
Morton 4
Jack 5
schulz 5
Nahas 1 handball
-
Cant agree there Ramps as the years 2009-2011 have to play out.
At this stage in 2009 we need to make finals and be competitive against the top sides.
Too early to say the rebuild has failed, and if it has failed to say start again with some of the talent we have would be throwing the baby out with the bath water.
-
Jack goals from the start :gotigers
32 - 57
-
Its ok to disagree Chuck, I hope Im wrong, but the signs are no good. Geelong is so far infront of us in such a high number of areas in the game. You know its been 4 years plus in the making, to be so far behind is a very bad sign ... and Im not talking about the scoreboard. Its the things I mentioned earlier, the skills, the class, the awareness, the hardness at the footy.
-
Richo marks :pray. Goal :gotigers
38 - 57
-
Ottens going off has helped us. We're winning the stoppages.
-
Brownyyyyyyyyyyyyy :gotigers
44 - 57
Great forward pressure tiges :clapping
-
Richo give 50m away for swearing or knocking the ball ::)
Cats miss though
44 - 58
-
Fvcking stupid players.
-
Pretty harsh to compare our current side to one that was rebuilt starting back in 2000. Our rebuild started 4 years later. Not to mention the father son players the Cats have managed to land which is a nice help, plus they rebuilt from a side that was playing regularly in the finals.
Have a look at the Cats side we beat down at Kardinia in 2006, it's almost exactly the same as their record beating premiership side
Geelong were also looking at a pretty average year prior to that game at Telstra Dome when they smashed us by a million points, they'd just come off a poor loss to the Kangaroos and the pressure was on them, then it all just clicked while the pressure was on. It can all turn around pretty quickly.
-
King then kicks it straight to Mooney across goal and gives away a goal :banghead
Then Moore punches the ball away and it's a freebie 2nd goal :banghead
Geez we are undisciplined. All that good work and we throw it away :banghead
44 - 70
-
Fvcking stupid players.
You have got to be fvcking kidding havent' you?
The worst decision in AFL fvcking history :banghead
-
Good on you LIds
Having to fight umpires, Cats and stupid idiotic supporters :gotigers

Did you actually see the incident
You can't be serious
-
Jake King seems to be doing a very good job on GAJ
Has Ablett even had a touch this quarter?
-
Ablett has only touch the ball 5 times since 1/4 time.
You don't the umps the chance Moi. It's a stupid rule (as if this BS soft off the ball new rule ::) ) but you can't do knock the ball away after a goal.
How was that prior opportunity against White ::)
50 - 76
7 goals from umps to Geelong
-
Richo miss from 50m
51 - 76

Deledio is finally leading the cavalry.
Hopefully we win. It would put us back on track.

Scores level. We had it forward but Ablett got a free and they ran it up the other end for a goal
84 - 84

These umps are morons. Pointing the wrong way :banghead

Goal to Geelong even though it should be a free to Simmo for a balantant push in the back :banghead

7 mins to go. Going to be hard now. Geelong's been on top this quarter with the breeze.
-
Goal to Steve Johnson
He's been the Cats best, is Bowden still his opponent?
-
Bowden is up forward isn't he. HFF.
Edwards too small for Milburn. Geelong counter and goal.
All over. 3 mins to go.
85 - 104
-
Nahas snaps OOTF :P
-
Why did we stop attacking, we had to continue what we had started in the 3rd quarter, I dont understand the change in tactics?
-
Bowden shoots from 50m on the run into the breeze but this time it drops short.
Was that a high tackle to Morton missed by the ump?
85 - 105
-
Final score
Richmond 1.1 4.2 12.6 13.7-85
Geelong 5.3 8.9 11.11 15.15-105

-

Probably a lot like Adelaide last night. Played catched up footy and it took too much energy out of us. The first quarter is what cost us the game.
Buckley is right. We should not be satisfied with today. It was obviously better than last week but still wasn't good enough given the 3/4 time score and we were a genuine chance to win.
-
Pretty much wrapped up by the commentators on Fox, Richmond in the end didn't have the class to go with Geelong, if we dont have the class then what have we be doing for the last 5 years? :banghead :banghead :banghead
-
Real question marks for me on King, Edwards, Schulz and McGuane. Need to find replacements for each of these players IMHO.
-

Jackson, Bowden, Nahas, Graham did not do lot
-
I think most of us would of taken a 20 pt loss at the start of the game but we blew a great opportunity to roll the cats.Geelong to me looked a little lazy-just doing enough to win.Perhaps the Nab cup and Grand Final replay left them feeling a little flat.It was in hindsight a good time to play them.Plus the injuries they sustained in the game......we had alot going for us and we let it slip.
I dont want to hear the words "honourable loss" this week from anyone at the RFC
Well done to Polo and Rance...Team didnt miss McMahon one bit.Richo -you are a star.
-

Jackson matched Selwood, maybe even outpointed him, wouldn't call that "not do a lot"

We dont have enough in reserve to cover them all unfortunately. Id be bringing in Thomson and Collins for King and Edwards. Our young KPP still need time at Coburg unfortunately. And of course when Cotchin and Cousins come back they will add class to the side ...

Same, no loss is honourable, we need to play like we did in the 3rd quarter, week after week for the rest of the year, then we can start talking about honour
ps thanks for the updates guys, i find it a lot easier to come on here and get scores than to listen to the radio :thumbsup

A couple of times I saw Geelong defenders brushing off Nahas takles like he wasn't there. :banghead.

Although they have been listed in Geelongs best Selwood & Bartel didnt hurt us that much.G Ablet won them the game in the last.We needed one more classy midfielder and the result could of been different.(Cotchin)
-
Jackson matched Selwood, maybe even outpointed him, wouldn't call that "not do a lot"
IMO Jackson outpointed Selwood
-
Real question marks for me on King, Edwards, Schulz and McGuane. Need to find replacements for each of these players IMHO.
Jackson, Bowden, Nahas, Graham did not do lot
Were we watching the same game?? I paid close attention to Jackson and thought he did very well. Whilst Graham was not brilliant, I've got no real issues with his game. In actual fact I thought he out rucked Blake on quite a few occasions. Nahas was obviously out of his depth but he did show some signs of promise.
Rance had a cracker debut. Was very happy with his debut. He will only get better....much better!!!
In all honesty apart from running out of petrol in the last, I felt the team as a whole performed very well.
Overall it was a vastly improved performance and if we can show the intensity we displayed in the third quarter over a couple more, we will be very competetive.

Well done to Polo and Rance...Team didnt miss McMahon one bit.Richo -you are a star.
you know until you mentioned McMahon l had forgot all about him ;D
-
Ok so I haven't read too many posts since my last but hey what a great fight back and a shame in the end. I thought Hislop was a great inclusion and he did add that hardness at the ball. I thought Polo did well as did Foley in the end but it did take him a half to get into it. Richo was Rich say no more and Jackson went great all day IMO. Sorry but Edwards needs a good stint in the gym and the seconds and Tambling or Cogs needs to come in for him, he was far too easily bumped off that ball and his skill level is that of a middle teer VFL player.

A loss is a loss whether by 83 points to a team that finished below us on the ladder last year or a 20 point loss to the Flag Favourites.
We just did not have the class and poise to ice the game in the last quarter unfortunantely when we needed to as well as building on our lead especially after we kicked the first goal of the last quarter. Live and learn I guess and makes the Dogs game on Monday week critical to our season fortunes.
-
if we want to anywhere we have to win these, no more excuses.
i wonder about the mental capacity of the players and this club since our demise.

Yep. Selwood had zero influence on the game - Jackson beat him easily.

Bomber Thompson's view of us....
Thompson took the unusual step of using his post match press-conference to protect one of his own - beleaguered Tigers coach Terry Wallace.
"Richmond were fantastic and hopefully you (media) guys might stay away from Richmond this week because they were so good," he said.

We had 4 Taswegians in our line-up on the weekend....
TASMANIANS IN THE AFL - Richardson in best for hapless Richmond
BY ALEX FAIR
7/04/2009
RICHMOND'S Matthew Richardson was one of the catalysts for the Tigers' ultimately fruitless comeback against Geelong on Saturday.
The big man from Devonport was the Tigers' best player, finishing with 28 possessions, 14 marks and two goals alternating between the wing and the forward 50.
When he pushed forward in the third quarter he straightened Richmond up and the team kicked 8.2 to 3.2 to take a one-point lead into the final change, before eventually losing by 20 points.
Former Essendon midfielder Tom Hislop, of Burnie, made his debut in the yellow and black and finished with 10 possessions, four tackles and a goal, while King Island ruckman Angus Graham played his first game of the year and finished with nine touches.
Jack Riewoldt (ex-Clarence) had another quiet game up forward, finishing with just one goal from his 12 touches.

A bit about how we tagged Ablett or tried to in the Age today...
Last weekend, Richmond used two opponents on Ablett. Jake King picked him up when Ablett was "resting" forward, and the much uglier task of manning him in the middle fell to Nathan Foley, who struggled to keep up and didn't really exploit Ablett defensively either.
The Tigers did, however, curb the influence of Joel Selwood via their best tagger, Daniel Jackson, who doesn't have the physical gifts, ie, the speed or agility, to play on Ablett.
Richmond lost the Ablett duel, but by putting the clamps on Selwood managed to break even in the clearances. This could well become the trade-off that rival clubs accept - that if you cannot control Ablett, it's better to put your premier tagger on either Selwood or Jimmy Bartel, and play a more attacking midfielder on Ablett junior. If you can't stop him, don't waste your best negator.

I saw King in the middle plenty of times. ???
-
GAJ may have still had a good game, but his influence was still down on his regular output, he barely touched it in the 2nd & 3rd quarters.
-
Ablett is a freak. A lazy 37 possies tonight. We did well to keep him quiet for 2 quarters. Overall we did better against the Cats than the Pies did tonight and the Pies think they are a top 4 side :nope.
Speaking of freakish Steve Johnson is becoming the biggest diver in the game. He falls down on the slightest bit of contact. Funny stuff when he dived too hard and whacked his big honker on the turf and got a blood nose :wallywink.
