Does anyone know who we play next ???
-
I hope the game is in Victoria
-
Ourselves
-
Hardwick said we will be resting a number of players. Lids won't be playing in the next practice match.
-
What I know so far ......
Adelaide vs Melbourne at Elizabeth
Brisbane vs Geelong at Southport
North to play in Ballarat if they lose today.
Carlton to play in Joondalup (WA) against a WA side (it'll be definitely West Coast if Freo wins today).
Sydney to play at Blacktown again.
Week 2 – March 5-6
Friday - Matches to be played in Southport(QLD) and Visy Park(VIC).
Saturday - Match to be played in Elizabeth(SA), Joondalup(WA), North Ballarat(VIC).
Dates to be confirmed - Match at one other venue location (Blacktown in Sydney).
--------------------------------------
So it looks like we'll be playing at either Princes Park, North Ballarat or Blacktown.
Likely opponent out of Collingwood, Essendon, Melbourne, Sydney, or the loser of North/Freo
-
after gettin toweled up twice Geelong are off to play in the Tora Bora mountains
-
I believe we are most likely playing in Melb in the next round of the practice match NAB challenge thingee
;D ;) ;D ;D ;D
-
North vs Collingwood in Ballarat
So we're playing at Princes Park probably against either Essendon or Melbourne
-
Hope it's Essendon.
-
If it's against Melbourne then Martin and Trengove may go head to head.
-
I'm guessing it's Melbourne, I don't think the AFL will want the Swans playing Melbourne in Blacktown. Essendon will provide a bigger crowd.
-
If it's against Melbourne then Martin and Trengove may go head to head.
Martin probably deserves a better tag than that, at this point anyway.

we'll be resting quite a few players this week and I believe(from what pies supporter mate told me) that the pies had quite a few ommissions last week so should have quite a strong lineup against us.
I'm glad we're playing against these sides straight up, no false pretences of having the gameplan work against spuds like melbourne and then getting a rude wake up call in the season proper.
-
Thats the way I see it too. After last week to come out against melbourne and have an easy win would be pointless. If we struggled or got beaten the whining would be like a 747 revving up. Better to front up against a hard disiplined side to get a better idea of where we are at.
-
good!
playing another Top 4 team from last year and will probably be there again this season!
i think we should rest Cotchin as well!
from the reports i have read, he sounds like he needs a good rest!
:)

Agree TM. The Blues will seem a sinch after this preseason ;D.
I've heard the same thing TM about the Pies resting names seeing that swimming pool they played last week in Alice and will bring them back this week. It won't be pretty in that case unless there's a huge surprise effort from our new cubs. I wonder if the media will have "undermanned" in every article about us like they did for Geelong or just bag us for losing while pumping up the Pies flag hopes ::).
I'm guessing Lids, Blingers, Jack, Newy and Moore will be rested based on what Hardwick said. They've played in the first two preseason games, have the match fitness, and we know what they can do.
-
Rain and thunderstorms on Friday apparently.

Will be interesting to see who stands up out of that lot. Average games must be WAAAY down this week.
Of course the media will give us credit for the amount of experience missing from our team if we get flogged. :rollin

Alroy Gilligan? ??? ??? ???

Incidentally, I know I said on another thread that I'd be there tomorrow with bells on. But looking at that squad, in all probability we are going to be smashed by a near full-strength Maggot-Pie line-up. I know it's only a practice match, but I wish we'd gone in with a stronger team, then given the senior players the week off leading into Rd.1 :(

if we can lose by less than 5 or 6 goals, and someone like Post, Collins, Dea plays really well then it is not too bad.

Most clubs play close to their round 1 side in the last practice match as a warm up. So expect close to our best side the following weekend.

....If losing to Collingwood can ever be considered not too bad. Sorry, I just HATE 'em that's all.
I know what you're saying though, even if that looks like a pretty big "IF". Like everybody, I'm just going tomorrow to get a look at the kids.

Yeah, but by then we'll probably be playing North or Brissie, or some other side I couldn't give a toss about.....
When it comes to the Pies, I'd want to go all out to beat them at tiddly-winks.

Yeah there isn't much to like about that bloke. Since Tom Harley led Geelong to a flag its been the "make your unassuming backman the captain" era. It's as if they're using the Quarterback model, but i think it comes off as sterile.
But yeah first year players beware of Maxwell's attempts to inspire, not with his talent mind you, with his ability to pick off kids.

Hey guys,
I was looking to go down this afternoon but the weather is looking a bit bleak. I haven't been down to Princess Park for quite sometime. Just wondering if there is any undercover area for protection from the rain?
Cheers

The Heatley stand is no more (replaced by Carlton's new training facility which goes all the way to the fence) so the best bet I guess Ball is undercover in the Legends stand at the other end of the ground.

Game being played in Collingwood's half and Wellingham just misses from 45 out.
Troy Taylor kicks inside 50 and has too much juice on it and ball goes over.
Rare Richmond inside 50.
Reid saves another Morton goal as it is rushed behind.
-
Will try and get a summary from MT at half time
-
C,mon, this is the score line we expected out of this game didn't we??? A lot of the players in this group would be fighting for a spot come round one, if we are, or the same players are turning the ball over then they shouldn't expect to be considered round one.
-
Yes always going to happen , i always thought we would do well to lose by under 10 goals...
-
From MT at the game - read it and weep
No one at the fall of the ball. When we’re kickig to team mate or it’s miskick, the pies take advantage.
When we’re coming out of defence we’re stagnant. No-one running and spreading as they go up the field.
According to MT Farmer not doing much.
Best for us – Jackson who’s winning the ball.
Concin hasn’t been bad. Can win the ball.
Ball was in our forward line about 4 times
Going short in defence = chip kicks becaue we can’t hit a long target.
Pies dominating midfield – even when they get a tackled the get the ball free and go forward. We’re just under pressure all the time and we just stuff up whereas they are clearing
Morton is presenting and our best forward.
Rance up fwd having a shocker
Polo and McGuane – doing okay, but as soon as we get it don’t have the foot skills. White struggling.
King – had two guys leading HFF and he kicks out on the full
Simmo doing allright in the ruck contesting. Gus doesn’t have a clue what he’s doing
Thursty and McGuane are defending okay fisting the ball, but not their foot skills
McMahon – typical game – one good play where on the wing he had a good second and third effort, but other than that, not much.
Tuck – Wellington is killing him
Post – playing CHB – hasn’t done much. A couple of nice things but nothing to write home about
Dea – didn’t see him much in the second qtr but was okay in first
Webberley – shocker
Hicks – got ball 3 or 4 times and stuffed up each time.
Roberts – okay in first qtr playing off HBF – played HF 2nd hasn’t got a touch but ball hasn’t been there.
Nason – so-so
-
On the maggots board when asked how we're playing:
Struggling to connect to targets. Start the run from their defensive 50 but get lost and turn it over. Some of the young boys have showed their intent but they need some game breakers.

Browne and Vickery playing now
-
Morton mocks the umpire and is paid a 50 against to Goldsack.
White does well for Richmond and kicks inside 50 to Morton who gets another free kick against.
Troy Taylor has a long shot at goal but misses everything. Pies clear from defence
Pies go inside 50, but Matthew White rebounds for Richmond

Hardly surprising when most, if not all, our runners are sitting out this game. This is a true "seconds" team, full of kids and our second/third string on-ballers. What other result could we expect??

From MT:
The whole qtr was us kicking to their ruckman from full back and they kept on doing it – a comedy MT reckons.
Third qtr was good – got some run on thru midfield. Browne came on and started dominating from the centre bounces. And when we were coming out of centre, kicking longer and using hb to advantage. That’s why we got back into the game.
Impressed with Contin.
Senior players contributed in third (that was decent of them lol) – started running hard etc. but last qtr just went back to playing crap.
Vickery is well past Graham. Played him fwd in third qtr
Taylor did a couple of good things – got front and square a few times and that was good.
MT struggling to find positives – was pleased with Contin.
Jordy hopeless lol
Goals – Morton 4, King 2, Vickery, Polo, Roberts
Best players overall – Jackson, Contin, Morton, King (tried but not up to it), Thursty, McGuane, Farmer

Just got back from game
Plenty of upside.
Really liked Browne in the ruck, bye bye to Graham , he was hopeless in the first half and didnt play the second.
Interesting that Simmonds was screaming out to Graham from the bench to move down the ground and Grahman just stood stationary.
Browne actually beat Jolley and Fraser in the ruck
Best players were Morton by a mile, liked Kings game up forward, Thursfield was excellent in defense.
Jackson was fairly good in the middle.
Tuck will have to play round 1 for what I seen today
Farmer as well
I liked Taylor although got a bit to learn.
Cant understand why Hicks was rookied as he should be riding at Flemington tomorrow, aint going to make it.
Downside, Rance :chuck :chuck Complete Rubbish, played up forward , went for marks and missed the ball in some instances by a good metre
White and McMahon are a disgrace.
-
Good to see Contin went ok and Morton was amongst it again, also good to see Vickery played well.

I posted after the practice game at Carrara last year that Browne had already gone past Graham in development. I didn't see anything from Graham for the rest of 2009 that caused me to rethink, although I only saw Browne once more for a very brief time in round 1. It would appear from Jack's observations that my opinion is still close to the mark. Play him again next week Tigers and let him spend 2010 learning in the seniors - he can't possibly be any worse than Graham.
-
Jack, could you elaborate on mcmahon please?
Easy, he aint up to it.
Interesting the the 3rd quarter he got a bit frustrated and started slinging guys to the ground after they had disposed of it.
He is way too loose to play in D50.
You cant play unaccountable football when your a bottom side

You watch Graham and he just follows the opposition Ruckman around as he hasnt got the footy smarts, never will
-
I went too. In the last quarter, McMahon took almost ALL of the kickouts (and there were a LOT of kickouts). He turned it over EVERY TIME except for 1, where it went out of bounds. He is a pathetic excuse for a footballer. Webberly disappointed me. Contin impressed me, as did Browne, Thursfield and Farmer. Post can actually take a mark. HAVE HIM AT THE 50 WHEN TAKING KICKOUTS.
Anything else, just ask.

well White an McMahon are a disgrace.
Gotta laugh at your "'pin up"" boy WP.
Gus or Goose as he is known at Punt Road, which I might say is a more appropreate Nickname, was huffing and puffing when walking around the boundary after been interchanged, I dont know why, he was stat less once again. ::) :'(

Polak, just went.
Would be playing Farmer no doubt round 1.
Martin who didnt play would be the other new player I would think.
Taylor ?, Round 1 might be too soon you would think
-
Is it as good as this match day in the season proper?? :lol
sheesh i hope so .
-
Roberts played well and morton kicked a great goal from the boundary, but the rest of the team looked sloppy with very poor foot skills and decision making by most players. The first box to tick for our recruiters must be 1. can you kick straight 2. are you reasonably intelligent and/or footy smart and 3.do you weigh over 55kgs and have you ever won a fight.
McMahon always kicks backwards or passes to players under pressure, hopeless. White should think about trying to kick a football straight one time at training instead of running 400's, might be a revolutionary idea. There were few other positives I could see.
-
White and McMahon are a disgrace.
Damien Hardwick and his selection committee know who the disgrace is and it is not these players who were picked in the best players. Even though it was just a practice match, they must have carried out the coaches instructions or more.
It is becoming more and more obvious just how little you know about football and especially the positive things happening at Tigerland.
YOU and your back-stabbing nay-sayers are THE DISGRACE that is making our proud club the laughing stock, not any single player busting his guts for the Richmond Football Club. They all have more football talent and personal integrity than you have in your little finger's finger-nail.
You need to get over the fact that you were never good enough to be ONE OF YOUR SO-CALLED DUDS at an AFL football club, yet alone a good player at Tigerland and leave REAL SUPPORTERS to stuggle through the hard times until the good times arrive again. Your jealousy of talented footballers is blatantly obvious.
When the good times arrive lots of us will happily RAM IT DOWN YOUR FLAMIN THROAT.
Now get back to that gutter you came from.

Roberts look like he can play. moves well, dont think he is ready for round 1 action though.
Still needs to look at what he does when we havent got the ball eg where to run etc.
-
Ekto,
Your attack on Jack is unjustified today.
your a complete fool! If you think McMahon, Rance and White were ok today you need to stop smoking weed. The rest of the spectators at the ground today were laughing about how horrible they were.
They were a disgrace!
-
McMahon, White, King. Rance shouldnt be at Richmond in 2011. Its unfortunate, but no team can win a flag with this level of player. They are honorable troops, but theyre not Premiership player material in my opinion. I will wish them all the best wherever they end up in 2011.

Very colourful. Sorry I have to defend Jack here, I didn't see the game and anyone who didn't wants to know what happened. If they were bad (disgraceful) then thats what they were. Not the end of the world hearing that one or two players were pathetic. Unless you barrack for Geelong, you'll have more than one disgraceful performing player in your footy side each week.
McMahon cant complain about lack of chances for a guy with big coin above his head and one of the more senior guys on the list, if he doesn't play consistent senior footy his career could be over by round 15.
-
Hey Etko, actually been employed at 3 clubs, LOL ;)
-

Neither.
But at least I stayed at school long enough to learn English properly.
I am not surprised that football is just another thing that you know nothing about.

Surely he has some upside with some developing left, is it too early to write him off? I'm not a Rance lover but a little uncomfortable saying he should be dumped after 3-4 years in the system.
-
Hey Etko, actually been employed at 3 clubs, LOL ;)
Yeah, as the toilet cleaner?
And please get my name right.
-
Ekto,
Your attack on Jack is unjustified today.
your a complete fool! If you think McMahon, Rance and White were ok today you need to stop smoking weed. The rest of the spectators at the ground today were laughing about how horrible they were.
They were a disgrace!
I actually felt sorry for both Rance and White, they were horrible. If thats the best they can produce after a solid pre season, they will be at coburg for the year.
Rance has little idea. Hardwick tried to re invent him today trying him up forward, he went of marks and missed the ball twice in 5 mins, not up to it.
White likewise , and we all know about McMahon.
Can someone tell me how many times he kicked the ball backwards????

Who do I trust?
The coaching group who select the best players or morons like you that constantly knock the same players.
I wasn't at the game but have read your posts that are in total opposition to what the coaching staff have said after the game.

Got a text from a mate at the game - Cloke is poo - please confirm :rollin

To answer your question, yes he is that bad.
Should have taken what we were offered by Carlton pre-season for him. A couple of steamed dim sims probably would have been fair! :lol
-
We should be able to offload him to West Coast or the Gold Goast in trade week.

Then don't comment. White had a good 3rd quarter, but that was it. I was disappointed with Webberly, but am willing to give him more chances. Collins showed that he can play, but still turned it over a bit. Tuck was pretty solid all game. McMahon was pitiful. I would have had Jackson, Thursfield, Morton and Contin in the bests rather than Collins, White, Webberly and McMahon.
-
I went as well today.
Here's the rough line-up in each half .....
First Quarter
B: Farmer McGuane Thursty
HB: Roberts Post King
C: Contin Jackson White
HF: Taylor Rance Hicks
F: Polo Polak Morton
R: Simmonds Tuck Collins
Int: Graham, Nason, Webberley, Dea, Grimes, McMahon
Second quarter
B: Polo McGuane Thursty
HB: King Post Farmer
C: Contin Jackson White
HF: Taylor Rance Nason
F: Roberts Polak Morton
R: Simmonds Tuck Collins
Int: Graham, Hicks, Webberley, Dea, Grimes, McMahon
Second half
On: Browne, Vickery
Off: Graham, Polak
B: Polo McGuane Thursty
HB: McMahon Post Farmer
C: Collins Jackson White
HF: Taylor Rance Roberts
F: King Vickery Morton
R: Simmonds Tuck Contin
Int: Browne, Hicks, Webberley, Dea, Grimes, Nason
The first 15 minutes of the first quarter and the 3rd quarter is when we had more than our fair share of the play. Apart from that it was all Collingwood with the ball barely crossing the centreline as we couldn't get it out of our backline without giving it straight back to the Pies.
Our backline defensively did fairly well spoiling incoming Pie forays but in those periods we couldn't get it out of our backline we fell back into bad old habits of being stagnant through the midfield offering no leads to kick to which forced our defenders to chip short, wide and backwards in the defensive 50 trying to maintain possession crabbing along the boundary.
Our forward line is very makeshift especially with Jack out of the side. Vickery gave us some tall target to kick to when he came on but are really missing genuine tall forwards while waiting for the likes of Griffiths and Astbury to come on and mature in a few years time.
Midfield really suffered with our classier players missing today. Jacko the only senior player to lead the way and win the ball over 4 quarters. Contin clearly the best of the youngsters.

Wouldnt have even got Dim Sims.

What was dissapointing about webberley? Was it a bad day, or does he look like he's off he pace? Tassie league is miles behind and gives you a lot more time with the ball. I was also concerned with his defnsive side(mcmahon mkII), how does this look?
Contins footskills and poise?
King in the backline??
Grimes?
How does Brwne move? trimmed some puppy fat?
cheers

Firstly , I aint a moron.
Secondly you should believe me for reasons I wont explain.
My opinions are unbaised.
As for knocking players, the players I do knock have life long problems with there game that no club will be able to cure.
Take Angus Graham for instance, how on earth did he get on an AFL list is beyond belief.
When did he last take a mark in a game ??? At least Browne got an opportunity in the 2nd half and had a crack, beat Jolley in every centre bounce in the 3rd quarter.
And I seen a rookie there today in Hicks, the kids tries, but why on earth would the club rookie him ????
Maybe the club are training racehorses on the side and the kid is earmarked to become the stable jockey :lol ::)

Thought Brown was good, better option than Graham,
Do you play in round 1 ??? Played round 1 last year and that was it.
Would think his immediate future lies in the next 2 weeks, if he keeps on improving, you have to play him.
King, I thought he played well.
Like him up forward, reason being we dont get hurt as much if he turns the balll over.LOL
One thing I will say,
I would play TUCK inside F50.
NOT POLAK

EKTO shutup your making a real fool of yourself :shh ;D
Now Jackstar after reading all that Hows our mate McMahon going ;D :rollin
& what horse is Hicks riding ;D
-
ok, questions form "torch". :P
Collingwood kicked 13 behinds in the final quarter and still won that quarter!
that tells me that our forward line is of need of a tall power forward.
watching Western tonight, last two quarters, Barry Hall is massive for them.
tonights match for him, was very good.
we need a more tall forwards.
on the afl website:
Jack Anthony, Anthony Corrie and John McCarthy each booted two goals for the Pies, while Mitch Morton slotted four goals for Richmond. Magpies Sharrod Wellingham, McCarthy and Luke Ball all found plenty of the footy while Andrew Collins, Matthew White and Jeromey Webberley were among Richmond’s best.
on here, Collins, White, Webberley, were horrible?
actually, Collins somebody said he was good.
i am actually disappointed with Graham Polak.
he would of played Full Forward, and for him not to kick a goal is very horrible.
i read, "our midfield not leading up for the defenders"! that is lazy typical Richmond.
Tuck 33 touches, same Tuck, my question on him, who played against him and did that player dominate?
i think Tuck is defensively hopeless!
White 30 touches - did he play on ball?
reading some posts, he turned the football over a lot?
McMahon - i think this guy is having fun earning "x" amount.
if he is that horrible, i think he doesn't care!
i would put him on the half-forward line!
how was Polo and where did he play?
Post is a forward! not a defender! simple as that!
we are wasting him down back!
Hardwick - put Post at CHF!
did Gourdis play?
how was Grimes, Dea, Nason?
interesting about Browne.
did he gather kicks around the ground?
Rance? is it his kicking?
i don't understand how bad he is?
the fact that it was ...
11.24 (35) to 9.8 (17) ...
double the shots, is not good!
that tells me that the midfield and forward line is still 15th and 16th placed!
even if it is a practice match, they could of won by 100 points.
who played on Luke Ball? and who won?
King? forward or back or Coburg?
fudge practice matches and play the real stuff!
:)

McMahon is running around like a maiden at Colac .
Need blinkers as he keeps kicking backwards and sideways, actually today was laughable, most people around me were having a little giggle.
Hicks , bred to be a jockey, know his Dad, he played footy at the promising weight of about 65kg, son is the same, jumps jockey material, LOL.

Hey Torch, would love to answer all your questions, but its midnight .
Will say this, Tuck has to be in our starting 18. why ?
As he has a bigger body than most of the lightweights we have.
I have said this before, would play Tuck inside F50.
White played 5 minutes of good footy, the other 95 mins was riddled with mistakes.
Polo played down back as was okay,
Post played down back and the only time he gained possesions was when he zoned off ( I think the coaching staff gave him McMahons highlight video )
This kid is a forward and not a backman I am afraid and Hardwick will need to adjust his thinking, as he has done with Polo , putting him down back again after trying to make him a forward.
Not overly rapt with Roberts either, why ? we dont need a Dean Rioli at punt rd, that type of player is not suited to todays style.
Taylor looked okay, has good skills,
-
MT's individual summary
2. Thursty - solid in defence. A typical game from Will.
5. Simmo - Played the whole game in the ruck rotating with Gus in the first half and Browne in the second. Would've said he nullified Jolly and Farmer and will play round 1 as first ruck.
6. Polak - Only once again confirmed to me he is a temporary fill-in until Griffiths and Astbury mature. Really offered little today. Just doesn't have the speed and mobility to play FF long-term.
13. McMahon - A mixed bag from Jordie and another unlikely to play too much AFL footy this year. As I txted to FNM the good was his 2nd and 3rd efforts on the wing in the 2nd quarter when outnumbered. The bad was when the ball went over Contin's head and instead of going in for the footy in front of him Jordie stood off expecting the kid to turn around, fetch the footy for him which by then Contin was under pressure and then dish a handball to Jordie who by then had ran forward expecting a receive which is turned over. Senior players should not be expecting first gamers to do their work for them :scream.
14. Polo - Played forward in the first quarter then went back for the rest of the game. Worked hard and took a few courageous marks in defence but he's another whose footskills let him down especially when playing in backline. He kicks too short in the backline yet he can kick a long accurate 55m goal ???.
15. Farmer - not bad but didn't have the same influence he had last week.
16. McGuane - Solid defensively especially given how often the ball was coming into our defensive 50. a shame his footskills are hit and miss.
18. Rance - played across HF and sadly was terrible again particularly in the first half where he had shocker similar to the Hawthorn game. A real concern sadly. He's too slow with is decision making and his basic skills have gone to the dogs :(.
20. Morton - our best forward by far. 4 goals playing against Presti.
21. Tuck - disappointing for mine for 3 quarters. IMO Wellingham beat him hands down for most of the game. Only in the 3rd quarter did Tucky get get his hands on the ball regularly, ran the lines and was constructive and influential with the footy.
23. Jacko - I thought he made a few mistakes in the first quarter but for the last 3 quarters he was excellent. Showed very good leadership continually winning the hard ball and clearances throwing himself into stoppages and at the bottom of packs.
24. Collo - so-so from Collo. Hit and miss with his disposal and Ball his opponent was very prominent in the first half for the Pies.
25. Graham - has slipped behind both Vickery and Browne based on today. A shocker from him and the others have more tricks to their bow.
28. Kingy - tries his guts out and I would have him as one of our bests today given he played across HB in the first half getting a fair bit of footy and then went forward to kick 2 goals. Sadly triers with dodgy footskills like Kingy won't get us to where we need to get to. When you have two forwards leading into space on the HF line and you can't miss them by a mile kicking the ball out on the full.
29. Vickery - came on after halftime and gave us a mobile tall target up forward when we were on top in the third quarter. Nice mark and long goal in the 3rd. Starved of the footy in the last because the ball didn't get down there.
35. White - another under the pump. Can get the footy but his decision making and footskills then let him down.
37. Post - didn't standout playing across HB. Played a more take the defensive mark then dish off game rather than giving us run off the backline himself.
43. Dea - didn't do much today. Played HBF when on the ground but I actually didn't notice him after quarter time.
43. Browne - Really gave us a spark when he came on in the second half. It was just his ruckwork against experienced players like Jolly and Fraser but he was throwing himself like a rover into bottom of packs and on loose balls with 2nd and 3rd efforts just when you thought the Pies would clear. Best game I've seen him play so far easily.
44. Taylor - glimpses today playing on a HFF. Can look laconical though when he kicks. Had the chance to kick a couple of goals but missed them both.
45. Hicks - I think today he thought he was still playing U18s. The tempo of the game caught him out numerous times which caused him to stuff up. For example his best piece of play was when he got the ball about 70m out and ran and bounced in to space towards goal and what should have been a soader only for him to hold onto the ball too long giving the Pie defender coming at him the chance to spoil. Very tiny too. Not sure why he was considered our first pick in the rookie draft.
46. Webberley - disappointing today playing across HB. Made too many mistakes and fumbled quite a times.
47. Nason - okay. Nothing to write home about.
48. Grimes - Played in the back pocket when on. Not the worst out there for a kid playing his first game.
49. Contin - probably the best news to come out of today. Not saying he starred but he just looked a footballer out there - composed for someone so young and got a fair bit of the footy. In the main used it well and hit targets. Hardwick had him playing at the centre square bounces for practically the whole game and when he wasn't he was on the wing. A promising effort.
50. Roberts - patchy. Played the first quarter in defence before moving forward. He footpassed too short today coming out of the backline (although he did try and kick back towards the centre corridor) and unlike last week we didn't see his speed used to the team's advantage both offensively and defensively chasing down opponents.
-
Why on earth did we rookie Hicks ? Aint going to make it, way too small
-

Don't ask me :-\. I know we wanted players with speed and good footskills but to make it they need size as well to win the footy.

Thanks for the report guys.....very informative as always. :thumbsup
Some of the non-football related posting also very entertaining. :P Great to see everyone getting along

was at the game yesterday, sure we got beaten but with th eteam we had out their i wasnt that unhappy
polak rance white sanchez collins gus wont make it
roberts and taylor could be anything, they have x factor and could become freaks
happy with nason and farmer is very impressive
anyway i reckon th eumpires and the scoreboard flattered the pies but that my opinion
what i found funny after the game, is listening to sen on my way home, the tossbag journo covering the game was asked by dernie
how dustin martin went lol.... he replied that dustin martin had a game he would rather forget lol that he hardly touched the pill. well he had zero stats u moron , as we know he never played, my niece was having photos with him 2 minutes b4 the first bounce with hislop riewoldt and connors. fricken morons , sen that is

yeah that hoovenvast sounded like a bloody knob, wouldnt suprise to learn if he was a collingwood supporter...has been little mention they had prob 6 of their top 10 players out there...we would have had NONE :o
-
Interesting post, either your Jordy or Matthew mum ::)
Neither.
But at least I stayed at school long enough to learn English properly.
I am not surprised that football is just another thing that you know nothing about.
The way they all attack you.... are you from WA???? :lol :rollin :thumbsup ;D :D ;) :)

WA- always 2 hours behind.

I know we are hopeless over here... :thumbsup, gotto get ready soon and head to Perth (the land that time forgot), to see AC/DC.... yeha!! Lets just hope they get there on time and not 2 hours late.. :lol

what a joke they are, he first was asked bt dermie, how did martin go, and he replies that he had a game he would rather forget , hardly touched the ball lol :banghead :banghead :banghead
then he mentions the pies have 4 pr 5 players out but never said we had cuz, cotch, deledio, tambling, martin, foley, nahas, riewoldt, newman, connors(who has been playing well) etc all out . stuffing idiots
-
The idiot was actually a Collingwood official wasn't he? Gave a token Jackson, Morton or so were the best for the Tigers and the rest of the interview was all about the Pies and how great they were :chuck
I still reckon even though he wasn't playing Martin got as many touches as Travis Cloke did who was :lol.
On the game I'd still give Collo time although he hasn't set the world on fire this preseason. The rest I agree with X.
-
Was at yesterday's game, my observations:
Webberley would want to lift, couldnt hit the side of a barn and the pressure of the game got to him.
Mcmahon & Tuck go the ball but if they play regularly were stuffed.
White is terrible, his own worst enemy. KICK IT LONG SON !!!!!!! Turned the bal over with his 1st 4 possessions and didnt get much better after that.
Rance has Richmonditis. Suffering in confidence and its sad because I thought he was going to be our FB for the next 10 years. You could tell the coaching staff didnt want him anywhere near the backline.
Polak should be left on the rookie list, didnt get a touch as far as I could see. Looked slow and judgement just not there !!
On the flip side:
Contin was good.
Roberts is all class and can really use the ball. Didnt get much of it yesterday but what he did, he did well.
Interesting that Gourdis didnt play but was with the other boys. May well be elevated ??
I would rookie he and Roberts.

Nason - "very impressive"
Collins - "wont make it"
??? ???

50. Relton
always looked like kicking the goal in the last 1/4. was Richo-like from 55/60 meters out. should play on a forward flank R1. good draft pick.
48 Grimes
good size about him. nice long term key defender option FB/CHB. I wanted Bradshaw but understand why we went for this kid. Hope plays well for Coburg this year.
45 Hicks / 47 Nason
both had shocking misses running into goal from 20 meters out at full speed. Nason in 4th q, Hicks in 1st.
Hicks is very, very fast.
44 Taylor
was playing on a forward flank and presented strongly. Looks like a footballer and quite tall which is great. his pick up was the best part of the game by a mile.
43 Dea
looks like a very strong young man. big body on him
37 Post
too much class for Cloke IMO. was on top of him. also got to other contests and punched well. good footballer.
35 White
did some good things, get a fair bit of the ball, much of it in the middle rather than backline. Sadly does bit bit of bad things also. foot soilder / plodder.
34 Browne / 25 Graham
Graham has a body like superman. Shame he is not much good.
29 Vickery
Looked like a real key forward target, dispite his team hardly getting the ball into the forward line. Massive upgrade to Polak / Rance as a full forward.
24 Collins
I thought he played well. fluid, uses it well.
23 Jackson
I overheard Collingwood fans praising Jacko. He has his faults still but is a big unit and wins hard ball. Must be in best 22. Big strong body. As close to a battering ram as we have, did a good job as captian.
18 Rance
did not play well but i doubt he has played as a CHF much. I think people are being harsh on him. still only 20 y 4 month old. Not every key defender in the AFL was a superstar at this age.
16 McGuane / 2 Thursfield
few bad kicks out of the backline, some very good ones also for McGaune. I thought Thursfeild was very good. his abilty to punch from behind when the FF is leading is impressive. In our best side easy.
* Polak, McMahon not good enough
-
From my standpoint on yesterdays game liked what I saw of Relton Roberts and Troy Taylor. Thought Nason did some nice things as did Mitch Farmer.
Did anyone see the haymaker Chris Dawes gave Farmer when Mitch was tackling him? Was gobsmacked the umpire didn't pull play up and give a free.
Biggest disappointment was Rance choosing to not kick first option and handballing as to not expose his kicking and putting the team in trouble by going backwards.
On a funny note the bronx cheers for King coming off the ground were standard as was the standard Jordy/ Gold Coast quotes. :rollin

Do they count kick-ins as a kick in Dreamteam? Jordie had 13 that went straight to Jolly/Fraser :P.
Apparently Martin averaged 83 in his two preseason games which was the best average of the 2009 draftees.

I just joined the Champion Data mailing list, they sent through every score so far.
Contin and Tucks 100+ scores were the first of the pre-season.

* Polak, McMahon not good enough
nason missed an easy goal, but didn wonderfully well to win that ball yet snuffed the kick so what, he beat a bloke 2 times bigger to win that ball .. collins u say was ok, pigs arse i bet nason will play more games than collins thi syr
