Title: Who is under the pump to perform in 2010?
Post by: one-eyed on December 03, 2009, 07:55:00 AM
Okay there's some obvious names but this thread is also interested in the not-so-obvious ones as well.

As the thread title says -  who is under the pump and needs to perform in 2010 to survive beyond next year?

The whole team?

But if I must choose I would think these players are at risk of a career-ending season:

The obvious - McMahon, Simmonds, Tuck, Edwards, Hislop, Thomson, Connors, King.

The possibles - Polo*, White*, Gourdis, Gilligan, Graham, Thursfield*, Rance*, Moore*, Foley*.

* - as possible trade bait rather than career-ending.

Edit: - forgot King.

Trent Cotchin...
He really needs his body to be 100% at some stage this season, and hopefully rip a game apart!

Angus Graham. A few good games do not make a season.

McMahon would need a Brownlow to stay on the list, but if he did win a brownlow i'd trade him to GC17 for a top ten pick.  :rollin

I wouldnt say he is under the pump, he will be on the list in 2011 even if he dosent play a game next season.

I'd say McMahon, Tuck, King, Connors, Hislop, Thomson

But the first 3 will most likely be gone even if they play all games.

Francis Jackson
Will need a few of his picks from the last 3 or 4 drafts to come on!!!!
Just like any other person at Richmond he needs to show he has worth.
I'm a little sceptical but happy to be wrong on him.

Lets face it....most of our players are under the pump.

Especially those in the 40-70 game category.

No point naming names....we all know who they are.

I agree, but it doesn't help when picks are traded for duds. Giving your recruiter 3 picks in a draft ('05, '07 and '08) doesn't leave much margin for error.

The '05 crop have all been delisted (Jackson only had a little input into that draft anyway), Putt has already gone from '07 and Hislop is under the pump from '08. 9 players picked in three drafts by a team not even close to challenging and only 5 are left.

I think players like Edwards, Polo, McMahon, Thursfield, Connors, Hislop, Thompson, King and maybe a couple of the other fringe dwelling players need to lift next year and contribute a lot more than last year and the previous year.

Other players like Tuck, McGuane, Moore, Morton, Newman, Graham, Rance and White have to realise that 100% dedication in games is what is needed from them. These players have to lift and lift the other players around them. Failure from this group I have mentioned will make any of them tradeable next year IMO.

Players like Collins, Post, Nahas, Farmer, Gourdis (if given the chance) and Polak will need to at least show something and take the next step. Nahas can't rely on a handful of good games like this year, he needs to go out and put his stamp on games. Post knows what needs to be done at the elite level as does Farmer and Collins so they have to have an impact next year as well.

Polak.... no need to explain, simply needs to return his form of the year we recruited him or commensence should prevail and he should retire.

I totally agree with you Wayne, BUT if i was employed to do a job that i alone would be judged on i would make sure we didn't trade away picks for duds. I would be asked to leave before i would let my rep be compromised.
Maybe FJ should have been stronger than he has been, and that i do blame on him.
We need people at our club who want to stand up and fight for what they believe and for what they are paid to do.
As i said earlier, i am happy to be wrong on him

Missed yesterday's report did we Jack?!  :wallywink

Simmo will retire at the end of next year and Jordie only survived this year due to his contract. Of the rest under the pump - Polo, Connors, Tucky, Gus, Kingy, Hislop, Thomson and Whitey will be first in line for Mr Broom if they don't show something significantly better than what we've seen from them already. Players 23 y.o. and older need to have a cemented place in our 22 otherwise they'll be gone. Polak, Gourdis and Gilligan as rookies would also be under the pump.
