Title: Dean Polo
Post by: one-eyed on July 27, 2009, 06:40:52 PM
Deano has flown under the radar a bit this year after debuting with a blaze of glory in 2006 and then being a bit of an outcast in 2007-8 stuck at Coburg. Came back into the side this year for the Geelong game after the first round debacle and has played every game as a small defender averaging 18 possies per game.

What is everyone's thoughts of Polo?

To be honest Im not a huge Dean Polo fan....my heart is in my mouth every time he touches the ball.

Can look very "one paced" at times almost like he is running in slow motion.

This year I think he has been an honest footballer and deserves his spot in the 22... yet at the same time I believe he is fully expendable.

Trade bait.

are you stirring the pot with this one??
i'm not sure about dean polo, i mostly think that our best side is one that doesnt have room for him in it. having said that he has been pretty good in the last few weeks... might be a good player in a better side or he could fall away.

For a footballer to fly under the radar at Tigerland then he must be doing well!Worth perservering with!

I like the kid.

Tough as. Eyes on the footy.
Only issue is he gets caught in possession often due to a lack of awareness.
Come to think of it Jacko had a similar trait in his game too and he has rectified it.
Plays a role Raines played in 2006-07 and he is streets ahead of Raines now.
Worth keeping. Keep Raines on the list too and ship Raines off to GC17.

We've needed a reliable back pocket and he's doing that job for us
Certainly have no other genuine options for the position so can't see why he won't stay in the side
Looks unco, but somehow puts it together

I think being BOG in your first game has proved to be a curse for Dean.

Had a shocking run with injuries. I don't think people realise how bad that shoulder he had the reco actually was.... Not surprised it took a fair while to get over

His not playing his best football. He over-commits himself sometimes & radical in my view. We are not seeing the Polo l know. his courage is unquestionable & he is very football smart but he can do better IMO.

I had him half written off at the start of this year but think he has shown plenty to keep a spot on the list in our starting 18.

While I haven't had him in my top five many times this year he consistently makes it in the best 5-10 for mine.

Yes and has worked on his game, doesn't get caught with the ball as much as he used to...especially in the last 2 games.
Tough. Starting to look at home in his position.

He is just coming into his prime, with 50 games under his belt and some posters want to get rid of him??????????
Has poise and good footy smarts.
Will be a long-term player. Looks to have finally realised that hard work pays off.

he tries hard and has got alot of courage
if more of our players were prepared to go for hard ball like polo (from the start of the year) we may have been in a better position now.  In saying that he still has room for improvement.......

he's practically a certain starter ea week, has a stack of courage, really puts his body on the line....at times looks painfully slow but overwhelmingly makes a positive contribution :thumbsup

TIGERS midfielder Dean Polo celebrated his 23rd birthday and 50th game with family and footballers at a trendy South Yarra nightclub on Saturday night.

Revellers said Polo partied hard with brother Jamie (above left), friends and the Richmond squad at White Charlie nightclub on Chapel St.

"They stayed till the early hours of the morning, after White Charlie had closed, to celebrate,'' said one party-goer.

Said another: "He definitely knows how to party in style.''
