I hope our boys watched today's game at the 'G. No matter how ordinary skill-wise a team is nothing beats a desperate never say die K.I.S.S. 4 quarter team effort.

I agree! I was thinking today watching the game that Essendon has young blokes covering their ageing stars in Lloyd and Lucas and we have ageing stars covering our young blokes :(

Richo has been but not the rest. Simmo, Browny, Bowden (apart from last week) all down on form while Sugar has been out injured. That's been the problem. Our senior players have let us down so far.

Why stop playing the way that got us in front. Especially when it's in Jacko's hands who can't kick precisely  :help.

4 of North's 5 goals have come from our dumb turnovers. We've got to keep the workrate and desperation up which has been very good. We are outplaying North but can't afford giving them soft goals through our dumbness. Kicking straight at goal would be useful too  :-\.

Nahas has been b.o.g. by a mile.
Jordie has been good. Actually hitting his targets tonight.
Good to see Jack find back his old mojo.
JON has been semi-decent since he replaced Richo across HF. Made a couple of mistakes (missed Jack and dropped a chest mark) but done okay.
Whitey plays his best footy when he just plays direct.
Patto has been very good. He and Gus have done well in the ruck.

Yeeehah Go tiges

What a relief, while the game wasn't an eye pleasing spectacle but the determination and effort by the tiges was first class.  Definitely wanted it more.

I've done a 360 on Bowden and think I want him in the back half all season, great game by him.  Lids did well and Tambling looked confident and aggressive which was great to see.

While people will say north were down + injuries, north have been a bogey side for us and to beat them without Richo dominating was fantastic.

Good call Chucky! Bowden is the Mark Waugh of the team! Everytime you time you think he is done he does something great! Also, we have been a team that suffered more than most in recent seasons so bugger north!

:gotigers Great win by the Tigers, you could not question the endeavour tonight, the intensity and the tackling effort was first class. If only we could compete like this for four quarters week in week out. Certainly not a polished effort but if the effort is put in then polish can be overcome by endeavour. I thought Cogs was good tonight, his sheer presence seemed to lift the side and whilst he didnt set the world on fire he is a competitor and thats what we need more of. Will be great to see the 3 C's (Cuz, Cogs and Cotch) together in the upcoming weeks. Also much maligned JON put in a good effort tonight and Tambling had determination written all over his face, if only he could finish in front of goal when he gets the opportunity he could be quite damaging to opposition teams. :clapping :clapping

Other positives:

Graham in the ruck played a serviceable game and actually had his fair share of hit outs, the more game time the better he will get.

Bowden from the backline was still full of running in the last quarter and kicked goals.

Nahas might just be what we have been missing as a small forward, he is quick and pressures the opposition in their defensive zone.

Return to form of Riewoldt

Further improvement of Collins, seems to know the right places to be, just needs to be more aware of where opposition players are

Won without major input from Richo, Brown and Simmonds not playing, these are aged players so wont be around much longer anyway

Negatives (hate talking about these after breaking a losing streak)

Not effecting tackles well enough to restrict handpassing

Kicking sideways when direct football got the lead in the first place

Giving away stupid free kicks, just need to be smarter in the backline

Time wasting in the last quarter when 6 goals up (we need any percentage we can get!!!)

Missing targets (think this one will be constant)

Match umpiring gripe

Whats with the in the back versus holding the ball? How can a player get run down from behind and barrelled into the dirt which results in a holding the ball decision yet when the same tackle is applied by a Tigers defender it is in the back?

This my gripe too! Umpires are there to enforce the rules not interpret them! If you get pushed in the back after having a run it is dropping the ball due to prior oppurtunity. If you get pushed in the back after only a couple of steps it is in the back due to no prior oppurtunity. The result was still the same yet 2 different interpretations were placed on it. No wonder people not familiar to our game call it Aussie(no) rules :banghead

might sound a bit one-eyed but i still think that we have to work alot harder for holding the ball decisions than teams that play against us. Its almost like the umpires have a pre conceived idea that due to our poor skill level we are going to get caught more often than not.

Some general observations.

* Courageous decision to ditch Simmo and I think it paid off. Graham put in a decent shift. Great work ethic around the ground.
* Bowden kicked some crucial goals but (and I'm not a Bowden hater) he wimped out of two situations running back with the flight of the ball. Once at the end of the 3rd when he didn't contest. Once at the beginning of the 4th where instead of turning to face the ball and putting his body between the ball and the leading forward he decided to face the player and try and spoil with the ball unseen.
* Kel Moore is going to be a great player for us for many years. Probably my favourite of the younger brigade.
* Thought Deledio was great and Tambling had his best game of the season.
* Nahas should be an automatic selection every week if he continues to chase and tackle like he has been.
* North were terrible. Really really poor.

While people will say north were down + injuries, ........

There is the fickleness and naivety of people who base all their football 'acumen' on emotion.  If North were 'down' last night then we were also 'down' last week!  How about credit where credit is due - Melbourne played better than us last week and we only played as well as they let us.  Same same this week.  We were better than North - yes, that's right everyone - we were better than North and they only played as well as we let them.

Edit:  Don't mean you think that Chucky - just highlighting that what you said is true.

- all the ins had an impact and a say, jon, cogs, patto and tambling!  :clapping well done to these boys
- GUS imo was great, he and patto dis a great job, and GUS is developing nicely and Patto is just a workhorse and a great team player
- Tambling showed last night he has it, ok he missed that goal, but he was fantastic in that play except for the finish, but his workrate and desire imo led our comeback along with nahas when we were 19-0, All you Blinger knockers, along with the JON knockers will eat humble pie by the years end.  Lets face some facts, Tambling was dropped after a game that he should not of played as he didnt train and didnt sleep all week, but he showed better form last night than some other high picks in the draft who je is always compared to. buddy this yr has been useless and overweight hus far! i have said it all along, by their careers end, tambing will cream buddy as a team player!
-cogs, u gotta love this guy
-jacky boy, made a stand as soon as richo went off injured, he turned teh game on its head and was instrumental in us getting the ascendency
-jordy, cant fault his game and run, belive it or not, he is important to our team
-moore and mguane, are developing into the next 2 best defenders in the comp, these guys are leading our b and f so far and just keep doing what is required plus more
-joel bowden is our general and he is super important to us no matter what his doubters think
-collins, how great is his decision making and feild kicking
-morton, much better workrate this week, is a class act
-richo is just richo, but we played better and more direct when he went off, maybe the players started to take more responsibility when the big fella went off, not sure
-foley was good, better when he handballs and does not kick
-tuck, as usual hard at it
-white, sure he tackles, and has pace but his kicking is just not reliable at all, should make way for cotchin or cuz
-rance still raw but is a keeper, love is application attitude and desire

-DELEDIO!- FANTASTIC, THIS IS WHAT WE WANT FROM YOU WEEK IN WEEK OUT, WE KNOW YOU CAN DO IT, YOU JUST GOTTA BELIEVE YOU CAN DO IT! HIS BEST GAME FOR US IN HIS CAREER SO FAR, HE USED ALL HIS SKILLS AND ATTRIBUTES LAST NIGHT AND HOPEFULLY NOW HE MATURES AND CONSISTANTLY DOES WHAT WE KNOW HE CAN DO!  :clapping :clapping :clapping :clapping

Yeah i reckon celebration was the most emotion that Joel has ever shown! People forget about his game saving mark versus port and the winning goal versus lions last year. I reckon the celebration was a stick up you to those supporters who malign him

You'd hope not, GR12.
It would be a real shame if these miserable and petty people have got to Joel.

The one at the end of the 3rd he was clearly called out by Kelvin Moore who had it covered coming towards the ball.
How you consider the one in the 4th wimping out is beyond me.

Seeing I backed them 39 + was fuming - Why if you can get to the stage where you have won a game by attacking then change it for the last few minutes! could have iced the cake so to say. Anyway I was happy

Credit where it's due.
I wish it wouldn't take his seasons 3 games to get going though.

He's played with a lot of heart the past fortnight.

it wasnt richmonds fault the last few minutes went the way it did, it was norths, they created a deep defensive zone / flood and were not manning up. so we had many loose men in junk time.  not our fault the kangas did not want to compete til the end, shinboner spirit ...pigs ar se

That's the weird thing MM.  His game in the pre-season match v Brisbane at Carrara was sooo similar to Saturday night.  If you saw that game you would have been convinced he was 'up and about' for game 1.

Correct.  And both teams looked dead on their feet.  We had the 4 points, we were knackered, so we took it easy.  I had no issue with it.  Although I had us over 15.5 so I wasn't looking for any further developments in the game.
