Title: 9 gone how much will they be missed.
Post by: the claw on October 08, 2009, 11:42:45 PM
yep we have 9 gone bowden brown pettifer coughlan johnnson raines schulz jon pettifer and hughes thus far.

was sort of looking at their contributions for the yr and it dawned on me bowden aside the remainder played few games and in games they did play contributed little. it then dawned on me that these players will not be missed at all.

we will have richo and foley come back who missed big chunks of games as well.

we have a new player in farmer. nahas will be promoted from the rookie list.  we have picks 3 19 35 44 51 67 and psd pick 2. to this point that is what replaces the delisted players.
the trick for us i believe is to off load a player or players for a top 20 pick or  at the least  another pick in the top 30.

i also believe having given simmonds one more yr we need to of load pattison and take on a ruckman in his stead.

anyway  a lot of deadwood has gone that gave us little it aint all bad even though we will go close to the spoon next yr, those that have gone means younger players will continue to get game time and they will have another preseason behind them.
ya never know pick 3 and 19 may play some good footy our psd pick may give us something farmer may give us something we are going thru the right process at last. i only hope we dont cut the process of short.
no the delisting of the 9 mentioned is no great loss at all.

Brown, Gogs, Bowden and Johnson in their prime would have been missed, the others never reached anything that resembled a prime.

None will be missed now.

That's because the Claw listed Petticoat twice. However with the great news this morning that Patto will be moved on, we are now at 10 and hopefully still rising. There's enough dead wood around the place to build a massive bonfire.

After the year we have just endured.....none of our retired/delisted/traded players will be missed.

Lets face it, they have all contributed to an era that has seen Richmond become the joke of the competition.

Andrew Raines.....played 54 games for 18 wins.
Kayne pettifer....played 113 games for 41 wins.
Jay Schulz....played 71 games for 24 wins.
Kane Johnson played 116 games(at Richmond) for 39 wins
Nathan Brown played 82 games (at Richmond) for 28 wins
Mark Couglan played 92 games for 32 wins.
J. Oakley Nicholls...played 13 games for 5 wins.
Cleve Hughes...played 16 games for 7 wins.
Joel Bowden...1996-01 played 105 games for 57 wins.........2002-09 played 160 games for 53 wins.

Combined 822 games for 304 victories.Thats a winning ratio of 36%.

Doesn't that indicate we have got our recruiting on track, well our delisting at least!  Tick for Hardwick and Francis Jackson.
Now lets see what we get in the draft, if we get a 50% hit rate like Geelong then we will be OK.

If it is Patto and Putt doesn't that indicate we have a bad physical conditioning coach.  Both of these guys suffer from a lack of body mass.  Both talls, both mobile for talls which can be very useful.  Both underweight.  Sure genetics plays a part, but mass is also years of weight training.

For me it's lack of ability not mass

More likely Putt, and  one of Patto or Polak
Title: Re: 9 gone how much will they be missed.

I would give Putt one year as a rookie that's it. Certainly wouldn't keep him on the senior list. Because he has only been in the system 2 years I think a 3rd year is worth a punt but as a rookie.

Biggest problem with Putt that i saw when he played Coburg seniors was he was very to slow react when he didn't have the ball or when the ball was in dispute say 5-10 metres away from him.

When he is in the middle of a contest he plays and bases his decisions on instinct which alot of the time is very good but when he isn't directly in a contest he really struggles. And for me that was the part of his game that showed very little improvement in 2009

Interesting observation WP .The times i saw him play in the magoos,i noticed that he was more an observant rather than a participant of what was going on around him

If Patto is one of the 10 then I'm guessing the two others are Polak and Putt. I'm guessing in Putty's case it's a meesage to draftees that after two years you're still only a fringe Coburg player let alone a Richmond fringe player then it'll be bye-bye.
