The Age is still saying the coaching situation is still ongoing at both clubs but Mike has Hardwick going to North.....
Roos to beat Tigers on Hardwick
Mike Sheahan | August 13, 2009
NORTH Melbourne is expected to offer its coaching job to Damien Hardwick within days.
With Richmond committed to a continuing process in search of a new coach, North can swoop on the highly rated Hawthorn assistant.
Hardwick has generated strong interest at both clubs, but Richmond is locked into further interviews.
North will wrap up its interviews tonight.
The Roos know they must move swiftly if they are to avoid the risk of being seen as rejected for a third time. They were unsuccessful in their audacious bid to secure Nathan Buckley and learned yesterday John Longmire would stay with the Swans.
Longmire, a North premiership player, will succeed Paul Roos in Sydney in 2011.
The Swans swung into action as soon as they learned Longmire was to be interviewed by the North coaching sub-committee last night.
He has been second in charge to Roos since 2007 after joining the Swans in 2002.
Roos is expected to remain with the Swans post-2010 in a mentoring/marketing/development/recruiting role, although he said on 3AW last night the family would consider a move to the United States, home for his wife, Tami, in two or three years.
Hardwick, soon to turn 37, probably is favourite at Richmond, but there are three other contenders - Ken Hinkley, Alan Richardson and caretaker Jade Rawlings - with the possibility former North coach Dean Laidley could be another.
At North, it is a three-way race between Hardwick, caretaker coach Darren Crocker and Collingwood assistant coach Brad Scott, who is highly regarded at Lexus Centre, but is in only his second year in the system.
His time will come.
Crocker is expected to miss out. He will get his last roll of the dice in an interview tonight.
Hardwick is in his fifth season at Hawthorn and was the last man eliminated at Essendon when Matthew Knights replaced Kevin Sheedy after the 2007 season. He played in premiership teams at Essendon and Port Adelaide in 207 matches from 1994-2004 and was part of Alastair Clarkson's premiership coaching panel at Hawthorn last year.
Oddly, he seems to fit the bill for those at North Melbourne divided on whether the new coach needs to be "a North man" or an outsider.
Hardwick started in the AFL system in North's under-19 team under Denis Pagan before being let go. Essendon took him at No. 87 in the 1992 national draft.

Richmond shouldnt be pressured by media reports ... if North offer Hardwick the job then good luck to them, If Hardwick is the best man for our job and if he wants our job he will wait for our decision.

you're right. hopefully he tells north that he wants to wait for our process to play out, meaning he prefers our job more.

Absolutely agree with you Ramps.
If Damien Hardwick wants to coach RICHMOND and he is the best bloke for the gig then he will follow the process he has known is in place through, if he just wants to coach he will take the North job....
North are absolute joke of a club by the way - they seem to have no idea what they are doing ..fantastic stuff :clapping ;D
-
I'd also be aware it's written by one Mike Sheahan, who already has had a sook about us this week.
We don't know what his agenda is.
-
good if ita true, as hardwick(softkok) dosnt like us, never has, never will , never really wanted to coach us and is an overrated meat head

for a change i think we all agree on this.
if Hardwick wants and accepts the North job then good luck to him they can have him.
we dont need someone who is purely after the money. we have been down that road with Wallet

Will you support Damien Hardwick if he is the one selected by our club? I will support Richardson or Hinkley even though Id like Hardwick to get the gig.
-
Agree also if Hardwick cant continue through the process then so be it.
But as also stated Mike might is a bit cut & will write anything at present ;D

Agree WP. Just as I predicted they are so far behind after chasing Buckley that all they can do is pick whoever they think is best from relatively afar and throw all their eggs in one basket.
They either want Hardwick to say yes to them or to force our hand to offer Hardwick so that they have a clear run at everyone else. We aren't going to fall for it.

Correct.
Also any coach who says yes to North before we have finished with our process- from the ones we have interviewd- you really have to wonder whether they like to take the easy option ... in that case it raises doubts about there capacity to coach our club which needs a serious individual to get there hands dirty and work hard.

Next coach better be out on the track at all times instead of this poo Tuesdays with Terry :lol

Maybe that's part of the 'process'
KH, AR, JR, DH and DL.
No days of the week start with any of the initials of the guys on the short list.

It almost seems like North find out who the media believe is the best candidate or who has been short-listed and appears favourite at another club and then goes for them. No process, no consideration, no clue. Just annoying really and once again reeks of desperation and panic. I hope Hardwick is not swayed by the 'bird in the hand' senerio and sticks it out to try and secure the best position available.
I would like to see Laidley brought in as a tactical/opposition analysis coach assisting whoever claims the position eventually.

When did Laidley start gathering this reputation as a tactical genius? I hadn't heard it until about 4-5 weeks ago.....

Ch 10 news saying speculation is growing that Hardwick will take the North job. They could be just basing that speculation on Mike's story this morning.

If we really wanted Hardwick and he was the outstanding, "miles above anyone else" candidate, we would have done something about it by now. Relax everyone, we will get the right person. It may still be Hardwick, who knows, but we will make our decision after knowing all we need to know about all of the applicants. If it is a close run thing, if we lose Hardwick, does it really matter that much?

North Melbourne set to beat Tigers to Damien Hardwick
Greg Denham | August 14, 2009
HAWTHORN assistant coach Damien Hardwick last night was the only common denominator on the senior coaching short lists of Richmond and North Melbourne.
He could be offered the Kangaroos position before the Tigers finalise their interview process.
Richmond stressed last night it would not hasten its comprehensive process because of speculation Hardwick could be lost to North.
The Tigers will offer a maximum three-year contract to the new coach, two years less than Terry Wallace was given when he was appointed at the end of 2004.
North Melbourne started its coach search after Richmond, primarily because it waited on Nathan Buckley, who eventually chose Collingwood, but the Kangaroos have put their foot on the accelerator in the past week, especially since Wednesday when John Longmire decided to remain in Sydney -- a development that caught the Roos off guard.
North Melbourne's short list is Essendon and Port Adelaide premiership player Hardwick, dual Brisbane premiership player and Collingwood assistant Brad Scott and current caretaker coach and North premiership player Darren Crocker.
Short-listed at Richmond are Hardwick, Essendon assistant Alan Richardson, Geelong assistant Ken Hinkley and caretaker coach Jade Rawlings.
The caretaker coaches at both clubs are believed to be trailing in the race to win senior positions next year.
Rawlings has a coaching win-loss ratio of 50 per cent, having steered the Tigers to three wins and a draw from his seven games as interim coach. Crocker broke the ice last weekend in his seventh match in charge with a win over Melbourne after drawing with Richmond in round 16.
It is seems unlikely that former Kangaroos coach Dean Laidley will seek the Richmond job, as he has yet to meet the Tigers to give a definite answer on whether he is keen to go through the initial interview process.
North Melbourne general manager of football operations Donald McDonald, a caretaker coach at Hawthorn in the second half of 2004, handled the preliminary interviews of prospective coaches before narrowing the field to four, which included former Roos premiership forward Longmire.
Hardwick was the first to present to the Kangaroos panel, which consisted of McDonald, chief executive Eugene Arocca and board members Trevor O'Hoy and Ron Joseph. North Melbourne, which will offer its new coach a term of at least three years, is known to have been disappointed at not being able to consider Longmire.
Richmond's initial coaching sub-committee completed its interviews last week, involving 11 candidates.
In the second stage of the Tigers process, a different panel has interviewed Hardwick and Richardson, with Hinkley and Rawlings to come.
Hardwick yesterday received an encouraging endorsement from Hawthorn coach Alastair Clarkson, but the Tigers have received equally high praise of Hinkley from current and former Geelong coaching staff.
Clarkson said Hardwick was ready to take the next step to the role of senior coach. "I'm not privy to what discussions are being held with the Kangaroos and Richmond, only that he is still involved with those processes," Clarkson said. "We've supported him all along. He has been in our system for five years and our view is that he is ready to coach senior football. It will be up to Richmond and the Kangaroos to determine whether that's the case as well."
Clarkson was an assistant coach at Port Adelaide in Hardwick's final year on the field, a premiership season at the Power, and recruited him as an assistant when he was appointed Hawthorn coach late in 2004.
"I've known him for a long, long period of time," Clarkson said. "We played footy together back in the days at North Melbourne."

That would be LMGO - North are just reeking of desperation - To basically say no to a certain start in the hope that greener pastures are around the corner - Crock must be spitting chips and firming as the days go by at the same time (http://www.freesmileys.org/smileys/smiley-laughing013.gif)

Don't think they are particularly bothered. They were always behind us in the pecking order. Could have sat and waited for us to make our decision then sort through the scraps or try to make a play at who they see is no. 1. They played their cards and were trumped by Collingwood and Sydney.
I don't think that they would hire Crocker under any circumstances, nor do I think that someone like Hinkley (say we took Hardwick or Richardson) would say no to North on the basis that he wasn't their first or second pick. They have nothing to lose, except their brand, which is probably the worst in the league anyway.
-
Seems the media are still only guessing. Matthews asked Robbo specifically if Hardwick will be offered the North job tomorrow or if he's just the presumed favourite. Robbo replies he's just the favourite for both North and Richmond jobs.
-
Mike earlier today was backing away from his Hardwick to North claim in his article. Mike said Hardwick is North's preferred candidate yet Hardwick's preferred club may be Richmond. North don't want to be seen left at the alter for a third time. So according to Mike at North it's Hardwick, Scott and Crocker in that order. At Richmond Hardwick, Hinkley has he's admirers and Richardson.

They also did the "who would you coach" scenario again between Melbourne, Richmond and North. Both Mike and Gerard (Melbourne supporter and Melbourne player :lol ) said............................
wait for it....................
....................................
Melbourne! :o
And Hird still said Richmond, even after Saturday's game.

IIRC, it stands for if I recall correctly.
