Harvey criticises White for bump
April 30, 2009 - 10:54PM
Brent Harvey has criticised Richmond utility Matthew White for an incident immediately after the North Melbourne captain suffered his elbow injury last Saturday night.
Harvey said White went too far in giving him a slight bump as he was leaving the ground during the AFL match at Etihad Stadium.
The All-Australian is out of action for up to three months after needing surgery on the joint.
"He probably could have seen I was in a lot of pain, I put my arm in my jumper as a sling and I said `aw mate, just watch my arm while I'm running off'," Harvey said on Channel Nine's The Footy Show.
"He came over and gave me a little bit of a bump - in a not-so-friendly way, I told him if he (did) it again ... I don't know what I would have done, I couldn't move.
"But I gave him a few nasty words."
Harvey compared it to some treatment St Kilda key forward Nick Riewoldt received from Brisbane opponents in round one, 2005.
Lions players bumped Riewoldt soon after he had broken his collarbone.
"It's going a little bit too far ... you go back to the Nick Riewoldt one, if you can see someone's in genuine pain, you probably don't need to go over and do anything," Harvey said.
"He certainly didn't come over and bump me hard, he probably thought I was joking, I was going to run off and get the footy, I'm not too sure what he thought - there wasn't too much in it."
Harvey said he had no problems with Daniel Jackson, whose tackle caused the injury.
But the Kangaroos star said the AFL should keep an eye on how players execute tackles.
"I don't think there was any malice in (Jackson's) tackle ... I don't think he intended to grab one arm and slam me into the ground or anything like that," Harvey said.
"But knowing the pain you can go through and seeing the consequences of things that could happen, I think they need to probably have a quick peek at it, nothing too big."

Gee that Matthew White is a mongrel. ;)
Fancy bumping Harvey as he left the ground for a long holiday.
Its just not fair.....especially after Whitey didn't allow Harvey A SINGLE POSSESSION before the injury.
I bet Whitey was saying " See if ya can get a kick.... next year .......MAAATTTE". :clapping

Brilliant. :thumbsup :thumbsup
About time we grew some balls on the field.
Suck it up Harvey.

Dunno what you blokes are on about. It isn't 'tough' to bump a bloke with a dislocated elbow. What's next, kick a bloke in the knee when he's just done his ACL?
If it happened as Harvey has said, he's got every right to be annoyed.

I don't think that you know what you are on about FOOFOO.
Matty White is a footballer not a doctor. How would he know that Harvey had a dislocated elbow....or any other injury?
Watch the footage and I bet you don't see a bump.
I think that Harvey may have made a FOOFOO out of himself for his comments last night. Shinboner spirit has definitely evaporated if Harvey thinks he was hard done by as he came off the ground.
Besides, footy is war and you don't take any prisoners, injured or not.... and I'm glad that the Tigers are maturing enough to ensure that there are no prisoners.
When Harvey next plays for the Roos against our Mighty Tigers he will know who to watch out for at the first contest.
EAT EM ALIVE.

It's a MINDSET foofoo and I like it.
Haven't you heard North over the years, how they reckon we are weak and soft.
Now the tide is turning and the shoe is going for the other foot they are getting sooky.
Tissue anyone

Fair enough to test him out if he's staying on the ground, but to bump him as he's running off...doesn't sit right with me. Just because there isn't vision doesn't mean it didn't happen.
Think we need to earn respect by winning games and being tough with our own heads over the ball, not by cherry picking injured blokes.
Agreed Harvey was having a sook, but doesn't make it right to target an obviously injured opponent. I'm not a doctor either but I diagnosed that as soon as it happened, from my couch.
We haven't had much to cheer about this year, but I'm not filling that vacuum by condoning that sort of act.

But there was vision of the contact. Clearly shows nothing in it.

Brent Harvey < Butter
-
I have just seen the footage and it was nothing like the "Riewoldt" incident.....Brent must be still high on morphine

Agree
I wouldn't even call it a bump....
Certainly wasn't a hit....
Doesn't even touch his elbow or arm
It was a nothing IMHO

Brent Harvey harden up,
Geese hows the media looking for a story in this, went with the Chicken Wing tackle - anyone football has just shrugged it off, now it's an apparent repeat of the Riewoldt incident when clearly Matty was simply "Manning up"
In fairness to Harvey he had a mic shoved in his face saying there was something in it. Probably just likes the sound of his own voice.
Agree nothing tough about bumping a guy with 1 arm if he did anyway. The vision shows him simply manning up.
-
It was more just a touch than a bump so there was nothing in it.
How about Hutchy the ambulance chaser. There's Harvey with his whole arm in a brace in hospital or wherever and Hutchy shoves a microphone in his face to get the interview for the footy show :nope

Hahahahaha MT Hutchy reminds me of Dr Nick Riviera.
Remember The Simpsons epsode when Bart gets hit by Mr Burns car and whilst they're in the hospital the good Dr is running after patients screaming" Hi I'm Dr Nick Riviera Attorney At Law is that broken neck? Excellent"
By the way get over it. If it was Andrew Swallow as opposed to Brent Harvey we would not have heard Boo from a Roo about a chicken tackle nor if someone like Judd Lockyer Bartel or Ablett had laid the tackle . By the way Lachie Hansen did his hamstring where is the love Hutchy. Perhaps Hutchy could go to his house and claim that Matty White's gazelle like speed was the factor in Hansen pulling his hammy as he couldn't keep up and over exerted :nopity
North need all the positive and feel sorry publicity they can get after all they use the underdog underpriviliged pathetic Shinboner type to attract their very few fans and whether we are successful tough aggresive or inept we can't find a friend. Some people are just plain and utter morons, he AFL hierarchy have found nothing wrong with it why talk about? Oh wait I know we won so the media throng have left Punt Rd for at least a few weeks and its a slow news week.
