Title: Dear Cannibals...
Post by: TigerLand on April 27, 2009, 10:45:55 AM
I'm not all into "I told you so", but this is as extreme as I'll get.

I can't stand "keyboard owners" lashing out at players full stop, whether it be in the form of media articles or forum posts.

To the cannibals that have eaten our own the last few weeks.

I'd like to draw attention to some experts that think Deledio should be traded. Was close to best on ground at 22/23 years of age has up to 10 more years winning Brownlow votes. I'd keep him.

Richard Tambling. Has a great pre season, was in our best round 1. Missed Geelong with a hamstring strain, was rushed back against Bulldogs had a bad game regardless of his excuses. Was hung out to dry. Came back and silenced a few "no it alls". After 1 bad game no more scapegoats please. Great torp, great tackles, smothers and spoils all great 1% that don't get noticed by people sitting at home in front of a television.

Matthew White. Yes he had a shocker last week against Melbourne. Again came back and silenced the whinging cannibals with a cracker. Have the people wanting him dropped wiped the cake off there face yet?

For those supporters that ring up the radio stations and embarrass all of us, for the forum posters that give us a bad name stay at home next week as you did on Saturday night we don't need you. For those that have remained positive with level headed comments relating confidence and our style of game play as the problems my hat is off to you. We have the best supporters in the business but the crowd showed just how many band wagon supporters we have, (as every other club) 30,000 on Anzac day for a club with over 30,000 members was disappointing albeit against the Kangas. For those who did go and have been behind us all the way and those who were lucky enough to see the team sing the song after the game I'm proud to say I had glazed eyes after the song. Hearing it sung with such gusto and Cogs in the middle and the big "hug" at the end. That's what it's all about for mine just very proud to bleed yellow and black this week.

I'd also like to congratulate the selection process for dropping Simmonds and Brown. They have played well over the journey but for mine I just think it's time for the younger men to play pivotal roles in the best 22.

Eat em Alive  :D

Just to clarify that was only suugested by one self proclaimed expert who was later found out to be a very naughty boy who had stayed up way past his bed time.

Haha. It's directed at only a minority, I'm sure they know who they are. But just so they know.

Good post Popelord-you make some excellent points.

I am so greatful we dont live in the times of the French Revolution because there would be only a handfull of players left with their heads intact. As for the coaching staff....well they would of been beheaded after round 3.

It is very hard to stay positive all the time even for an eternal optomist like myself. We do need an avenue (like oer) where we can vent our fustrations which can be very theropudic- We should be able to critique a players worth to the team however any personal insults to a players integrity should not be tolerated.

Yes well said.

There is a lot of distance between a computer and face to face. 99% of comments made in newspapers, forums chat rooms etc wouldn't be repeated if me face to face with particular player, too much power in the keyboard?

Regardless opinions of our younger men have been beyond harsh. Although here is a chance to stand up and say "Hey I was wrong"

I hear you pope, but dont let the club off the hook that easily...Until sat night, I'd only missed the Cats game since seeing the Freo Nab cup match and TBH, I was burnt out with dissapointment, simply couldnt handle making sacrifice only to be massively let down once again...I'll be back, I said as much before declining corporate tickets on FRI...Lets not pretend their is an onus on the club to produce an effort and performance that will attract our legion of fans thru the gate. Lets hope sat night was 1 small step in that direction :gotigers

I'm all up for being disappointed and suggesting remedies for clubs performances but uneducated views on our great game and club grows extremely tiresome.

The big "trade" Deledio and delist Tambling cause he's our next JON, Coughlan is a waste of time he'll injure himself again anyway etc is just genuine dishwater.

All you can expect is 100% effort. If they give that then you can't complain. I think bar the 2nd qtr against Melbourne and patches against Carlton and WB we've been given it a crack. It's all about playing 4 qtr football with the right game plan and understanding your opposition.

Not delisting, trading and be headed half of our list and football department.

Then why 'bag' Brown and Simmo?
Especially after such a good post.
Both players have plenty more to give, there's obviously something amiss with Troy. And the younger kids can learn heaps from these two.

I would have thought the naysayers would be once bitten twice shy on draft doozies after the ill fated Ottens for Meyer/Patto swap ::)

He didn't bag Brown and Simo Beren...My understanding is he believes they deserved to be dropped. There is a difference.

Lashing out at Tambling, JON, Deledio and White's integrity and man hood is a lot different than shamefully admitting that Brown and Simmonds unfortunately would serve the club better in the reserves. Both have had solid careers and unfortunatly whether it's age, speed, durability I believe they wont survive longer than 2009 so I believe Pattison and Graham shoudl play ahead of Simmonds and Nahas, JON, Tambling, Morton ahead of Brown.

I'd contradict myself if I came on here and layed out both players for being *add insults*.. etc. I just believe that Father time has hurt them.

I don't go to away matches, period
That's my prerogative and I don't need to explain myself to you or anyone else, Popelord.
I can't see well enough for our home games let alone subject myself to going to away games where I don't see the game either.
Years ago when I could see, I went to every single game and interstate.
Not going to games has never stopped me buying my membership, and doing lots of other stuff to help my club.
Lots of people can't go for a variety of reasons
They give what they can give.
The rest of your post I agree with.

I'm not all into "I told you so",

Then why start an "I told you so" thread?

I can't stand "keyboard owners" lashing out at players full stop, whether it be in the form of media articles or forum posts.

Maybe internet forums aren't for you then!
Just a suggestion, maybe you should stick to reading 'AFL record' or some such other magazine.

Your "internet name" certainly suits your holier than thou attitude!

If you read the post I said it's directed at a minority. The tiger fans who attended were magnificent and you could tell the cannibals stayed at home. Seeing grown men hug is a wonderful thing. There are hundreds of reasons why passionate supporters don't attend x amount of games. This thread was directed at the supporters who attend rounds 1-3 every year. Anything but a 3-0 is unacceptable and rip our great football club to shreds over the radio, internet and papers. Those people were noticeably absent in the stands.

To them I say stay home.

What a waste of time that was to read.
None of your business what others choose to do
This line of thinking makes me sick
What gives you the right to say those that choose to stay home aren't Richmond people
Who gives a stuff if we don't add to the coffers of the Kangaroos
They can die for all I care.

I dont think you should equate support or love for the team with the number of games they attend or which games they attend.

Yes I was there on Saturday Night but it might be only one or two games I can attend for the season. Attendance of games or lack there of does not remove ones right to be passionate about the players performances good or bad. Your preface of "directed at the minority" does not justify this slur on non attending supporters.

You both have missed the point horribly.

I previously said that there are hundreds of reasons why passionate Richmond people can't attend games.

This is 100% addressed to the same band wagon supporters every year that turn up to Round 1-3 and then jump off because we aren't the same team of the 70's. They get on the radio and slam us for days on end. I have every right to criticize the pea hearts that say they are so passionate about the club yet tear our players apart publicly after 1 or 2 games and sit at home for the rest of the season. The game was noticeably more positive from the Richmond faithful and I love the fact it was. We had the right people supporting us the real Richmond fans (not saying teh ones at home aren't) but the fake Richmond fans were noticeable absentees, and it should stay that way.

This topic has nothing to do with people not attending for what ever reason, how ever soft they may be its irrelevant to what the topic is about.

How clearer would you like it to be??

Clear as mud, it's none of your business or mine what people do.
I managed to get my sister to come to games this year, after years of not following the club
I'm not sure she is really happy about doing that after our first four games.
But no matter how many games she attends, it's her prerogative to attend 0 or all 22 games.  She owes the club nothing.  The club gets her membership, that's the bottom line.
Bandwagon supporters, as much as they may annoy you, are better than none.

Seeing grown men hug is a wonderful thing.

You like seeing grown men hug
You are involved with an u/18's boys side
You have a handle which suggests dominant catholicism

And you think other Richmond supporters are suss?
