HAWTHORN great Dermott Brereton has backed Jade Rawlings's bid to become full-time senior coach of Richmond.
Brereton, who has done voluntary work at Tigerland with the club's young forwards, said Rawlings was ready to coach in his own right.
The five-time premiership star also sat in on the coach's meetings last weekend.
"Put it this way -- it would take someone with outstanding credentials to leapfrog him,'' Brereton said this week.
"He's a very good communicator, extremely honest and has a wonderful rapport with the players.
"He'll just keep getting better. I've been very impressed with him.''
Brereton dismissed working as a full-time assistant on a Rawlings coaching ticket, but said he wanted to continue to help.
"I would only ever help out in an honorary sense, but I enjoy it,'' Brereton said.
He said the former Hawk-Bulldog-Kangaroo had quickly put his stamp on the side.
It's unclear whether Rawlings, who this week declared his interest in the role, will sit through stage one interviews this week or be pushed through to stage two.

Dermie has done a great job with Jack's set shot kicking for goal.
He also wanted Gary Ayres to coach Hawthorn.
So he is a good judge of coaching talent.
