Pettifer returns after nine months
richmondfc.com.au
By Mic Cullen Thu 16 April, 2009
RICHMOND forward Kayne Pettifer is set to return to the playing field this weekend, nine months after rupturing his ACL in the VFL.
Richmond football manager Ross Monaghan said Pettifer was raring to go. "He'll most likely play in the seconds – that hasn't been settled but I think he'll most likely play half a game in the twos,” he said."
"With a guy coming back from those sorts of injuries, you've got no expectations really, all you want is for them to get through some games and get some match practice, really.
"It's the natural extension from the training they've been doing.
"So as long as he gets through half a game, recovers well, maybe plays three-quarters the following week and builds it up to a full game, then you start to get some expectations of where things are.
"The early days are all just about a reintroduction to playing again, and getting some touch."
Pettifer is likely to play in the backline in order to reduce the strain on the joint.
"The normal thing with an injury like that is that you want them running in straight lines as much as you can, so you generally get them to start in defence.
"He'll probably play across half-back so he can run straight at it."

l'm wondering how our local lad Allen is going & hope he gets on the team playing against the Cat players & see how he fairs
He is a strong mark & good kick + can be very elusive in the forward line so good luck Ryan kick some goals lad

Ex-Hawk to line up for Coburg
Brent Diamond | April 18, 2009
FORMER Hawthorn midfielder Tim Clarke has taken his speedy game to the Coburg Tigers and leads a young midfield brigade today against Geelong as an assistant coach to former teammate Jade Rawlings.
The 27-year-old, the brother of runner Georgie Clarke, was one of the fastest in time trials at the Hawks before being delisted last year. at the end of their premiership season after 96 matches.
After fielding several offers from interstate, Clarke admits friendship came into his decision to become a Tiger. "Jade's (Rawlings) a good friend of mine and he thought it would give me a good insight into what it's like to coach," he said.
"I just want to be competitive for the club. We've got a good feeling here at Coburg and we're looking forward to playing competitive footy."
Clarke said it was awkward watching his teammates from the stands as they went on to win the AFL flag last season and admitted he was trumped by a string of young Hawks for a spot in the 22.
He was one of the most respected Hawks in the playing group, given his leadership skills and racking up the club's most improved and most determined awards in 2004 and '05.
"I went and watched it with the boys. It was a good environment but it still hurt a bit not to be out there," he said.
"It was disappointing but at the end of the day, I wasn't good enough to get into the team."
Rawlings is delighted to have Clarke on board after a starring role in last week's win over Frankston.
"Clarke's been a great acquisition for our footy club. He's a super character, a great player and a very talented athlete. He's brought a lot to Coburg since he's been here," he said.

Blingers plays one good game and bring him in for what.
Its not stuffin fair IMO.
Cogs, Collins, Polo, Rance consistently among the best at Coburg and did they get selected????? NO
so why the hell should he get picked after one good game. He needs to earn it. 4 weeks straight in the best and you might see him change his ways when he plays for the tigers.
-
All that the players sent back can do is play well and press for senior selection again.
If they do that it can only be a good thing and they should be rewarded for it. Sure beats the alternative.

Great win by the Burgers. Hopefully a few RFC guys other those mentioned had good games to put pressure on senior players in the RFC side to finally perform.
-
Djekurra is also another player to be looked at in October trades, Geelong have a couple we should be interested in namely Hawkins and Djekurra for mine.
-
That's great news that a few that got dropped played well BUT if are to be a great side we need these guys to really hurt when they get dropped and by putting them straight back up tells them that's it's ok to play poorly, get dropped, play a good game in the twos and get your spot back.
Great clubs make them put together 3, 4 or more good games in the twos before putting them back in regardless of what our seniors are doing. We need to build a culture down there that to play in our side you need to be playing well and doing all the little things that make good sides i.e. chasing, tackling, blocking, etc.
TW needs to almost teach these young kids a lesson that poor performances are not rewarded at the Richmond Football Club. We need to teach the next group of leaders at our club to change the culture at our club so it does not continue for another 25 years. Hard lessons to learn and it will not be done overnight but enough is enough. They need to know everytime they put the yellow and black on that it's a privilege and an honour and to do it proud everytime! To be excited everytime their name is read out in the side and not to take it for granted that they will get a game because of who they are or what they have done!
A perfect example of this was last year when Bowden and Petts were dropped, they both played well for 3-4 games before getting the recall, and if i remember correctly we at senior level won a few games at the time. Maybe no coincidence but players knew that poor games might mean they join these two at Coburg.
I would like to see Cogs get a game soon but for the others, a few more weeks in the best at Coburg before even being considered!!
I hope we win well tomorrow and everybody plays well so changes will be hard to make.
Go Tiges!!

Pettifer was very good in the half he played today.
Had atleast 15 off half back and kicked a goal.

Likewise those in the side should feel the pressure to perform every week because being dropped should mean you won't be back in the side for a while given the competition for places. If we win well tomorrow with a good team effort then there's no reason to make any changes no matter how well RFC guys played today for Coburg.
-
Great in theory, problem is we have so many that under-perform in the seniors that we HAVE to make lots of changes each week, hence players getting easier-than-desired promotions back to RIchmond.

That's true too jezza but you would think there'd be lesser tolerance towards underperforming senior players than towards younger players still finding their feet.

We have to start somewhere Jezza. As i said in the post, it will not happen over night but something has to change. To many average proformances rewarded with games of footy of the Richmond Football Club.

Schulz nabs seven goals
Sunday 19 APR 2009, Page S05
DUMPED Richmond forward Jay Schulz has put his hand up for an immediate senior recall, kicking seven goals for Coburg in the VFL yesterday -- on his 24th birthday.
Schulz took several monster contested marks to lead the Tigers' VFL affiliate to a 74-point win over Geelong.
No.8 draft pick Jarrad Oakley-Nicholls bounced back from a quiet first half to play a leading role after the break.
Richard Tambling looked slick at times, but floated in and out of the contest playing mostly midfield.

Round 2 Match Report

COBURG TIGERS V GEELONG
ABD GROUP STADIUM
SATURDAY 18TH APRIL
A very hefty and vocal crowd turned up at ABD Group Stadium on Saturday to see the Burgers take on the Cats. After a solid victory last week the Burgers were slight favourites heading into the match, and the boys didnt disappoint their admiring fans. Robert Nahas and Andrew Collins who together contributed nine goals for the Burgers last week were selected to make their debut for Richmond, causing a few changes to the Burger forward set up this week.
The Tigers got off to a firm start kicking five first quarter goals to take a small lead into the quarter time break. Both sides over used the ball on occasions early on, but it was Coburg who settled first and started using possession more wisely. Richard Tambling came out with all guns firing and produced a very solid four-quarter game with plenty of run through the middle setting up multiple exciting goals for his teammates.
Quarter Time: Coburg Tigers 5.4 (34) Geelong 3.2 (20)
The Burgers began to take control of the match in the second term as they piled on eight goals. Jay Schultz was a key focal point up forward as he marked and converted extremely well finishing with seven majors for the day.
However a big positive for the Burgers was their excellent spread of goal kickers for the match with thirteen players chipping in for at least one goal each.
Coburg were the dominant team in all areas on the ground during the first half but accurate kicking from the Cats kept them within six goals at the main break.
Half Time: Coburg Tigers 13.9 (87) Geelong 8.3 (51)
Andrew Horne and Tim Clarke were brilliant all day in the stoppages. Together the two along with ruckman Tyrone Vickery and on-baller Adam Thomson worked extremely well in the middle dominating the clearances and setting up numerous goals. Assistant coach Tim Clarke is a real bonus addition to the Coburg side this season as he can continue to help develop the young Burger on-ball brigade, while also staring each week himself. The Burgers finished off another successful quarter booting seven majors and took an unbeatable 52 point lead into the final change.
3 Quarter Time: Coburg Tigers 20.10 (130) Geelong 12.6 (78)
Jarrod Silvester was back to some of his best form down back cutting off numerous Geelong passes inside their forward fifty, and setting up many Burger forward surges. Nick Carnell was again brilliant, starting off half back and at times moving into the forward line the gutsy young man finished with four majors for the match. The Tigers finished the match in style booting another seven goals in the final term to run away with a brilliant 74 point victory.
This Saturday the Burgers are away to the undefeated Box Hill at Box Hill City Oval on Anzac Day, with the Reserves starting at 10:30am and the seniors at 2pm.

RESERVES
The Burger reserves faced Williamstown this week in a very tough match up. Despite having a lot less scoring shots at the main break the Burgers took in a 3 goal lead.
However the boys left their game in the change rooms at half time as the seagulls came out flying kicking nine goals to nil in a dominant third quarter, all but sealing the match.
Positive signs for the Burgers included the form of Graham Polak who played up forward and finished with four goals. Dean Putt was dominant in the ruck while Cleve Hughes was fantastic all day creating good drive through the midfield. Rhett Jordan and Ben Considine were also solid contributors throughout the day.
Final Scores
Coburg Tigers 2.3 8.7 8.9 13.13 (91)
Williamstown 1.10 4.14 13.19 19.22 (136)

Coburg king of the Cats
By Bryce Jarvis
Coburg was a dominant force against Geelong on Saturday at ABD Group stadium and it was courtesy of a exceptional display from Jay Schulz.
The big forward stood up and kicked a bag of seven goals, which helped Coburg absolutely obliterate Geelong by 74 points. The often-maligned Richmond Tiger was an imposing force for Coburg and has more than likely earnt a recall to the Richmond Tigers.
New skipper Nick Carnell was also instrumental in the Burgers massive victory, booting four goals and once again exhibiting his hard-as-nails football style. Richard Tambling's work rate was first-class and he provided plenty of run throughout the middle and set up several goals for the Tigers forwards.
Tim Clarke backed up last week's blinder with another blistering performance. Clarke kicked two goals and appears to have been a massive pick up for Coburg. Andrew Horne, Tyrone Vickery and Adam Thomson were also all significant contributors on the day.
Coburg was the far superior side from the first bounce to the end of the last quarter, with the Cats offering only a glimpse of hope for their supporters in the first quarter, when they trailed by fourteen points. The Cats were simply pedestrians to the constant onslaught of goals from the Tigers.
The Cats looked stunned for most of the match, with the majority of the Geelong players on the back foot all day. Nathan Djerrkura provided some much needed run through the corridor, and Brodie Moles and Kane Smith contributed three goals each and were no doubt Geelong's best players for the day with the duo giving their all. Scott Simpson was also solid, as was Bryn Weadon, Paul Carson and James Podsiadly who all contributed with goals.
It was a truly dominant performance from the Burgers. Even though their senior squad changes from week-to-week, Rawlings has still been able to gather a core of young players that are doing incredible things on the field.

Hi, I'm from Adelaide :help and was wondering whether the burgers play to TW's gameplan and in turn provide RFC listed players with the necessary practise to learn and refine it or are the RFC guys expected to play a different style?
Sounds like less chip chip backwards and more natural free flowing footy.

I think he will be in
IMO young Jack can go back and find the ball at the burgers, four very ordinary games after a lot of talk in the pre season.
