I am really hurting over our start to the season. Its not the fact that we are 0-3...Its the way we have played with such little confidence which upsets me.However I am the original eternal optomist and am not ready to give up on a season only three weeks old.
First of all it has been well documented that 5 teams have recovered from being 0-3 and made the finals.Sydney(1999) Adelaide(2001)
and Geelong (2004) all took spankings in the opening 3 rounds.Even Richmond were 0-3 in 2006 and then we had a 12 point win over Brisbane. We won 7 of the next 10 games after that before fading again.
We should never under estimate the importance of a win and what it could do to our confidence-even if its only against Melbourne.
The Richmond team I had high hopes for this year contained the names Cotchin,Cousins,Coghlan and to a lesser extent Conners.Only Cuz has played so far this year. The good news is that these guys are close to returning to the side.I know there are big question marks over Cuz & Cogs and their ability to stay on the park for an extended period but whats wrong with hoping for the best case scenario.Cotchin made a huge difference when he came into the side last year and there is no reason why he wont this year.
I know some of you will think I am a fool for still believing but I am sick to death of reading all the negative crap and I would rather put my energy behind supporting TW and the boys for the remaining 19 rounds.

ramps and i are very optimistic and realise it is only round three. ok not ramps just me :lol

Good thread :thumbsup It is easy to predict the worse and then wait long enough for it to happen. I love my club too much to go off my head calling for half the sideto be sacked! Lets wait and see what happens it may not turn out that bad! ive been waiting for 29 tears(that was a typo but i think ill leave it) a few more wont kill me. Oh and to rub it in, im off to sweden for a six month working holiday and was bemoaning the fact that i would be there for what i felt was an immenent finals birth, looks like i may be safe now :shh

IIRC that had alot to do with a bloke called Brown breaking a leg ???

I am with you mat073
My anger has subsided, not completely disappeared but under control
Actually my anger at the moment is directed at people like Ian Wilson getting on the wireless (SEN) and in one breath saying TW should coach out his contract but in the next breath saying there's been something wrong at the Club for 25 odd years. He ilegacy is one of the reasons we've been in the wilderness for 25+ years.... But like so many he takes no responsibility just hangs his hat on the good times under his presidency not the crap he left us in
But back to the topic - the club will always have my support, that will never be an issue

I heard that as well ... the only thing I liked about the interview was when he said "you cant turn poo into raspberry jam" coz its philosophically correct, otherwise it would be better for ex presidents to be saying nothing at the moment.

At least he was honest enough to say it was something the Graeme Richmond used to say

We focus as a club too much on the glory years. The years that if we weren't born into families that were oing to indoctrinate us to the club , were so impressionable to us that we were always destined to support them. Then previous coaches administrators players come on and give their two cents. We need all people associated with the RFC to shut up in a time like this. We don't need a bloke like this to further amplfy our ineptness by hypocritically pursuing a certain line only to then state the bleeding obvious.
My anger is festering. Like MAT073 mine is also under control but I am heartbroken from Monday. Heartbroken for alot more than Monday for the big game before and the big game before that, that we all got ourselves up for only to be crushed.
What I am sick of and questioning is whether Gary March would run his company the way he runs RFC and whether those in power there are "really hurting" and actually have any pride for themselves to rectify this. It has gone on for far too long. I can be emotive just like all of us in here to try and find the catalyst for making us successful but lets face it unless they are merely happy having 30-35K members annually regardless of results and only a few token final series in a generation then what we are feeling now will be occuring far more regularly.
Speaking for myself I will always love the Tigers but there is alot of dissention disenchatment and disgruntled fans out there and this lack of on field success will equate in young members being lost to other clubs due to their success and people not renewing in subsequent years thus resulting in a significant reduction in members and support. I would hate to think that one day we win a flag and it will be insignificant as we would have lost so many people from our generation of inactivity.
Just to contradict myself I was at the TAB today.
Multi
$200 Richmond to make the 8 $3.50 into Barcelona to win the Champions League $2.50
into Liverpool to win the Premier League at $3.75. Hoping to collect $6562.50.
Blind faith. Possibly. Eternal optimism. Probably. Angry Fan Yes.
I'm definentely a Richmond supporter, maybe I needed to put a bet like this on to re-establish the hope that has all but drained away since March 26 after bulding myself up since December 16.

Nice post Tucker :thumbsup.
I am an eternal optimist most of the time, I just have to wait until a few days after the crappy matches until I am back in the zone.
It is easy to predict the worse and then wait long enough for it to happen.
No I don't believe you GR12, there arent people like that are there?

the optimism with Richmond is slowly dying (with me). only because Richmond disappoint, lol!, but ...
i believe we can be almost even with our win/losses (optimistic) after round 11.
this is what i believe we can do ...
4 Melbourne (W) 1-3 MCG (hoping for a big 10+ goal win for confidence!)
5 North Melb (W) 2-3 ED (this match is no easy match, for history shows North Melbourne 'love' playing Richmond)
6 Sydney (L) 2-4 SCG (hope against hope, Sydney have a bad day!)
7 Brisbane (W) 3-4 MCG (learn from last year's 'fantastic' win)
8 Port Adel (L) 3-5 AAMI (hope against hope, again. and hope for another Hughes 6 (can't see), Morton 5 and 4 point win)
9 Essendon (W) 4-5 MCG (Terry 'loves' playing Essendon, if he is still at Tigerland :P)
10 Fremantle (W) 5-5 Sub (hoping last year's form at Subiaco continues)
11 Western (L) 5-6 ED (hoping we learn a lot from the Round 3 loss)
remember 'guys' this is my optimism, so don't kill me for having some optimism/faith ... it is almost all i have left, for season '09 :(

On ya Torch.
That would mean we would need to win 8 out of our last eleven to make the finals assuming we need 13 wins to get there.
Tough ask but not impossible.

yes 'Chuck17' ... :)
we have ... (after Round 11)
West Coast (12 & 22), Essendon (17), Melbourne (18), North Melbourne (16), Sydney (19), Carlton (15)
St Kilda, Collingwood, Hawthorn, Adelaide
could have (if we beat West Coast, Essendon, Melbourne) 4 wins there ...
and pinch wins from North Melbourne, Sydney, Carlton ... there could be 2 or 3 wins there???
and St Kilda, Collingwood, Hawthorn, Adelaide pinch another match or two ???
the optimism is still there!!!
check that out!!!
:)
believe Richmond believe!!!
however ...
its about 'the now!'

Thanks guys...glad to hear that there are other optomists out there. One of the main points I wanted to say was It would be a very long boring season if we all chucked in the towel after only three weeks.
Torch-I am happy with your 5-6 optomism after round 11.Back in 2006 Fremantle was 6-7 after 13 rounds and the Perth Media was calling for Chris Connollys head....They then won 9 games in a row.
I remember thinking things were bleak after round 3 last year when we got spanked by Collingwood. Then we started playing some very competitive football.Hopefully this year will be the same.

There you go CUB more money for your punt with the sponsors of the club.
I feel robbed and violated at $3.50. :rollin Eternal optimism for you at 25 cents more. Good luck anyway CUB hope we clean up. If we make the finals and the first one is in Melbourne we'll meet up for a beer. :cheers

Sorry and pardon my ignorance but as most know here I have no idea about betting and odds
So that would be a reasonable return? :help
I have a Luxbet.com account because I am in the "Master Tipsman" comp and was wondering if it is worth placing a bet for fun :rollin

After 27 years I'd doubt anyone including the club would still be around if we weren't all forever optimistic despite the rollarcoaster that is following the RFC ;D.
Our list is nowhere near challenging even if everything had gone to plan and we made the finals this year. The 2011 comment was a lot closer to the truth (more like 2012-13) than some of the garbage that's come out of the club over the past 9 months. The problem is the club has pumped up expectations with all this talk of promising finals (and this was prior to Cousins coming on board). We never know when to shut up and just let the footy do the talking. Always putting the cart before the horse and ending up with egg on our faces ::).

It's been three games! Yes, the manner in which we lost the games was a concern but the facts remain - we still have 19 games left to play.
Our progress will be slow, will be up and down and will be unpredictable at time but it will be progress and we have to believe it. Forget the coach, forget the skill errors, forget the recent pain and remember that we remain a young, developing list. All good teams need size, experience and time to play together. We are still not there.
Until each player on our list performs consistantly especially the senior players, we have no hope of making the finals in 2011 let alone 2009.
I believe we still will make the finals this year but we need to recapture our confidence and belief and that starts not with players such as Tambling, King, McMahon etc, it starts with Brown, Simmonds, Bowden, Newman and Richo. We need leaders at our club and if they can not perform then they need to step aside and allow our younger leaders to step up and bring us some legitimate change of future success.
I still think we can be successful this year....I just hope the players do :pray
