Evening all.
I thought it may interest you to know, that I am attempting to compile a list of all those players who played with Richmond Reserves, Under 19's or played in Practice Matches, or trained with the club, or were drafted to the club- BUT NEVER played a senior game for Richmond.
The idea has come to me after the numerous requests I receive (and the Richmond museum), that their 'uncle' , 'grand father' played for Richmond, only to find it wasn't a senior team at Richmond.
So I thought i would put the list out there, and see if anyone wish to add to the list.
Feel free to submit names on this thread if thats ok.
At the moment the list is at 317 names.

Richard Senior and his brother played in 2nds premierships but never for the 1sts.
From memory Dr Richard Senior left when Francis Bourke was coach.
-
Rhett.
Paul Dimattina was on Richmond seniors list and never played a senior game
-
Jackster- Funnily enough I did a double take when I started compiling the list. But there was a Frank Dimattina on our list in 1997. I think it was Frankie Dimattina , who is one of Frank's three sons (the others being Paul and Andrew). I did miss Paul off my list however so I will add him now.
Ekto- I will add Richard Senior as well thank you. Do you know his brothers name.
That brings the list to around 315 names

Sorry Rhett, I wrongly read it
Frankie Jnr played at Richmond reserves actually.
He played against Stephen Milne when he played at Essendon in a Monday night reserves game at Waverley.
Frankie got 4 weeks for striking Milne. lol
Frankie was a really good player, size was the issue.
I remember his kicking for goals in pre season game at Sandringham. Would say mid 90,s as Scott Turner was playing

Bit of Trivia here Rhett.
Frank has four sons, his youngest Nick plays for Old X- VAFA , along side Tim Fleming.
Grand Final this weekend I think.
Nick was on Collingwoods VFL list last year.
-
How could I forget Nick Dimattina- Frankie and Andrew and I use to terrorise him at their restaurant on a Saturday night.
Keep the names coming mate. We are up to 339 names.
And I am yet to scour through my 1960-1970s records

Did Andrew Payze who played for the Crows in their first season(s) ever end up on our actual list?
I know he was drafted but didn't come across the border (like so many before him) ;D

Not sure WP. I've included the South Aussies who never came over as I guess technically they were on our list. Rhett can decide if he wants to include them or not.

Out of the above list, I will nominate who could actually play, but for reasons didnt play at RFC.
Andrew Tarpey ( was never the same due to a head injury, was a gun player)
Paul Dimattina ( 150 game at the Western Bulldogs - enough said- they actually picked Mark Pitura over him :banghead :banghead)
David O'Sullivan -Went on to kick over 100 goals for 8 years straight in Country and Suburban Footy, needed someone at Punt Rd to get him fit

If this is the Matthew Clarke that went on to have a 15 year, 258 game career with Brisbane, Adelaide and St Kilda then he could go a bit too. I know he was with our U19's before he went to Brisbane so I'm guessing it was the same Matthew Clarke.

Richmond U19's 1985 Premiership side
(http://oneeyed-richmond.com/images/richmond/U1985.jpg)
Too long ago (and I was a young kid at the time) to remember names so if anyone recognises any faces then post away.
Top row 6th from left is Simon Clarke who went on to play with Springvale.
Front row 5th from left is Ricky Jackson who played for Melbourne.
Jeff Hogg is 3rd from the right in the top row and Justin Pickering is sitting to our left of the coach Doug Searl (who should have coached the senior side a la Pagan at North but that's another RFC stuff-up story ::) )
Bill Higgins in the suit in the front row would be familiar as the RFC 'doorman' to those who went into the old traditional Northern stand changerooms after games in the late 90s.

According to fullpointsfooty.net
Graham 'Polly' Farmer - At the end of the year (1955) he signed for Richmond, and actually crossed to Victoria in order to prepare for the 1956 season with the Tigers. However, East Perth refused to clear him, and he was forced to return home.
Neil Conlan (New Town/Glenorchy, Devonport, Manuka, Belconnen) - on a couple of occasions during the 1950s he was 'signed' by Richmond.
-
SEN the other day were talking about footballers from Manangatang and they mentioned a Richmond player called Gerrard Malone(y)?
Apparently he was on the front or back page of the Sun/Herald-Sun when we recruited him and they made him dress like a stereotypical country folk with a hat on his head and with straw in his mouth. He supposedly never played a senior game for us. Anyone remember this?
-
rhett could you check if there was a kid named warren hall .may have trained with or played under 19 back in the 70s not sure of the year sorry.not not even sure if he did .

Alex Gilmour

-
Alex Gilmour
worst top 20 pick than JON
About a draw I'd say.
The better talented player.
But worse head on his shoulders.
-
Gilmour had off field issues. Like JON should never have been taken at such a high pick. Even Miller admitted Gilmour was a speculative choice. Mind you it was a weak draft and most clubs had misses even in the top 10. Brisbane did best getting Adcock and Rischitelli and the Saints picked up Sam Fisher at 55. It says plenty about that draft that Zac Dawson and Ricky Dyson are the top 7 or so from the 2nd round onwards (excluding F/S). Tucky and Jacko would be in that group too.

The late Geoff McMonnies (Wayne Campbell's cousin) played ressies and U19s for Richmond in the mid-late 1970s. A sad story. He was killed in the Kerang train crash along with one of his daughters while another was severely and criticially injured :(.
Lost to us, the last full-back to use the drop kick
Martin Flanagan | November 14, 2009
GEOFF McMonnies was a remarkable ordinary man. His nickname was Spud. He was a farmer at Wemen, outside Robinvale on the Murray River, where he grew up. The house he built for his wife and four daughters on the block is cool and spacious and quietly modern. It's empty now.
Spud was killed in the Kerang train accident 2½ years ago. So was his third daughter, Rose, 17, while his fourth daughter, Sharise, 14, had her face broken in 22 places and her pelvis cleaved apart. ''Before the accident, I would have said we were a perfectly happy family,'' says Spud's wife Julie, an assistant principal at Robinvale High School. ''It's as if all our bad luck came at once.''
Spud, who was killed two weeks after his 50th birthday, was involved with the Robinvale Football Club from the ages of 16 to 38. He played in two senior premierships, 1974 (when he was 17) and 1979. In between, he played for Richmond under 19s and reserves. He finished his days in the Robinvale reserves. He played all over the ground, but is remembered as the last Robinvale full-back - and possibly the last full-back in Victoria - to use the drop kick when kicking in after a behind.
