Trent Cotchin straight in
Mark Stevens | May 12, 2009
TRENT Cotchin is back. Finally.
Richmond's prized draft pick will play against Port Adelaide at AAMI Stadium on Sunday, barring a mishap at training this week. Cotchin emerged unscathed from a Coburg practice match last Friday and has been given the tick by the coaching panel to return.
The 19-year-old is still underdone, but the theory is he is good enough to gain match fitness in the AFL rather than have an extended stint at VFL level.
Cotchin has not played for the Tigers this season after suffering achilles soreness through the summer.
His absence has been a cruel blow to coach Terry Wallace on top of untimely injuries to Andrew Raines, Ben Cousins and Nathan Brown.
Cotchin, No.2 pick in the 2007 draft, played 15 matches last year after overcoming achilles problems and stamped himself as a future midfield superstar.
Raines, injured in Round 1 after shining through the pre-season, is a strong chance to return.
Brown may also be back from groin soreness.
