David Rhys-Jones bagged Newitt for his quarter time address. Said it was too positive/soft and Coburg won't win too many games with that effort. Too bad Dave the Burgers kicked the next 5 goals straight :wallywink.
-
WP's bests: Polo, King, Connors, Gourdis.
Just on the delayed telecast showed O'Reilly showing a good attack on the footy and then nice kick out in front to Morton on the lead which set up the first goal of the second quarter..

WBC commentators
Kadhlet, Carnell, Clifton, Polo good.
Connors has been pretty good.
Gus, Browne giving drive in the ruck
Roberts in "smooth" that boy.
King came into it in the 2nd quarrter. Throwing his weight around and influence a contest.
-
where's polak?
-
WBC radio commentators are bagging the Craigieburn ground ::). Saying why the money wasn't used to upgrade Coburg's ground. It's too windy, "bugger all" shelter for fans if it rains and there's no public transport. Didn't the AFL learn from Waverley.
Someone should tell the dopey idiots about Craigieburn being a growth area ::).
3rd quarter started. Box Hill point.
45 - 41
-
where's polak?
No idea. Doesn't seem to be playing. I'll ask WP who is at the ground.

Just been told the WBC commentators were talking crap about Jordie missing targets today. McMahon missed one target only in the first quarter, a right foot grubber to King's advantage who overran it. Every other possession hit a teammate according to my secretary ;D.

-
From what I heard / saw on TV, he's had at least 4 turnovers.

Newitt 3/4 time address
Focus on Muston so he doesn't have space to kick those long goals.
Focus on clearances. Lost 6 of them that qtr.
Forwards to push up.

Be happy if Bruce for box hill doesnt go near the ball again so i dont have to hear the stupid noises from these pin heads

good effort that, only watched q1 Rhys jones was scathing of the efforts of coburg particularly RFC players...great fighting win , I reckon we're hard to beat at Craigieburn :thumbsup
-
McMahon needs to go back to his level of VFL Reserves
That's being generous too
-
Gee wasnt jordie bad.One kick especially that just grubbed along the ground was horrible
-
I only got to see the last 10 minutes how was Contin and O'Reilly?
-
i thouhgt both were ok ramps.certainly show potential
-
Good never give-in badly needed win. The Burgers could have dropped their heads with that last Box Hill goal but they kept fighting and pressuring and in the end could have won with a few goals to spare if we had made the most of all our chances. At least with Coburg you get a close game to watch each week. For once our experienced players stood up when the game was there to be won and showed leadership.
Connors was best for mine. Worked and ran hard over the whole ground. He has 6 more weeks to ponder how he wasted 8 weeks of his career in what should be games for Richmond rather than Coburg.
Webberley got better and better as the game went.
If Browne could translate today to Richmond then Simmo could be moved on. Mind you Box Hill because of Hawthorn's lack of rucks allowed us to dominate at the stoppages especially in the last quarter.
Good to see Contin in the VFL seniors. Will be better for the run. O'Reilly likewise showed he should be in the Coburg seniors as well.
Gourdis was solid in defence. No noticable mistakes.
Morton is above this level.
Roberts was really only effective in the first quarter.
Kingy and Jordie were Kingy and Jordie. They're just biding time until the end of the season.
Was that really Gus taking that strong grab :o.
For those that went today was there any reason why Polly and Griffiths didn't play today? Did Westhoff play ressies?
-
Morton well above that level.
Browne was okay as well.
Connors wont be any good at any level until he can improve off field
-
Polo easily BOG - more for the defensive stuff off the ball. Agree when he went into the middle things changed. Pressure goal to win the game.
BrownE was good as the game went on. Much better tap ruckman than Simmo and Gus
Gus' 2nd half was very good as well. Actually made correct position a number of times
Really impressed with the improvement with Gourdis. Couldn't understand why they kept but now I know - very good. Actually bring on June or July when we can promote another rookie
Contin - very solid lad and very good skills
Webberley - not far away from a senior game IMHO
Kingy - much maligned but gee he was great today. Thought it was stupid to send him back in the final qtr when he was clearly injured but his leadership in the F50 - sensational
Roberts - good
Morton - agree he is above VFL level but his defensive efforts inside the F50 at times were non existent at times today in the 1st half in particular. Maybe that's why he was dropped. Much better in the 2nd half
Jordie - some things were good, some things were poor - that's Jordie. thought his 3rd qtr was his best
Connors - was actually surprsied he was playing and not sure I agree but hey that's life. Had some shocking turovers but Very very good. Has all the talent in the world and it was good to see him play team orientated footy today. Needs to the be the rule not the exception.
Enjoyed watching O'Reilly; some really good signs there I reckon
Oops almost forgot Post :P well actually that probably sums it up... very disappointing again. I was hoping that being dropped might be the rocket he needed to get aggressive towards the contest and the ball - nope. Although did improve after half time. Just disappointing
-
If Post cant fire up soon then we should get rid of him, big men who dont have the blood boiling are no good. Is going backwards at a rate of knots from what weve seen in his games at Richmond, if hes no good at Coburg well ...maybe we are just wasting our time. Trade him if thats the case!
-
Put Browne in - Connors, u would seriously think of cutting back the penalty in 2-3 weeks if he keeps that up. King no good - Jordy - terrible he has lost the plot. cardfelt sp? lolstfu wow - gotta be impressed with that effort.
LOL@ me loser - VFL tipping comp I had an aggregate score for the match of 176 and picked Pox Hill ( eveyone wood of ;D) Coburg kickin the last goal cost me a tip and $ - I was still ;D :cheers all the same.
There is something amongst the mist on that effort :clapping
-
We would be better off if McMahon feigns an injury so we can upgrade Gourdis or Contin!
-
Kahlefeldt and Lawton looked pretty good, well worth keeping an eye on given we should be chopping another 10 minimum.
-

Get your hand off it, he's a kpp in only his 2nd year
He wouldn't have even had a chance to play AFL yet at most clubs
-

Weak heart
-
Kahlefeldt and Lawton looked pretty good, well worth keeping an eye on given we should be chopping another 10 minimum.
kah, looks the type that would benefit playing with more skilled players in senior company in a link wing type role, has a good build...lawton , not sure he was too impressive, would like to have seen him take a strong overhead mark or two.
-
According to the VFL site Griffiths, Westhoff and Hicks played in the ressies big loss yesterday.
-

Embarrassing Ramps.
"Big Men".... hes' 20 mate. KP take time...

"Contin was the instigator of geeing up the midfield group at the last change. He was saying things like, Don't take any poo from these blokes, if you run past them just hit'em, bash into'em. I like it."

If he doesnt have a passion for the contest then whats the point? He is a big Key Position player, needs to be looking at going through afew opponents and busting a couple of packs, instead Im seeing marks being dropped, footys running through his legs and a young bloke who according to some in here thinks hes a rock star!

Coburg Tigers put points on board
* Karena Cox
* From: Leader
* April 25, 2010 12:50PM
AFTER two close losses in the opening two rounds of the season Coburg finally notched a win with a one-goal victory over arch rivals Box Hill at Highgate Recreation Reserve on Saturday.
In another tight and see-sawing match the Tigers trailed the Hawks by five points at the first break but fought back to reverse this to be in front by five at half-time.
Again the Hawks came at the Tigers and led by eight points going into the final term but the home side held on in the final quarter for a 14.10 (94) to 13.10 (88) victory.
Richmond-listed players Mitch Morton and Jacob King kicked three goals each for Coburg.
Fellow Richmond players Dean Polo and Daniel Connors along with Justin Kahledfeldt and David Gourdis were impressive for the Tigers, while Luke Breust kicked five goals and Sam Gibson chipped in with three for the Hawks.
Coburg coach David Newett said the win was a team effort.
"The boys really stuck at it, were resilient and had learnt their lessons from previous weeks where we had two really close losses," Newett said.
"Those losses just made them hungrier to win.
"The whole list contributed and we played well as a team."
He added the win was made more special as it was the club's first VFL game to be played at Highgate Recreation Reserve.
"The win will be one the club will remember for a long time because the Coburg-Box Hill game is also becoming an Anzac tradition which is helping to build some great rivalry.
"The boys really enjoyed the win."
After three rounds the Tigers is in ninth position with one win and two losses.
This weekend it will meet the undefeated Sandringham away from home.
"We've got a tough month ahead and Sandringham is going to be hard to beat at home - they've got some key players we're obviously going to have to look at," Newett said.
"It's going to be a tough ask but the guys have shown that when we are at our best we can be competitive against any side."

Round 3 Match Report
coburg tigers website
Seniors
We finally got to play a game for points on our new Highgate Reserve Oval and it was greeted with a very blustery wind that seemed at times to have both ends throughout the day.
We kicked the first 2 goals and they were answered by 3 goals from the Hawks quickly.
We then came out in the 2nd quarter and kicked 5 goals in the first half of the 2nd quarter and we lead by 27 points at one stage but then the Hawks kicked 3 quick goals towards the end of the quarter and we went in with a 5 point lead at the main break.
Box Hill got on top of us slightly in the 3rd quarter and this resulted in a very exciting final quarter.
The lead change on numerous occasions and at 1 stage Box Hill had a 17point advantage on us but the boys never gave up hopefully making the visiting Anzacs proud.
Nick Carnell showed why he is a great leader. He was severely winded in the 2nd quarter and basically knocked out accidently by Mitch Morton,he still came back on to have a role in us winning.
Dean Polo kicked the winning goal with about 2 minutes to go and the place filled with jubilation.

Coburg notches first win
richmondfc.com.au
Tue 27 April, 2010
Coburg celebrated the opening of the Highgate Reserve facility in Craigieburn with a thrilling six-point victory over Box Hill on Saturday.
Dean Polo kicked the winning goal with seconds remaining to help the Tigers to their first win of the VFL season.
Coburg overcame some blustery conditions, and a 17-point deficit late in the game, in a performance coach David Newett believes was three weeks in the making.
“It was just reward for hard work they’ve put in early this season,” Newett said.
“We have come so close in previous two games, which gave them the determination in the last quarter when it was required.
“We just kept attacking in the last quarter and somehow found a way to get a result.”
The Tigers were helped by a strong contingent of Richmond-listed players, including Daniel Connors (25 possessions), Dean Polo (24, two goals), Jeromey Webberley (21) and David Gourdis (18).
“We had some really good contributors coming back into the team who showed great leadership - guys like Morton, Post, Gourdis, Graham and Browne,” Newett said.
“Dean Polo was able to perform well in roles all over the ground, including sneaking forward and having an impact.
“Jake King kicked goals at crucial times, and Relton Roberts came alive with some important touches in last quarter.
“Dan Connors was outstanding all day, playing off half back. He provided good run and rebound, along with Jeromey Webberley.”
Coburg travels to Trevor Barker Oval to play Sandringham this Sunday May 2, at 2pm.
Final Scores
Coburg Tigers 2.2 7.3 9.4 14.10 (94)

looks like a tremendous facility out there in craigieburn, we should make more use of it with regular training down there at least fortnightly, pounding the streets with a warm up lap...sheesh, we'd turn the place into a Y&B fortress

I knew Gourdis had a pretty good game, but never realised he got that much of the ball (18 disposals)
Considering he was back in defence and I can only remember seeing one turnover by foot from a long kick to the forward flank, I'm wrapped to see him coming along well.
I know he played a game in defence in his first year at Coburg Reserves where he collected something like 32-35 disposals, good to see after an injury affected 2009 that he's now putting in consistent good quality games at the next level up.
I think he will adjust to the pace of AFL pretty well given his natural speed and agility, I hope he gets a chance sooner than later.

According to the VFL site Griffiths, Westhoff and Hicks played in the ressies big loss yesterday.
I am not really sure it's worth keeping Griffiths in this side, surely he won't be developing or getting his fitness up when he never sees the ball down there. Wouldn't we be better off promoting him to the Coburg seniors where he will get to see more of the ball??

I heard Griffiths was injured in the warm up before the game and withdrew from the match
I don't think it was any major issue, just playing it safe

Ah ok, cheers Inf. Lets hope he gets a good run soon.

If Post cant fire up soon then we should get rid of him, big men who dont have the blood boiling are no good. Is going backwards at a rate of knots from what weve seen in his games at Richmond, if hes no good at Coburg well ...maybe we are just wasting our time. Trade him if thats the case!
Embarrassing Ramps.
"Big Men".... hes' 20 mate. KP take time...
If he doesnt have a passion for the contest then whats the point? He is a big Key Position player, needs to be looking at going through afew opponents and busting a couple of packs, instead Im seeing marks being dropped, footys running through his legs and a young bloke who according to some in here thinks hes a rock star!
Yeah I see it too.
He's not consistent AFL standard yet. Doesn't need any spotlight yet, good or bad.

Post did the defensive things right. Polo was good. Morton was good in the 2nd quarter. King was okay. King is a battler. He may not be good enough for the AFL level but his attitude is very good and his goal in the third quarter was much needed. McMahon was terrible. Attitude very poor. Connors was good. Things I saw Webberley do were okay

We venture down to the Beach Rd oval on May 2 to tackle Sandringham.
I'll be there. 10 minute walk from my house. ;D

FEISTY Richmond defender Jake King has been rubbed out for two matches over separate incidents in a weekend VFL match.
King was last night found guilty of tripping and charging in Coburg's narrow win over the Box Hill Hawks.
The maligned King had struck form in the lower grade and was pressing for a senior recall in Richmond's daunting trip to Skilled Stadium on Sunday. Both incidents were captured on video.

He didn't get done for that hit on Morton did he?
That was as fair a bump as you can get

The VFL site just says Kingy copped 1 week for charging and another week for tripping
