Richardson injuries unrelated

Matthew Richardson is considered a doubtful starter for Saturday’s Round 7 match against the Brisbane Lions at the MCG.
The 34-year-old left the field early in the game against Sydney at the SCG last Sunday, and while he later returned, his impact was limited.
The previous week against North Melbourne, Richardson strained a small muscle in his glute, but he completed the game and was declared fit to play the Swans.
Richmond club doctor Greg Hickey said the injuries were unrelated, but the latest setback has placed a cloud over Richardson’s availability for this week’s game.
The Tigers’ medical staff have been managing tendinitis in Richardson’s hamstring since the beginning of the 2009 season.
“Early in the first quarter against the Swans, Matthew aggravated a long-term niggle in his hamstring origin tendon,” Dr Hickey said.
“He will have some scans over the coming week. We will try to settle the pain and he will need to do some strengthening work.”
A decision on Richardson’s fitness will be made later in the week.
Nathan Brown’s groin injury has improved further and he will be assessed later in the week, while Kane Johnson is still a month away from returning following a knee injury.
Ben Cousins, Trent Cotchin and Kayne Pettifer, all on the injury comeback trail, got through unscathed playing for Coburg in the VFL last Saturday.

Richo injury 'unrelated' to original problem
Jake Niall | May 5, 2009
RICHMOND insists that the injury that Matthew Richardson aggravated in Sydney on Sunday was unrelated to the buttock problem that had him in doubt in the lead-up to the game.
Richardson is now doubtful for Saturday's game against the Brisbane Lions, but the Tigers say it was an existing hamstring tendonitis problem, not the buttock injury that flared during the Sydney game. The hamstring tendonitis problem appears likely to force him to miss this week.
Richardson had hurt his buttock against North Melbourne and was in doubt in the days before last Sunday, but football manager Ross Monaghan said last night that the two injuries were "unrelated".
He said the club had chosen to play Richardson based on the input of medical and fitness staff, with Richardson also having a say in the decision. Richardson, in his 17th season and the AFL's oldest player, is considered a good judge of his own capacity to play hurt.
Monaghan said the club had not misjudged in allowing Richardson to play last week. "Our people are better than that. There are two different injuries."
Richardson, who was hurt early in the game, struggled against the Swans and gained the least possessions of any Tiger player. Monaghan said Richardson would have a scan today and the club would assess the injury and how he recovered before deciding whether he could play; that the Tigers have only a six-day break could go against Richardson.
In a statement issued by the Tigers, club doctor Greg Hickey said the injuries were unrelated. The club said medical staff had been managing tendonitis in Richardson's hamstring since the start of the 2009 season.
"Early in the first quarter against the Swans, Matthew aggravated a long-term niggle in his hamstring origin tendon," Hickey said. "He will have some scans over the coming week. We will try to settle the pain and he will need to do some strengthening work."
If Richardson misses, he will be replaced, in a sense, by Ben Cousins, who is fit to return to the seniors this week after playing his first game since round one in the VFL on Saturday. Monaghan said Cousins was "good as gold".
Trent Cotchin played his second consecutive game at VFL level and is slowly regaining match fitness following an Achilles injury, but it is unclear whether he is deemed fit enough to play seniors yet.
Forward Kayne Pettifer played his first game at VFL senior level since his knee reconstruction last year.

Matthew Richardson unlikely to play
Michael Horan | May 05, 2009
BATTERED Richmond hero Matthew Richardson has little chance of playing against the Brisbane Lions at the MCG on Saturday.
The 34-year-old star forward, who kicked his 800th career goal on Sunday, went into the Sydney clash under a cloud because of a buttock strain but emerged with an unrelated hamstring strain.
Richmond club doctor Greg Hickey said yesterday Richardson had an old problem that had flared. Medical staff have been managing tendinitis in Richardson's hamstring since the start of this season.
"Early in the first quarter against the Swans, Matthew aggravated a long-term niggle in his hamstring origin tendon," Dr Hickey said.
"He will have some scans over the coming week. We will try to settle the pain and he will need to do some strengthening work."
Richardson yesterday told Vega radio he was unlikely to play against Brisbane after pulling up sore.
"It's pretty sore. It's not getting much better, so we will have to see what happens this week, but it might need a week off," Richardson said.
Nathan Brown has overcome a groin injury and is available for selection, while Kane Johnson (knee) is still a month away.
Ben Cousins, Trent Cotchin and Kayne Pettifer all got through their game without a problem for Coburg in the VFL on Saturday.

Two different injuries to the same leg in eight days sounds worse to me than the medical making an error of judgement.
-
Monumental error in judgement. :banghead

IT wasn't me It was't me. ::) What a load of crap. :banghead

these injuries are directly related, they are just trying to hide this.
the hamstring tendon is the origin of the hammy ie where it starts and is attatched to the bone. this is also the point where the glute muscle strain is. its the same area, obviously the glute went as is was compensating for the weakness in the hamstring tendon.
every doctor, physio, chiro, anybody who know anything about the human anatomy and its functions are laughing their arses off at the rfc medical staff at the moment
