Title: New coach to be appointed in early September
Post by: one-eyed on July 23, 2009, 03:47:43 PM
According to Rawlings today:

"I will be interviewed during the season and the appointment will be made pretty early in September from my understanding," Rawlings said.

"So I will be presenting (to the club's board) pretty soon and trying to combine that, with coaching a league side, is just my lot but yeah, I am looking forward to the process."

"I won't be purely judged on wins and losses it's more about how the group is going and I have been really pleased with how they have taken on board the subtle changes we have been trying to make," Rawlings said on Thursday when asked about his chances of keeping the job next year.

But the Tigers caretaker coach is still up against a strong field of assistant coaches from rival clubs including Essendon's Alan Richardson, the Bulldogs' Leon Cameron, West Coast's Peter Sumich Hawthorn's Damien Hardwick and Collingwood pair Brad Scott and Mark Neeld.

Of those mentioned, who would we want? Provided Bucks/Malthouse/Rawlings are out of the picture for whatever reason.

With Buckley and Malthouse out of the picture I would have Richardson and Hardwick out of the rest.  To coin a phrase from Hird, I reckon Richardson is a 'sleeper'.

Hardwick would probably be the leader from that bunch
Hinkley wasn't mentioned but you'd have to have him up the top of the list
Richardson, Sumich, Scott and maybe Cameron probably next rung
Then Neeld and others

Its a strong list to choose from, we have done a great job attracting that quality and depth.
We have taken the right path compared to the Roos.

Well done Tigers!

Agree WP.

I could see Richardson, Hardwick, Brad Scott, Hinkley, Cameron and Rawlings making the 2nd phase six candidates.

Im hoping the end candidate will come from Hardwick, Hinkley or Richardson. And of course if Malthouse becomes available then Malthouse becomes the preferred candidate.

Rawlings is destorying the moral around the club. Tensions are high & some players are talking of wanting out

Youre probably right and i hope so! The people who are considering walking are those who have had it their own way for too long! From a distance itseems to me that Rawlings couldnt give a flying shag for reputations but could for team ethics.

Given all the "sleepers", I certainly hope our next coach will be awake by the time he takes over

Im watching the pies v blues live on austar and there is no way that collingwood could afford to compromise their coaching set up by asking for a succession plan.

Tensions should be high, everyone should be scared about losing their spot!

If we are finally demanding higher standards from our players then I don't see why supporters would complain about that. Those who are up to the task have nothing to fear.
