Coburg's last game for the year as they have the bye next week. They would need to win this game and hope the Pies and Sandy lose their last two games to make the finals. On last 2 month's form that ain't going to happen.

You'd expect a few RFC guys at Coburg will be playing their last game while on an AFL list.

A guide on the breeze - a couple of balls kicked into the wind have gone backwards.

Vickery, Silvester, JON and Schulz were mentioned. Sounds like the better players are Burgers rather than RFC blokes.

Half-time

Coburg    0.0     4.5-29
Bullants   7.5    11.6-72

Goals: Schulz, Hughes, J.Hislop, Morgan

Bullants working harder and superior ball use. Coburg like Richmond has been punished for their turnovers. Also too much space given to the Bullants.

Bests: Morgan, Liddle, Clarke
Schulz presenting up forward. Vickery presenting in the ruck and around the ground.

Shocking effort by Coburg today....

A total lack on interest especially by some of the RFC blokes

Just a quick note on Vickery... after watching him today it was actually pretty clear why he was "relieved" of AFL duties. The kid looks absolutely spent.... just looked really tired. Ditto (to a lesser extent) Post

I thought Morgan was the best player for Coburg by a long way, followed by Silvestor who actually looked interested

Raines didn't play

Only 12 (I think it was 12) RFC blokes played

Jay tried hard but it was a very very overall poor effort by Coburg and when he was forward he would lead and delevery was crap

then he was moved into defence he was better

There was a gale blowing to what I'd call the Bell St end which Preston had first use of and the kicked 7 goals to zip int he first qtr and that friends was the ball game

I thought the Coburg set up was woeful against the wind, it seemed they were hell bent on damage controll from the first bounce rather than even attempting to score themselves

Glad the season is over the be honest....  ;D

He gave 'em quite a decent bake at 3/4 time. He said, "going by your body language today, you look like you're not there. Like you're already on holiday". I think that pretty much summed up Coburg ever since McCrae took over.

Could not agree more Daniel. Could not agree more.

If we're resting these younger guys cuase the AFL season is tough then why are they made to play VFL. If Tyronne was fit enough to play VFL then he shoudl have played AFL. Simmonds is finished, sorry Troy.

Yep since the older RFC players have gone back knowing their time it's killed team spirit. From 5-2 to 7-11  :P.

Silvester, Putt, JON, Schulz, Vickery, Hughes, Post, Browne, Gilligan and Cogs played for Coburg today. No one in the ressies for a change. Bullants had 14 Bluebaggers.

Here we go again! Why blame the coach?  Its the players who do it not the coach. Things have gone pear shaped ever since the so called older blokes went down. If it is McCrae's fault then Rawlings is obviously a lot better coach than we give him credit for!

My mate was drinking with Ryan O'Connor at the London after the Hawthorn game, and the Rhino basically blamed the Burgers demise on "all the old Richmond poo" that came back into the team.Makes you wonder if there's such a schism between the Coburg faction, and the Richmond faction if it isn't worth going it alone.

Hmm interesting - stupid thing for the GM of Coburg to say to be honest - some things really should be kept in house  :banghead :banghead There's an old saying in footy "you can think it but bloody well don't say it if it isn't supposed to be in the public domain"

And just on the final part about factions - it never used to be there .... and would have appeared to have only been there in the last half of the season

Just reading them last few posts tells you the 2 clubs are not working together & a split is needed.
its time Richmond thought about saving itself before trying to save other clubs.
Richmond need to field its own VFL club to recover as a power side & lift skill level

Yeah, Rhino probably should have kept it to himself, but then you know the tongue-loosening effect of a few beers. The thing was, my mate asked him directly "What the hell has happened to the team since McRae took over", and O'Connor leapt to Craig's defence, saying he was a good coach, and so on.
As for the factions, I think it's always been there to a degree, just more subtle. From Coburgs perspective it was things like Phil Cleary complaining that we were swallowing their identity. The successful push to have the old Coburg song re-instated after a win. And complaints that there were too many Richmond players in the seniors. Conversely, some Richmond supporters would grumble about the Coburg strip looking like an Essendon jumper. Others missed our old reserves games at Punt Road. And there's no doubt that we've always felt constricted by the 12-10 rule. I guess these fissures just open up a lot wider when the team plummets out of finals contention as spectacularly as Coburg has. From my own perspective, I've always thought it was too expensive to field our own team, and was happy to have a bit of give and take with the different colours and songs to try and make the alliance work. But I'm starting to wonder if maybe we could stuff our own players development a lot quicker if we were to stand alone.

But I'm starting to wonder if maybe we could stuff our own players development a lot quicker if we were to stand alone.

That's the bottom line in my books, no point saving $$$ by not fielding your own team if it is having such an adverse effect on the club as a whole.

Let's see who has their own sides Geelong, Collingwood - Haven't been going to shabby over the years have they.
Hawthorn pretty much own Box Hill so there's another .....

The sooner we get our own team, the sooner the young guys get better oppurtunitys at a higher level, the sooner the senior team steps up to contend in finals again and the $$$ will take care of itself from there.

Punt Road is a key in this also, yeah have your 3 or 4 games out whoop whoop the rest as curtairaisers for our night matches at the G or Sunday games - People will pile in. The Shop is pretty quiet most of the time but is packed when Punt rd is open for any reason. Just a bit of thought and there is great promise in making this happen.

CUB - I will repeat what I've said before games at Punt Road in the short to medium term are not an option while it is being re-developed.

Also the RFC don't want to lose Craigieburn as it is a massive growth area that the club can utilise and grow their brand and they need it as a summer training venue. Bottom line they need to keep Craigieburn and to do that VFL matches would need to be played there 4-5  games a year wont cut it. Ultimately, the VFL determines which venues get used and they want VFL footy in that growth corridor

Should the RFC look at fileding their own VFL team - my view now is yes they should but they need to do it in a way that they maxmise their investment and I see Craigienurn as maxmising the Club's investment

Round 19 Match Report
By Glenn Robertson

NORTHERN BULLANTS v COBURG TIGERS
SUNDAY 23rd AUGUST
NAB OVAL

Coburg travelled to the NAB Oval on Sunday to face fifth placed Northern Bullants. It was still mathematically possible for the Burgers to make the finals, but the boys were relying on other results to fall their way.

Graham Polak returned to Richmond for his long awaited return, while Troy Simmons and Kelvin Moore were also key outs for the Coburg side; returning to the AFL. Adam Thompson was rewarded for his consistent season with the Burgers also elevated to make his debut for Richmond.

The wind favoured the end the Bullants kicked to first and boy did they take advantage of it booting through seven majors for the quarter, while at the other end the Burgers couldn’t manage a score. Clearly the Bullants dominated the quarter winning in all measureable areas. Next it was Coburg’s turn to kick with the wind.

Coburg Tigers 0.0 (0)   Northern Bullants 7.5 (47)

It was an even contest in the second term with both sides dominating patches of play. However it was disappointing for the Burgers as they conceded another four goals while only booting through four themselves.

The class of experienced players Tim Clarke and Mark Coughlan showed as both players continued to find the ball throughout the match, but they just didn’t have enough teammates around them.

The Burgers trailed by seven goals at the main break and it was about to get worse.

Coburg Tigers 4.5 (29)   Northern Bullants 11.6 (72)

Coburg didn’t have any answers for the surge that the Northern Bullants put on them in the third term, as the ball spent ninety percent of the term in the Bullants half.

Jarrod Silvester was one of the Burgers best battling hard across the full back line all day. He was well supported at centre half back by Jason Morgan. Both players beat their opponents well, but with the mass amount of ball coming into the backline they never stood a chance at stopping the Bullants kicking a winner total.

Coburg went into the final change down by a whopping ninety four points.

Coburg Tigers 4.6 (30)   Northern Bullants 19.10 (124)

Both sides had little to gain in the final term and as it ended so too did the Burgers season for 2009. Unfortunately Coburg have the bye next week and have finished the year on a fairly sour note. After such a solid start to the year the side was constantly hampered with multiple forced changes to the side each week, including that of their coach Jade Rawlings. There are still plenty of positives to take out of the year including the massive number of players Richmond have blooded through the VFL.

The attention now turns to the reserve side who are currently sitting in third spot on the ladder and are a certainty of playing finals for season 2009.

Coburg Tigers       0.0   4.5     4.6      6.9 (45)
Northern Bullants  7.5  11.6  19.10   23.12 (150)

Goal Kickers: J. Schulz, N. Carnell, M. Coughlan, J. Hislop, J. Morgan, C. Hughes

Best Players: J. Silvester, J. Morgan, T. Clarke, B. Clifton, M. Coughlan, N. Caruso

RESERVES

The Burger reserves pout up a solid fight against their Bullant opponents but in the final quarter were over run with the Bullants using the massive wind to their full advantage. Coburg led by twenty one points heading into the final change but couldn’t stop the Bullants slotting through seven majors in the final term. James Kandilakis played his best game for the Burgers and was well supported by Jon Horne and James Keough. The Boys still hold onto third spot on the ladder a game clear of fourth, but have a bye this week in the final round.

Coburg Tigers        2.6  4.6  10.13   11.14 (80)
Northern Bullants   2.0  7.4    8.4     15.6 (96)

Goal Kickers: J. Bassi 2, A. Corry 2, J. Kandilakis, D. Rayson, D. De Cesare, M. Ambrose, S. McCallum, J. Horne, J. Morris

Best Players: J. Kandilakis, J. Keogh, J. Horne, N. Cattapan, J. Morris, N. Wood

There numbers are slowing growing with what the VFL term "walk-ups".

There is a massive difference between Casey Fields and Craigieburn. Casey Fields went it was built had no houses around it, the area is now expanding further out, which now means they get walk ups.

Craigieburn on the other hand is surrounded by homes and 2 schools - this means the people are already there so they have access to the automatic "walk ups".

So as a reuslt of that if the RFC get 2000-5000 new families over say a 2-5 year period by being out there then that is a great result for the Club.

Doesnt mean those familes are going to follow football.
Harness Racing recently located to an outer suburb -Growth Corridor at Melton.. ::) ::) ::)
They have to lock the gates after the first race to keep people in. ::)

I dont agree that RFC should go out there.- Craigeburn. Complete waste of time- and money
Wouldnt think the players would be too rapt either going all that way for training :banghead :banghead :banghead

Firstly the RFC has not spent one cent on the buidling of Craigieburn FACT - so they haven't wasted any money.

As for the players not liking going out to craigieburn to train - so sad to bad, they are paid employees and they go where they are told - my advice grow up boys.

Lets not forget that currently during the summer they are nomads so you would think they would be happy to to have a fixed address for a change

I'm not happy about any plans to move our training base out to Craigieburn. It's just taking the players away from their traditional supporter base as far as I can see. One of the advantages of living in Richmond is that I can wander down to Punt Road or Victoria Park to watch the boys train anytime I like. Besides, I thought the plan was to widen Punt Road oval to give it the same dimensions as Docklands, and give us state of the art gym and pool facilities. If this is about appeasing the Richmond Cricket Club over use of the ground in summer, wee 'em off I say.

The RFC might have to employ that tactic too soon if we keep playing so crap
