VFL Round 15

Saturday 25th July @ Casey Fields
Ressies: 10:20 AM
Seniors: 1:10 PM
Broadcast:
TV: ABC1
-
The veterans will want to have big games during this clash if they want any AFL game time this year. In particular Bowden, Brown and Pettifier will need to fight hard. Thomson also needs a big game or his debut will have to be next year if ever.
-
Coburg Tigers seniors squad
B: Raines Silvester T. Hislop
HB: Caruso Rance A. Horne
C: McMahon Coughlan Bowden
HF: Liddle Hughes Pettifer
F: Pattison Schulz Carnell
R: Graham Tuck Clarke
Int (from): Keogh, Morris, Polak, Clifton, Rayson, Thomson, Cattapan, Browne, Connors, Oakley-Nicholls, Ambrose, Allan
-
Coburg Tigers ressies
B: Morgan Considine Saville
HB: McErlain Houli McQuilken
C: Abdallah Ambrose Rayson
HF: Jordon Putt Oakley-Nicholls
F: Gilligan Allan Gourdis
R: Polak Cattapan Caruso
Int: Wood, J. Hislop, Dahl, Kandilakis, Kellett, J. Horne, Smith, Bramich, Koroneos, Corry, Tsardakis, Bassi
-
Looks like JON only has 6 weeks left at Punt Rd. Back to VFL ressies.
Surely Polly will keep his place in the seniors after two excellent games in a row ???.
-
Bump.
A rough guess at the final Coburg 22....
B: Raines Keogh Morris
HB: Caruso Rance A. Horne
C: Connors Coughlan Bowden
HF: Liddle Hughes Pettifer
F: Polak Schulz Carnell
R: Graham Tuck Clarke
Int: Clifton, Thomson, Browne, Oakley-Nicholls
-
The above is the actual side. Polak is playing :thumbsup. Thomson, JON and Petts named on the bench.
-
Raines gets whacked across the face but the ump pays holding the ball ::)
Coburg with the breeze. Schulz on a wing it looks.
0 - 6
-
Browne tight by the point post for a point. Browne playing FF.
1 - 6
-
The umps finally realises Rainesy has a head. Free. Goal
7 - 7
-
Im starting to think that Jade the blade would be thinking that he's justified with some of the selection decisions he has made in his time in charge!
-
Lazy rabble at the moment. 4 goal breeze and we're handballing instead of kicking :banghead. These must be the same umps that Richmond had last week too. Giving Casey everything no matter how soft ::).
Finally someone realises you can kick long with the breeze. Thomson kicks a 55m wobbly goal.
16 - 20
-
This umpiring is a disgrace. What utter BS that it was an unrealistic attempt for the mark when the Burger was just holding his ground to allow Schulz to take a speckie.
-
Frees: 5 - 13 plus 3 50m penalties ::)
Quarter time
Coburg 2.5-17
Casey 3.2-20
Goals: Raines, Thomson
-
It is easier to see why some of the richmond boys are back at Coburg.
I think we will seea bit of a clear out at the end of teh season.
-
Inside 50s: 21 - 6 but we couldn't take a mark.
Cogs has had 10 possies but he's just two slow now and double takes because he doesn't want to kick anymore. Sadly he's gone :(.
The other RFC blokes have been unsighted really. Bowden 5 possies but hasn't done much.
Not sure what McRae was doing with our forward structure. Browne is a ruckman not a FF. Cleve was unsighted.
7 straight weeks Coburg has lost it's first quarter.
McRae is screaming at them. "If you make a mistake you do something about it. You're discipline has been terrible. I told you before the game that reputations will count for nothing. Our starts have been really poor."
-
Goal to Liddle from 50m.
23 - 20
-
LOL @ umps. No idea and no else has a clue what they are doing either. Raines copped another head high tackle and it's a Casey free ???
23 - 28
-
Skill level is abismal :help. I reckon 90% of Coburg's handballs have gone to a teammates feet. KICK THE BLOODY THING!
23 - 36
-
It's not a hard game. You kick long and quickly and the forward takes the mark. Caruso long to Cleve. Who misses badly :P
24 - 42
-
Raines chips straight to a Casey player and they get a goal on the siren :banghead
Seriously that was a pathetic display :banghead
Half-time
Coburg 2.5 3.6-24
Casey 3.2 7.6-48
Goals: Raines, Thomson, Liddle
-
I'm guessing there'll be no changes this week to Richmond because no one deserves to come up from Coburg.
Lazy and skill-less and a total lack of team structure and endeavour. When Coburg play now they should call it one metre handball to a teammate's feet under pressure instead of football ::) :banghead.
Polly and Gus did okay floating as loose men in the backline saving goals but that's about it. Cogs getting a lot it but not doing anything with it. The rest might as well have not turned up.
-
Cogs, Polly, Gus and Conners are the only listed players getting the pill, unfortunately though they are having little influence.
Bowden looks a broken man, Petts has seen the game pass him by.Hughes is victim of slow forward movement, JON; Scooby Doo- we are you? Tuck seems to be struggling with the downward adjustment. Frustrating, but while there is life there is hope!
-
Leading RFC players possies:
k h total
Cogs 8 11 19
Polak 7 5 12
connors 7 5 12
Graham 6 3 9
-
McRae was "happy with the scrap and the effort". Fire this spud.
-
Yep I can't see McRae being coach of Coburg next year.
Free to Connors. Point.
25 - 48
-
Casey kick it out on the full. Liddle from the kick back in gets the goal.
31 - 48
-
Yep I can't see McRae being coach of Coburg next year.
Free to Connors. Point.
25 - 48
Maybe we could get Bucks there as an assistant with the view of taking over in a couple of years!
Another goal to Tigers. Thank Geez for the non listed players!
-
Clarke great tackle. Liddle crumbs his 3rd :gotigers.
37 - 48
-
We had possession again and Horne handballs straight to a Casey player and sets up a easy goal for them against the breeze :P
37 - 54
-
Tuck and Cogs out of the pack to Liddle who snaps towards goal. Cleve playing in front gets a softish free. Goal :gotigers
43 - 54
-
Tuck long to Hughes on the boundary 35m out. Point.
44 - 54
-
Carnell snaps from the point post and hits the post.
45 - 55
-
Scrappy but Coburg keep the ball alive and knock it forward. Petts waiting out of the back gets the goal :gotigers
51 - 55
-
Cogs snaps a point from the boundary.
52 - 55
20 mins gone Q3
-
Cogs takes a good mark but doesn't want to kick it. When called play on he chips it 20m and it falls short. The turnover results in a easy Casey goal :banghead.
52 - 61
-
Bye bye Petts :rollin
-
Petts has done his knee again! Hughes limoing off!
-
Carnell point.
53 - 61
Petts has hurt his right knee badly. In a lot of pain.
-
Cleve ankle
Bye bye Petts :rollin
He only stayed on our list because he did his knee last year :P
-
3/4 time
Coburg 2.5 3.6 7.11-53
Casey 3.2 7.6 9.7-61
Goals: Liddle 3, Hughes, Pettifer, Raines, Thomson
-
Cleve ankle
Bye bye Petts :rollin
He only stayed on our list because he did his knee last year :P
There's no way we'd do it again.
-
can tell you that Petts had his knee checked out during the week,
Went into the game with doubt about it.
-
You just think to tell us now, after the fact. ::)
-
Possies:
Cogs 25 (11,14)
Tuck 16 (7,9)
Polak 14
Connors 13 (8,5)
Inside 50s: 41 - 26 and we're behind on the scoreboard ::)
Clearances: 11 - 4
Coburg has had 30 more handballs than Casey but 8 less kicks ::)
-
You just think to tell us now, after the fact. ::)
Mate, I actually posted it on another website on the 22 nd July.

Anyway, you slag me anyway, so would I want to tell you. :banghead :banghead :banghead
-
McRae said we're going to be patient and wait until the last 10 minutes to win the game ???
No one left on the Coburg bench. All injured.
-
How weak was that! Two against one Casey and the one marks. Joel missing the ball completely.
53 - 67
-
Cogs kicking has gone to the dogs. Gone sadly.
Petts has a broken knee cap. The doc has never seen it before at this level of footy.

Yes, I'd be a fool not to listen to your breaking news. Your baseless accusations inspire confidence. :bow

All over. Junk time.
53 - 74

Considering its a break and not an ACL I'd say having his knee checked during the week is completely irrelevant

What does that have to do with anything?
Bones don't break from previous ligament damage
-
Leading possession getters:
Cogs 30 (14,16)
Tuck 22 (11,11)
Polak 18 (12,6)
Bowden 17 (8,9)
-
I have had my knee reconstructed and can tell you that the pain lasts for a long time, even after full strength and stabilty has returned. They are notorious for letting you think that the problem has returned when it has not. This is due in part to the damage done by the surgery and the fact that you place little weight on it for such a long time that pain returns when you work on it again. This could last for years. The cracked patella has nothing to do with a stress related injury, so the medicos should be guilt free. As for McCrae doing a bad job? Is it a coincidence that Coburg go to crap once the so called stars return?
-
Woeful effort especially against an opposition that had 11 changes coming into the game. The lack of structure and teamwork made us look like we had 11 changes. Handball mad as usual :help which completely stuffed us up in those windy conditions. You stick to the K.I.S.S. old fashion footy in those conditions. It's not hard. Poor effort by McRae and the coaching staff although from past performances the senior RFC players don't listen anyway and provide no leadership ::). You can't turn up for one quarter and expect to win. Cogs was one who tried hard all day but the rest either went missing for long periods or didn't show up at all. Oh well it justifies Rawlings' stance on certain players.

BEST:
Coburg Tigers: Rance Tuck Coughlan Polak Liddle Horne
Fair enough bests for the RFC guys. Rance well held Robertson, Tucky was good in the 3rd quarter to get the momentum Coburg's way, Cogs tried hard all day at that level as did Polly.
-
wow Mcrae is doing a fantastic job down there
LMAO at some on here who actually think he is as good at what he does which is SFA
agree he is a muppet, telling them to hold up till the last 10 minutes haha.
Most teams are spent in the last 10 minutes of any game at VFL level & its harder in windy conditions like that
-
It comes as no surprise that Coburg have fallen down once Cogs, Bowden, RAINES, Pettifer, Graham and others have gone back to Coburg. They all play for themselves and should remain there til the end of the year and be punted. Terrible performance giving me no heart for the future.
Andrew Raines.. How did he ever nearly win the Riding Star. Wow he is so bad. He and JON would be the worst two players on a AFL list.
Sorry, but Thomson is garbage, pick 42 for that hack is a disgrace.
Embarrased today by a well drilled, well coached TEAM !!

can tell you that Petts had his knee checked out during the week,

oh ok, so he fractured it at training and it fell apart during the game ::)...what lemon tree do you think we just fell off :whistle

Had sorness and wasnt going to play. Read into that what ever you like. only tell you what I was told and what I posted last week on another website

Stats from today's Herald-Sun...
Coburg's best were midfielder Mark Coughlan, 31 disposals and 10 marks, Shane Tuck, 22 touches, and Graham Polak, 18 disposals and 10 marks.
-
Gourdis did his hammy early in the 3rd quarter of the Coburg ressies game yesterday after kicking 5 in the first half :P
Courtesy of Mossy1978 on BF:
Had a big 2nd term, kicked 3 great goals. Has a booming left foot kick. Was looking threatening until 5 minutes into the 3rd qtr he chased down a long ball on the wing, took a good low mark but over-stretched and strained his right hamstring. he jogged off and got treatment. At three quarter time I went up to him and asked him about, said he felt it tighten and a sharp pain, knew it wasn't good and said it doesn't feel good at all. On ice, disappointing because he looked like he was having a impact. maybe 2 weeks off, maybe 3. Hope we can give him a shot in the seniors before years end.

Really poor effort.
With so many of our middle-age AFL listed players you would expect something more.
Cogs was good.

Gee Polly must be getting close wouldn't you think?? Named in the best for about 3-4 weeks now.

Richmond's Alex Rance shuts down Melbourne's Russell Robertson in VFL
Jon Ralph | July 28, 2009
AFTER breaking Brad Green's jaw in a collision, Richmond's Alex Rance has consigned Russell Robertson to a lengthy VFL stint.
Robertson played for Casey Scorpions on Saturday after being dumped by Melbourne, but Coburg defender Rance shut him down.
Rance kept Robertson to two kicks, eight handballs and no goals in the 33-point Casey win.
Second-year defender Rance was named best afield, with fellow Tigers Shane Tuck, Mark Coughlan and Graham Polak also excellent.
Robertson is unlikely to return in the next few weeks, despite Melbourne's mounting injury problems.
Only two senior-listed Demons played in the VFL, with Casey coach Peter German conceding on the club's website Robertson would struggle to return.
"It was tough for the forwards because of the windy conditions, but (Rance) chased, tackled and put his body on the line," German said. "No doubt it's difficult for (Robertson) to come back, but he'll bounce back."

Round 15 Match Report
coburgtigers.com.au
By Glenn Robertson
CASEY SCORPIONS v COBURG TIGERS
CASEY FIELDS
SATURDAY 25th JULY
Coburg travelled to Casey Fields on Saturday to take on the in-form Casey Scorpions side. Casey were in equal second position on the ladder while Coburg sat just inside the top eight. Although the Burgers have been playing well at home this season their away record has been poor, winning only one match from six attempts. Today was a highly important game with a win keeping the boys in the top eight, while a loss would see them out. Both sides were strengthened with key AFL listed players added, including Robertson for the Scorpions and Tuck for the Burgers.
There was a strong three to four goal wind favouring the end the Burgers kicked with first. In previous weeks the opening quarter has been a bogey term for the Burgers and unfortunately the trend continued again this week. Although the Burgers had an amazing twenty one ‘inside 50’s’ for the term compared to Casey’s six they were outscored three goals to two. Once in side fifty the Burgers did not use the ball well at all, making it easy for Casey to clear the ball out. The Scorpions finished the first term three points up.
Coburg Tigers 2.5 (17) Casey Scorpions 3.2 (20)
Mark Coughlan played a solid game through the middle in his best game for season 2009. Winning plenty of hard ball gets he finished with thirty possessions and was clearly one of Coburg’s better players. Alex Rance was rock solid in the backline, had it not been for his constant second and third efforts the scoreboard may have looked even uglier at the main break. However as it was the Burgers were down by four goals, having scored just one major compared to Casey’s four for the term.
Coburg Tigers 3.6 (24) Casey Scorpions 7.6 (48)
Nic Liddle got the Burgers off to a perfect start in the third term kicking their first two goals within five minutes. Shane Tuck also lifted immensely in the quarter and it looked as though the Burgers would kick out to a handy lead. However the Scorpions had other ideas and kicked two majors off their own to hold onto a very handy eight point lead at the final change.
Coburg Tigers 7.11 (53) Casey Scorpions 9.7 (61)
Coburg needed a minor miracle in the last term if they were going to take the points, but unfortunately it wasn’t to be. Kicking with the strong wind Casey controlled the final term allowing the Burgers only a solitary behind, while they piled on four majors. It was a very disappointing day for the Burgers with not enough players standing up. Graham Polak was again one of Coburg’s best, collecting eighteen touches and ten marks and helping out in the ruck.
This week the Burgers are back at home and take on Box Hill starting at 2.00pm.
Coburg Tigers 2.5 3.6 7.11 7.12 (54)
Casey Scorpions 3.2 7.6 9.7 13.9 (87)
Goal Kickers: N. Liddle 3, A. Thomson, K. Pettifer, C. Hughes, A. Raines
Best Players: A. Rance, S. Tuck, M. Coughlan, G. Polak, N. Liddle, A. Horne
RESERVES
Coburg’s reserves faced up against the Casey Scorpions for the second week in a row. The boys lost the toss and kicked into the strong wind in the first term and finished it to be down by five goals. However an eight goal second term saw Coburg regain the lead at the main change. Again the Scorpions kicked away in the third term, but Coburg managed to stay within touch and easily run down the margin in the final term to take out a three goal victory. David Gourdis and Alroy Gilligan shared eight majors for the Burgers, while Nic Cattapan, Dean Putt and Rhett Jordan were standout players.
Coburg Tigers 2.1 10.5 10.8 15.13 (103)
Casey Scorpions 7.3 7.5 12.7 13.7 (85)
Goal Kickers: D. Gourdis 5, A. Gilligan 3, D. Putt 2, R. Jordon 2, J. Bassi, J. Morgan, M. Kellett
Best Players: N. Cattapan, R. Jordon, D. Putt, D. Rayson, M. Ambrose, D. Gourdis

Stats from McRae's EOTT report
Tuck 42 disposals, 12 hardball gets, 8 tackles
Coughlan 40 disposals (26 first half)
Bowden 27 disposals
Rance 19 disposals
Polak 19 disposals, 9 marks (6 in 2nd qtr)
Pettifer 18 disposals till he broke his kneecap
Thomson 16 disposals (1 kick only though)
Connors 15 disposals till half-time before doing a hammy
Graham 12 disposals, 26 hitouts, 6 tackles
Raines 5 inside 50s, "lots of the footy"
Apart from Polly and Petts, McRae criticised most players ball use and not doing enough with it for the number of possessions they had.
