This could be a chance to make some comparisons.
Namely:
Griffiths V's Watts
Although the Dees may think this may be too greater risk.
So Jack will probably be named to face the Doggies Friday night. :)
-
Looking forward to seeing the Burgers in my former home town. Be interesting to compare and contrast Jack Watts and Griffiths. Of course i will do some kind of observation type report thing, if anyone wants me to pay particular attention to anyone let me know. Ill try and get there for the reserves too, if i can drag the missus along for two games hahaha.

Would love you to keep a close eye on Kahlefeldt, CV. I have been asking about his performance all season so far but apart from a few snippets no-one has been able to give me much in depth feedback. He keeps getting mentioned in the bests (just made the interstate train-on squad I believe) and given the effort he went to in trying out with us and then staying on at Coburg, I just have a feeling that he is possibly a player with an attitude that can make it. He was very highly regarded at the top level up here (QAFL) and is still very young so would appreciate your comments.

Yep I am with you Smokey, I brought him up as one of the VFL players to watch this year for a draft prospect at the end of the year.

I saw him play the other week when we played Box Hill. I was very impressed and thought we was one of our best in the first three quarters. Seemed to go out of the game in the last quarter when the game was on the line.
Let's just say that he was better than many of the current players on our list. But that is my opinion from watching only one game.

Griffiths is an obvious one to keep an eye on for us Cranny. But also Gourdis, Contin and O'Reilly.
If you do manage to drag the missus along to both games :lol could you also keep tabs on Grimes and Westhoff? :thumbsup

The Age today says Dea isn't playing today for Coburg due to some foot injury.
Some may ask can he have a foot injury if he never kicks the ball :shh :shh :rollin

RFC players in Coburg seniors:
Collins, McGuane, Hislop, Browne, Graham, Morton, Mcmahon, Contin, Gourdis, Roberts, O'Reilly, Post, Griffiths ready to go.
No Connors?
-
Not a lot from Gilligan and Westhoff says FF.
Alroy couple of silky things but looked short of a run.
Westy a nice contested mark and snap but quiet compared to what FF saw at Frankston.
-
No Connors?
Yep Connors is playing. Collins is not. FF typo.
Dea is in a moon boot on his left leg.
McGuane kicks a point for the first score of the game.
-
Can you ask how Hicks was, OE?
Just listening on the radio... "McMahon sells his team-mate Contin into a lot of trouble"
-
A reminder the game is being broadcast on 97.7 FM - http://www.caseyradio.com.au
Gourdis OOTF and then Casey were paid a free. Casey point.
McGaune sounds like he is playing forward.
Commentator called out Adam Thomson? ???. Must be a mistake.
Hislop on the run 45m out missed. Should have been a goal.
Casey run it down for goal.
Gus gives away 50m but the Casey ruckman shonked his kick at goal OOTF.
Coburg run it down to McGuane for a goal :gotigers
8 - 7
-
It was O'Reilly who kicked our first goal. Commentators don't know our players ::)
50m against Griffiths then it again it's probably McGuane ::). Goal to Watts.
8 - 14
-
Can you ask how Hicks was, OE?
Didn't do much going by what FF sms-ed.
Watts another goal.
8 - 20
-
Commentator called out Adam Thomson? ???. Must be a mistake.
Why? He should be playing shouldn't he? ???
-
Playing tomorrow TA.
Post misses everything having a shot and doesn't make the distance.
Casey up the other end for a point and then another.
8 - 22
-
Roberts point.
Rayson point
11 - 23
-
Griffiths got our first goal. They finally figured out who he was.
Quarter time
Coburg 1.5-11
Casey 3.5-23
Goal: Griffiths.
Messy game. Lots of turnovers by Coburg.
-
Playing tomorrow TA.
Since when?
He's only an emergency for tomorrow.
-
Oops you're right TA :thumbsup. Thank gawd for that lol.
Coburg down a player on the bench. Casey have a 23rd (U18 kid presumably). Coburg not doing many rotations.
-
First two goals to Casey. Too easy. Turnovers killing us,
11 - 36
5 mins Q2
-
Griffiths up and under from 55m. Roberts off the pack snaps a point.
12 - 36
-
Geez we have plenty of dud kicks :banghead. McGuane another one.
Roberts landed on the footy and is in a lot of pain. Broken ribs?
-
Worst skills you can ever see
-
They are saying he's only winded now. Griffiths also in the hands of the trainers.
FF says Jordie has 100% efficiency just in case the commentators are bagging his disposal.
-
Rayson long and Griffiths takes a good mark with the flight of the ball outsmarting his oppoent. Goal :gotigers
19 - 37
18 mins Q2
-
Out of the centre. Mcgaune finds Browne inside 50. Went through for a goal but Morton gave away a free so no score :banghead.
-
Good boy, Griff. :thumbsup
-
Miller pushes McGuane straight in the back but it's paid a mark. McGuane then runs through the mark to give away 50m and a certain goal :banghead.
19 - 43
-
Cale Morton apparently ran away from Gus (a la same thing with Lade last year) instead of fight :lol.
Roberts back on.
-
Good boy, Griff. :thumbsup
AGREE- Started very well!
-
Casey goal and then a point. Coburg are trying but turning it over and not having an idea what to do with the pill :P
19 - 50
-
Come on, Griff. Have another good week next week and come in against Essendon.
-
does coburg have a midfield lol?
-
One way traffic :P. Another goal from a turnover.
19 - 62
-
Half-time
Coburg 1.5 2.7-19
Casey 3.5 9.8-62
Goals: Griffths 2
-
Commentators are bagging Jordie, Thomson and Post. Hislop as well - disappointing and struggling. He's playing in defence to give Coburg some run and be physical but physical is all that he does. Needs to do far more. Bagging the fact Morton isn't being played up forward. Coburg need a couple more marking targets.
Coburg turning over the ball. Slow in transition. Casey more ferocious at the footy.
-
Good boy, Griff. :thumbsup
AGREE- Started very well!
I would have been happy with 2 goals for the game, so I'm stoked with 2 goals for the half from the big fella.
HF: Nason Astbury Riewoldt
FF: Morton Griffith Nahas/Taylor/Roberts.
:pray
-
if he gets another 2 today he should debut next week :gotigers
-
Only positive seems to be Griffiths.
Txt from FF at the game:
"Ugly game. I don't like zoning or flooding and that's about all there is. Casey better skills on the breaks.
Griffiths coming along nicely
Connors good
Gourdis couple of bad kicks but pretty good.
McGuane looks frustrated and down on confidence.
Thomson better that quarter.
Melbourne's Jack Watts has bulked up, is big and playing well."
-
I would say there were better skills in my sons under 16 team playing in driving rain last sunday.
-
Casey goal in first 30 secs :P
Morton to Post who ignores the switch (Gourdis waiting) and then turns it over as Rayson goes half-hearted at the mark. Point to Casey.
19 - 69
-
Leave Griffiths at Coburg to develop and kick a few bags and build up confidence before being promoted.
-
Hislop gives a off the ball free inside defence 50 to busy wrestling and he's still continuing to wrestle ::). We can't have undisciplined hacks on our list.
Griffiths knock to the arm. Head hit the ground? Hasn't got up.
-
Gus nice floated kick :o ;D and finds Jordan. Goal :gotigers
25 - 69
Griffiths off with arm loose by his side :-\.
-
AAAAAAAAAAAARRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRRGH. :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead :banghead
-
Another 50m penalty (against Morgan) for goal gifted to Casey. Undisciplined rabble!
25 - 75
-
Undisciplined rabble!
Griffiths off with arm loose by his side :-\.
Farrk. >:( >:( >:( >:(
-
The development team have their work cutout for them. The skills are hopeless. I don't even think they know what their supposed to do. The Richmond boys are the worst offenders if you're wondering. :banghead :banghead
-
Goal to Coburg.
Browne got mark. Off to Clifton. Down field free kick. Gus 30m out. Poster.
33 - 82
Commentators are bored. Bagging every Richmond player.
-
have we got any more info on Griffiths
-
The development team have their work cutout for them.
Cut deep. 14 new faces again this year.
-
Boundary commentator - "I reckon Casey is going to have a big win here".
well thank you captain obvious ::).
Roberts skillfully off the ground. To Hislop who goes one handed. Coburg player from 30m out grubs it through for a point.
34 - 82

FF says struggling to find any bests .... Connors, umm ....
"Cuz was here watching. So much for him not showing interest as certain people would have us think ..."
Commentators (remember these guys didn't have a clue who was who half the time):
Morton - should be kicking bags at this level. Played out of position.
Thomson- unsighted
Gus and Browne - tried hard and good around the ground. Problem is the field kicking. Same as Casey ruckmen.
Connors - unsighted after half-time. Played out of position. Maybe was a rotation issue.
-
wow, we are in a world of trouble.
Griffiths definately did his strapped shoulder, headbutted the ground in frustration when it happened. My guess is he wont play afl this year, which is a shame because he has good hands and runs very hard. Kicked the opening two goals from limited delivery. Could easily hold down a FF position in two years time if the shoulder holds together. Im being bias but i reckon he will have Jack Watts covered if he can stay on the park.
Mcguane had his knee iced at 3/4 time dont know how bad it was, he looked to be explaining it to foley but didnt seem to concerned. Didnt to alot. Good to see foley, cuz and kingy watching on.
Connors was the only AFL player out there with any intent, and he seemed realitively quiet.
Grahaem- Is not an AFL footballer at all, he was deplorable.
Post was finding ways not to get involved in the play, he has absolutely no confidence. none.
Morton gosh he played like a frustrated player that didnt want to be there.

At least in past weeks Coburg have been competitive and actually could have had a couple more wins given a couple narrow loses they've had but today was simply a shocker and nothing positive to be taken out of it :-\. All the all made worse with Griffiths injuring his shoulder again :(.
McGuane is okay apparently. People won't agree but I don't see he or Gourdis for that matter as part of our future. If you can't kick reliably or have too many brain fades then you are a liability out there.
Postie and Morton sound lost.
Hislop is a poor man's Jake King and that's saying something. Sadly a too common type Richmond has had over the past 30 years.
There's hardly any depth to put pressure on the guys in the seniors. We've got a long long way to go to fix the mess we're in but we knew that already. It doesn't help either that the Coburg has lost so many of their experienced players meanign their list is weak as well.

A shame? It's a freakin disaster.
Sean Rusling, Andrew Walker anyone?
Once shoulders start to go they very rarely recover.
I am extremely concerned by Griffiths injury.
We've seen Judd recruited high with a dodgy shoulder. Weagles got lucky.
We've seen Selwood recruited high with a dodgy Knee. Cats got lucky.
Looks like we're not lucky. :'(
-
we haven't got the lowdown on the injury yet have we, hopefully he's only stirred things up as opposed to popped it out or damaged ligaments...we'll soon know...geez a big guy like that needs some commando training to learn how to break a fall.....are these guys professional or what :o
-
It was a clash of arms as Griffiths tried to spoil running across in front. He was in a lot of pain and down for quite a while. :(
Roberts is silky, has an impressive burst of speed and reads the ball off packs really well. Just doesn't get the ball enough atm. Might have had an issue with boot stops today because he lost his footing a lot. It was quite slippery but he seemed to fall more than others.
Hicks was lively in the last quarter of the reserves. I only saw the last few minutes of the 2nd quarter and then the 2nd half. Didn't spot much of him in the 3rd quarter.
I'm a Hicks fan, he has good skills and is a one grab / no fumbles type player. Quite small which makes it tough for him as he has a lot of competition and small players seem to be a dwindling percentage of AFL players.
I don't like zoning as a spectacle. Our zone was ripped apart by good footskills from Casey. When they got a break from the flooding we had players guarding space which left them with players free to pinpoint.
Bloody awful to watch but I have to admit it probably saved us early on from an eventual 20+ goal pounding because Casey were absolutely smashing yet only 4 or 5 goals up well into the 2nd quarter.
-
think l covered everything in the past. If someone is busted :banghead dont draft them because they add no ability to your playing list watching
-
Andrew Browne and umpire Sully clashed heads in the last quarter. Sully backed into him.
Browne looked to come off second best. He was in the hands of trainers for a while and probably counting teeth. Sully had to go off bleeding from a cut on the back of his head. Some of the crowd told him they'd found his glasses as he passed them. :D
I saw him after the game with a bandage on his head off to get stitches.
There is a chance Browne may be in strife for making contact with an umpire.
-
Gee we are just in a world of pain at the moment, be it the RFC the Coburg football ball and the Coburg reserves (nice 1 point win this week though), we just can't take a trick, oh well soldier on... ;D

Did you see much of young Westhoff in the reserves? FF
-
Just the last half, Mopsy. I have big hopes for him.
He took a very good contested mark in the last quarter and topped it off by kicking the goal from an acute angle. He was good below his knees on another occasion.
Didn't see him do much else today. He was awesome (along with Griffiths) against Frankston a few weeks ago.

Praise for forward line as Scorpions sting Coburg
BRENT DIAMOND
May 9, 2010
VFL
CASEY Scorpions coach Brad Gotch described it as the "best forward line" he has ever coached in the Scorpions' 73-point drubbing of Coburg at Casey Fields yesterday.
Jack Watts played his best game of the season to "warrant consideration" for next Saturday's clash against West Coast. He kicked four goals while Brad Miller kicked three goals.
The Scorpions also had other Melbourne-listed players such as Austin Wonaeamirri, who was "lively" despite kicking three posters. Michael Newton, Neville Jetta and Addam Maric posed threats up forward.
"He probably should've kicked six," Gotch said of Watts. "He hit the post in the last quarter which would've been his sixth. It's the best game that I've seen him play."
Michael Stockdale had 27 disposals in a back pocket, with Gotch questioning how he could have miss out on state selection. James Wall's defensive work was brilliant in the 18.17 (125) to 6.16 (52) win.
David Gourdis and Daniel Connors showed promising signs for the Tigers.

SENIORS
We headed out to Casey Fields, Cranbourne to face the Casey Scorpions.
Once again we got away to a slow start in the first half, but Ben Griffiths was a good target up forward up until he got injured.
Dan Connors maintained his good form off half back but our rotations were hurt when NIck Carnell sustained a cork thigh, Justin Kahlefeldt an ankle and Luke McGuane did not appear after half time as he had to be a late call up in for Richmond in Adelaide.
Rhett Jordon had another good game as is showing that he can play at this level.
David Gourdis was solid at Full back and Nick Carnell battled hard under duress.
We need to be more consistent over 4 quarters and we can hopefully turn the corner.

CASEY: 3.5.23 9.8.62 13.11.89 18.17.125

RESERVES
The Reserves bounced back after being on the end of two 100point+ defeats in as many weeks.
It was a close game all day and we got excellent drive from Nic Cattapan and Andy Duhau playing in the midfield.
James Lawton continued his good form and should be considered for a senior recall.
His housemate Luke Geister playing his 2nd game was also a good target up forward with his strong marking.
We went in at 3qtr time 16 points down but we kicked 7 goals in 18 minutes and looked to have the game won.
Casey then returned fire with 5 quick goals and we managed to hold on for another 1 point win.
We had Ben Jakobi and Brendan Fewster playing their first games of the season and showed that once full fitness is achieved they will be knocking the door down for senior selection also.

Connors, Gourdis continue solid VFL form

Richmond’s Daniel Connors and David Gourdis continued their strong VFL form at the weekend despite Coburg’s 75-point loss to Casey.
Connors has been impressive for the Tigers’ VFL affiliate since accepting a club-imposed eight-week ban, and again provided plenty of run off half back, collecting 24 possessions.
Fellow defender Gourdis, a Richmond rookie, was one of Coburg’s best with his ability in one-on-one contests and rebounding from the back half.
Mitch Morton topped the Tigers’ possession count with 30, while goalsneak Relton Roberts looked lively with 14 touches and seven inside 50s.
Coburg coach David Newett found positives in the loss, despite describing it as the most disappointing performance of the season.
“We were very disappointed with out defensive efforts. We didn’t put enough pressure on Casey to win the ball back,” Coburg coach David Newett said.
“We did see some positives in our movement when we did have the ball, but it just wasn’t consistent across four quarters.
“I was very happy with Dan Connors preparation and performance again, and Dave Gourdis continued his early good form this season.
“We need to rebound quickly from this. They boys are all aware what they have to do.”
On a sour note for Richmond, Ben Griffiths (the Club’s second pick in the 2009 National Draft) left the field with a shoulder injury after booting two early goals.
“It was a real positive and a downer for Ben Griffiths, the way he started. He took the first big mark of the match and was leading well,” Newett said.
“You could see that he has AFL qualities though.”

good news re. gourdis o'rielly connors
wow, we are in a world of trouble.
Post was finding ways not to get involved in the play, he has absolutely no confidence. none.
Morton gosh he played like a frustrated player that didnt want to be there.
i think the more trouble issue is that we got spanked by both melbourne senior and 2's.
in the VFL they have the likes of Watts, Austin, Jetta, Gysberts etc.
we should be ahead of melbourne demons list wise - we had 5 top 20 draft picks six seasons ago

Good to see young Rhett taking the opportunity he has been given this year. If you are looking for a young man with the right attitude, Rhett is your man.
'65 (back from LSL in Italy and looking foward to seeing the young Tigers play on Sunday)
PS Jack it really is time to move on :cheers

Height, weight and position that Rhett Jordan plays? Age? Does he have pace? Should he be a player we keep an eye on?
