Nah in all seriousness, I think our recruiters lost their way after pick 19. Dea is a basketballer who has hardly played, Nason is to small at 73kgs, Astbury was taken about 1 round to early, dont know what to say. We started so good as well.  :-\

Yeah, how dare we recruit blokes like Andy Collins. Just because they can bulk up and become great players.

With all due respect Andy Collins is showing potential he is no where near being a great player. Shane Edwards is a small he hasnt put on any weight, Robin Nahas the same, how many of these types of players do you need at a club seriously.

He does seem small, but at least he has been playing mature age footy, not just a small frame against immature bodies. looking at his footage he goes hard and has good skill.

He's a tiger now so hopefully he comes good

Don't underestimate the importance of playing in senior grades.  Daniel Rich anyone?  Webberley and Nason might just have snuck under the radar a tad...........but only time will tell.

2009 National Draft - Ben Nason

Ben Nason highlights: http://bigpondvideo.com/AFL/226079

DOB: 3/06/89
Height: 179.3cm
Weight: 73.0kg
Club: Central District, SANFL

What the recruiters say:
Ben is a running midfielder/ forward who played predominantly reserves football this year with the powerful Central District football club in the SANFL. Ben made the move to Centrals after the 2008 season from the Port Adelaide Magpies where he played his junior football in the U17’s and U’19’s. In the interest of furthering his career and seeking greater opportunity, Ben made the decision to move to Centrals.

In 2009 Ben played 19 reserves games kicking 29 goals playing as a forward/midfielder while appearing in the best players 7 times. He was able to break into the powerful league side in round 23 against Norwood where in limited game time amassed 10 possessions and kicked 1 goal. He was also included in the league side for the qualifying final against Sturt. Ben’s season finished with a 4 goal-3rd best performance in his reserves losing preliminary final side and was an emergency for the League Grand Final side a week later.

Ben is a well balanced player who is highly skilled by foot on both sides of his body. He is a smooth moving running player who will be a dangerous high half forward playing with excellent goal sense and also as a skilled deliverer of the ball inside forward 50. Ben’s defensive pressure also lifted to a new level in 2009 and many of his shots on goal were brought about by run downs of opposition defenders. Ben impressed at the SA State Screening day with his endurance running a 14.2 score on the beep test.

Ben has been assisted greatly by the strong culture of the Central District Football Club in taking his game to the next level in 2009. Centrals have an outstanding record of success in the SANFL winning 8 out of the last 10 League premierships.

Ben Nason in his own words:

What type of player are you?
I would like to think I'm recognised as a hard, gut-running medium forward/on-baller with good leg speed, great decision-making and the ability to use both sides of my body under pressure.

Which AFL player do you feel you resemble, and why?
Dale Thomas. As he is not the biggest build, but uses his run very well, works hard and is a good crumber up forward, that knows how to kick a goal.

What are your strengths as a footballer?
Leg speed, ability to read the game, clean taker of the football, good skills on both sides, good work ethic on the field and at training and forward-line pressure.

What parts of your game would you like to improve?
Self-confidence to take the game on and consistent four-quarter efforts.

Which AFL team do you support and how did you come to barrack for them?
Adelaide Crows. They were the one Adelaide team at the time and I just loved the way Andrew McLeod plays the game.

Who has been the biggest influence on your career so far, and why?
Not anyone individual. My involvement with the Central District Football Club has changed my enthusiasm and outlook on the game by giving me a chance to play at a senior level and also giving me the self-belief that I can take my game to the highest level.

20 year old kid playing well against men, changing clubs to the most successful in order to challenge himself, goal kicker who thrives and succeeds on defensive pressure.  And we took a 'risk' at pick #71.  Another Jackson stuff up obviously.

Not trying to be a smart-a Ramps but I am a bit gob-smacked by the speed with which some have written off the draftees.  There are a couple of usual suspects who you expect drivel and nonsense from but I was a bit surprised by your total rejection of those picks past Griffiths.  We appear to have done our best in choosing players from those available at the time for their strengths and attributes in relation to our list and I don't see where you could mount much of a case for any pick being disastrously wrong already.  Like you said - good luck to all the boys picked - I just appear to have more confidence in those picks than you and some others already have.

Nahas, Gilligan, Nason.  One of them young and already well on the way, one of them showing good improvement in his first year, one of them just drafted.  How many list spots should we hold for a small crumbing forward?  If he performs better than Nahas then we are doing ok for small crumbers surely?

I wish the boys all the best, in 12 months time we will see what has happened. My fundamental point is we couldnt afford to take risks in this draft and we did, we couldnt afford it. Our team finished 15th and the next drafts are compromised! What happens now? I cant see us moving forward like this.

Even Griffiths is a risk Ramps. Just had shoulder surgery and appears injury prone. The dice have been rolled and now its a waiting game

nah that statement is garbage

have you seen any footage? Astbury fills a need, 195cm strong mark, strong work ethic and a very nice kick of the footy. We neded to go tall again, looks a footballer.
Nason, exceptional footskills, hard at the contest, slick inside work, goalkicking midflder(not a fwd pocket).
Dea and webberley (sp) i know nothing about so wont comment, but to write them off just like that is a bit of a joke.

3) Martin was the expected selection
19) Griffiths was probably the right call and no complaints
35) I would have taken either McMillan, Kennedy or Vardy
44) I would have taken someone like Ryan Harwood
51) I think Astbury would have been available and I picked him in my phantom draft
67) Maybe Taylor would have made it through maybe not
72) Would have given a chance to one of the kids not taken like Grimes.

Im not afraid to put this up and Im sure you will bring it back. As I said smokey, I respect everyones opinion, its just that I have a different viewpoint that is all. Everyone has a right to an opinion. I wish all our players the best of luck. I hope they all make it.

Yep, good call Ramps.  No problem at all with an opposite opinion if it is backed up with sensible debate.  That's a good list and all jokes aside it would make a very interesting exercise in 12 months time to revisit.   :thumbsup  And like you said......now that they are Tigers, good luck to them all!   :gotigers

Nason ‘felt sick all day’ but is now a Tiger
26 Nov 09 @ 08:27pm by Reece Homfray

RICHMOND was the only club that bothered to speak with Central District livewire Ben Nason.

And the Tigers delivered by drafting him at Pick No.71 in tonight’s AFL Draft.

``It’s awesome, I don’t know what to think,’’ Nason said.

``I was watching it at a mate’s house in Paralowie because we don’t have Foxtel at home.’’

The 20-year-old, who played finals football with the Bulldogs this year, said he spoke with Richmond on Sunday, then the club phoned him this morning but they weren’t giving anything away.

``They rang me this morning and said all the best for tonight,’’ Nason said.

``I was at work and I felt sick all day.

``Then tonight I thought it was all over because it was really late, then I heard my name and couldn’t believe it.’’

Nason said he was ``heaps lucky’’ to be drafted at 20 years of age and he had Bulldogs coach Roy Laird to thank for it.

``I thank Roy for everything just giving me the opportunity.

``But this is only a foot in the door, now I`ve got to prove my point.’’

I can't see anything - Telstra Bigpond doesn't play too well with Linux and Firefox.  But, thank goodness for VM's!

He seems to be very clean by hand or foot and has no problems on his left.  Looks like he loves a tackle too.  Appears there is something to work with.

I think you're probably right, though with his hair I would say he takes a fair few "bad pics". Needs to go to TV's hairdresser.

I cant even get the bigpond video to play, yet some of the other draft profile video links do play for me. I run virtual box so i can boot up vista and watch big pond video if i really want to. bit of a pain but it is a work around.

well watched the footage & have to say l'm very impressed with it AL
Can see why he was drafted,  by his workrate to follow up the ball, how his reads the game always producing a second option to keep the ball flowing. & his aggressive approach. Lightening pace
thats natrual talent, you cannot teach that.  His skills & kicking are very good both sides.
Concern will be his weight. Could be another John Platten in the future. Will be interesting to see if he progresses.

I can't see anything - Telstra Bigpond doesn't play too well with Linux and Firefox.  But, thank goodness for VM's!

He seems to be very clean by hand or foot and has no problems on his left.  Looks like he loves a tackle too.  Appears there is something to work with.
I cant even get the bigpond video to play, yet some of the other draft profile video links do play for me. I run virtual box so i can boot up vista and watch big pond video if i really want to. bit of a pain but it is a work around.

l have no issue & l'm using Windows Vista Ultimate 64 bit

Smokey I watch Bogpond video through firefox without a problem. Not Linux though.

Besides the crazy hair, I actually think he plays a bit like Matt Priddis but with more leg speed. If he performs well he could become the clubs next cult figure. I don't think we've had one of those since Justin Plapp! or Maybe Marty McGrath  :lol

Sorry TM, slightly OT but I wouldn't wish Vista on my worst enemy.  I hate it as an operating system - it is a real pig.  And with Telstra so far up Microsoft's clacker there is little hope they will consider the small percentage of the population that choose not to be suckered into an overpriced, bloated, incestuous operating system.  /rant>

Yeah, it's a Bigpond thing tiga.  Every now and then one of their videos will work for me but generally they just sit there trying to load unsuccessfully.  Doesn't happen on any other sites so if I really need to watch something on Bigpond I use an XP image on VirtualBox.  Pee's me off having to do it but I have no choice - bloody Microsoft, bloody Telstra, bloody AFL.

What distro do you use smokey? I use a debian based distro (sidux) and have tried installing moonlight but all I get on bigpond video is a meassage to install silverlight. I refuse to try installing micro$oft's linux version of silverlight on my system

Latest Ubuntu (Karmic Koala - 64 bit) Al.  Still debian based but more 'main stream' I suppose.  Runs like a dream on my laptop and home pc (32 bit) but it has those issues with Bigpond so I find it easier just to have XP on a VM - goes against the grain but I need that for the software I am employed to work on anyway.

Sorry to hijack the thread guys.

Welcome Ben, looks the goods for mine, love his burst out speed, tackling, very very very accurate foot passes, for those of you that have been around a bit does Johnny Platten ring a bell and not just because of the hair. :thumbsup

For the most part he didnt seem overly quick but at about 1.40 into his highlights package he puts on a burst that seems impressive but its not fully tested because his opponents are not really interested in the chase. We have to wait and see. Kicking seems a feature but again 73kgs? If he gets to say 80kgs, does he retain his speed?

I don't think he needs to get to 80kgs Ramps.  He is the type of player who will be defensive by his energy levels and elusive by his size/speed.  Whether any of it is up to AFL standard is yet to be written to history but he doesn't really need the bulk, just the ability and intent.

Sh|t monk, that could be said about anyone, no matter what size. There's an old saying It's not the size of the dog in the fight, but size of the size of fight in the dog. I've seen big bloke get pushed around by smaller blokes simply through the way the different individuals go about it. Look at jhonny platten and even Liberatore (who i dont rate as a footballer but you could never question his endevour), blokes who were small but made up for it with other attributes.
I saw one of the Krakeaurs get bumped out the contest one day, only to bounce back up like a rubber man and straight back into it.
It's what inside that counts and some of the blokes at richmond get bumped/brushed aside moreso because of their mindset. Just watch the way they go about it and compare that to Nahas.

I'll go out on a limb and say that if this bloke doesnt make the grade, it will be because he is not good enough, not because of his body size. From the short clip he looks to have lots of endeavor and has very good hands in traffic. You don't develop that skill unless you spend a lot of time with the ball in that situation. Hardly what you'd expect from someone who constantly gets knocked out of the contest.

Nason was also mentioned by Inside Football pre-draft....

"Ben is an onballer/forward with good skills and footy awareness and has really come on this year. He was actually with the Port Magpies until last year and came across to us and has developed sensationally to the point where a couple of clubs have really taken notice." - Central District development manager Scott Stevens.

Just watched his video.  Very good kicking skills.  Most of them seemed low trajectory, so the ball got to the team-mate FAST.  Bullet handpasses, too.  I like it.

hello everyone!

this post may be pointless, but i find it worth sharing.

for Christmas i travelled to Adelaide. some friends from Adelaide took me to this Nightclub in Adelaide called "HQ" on Christmas Eve Eve (Wednesday Night) to Christmas Eve! lol!

it was about 4:30am when i noticed walking passed me a bloke with long blonde-dreadlocks.

i was very sure it was our own Ben Nason.

however, i started to search the whole area but i couldn't find this bloke.

we went onto the dancefloor to do whatever mates do when drinking (lol!) and i notice this bloke again!

in fact, the first time i saw him, i knew it was Ben Nason.

i looked at Ben, and i thought "bugger this, i am going to ask him if he is Ben Nason".

so i did.

i tapped him on the shoulder, he turned around and i said to him "Are you Ben Nason?"

he looked at me kind of weirdly, so i then added "You just got drafted to Richmond?"

and he started to smile.

at that time i thought i better explain how i knew who he was ...

i then said, "I am from Melbourne champ and i am a Richmond supporter!"

as soon as i said that, Ben then said "heyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyyy"

and gave me a massive hug! lol! on the dancefloor!

i said to Ben, "I wish you all the best with us and hope you make an impact"

Ben said "thanks thanks" so then i asked how is Dimma's training going?

Ben said that "Dimma is running us into the ground".

he then said something like, it has been hard and he is happy he has a couple of weeks back in Adelaide.

then i said again, goodluck Ben, wish you all the best and parted ways!

lol! just thought i would share my Dec 24th at 4:30am little chat with Ben Nason.

he was good enough to actually talk to me and i was laughing really at the fact as soon as i said "I'm a Richmond supporter"

he gave me the biggest hug you would see.

my mates at the time didn't know who he was and thought i found a mate from Melbourne in Adelaide!

lol! i know some people will not believe this story and i wish i took a picture with him, but i didn't, so please take my word, or ask Ben how was "HQ"

Christmas Eve Eve! lol!

just funny that at 4:30am Christmas Eve i spotted Ben Nason from a crowd well over 1,000!

those dreadlocks are easy to pinpoint!

i hope everybody had a great christmas and a great new years eve!

please be safe!

torch!

My sister works at Richmond and said that every time she rocks up to work at 8am with a Coffee she has seen Ben Nason either in the gym or running sprints on Punt Road. She thinks he lives either in the change rooms or in a caravan in the MCG Car Park as he is always training every single morning lol.

She said by far he looks like the hardest worker. Good on him, maybe making up for his lack of size with work ethic. Maybe another Nathan Foley?

All the best Benny

Watching the game live I would've thought Nason had more than 10 possies. Even so impressive for a first gamer who hasn't even seen the 'G before. Looked very comfortable at this level and showed up a number of his more experienced teammates for skills and especially footy brains.

I thought his work ethic showed on the field. He never stopped trying, always working hard to get into space and create options. Fitness and composure will come with time, but he looks a good pickup for where we got him in the draft.

Tiger cub Ben Nason burns bright
Reece Homfray
Herald Sun
May 07, 2010

THE emergence of young Richmond wingman Ben Nason has brought a spark to Punt Rd in a season where little has gone right.

At 20, Nason is the eldest of three housemates who represent what the Tigers are all about this season - young and exciting talent, but still very raw. The others are Dustin Martin and Jayden Post.

"Before the first game (coach Damien Hardwick) called me into his office and said, 'How do you think you'll go in front of 70,000 people?' I couldn't believe it was happening." Nason said.

"It was good that Dusty and I debuted at the same time because we live together and we were able to talk about it during the week. But when we ran out there, we couldn't even hear each other."

With his blond dreadlocks, slight build and lightning pace, it has been hard not to notice Nason, but the former Central Districts youngster did not expect to see AFL action so soon after being taken at pick No. 71 in last year's national draft.

But after putting on 4kg in the pre-season - thanks largely to his homemade pasta bake and Martin's specialty, fajitas - Nason was fast-tracked into the Richmond team.

He has averaged 13 possessions and kicked five goals in six games, but his progress wasn't without a scare. In his first NAB Cup game, against Hawthorn, Nason thought his year was over after he hyper-extended his right knee.

"I went into the changerooms and thought, 'Well that's it. I've stuffed up my whole season'," he said.

"I thought I did my ACL. It felt like someone had stabbed me in the side of the knee.

"I was really scared but had scans the next day and found out I'd just bruised the bone."

Nason missed a week but did enough to earn a spot in the Round 1 side and has held it since, although he has been forced to endure six consecutive losses for the first time.

On Sunday he returns to AAMI Stadium for the first time since supporters were overheard asking, "Who's that kid?" when he came into the Central Districts side and played SANFL finals.

Nason is determined not to return to Melbourne after the game against Adelaide with Richmond still winless.

"I've just got to improve how I play my role," Nason said.

"I've got to keep running and tackling. As soon as we get the ball, I've got to spread, then keep working back in."

Tiger growing in stature
EMMA QUAYLE
May 9, 2010

BEN Nason never expected to be drafted, never expected to overcome leg injuries in time for the pre-season games and never thought he would be lining up for Richmond in its first NAB Cup match. He never expected to be on the ground clutching an injured knee in the first term, wondering if his debut season was over before it had started.

"When they first took me down to the rooms, I was really upset," he said. "I didn't know what it felt like to do a knee, so I just felt pretty confused. I thought my year might be gone, there and then."

In the rooms, the doctors believed he had suffered only bone bruising, and they were proved right days later. After two weeks off, Nason got back in the side for the last two practice games, and on the Tuesday before Richmond's round-one game against Carlton, he was called into coach Damien Hardwick's office and asked if he'd like to run out on the MCG.

Since then, the 20-year-old has stayed in the team, improving and feeling more and more like he belongs. "It's just starting," he said, "to feel a bit more natural out there."

Nason knows what successful sides look like. This time last season, he was living at home in the Adelaide suburbs, working full-time with a fibreglass company and playing football for the Central District reserves. Having just crossed to the club, Nason couldn't imagine making the senior side, which had won eight of the last 10 SANFL premierships. He hadn't made the SA under-16 side, he hadn't been picked in its under-18 squad and, after growing up through the junior ranks at the Port Adelaide Magpies, he had been told at the end of 2008 that he was too small to ever play a senior game.

"I always thought I had no chance to play AFL, but I still didn't really give up," he said. "Whenever someone asked what I wanted to do, that's what I would say."

As soon as he was ditched by the Magpies, his new team called, and Nason was happy to go there, having grown up barracking for Centrals and adoring James and Chris Gowans, the team's tough twins. "I used to go and watch them play with my best mate since I was three," he said. "He used to love James Gowans, and I always had Chris' number on my jumper. When I got to the club, I felt a little bit star-struck."

Nason was given a role on the half-forward line, and started to feel like the team needed him. Then he made the South Australian under-20 team, and was told he may be destined for bigger things. "The senior coach sat me down and said, 'At the start of the year, I would never have considered you someone who could play, and now I feel like I could chuck you in any week if we need you'," said Nason, who played in the final round of the season and in the first final but has no idea why or how he improved. "I think it just felt good to feel like I was wanted."

The AFL clubs were next to get in touch, with Geelong, Port Adelaide and Fremantle sending letters before Richmond officials rang a week before the draft and then flew over. Nason felt nauseous during his interview - "I never sweat, and I couldn't stop sweating" - but by draft night he was less nervous, because he never thought he'd be picked.

While his dad listened to the draft on radio at work and his mum followed it on the internet, he watched it on TV at a mate's place. "They were doing an interview on screen when my name was called out, and it was so faint, but I was convinced that I heard it," he said. "It came up on the screen after that, and within 15 minutes I was home and there were all these people outside my house waiting. It still gives me goose bumps now, to think back on it."

Nason didn't expect to play in Richmond's first six games, but he doesn't want to stop now. "I'm getting more used to the structures and knowing what the other players are going to do," he said. "It's a massive step up, but it just feels right. I feel like I'm supposed to be there, in a way. Not winning isn't too good, but that will come. I know we'll win soon. We'll get there."

All we need from Nason is to be a solid player, with reliable skills who is a regular in the 22.

From what i've seen of him, he seems to have grasped the gameplan straight away.

Thats what I was thinking tony. I dont think I've heard any one say he is a champ or a star, or even a future champ or star.

He's done all, if not more than, you could realistically expect from a late draft pick so far.

Love this kid. He's playing like a third year player 8 games in. Actually you feel pretty confident when he has the ball, if he can just cut out the loopy 20 yard kicks we'll be right.

Couldn't care less how he's rated.

He does the 1% and plays to the game plan and as a pick 70 has been a steal.

:thumbsup  Spot on Pope.  Funny how the tosspots having a crack at us in the media mention how we should have looked to the 2nd Division comps for some recruits a la Silvagni, Barlow, Podsiadly etc.  Thing is we did last year and got good service from Nahas, and then this year from Nason and now possibly Webberley.  Won't matter what we do - to the weak pricks in the media we are an easy cheap shot for those that haven't got the knowledge, intelligence and work ethic to research their stories before gobbing off in print.

That's 8 games of footy and each game has had a number of positives in them.

WIll be an unsung hero in a very good side assuming we get to be one circa 2013-14 with his name being selected first on the teamsheet due to his continual effort and 1 percenters.

Does the things coaches love and hence will be a coaches favourite because of it and with the dreadlocks will develop cult status at the club.

Ben Nason mirrors Richmond's new breed who like its wicked song
Malcolm Conn
The Australian
June 04, 2010

A DAY after flying from Adelaide to celebrate his 21st birthday, Ben Nason's family will have prime seats under the Etihad Stadium roof tonight to watch the Richmond midfielder continue his impressive debut season against St Kilda.

It has been a big week for Nason and his family. Last Saturday they turned up to Adelaide's AAMI Stadium en masse to watch the former local boy in action as Richmond won its first game for the season, against Port Adelaide, in atrocious conditions.

With his flowing blond dreadlocks, Nason was a beacon in the gloom, a metaphor perhaps for the young players at Richmond who are rebuilding a gutted club from the ground up.

"It was the best, playing at home (in Adelaide) with all my friends and family there. I've always hated Port Power," he said, continuing the rivalry of a former Adelaide Crows supporter.

Nason was one of a number of Richmond players who got to sing the club's famous victory song for the first time as it rung out with gusto after nine consecutive losses.

"I knew the words," he laughed. "I've always known the words to the Richmond song. I always thought it was the best song in the AFL. It's a wicked song. It was great to hear."

After a terrible start, Richmond has been competitive over the past month and should have beaten Hawthorn a fortnight ago, losing by three points, but tonight against St Kilda will be a difficult step up in class.

Such was the competition in that Hawthorn game Hawks captain Sam Mitchell was fined $900 for pulling Nason's extravagant hair during a wrestle.

"I couldn't believe he grabbed it," Nason said. "I was so angry. He only pulled it because, you can't see it in the vision, but when we were setting up our zone he was running in front of me and I dropped him when he wasn't watching so he got up and pulled my hair."

As part of Richmond's new breed, Nason has played every game this season, when he did not think he would play a senior game at all in 2010 after being drafted a lowly 71 last year.

Rewind a year and Nason was an obscure reserves player in the SANFL who had already been rejected by one local club and completely ignored by AFL teams.

Nason's break came when he was one of the best for an under-20s team which played a practice match against the South Australian under-18s before they went off to the national carnival he never had the chance to play in.

A few letters arrived from AFL clubs and Richmond spoke to Nason four days before last year's draft, but he still didn't believe he would be picked.

"I wasn't confident at all. I went to a mate's place to watch it because I didn't think I would get drafted," Nason said. "They got to about pick 67 and teams were already passing.

"There was an interview on the TV and you could faintly hear the names in the background and they were popping up on the bottom of the screen.

"When mine was called I could hear it as clear as anything and I said to my mate, 'they called my name'. He said, 'no they didn't'.

"I was trying to convince him and my name came up on the bottom of the screen. I couldn't believe it. My mate gave me a hug and everyone was calling me. Mum couldn't get through.

"I went straight home and mum was crying."

She'll be sitting proudly in the plush seats tonight.

                                                   Richmond goal kickers 2010

1. Jack Riewoldt  45
2. Ben Nason   12
3.Robin Nahas   10

Ben Nason has been a super selection for pick 71.

Don't want to see him bulk up too much. Players like Nason rely on avoiding/slipping tackles, not busting them.
Too much bulk and he will loose speed, agility and stamina.

I think we also have to remember that Nason did not have a full pre-season and we do tend to forget that when we have players that a underdone.

I would like to wait and see how he goes next after a good pre-season including a heavy gym program.

Nason is a rag doll. Gets tackled knocked to the ground and manhandled.
Yep he puts his head over the ball but you have t get it more than average 10 times a game also.
Grigg did have 30 touches but the fumbling and sloppiness just kills you.
I see it this way Grigg's 30 touches are akin to an average size turd in a field with 5 flies on it as opposed to Nahas who had less touches but his were akin to a bigger turd in a field with 3 flies on it.
In any event there are heaps of turds in the fields all shapes sizes and colour with flies on them right now.
All represent the RFC as a whole.

No he is not! Nason has a real dip for his size! We played against a bunch of kids today and Nason would should have shown many of them up!
"Nason has a real dip for his size"
Says it all- this is the AFL not the under 10's.
Although would still get knocked over playing with the under 10"s.  :lol

Can someone tell me why this guy isnt getting a game in the seniors? Hasn't he been good for Coburg? Surely can't be no worse than some of the "players" currently on the team
SIMPLE! HE IS poo
EVEN THE COMMENTATOR LAUGHED TODAY HOW LIGHT HE IS!
WOULD RATHER PLAY ONE SHORT THAN GIVE THAT LITTLE TWERP A GAME.
AND SACK WHOEVER DRAFTED HIM

I'd rather have Nason out there putting his head ove rthe pill than Grigg who continues to skirt around the edges and pull out of contests

id rather a combination of both it would only amount to a reasonably well rounded or average  player but hey we dont have many of them.

All represent the RFC as a whole.
ha nice analogy. i may borrow it at some stage.

Ridiculous post..

Grigg was good today

You reckon Grigg was good today? God Help Us thats all I can say.  :banghead

32 possessions, 9 marks, 2 tackles. And kicked a goal with his only shot on goal for the day, compare that to our 18 odd behinds plus ran all day.

I'd consider that a pass for a guy who is playing his 17th game for the side.

Just wondering what more you'd like the boy to do?

Compare that to our blood nut tagger who couldn't keep quiet Ablett on one leg. 15+ blokes were worse than Grigg today. Easily in our top 5.

For a  bloke who got the footy 32 times he was majorly ineffective and disappointing. The games not about possessions, especially if theyre going backwards and sideways and putting other blokes under pressure or just kicking to a contest. Poor performance for mine today. Hes been very average since the start of the year, played 4 or 5 good games and average since.

BT once again we agree. i dont care how crap we played today but playing nason is just the same as playing any of our 12 duds who played today. We have a disgraceful list

How or more to the point in their right mind could we draft this 55kg lightweight is quite comical.

we have a very sad future if the likes of him, Gus and Connors are waiting at Coburg.

Will be a good state league player though AFL unfortunately is a bit of a stretch, All the best Benny.

I didn't think Nahas developed his physique he developed a greater understanding of the game plan and a much greater work rate to add to his footy smarts.
Sadly for Nason he has a good work ethic but he is not smart enough to regularly get the foty and evade tackles and hence he gets rag dolled.
Good luck to the kid anyway.

Good point bout the game plan but Nahas was exactly the same early on and was constantly bashed up when he went near the ball.  He has developed some good smarts and I think Nason is also capable.  Nahas is always going to be a wirey bloke but he will still get stronger.  Nason could fill out considerably still.  Seen blokes like him fill out late.  He looked quite soft when we got him.  Good development and he should be hard as a coffin nail.

The Bulldogs are however hopeful of young wingman Ben Nason returning to Elizabeth after he was delisted by Richmond this week.

Nason played 23 games in the past two seasons at Tigerland and Grant is confident he will be at Central District if not re-drafted for next season.

Ben Nason craves more action

    by: Zac Milbank
    From: The Advertiser
    November 16, 2011

YOU can detect the desperation in Ben Nason's voice. "I would do anything to get another opportunity somewhere else - a rookie spot or anything," Nason said.

Ruthlessly discarded by Richmond despite playing 19 games in his first AFL season in 2010, Nason has been putting all of his energy into maintaining his fitness since being delivered a dreaded phone call from Tigers coach Damien Hardwick.

"I have been hitting the weights to put some weight back on," said Nason, who managed just four AFL matches this year.

"I go running with my mates and have been doing some time-trials by myself, which isn't much fun but you've just got to do it."

A surprise selection by the Tigers at No. 71 in 2009, Nason burst on to the AFL scene with his trademark dreadlocks quickly earning him cult status at Tigerland.

But the honeymoon period came crashing to a halt for the clean-skilled small forward, who struggled for selection ahead of fellow Tiger goalsneaks Robbie Nahas and Jake King in 2011.

"It's been pretty disappointing," said Nason, a neat kick on either foot.

"It came as a little bit of a shock to me and it hit me pretty hard.

"You never know what is going to happen, it was just a harsh reality that football is just a business.

"If you're not in their (club's) mould then it can be all over for you."

Once Nason's AFL world came crashing down, it became a burden to talk to his friends about his sudden exit from elite level.

"It was a bit tough because I was almost embarrassed to tell people," said Nason, who will almost certainly play in the SANFL with Central District if overlooked in the national and rookie drafts.

"They would be asking me when I was going back to Melbourne but I would tell them I'm not going back."

But if Nason gets his way, a journey to Victoria or Western Australia - where West Coast is understood to have an interest - beckons.

"I've played 23 games so I know how tough the game is now and what your elite fitness has to be," said Nason.

"And I reckon my professionalism in terms of eating and recovery is a lot better. You need to get yourself up to play each week."
