There is a board challenge brewing.
Not upset about it, just keep Steve Wright and boot March.

Richmond Tigers board challenge
Cheryl Critchley | April 16, 2009
RICHMOND faces a board battle this year on top of its on-field and coaching woes.
It is believed a club stalwart and a sponsor intend to stand for the board.
The two are museum curator Roland Weeks and Philip Allison, from club sponsor Auslab.
Weeks refused to comment Wednesday while Allison could not be contacted. But sources said they had signalled their intention to stand this year.
If no board member stood down, it would force an election.
Richmond president Gary March declined to comment yesterday on a possible challenge to the board.
"I don't make comments about people running for the board," he said. "If people want to run, they've got every right to run."

We are nothing if not consistent :P
Whatever

Most clubs have people stand every now and again. I guess that's democracy.
Anyone know why they've decided to stand?
Roland's on my Christmas card list and a lovely passionate tiger man
Would love to hear why he's decided to stand. Not the type of person I would have thought would have, but there you go.
As I said, you get none more passionate about the Tiges than Roland. He's definitely not a Clinton Casey type who's supported other clubs.
And a life member
Would he be a good board member?
I have no idea.
Would love to hear what he has to say.
At this stage, I welcome this news :clapping

true but they all have hidden agendas.
this board has had no infighting, since miller has gone at board level we have been out of the news.
the club is in its best financial state for who knows how long
so why should the board be challenged?
are there things going on behind the scenes that we are not aware of?

More than likely.
I don't take much notice of what Cheryl Critchley generally writes, so I'd say this was a beat-up.

Personally I don't see this as a "board challenge" at all. 2 unconnected Richmond people deciding they would like to try and get on the board - a great thing and it's what "keeps the bastards honest". Imagine how much more susceptible to corruption and nepotism if the board sat unopposed year after year. Bring it on I say, a challenge is when you have a number representing a single faction or ticket - then you have issues.
And Moi, just interested why you don't rate Cheryl Critchley's articles?

Her items are generally fluff pieces
Don't think she's your hard-hitting type writer
And I agree with what you said, they've just probably decided to stand and not a challenge at all. Three board members go up each year and people either stand or they don't.
No doubt someone from the club will give them a call and say, we can't really afford to have an election, won't you reconsider.
Usually how it works ;)

Yeah, she does usually write articles more around the fringes than the hard-hitting types. I know for a while recently (don't know if this is current) she was only writing part time due to family commitments. For those unaware, she is a very passionate Tiger supporter and member (whole family actually) who does contribute to other Tiger forums from time to time. She wears the hope and hurt just as real as the rest of us. I know that just recently she questioned Damien Barrett about his recent articles and that she passed on to him the thoughts/opinions of us in 'Wally World'. :o

Yes, unfortunately. :(

Yes, but in fairness to Cheryl I'd rather not say in a public forum.

Can I just clarfiy my comment about being "consistent".
It just seems odd to me that any time we are not going well on the filed (even though it is only 3 games in to 2009) these sort of stories appear.
I actually don't think it is newsworthy right at the moment... Board election happen around Nov/Dec.
IMHO no need for this story now, to me it is just fanning the flames

Seems that way to me as well
And I wonder how much of stories like this are based on private conversations, people saying, oh I'll stand for the board but not really meaning it. As good a supporter as some say, we don't need journalists starting stuff like this. We have enough on our plate at the moment :help

Sounds like a beat-up to me just to fan the flames as WP said. No actual confirmation or quotes; just based on heresay and rumour. The election isn't until the end of the year so if there's any truth to this we'll find out in November/December.
