Buckley and Hardwick on Tigers' coaching list

RICHMOND has asked for applications for its senior coaching position by July 3, and hopes to begin interviewing candidates for the job within a fortnight.
But while the club has sought formal applications for the job, the Tigers will also pursue any other candidates who have not formally expressed interest, if they believe they are suitable.
The Tigers are expected to be in contact with Nathan Buckley, Damian Hardwick and several other potential candidates for the position, which is seen as wide open and without a frontrunner in the manner of North Melbourne, which is believed to have Buckley at the top of its wish list.
While the initial noises from Punt Road indicated that the Tigers have a preference for a young coach, the club is open-minded about the position.
Its guidelines are believed to focus more on the type of person and coach, rather than his level of experience.
The Tigers are still finalising the panel that will pick the coach, with football operations chief Craig Cameron, football director Tony Free, club psychologist Geoff Bond and chief executive Steve Wright expected to be joined by external experts.
The Tigers intend to begin talking to candidates after their home game against Adelaide on the Gold Coast on July 4.
Kevin Sheedy has already ruled himself out as a member of the panel, with the AFL having invited the coaching legend to be part of the advisory board that will play a part in forming the competition's 18th club in western Sydney.
Sheedy, who is employed by the AFL as a roaming ambassador, has been asked to be part of a diverse group that is being put together to help the AFL begin one of its greatest challenges — the formation of a second team in Sydney.
Sheedy, who is overseas and could not be reached for comment, would join local west Sydney football and business community figures on the board if he accepted the invitation.
The formation of the group is the first step towards establishing a club based in Sydney's west, which the AFL plans to have in the competition in 2012.
Sheedy's track record as a visionary for the code and his tireless promotion of the game have already had him visit west Sydney, while his former Essendon captain, Matthew Lloyd, said on the weekend that Sheedy would be an ideal first coach of the 18th club.
North Melbourne is also forming a panel that will determine who replaces Dean Laidley, with Shinboner of the century Glenn Archer expected to be part of the decision, along with chief executive Eugene Arocca, and directors Mark Brayshaw and Trevor O'Hoy.
Others linked with one or both of the vacant jobs are Richmond caretaker Jade Rawlings, North caretaker Darren Crocker, Richmond assistant David King, Sydney assistant John Longmire, Hawthorn assistant Damien Hardwick and Geelong assistant Ken Hinkley.

One of the most interesting senerios here is if North, in there desperation to get a quality coach before Richmond claims them, decides to appoint a coach well before the season is finished. Word of this could force the Tigers hand and make them either 'give up' on securing a specific coach (assuming the coach they wanted took the 'bird in the hand' offered by North) or make the decision quickly to ensure they got the man they wanted.
Not a good senerio for us as it means we have to rush our process but if they choose to ignore North offers to coaches (and possibly Port in the coming weeks) then they must be willing to lose their first choice for coach too.
Is it better to follow through with our process at all costs and employ a coach at the end of the year despite what is happening at other clubs
or
Quicken our process in direct competition with the other clubs to make sure we get the best candidate (we think) at all cost? :-\

If Buckley accepts the nth position before we are ready to make a decision well good luck to him and them.

There are many very good applicants for the position.
Yep we've gotten lucky for a change. There's sure going to be some quality to choose from for a change..but you still have to choose the right one.

Must follow the process
If Buckley or anyone chooses the North gig simply because it was offered first and it's a quick appointment then they deserve each other.
If Buckley is interested in the RFC job then he will accept the process in place - it may actually make our club look professional for a change ;D

Well as they have said before they want to name the coach one week after our season ends so this is a good start. Keep it moving and don't stagnate.
