Does anyone know who we play in the NAB Challenge?
I've got a feeling we are off to Alice Springs to make up for the cancellation of the Allstars game.
-
Greg Denham says we expect to be playing in Alice Springs Friday week (25th Feb) for our first NAB challenge match to make up for the cancelled All-Stars game.

RFC twitter says we're not sure yet but its (playing in Alice) definitely a possibility

Disappointing for us in Victoria - hopefully it means we get to play the rest of them in regional areas of Vic or Southern NSW :pray
-
If the opposition is yet to be determined does that mean the likely opponent is out of this weekend's losers?

I would think so
-
I heard whispers it could be against Port but nothing confirmed so don't take my word on it.

Cotchin returns in the Alice
By Kim Hagdorn
Sports News First
21 February 2011
Cotchin, 20, has completed a strategic summer training program to protect against any repetition of previous ankle problems and was always planned for release in the second round of NAB action.
The Tigers head to nation’s “red centre” after having their clash with the AFL Indigenous team cancelled firstly in Darwin and then in the Alice due to torrential rain fall from Cyclone Yasi early this month.
The Alice Springs clash is the first of the next phase of NAB games for clubs that have been knocked out of the summer competition.
Richmond coach Damien Hardwick will announce his travelling party for the Alice on Thursday when he will reveal immediate plans for Tigers big guns Chris Newman, Brett Deledio and reigning Coleman medallist Jack Riewoldt.
It remains unclear if the top trio will make this week’s trip.
The top three Tigers were all rested from opening NAB duties against Collingwood and Carlton last week.
Cotchin will play after completing his first full pre-season since joining the Tigers as the nation’s number draft pick in 2007.
Despite missing five games last season the classy ball-winner finished seventh in Tigers fairest and best voting and is a crucial cog in their 2011 midfield and plans to push up the AFL premiership ladder.
He averaged just under 20 possessions a game in 2010.

Brett Deledio and Brad Miller are meeting and greeting the fans at Dick Smith's Alice Springs store (courtesy of RFC twitter)

RFCO also said they'll be covering the game tomorrow night some capacity. Announcement tomorrow.

Lids interviewing Rance on piano. Alex has a baby grand at home.
Link: http://richmondfc.com.au
* Rance checked out the ground in Alice. It's a spongy deck. They were told to stay off the centre wicket area.
* He'll play a talls/smalls hybrid role in defence.
* Working on diving in for the ball without banging his head lol.

Video will be streamed live;

Top stuff RFC :thumbsup :cheers
-
Thank you thank you.
I will be honest, it may not work tonight, but we've tested it so far and it has. Coverage up there in that part of Alice is pretty pathetic, so its very much fingers crossed. In reference to quality: No commentary, no scores, its just footage. We're uploading from a wireless Telstra USB stick. It won't be HD. We're uploading to uStream so there shouldnt be a buffer issue, only the issue of internet speed/camera.
Basically (and this is for everyone) dont expect TV quality
-
Thanks for going to the effort whether it comes off or not RFCO :). If you can pull it off you'll be a very popular man :yep.
Are there any bandwidth issues/limits? I remember a preseason game in Mildura and the poor local radio station's live internet link couldn't handle a whole hoard of Tiger supporters all connecting at once lol.
-
Thank you thank you.

The footy is on now. Port got the first goal.
-
Nahas having a shot. Miss.
Rich 1
Port 6
-
Falling down up forward. We can't find a mark inside 50.
-
Commentators doing mexican accents for Bachar Houli ???
Goal - Batchelor on the run
Rich 7
Port 6
-
One too many handballs Tiges.
Commentators saying we're looking really really good and sharp after Port had the better of the first 3-4 minutes. Tackling a feature by both sides so far.
-
The live internet feed is really good - IF you like watching it frame by frame, and out of focus with no sound, and pop-up ads every 5 seconds :P
-

Port 6
Corrected was actually Cotch.

The guy running the Live Chat said :
"We will have a broadcast quality video uploaded shortly after the match." :)
-
Ball with houli out of defence finds Conca dummies around his opponent runs and hits Vickery. 10 times inside 50.
Kick doesn't make the distance :P
Port runs it up the other end but kick a point.
We then step over the line on the kick-in and Port get another point.
Meyer then kicks a point.
7 - 9
-
Jacko long inside 50 but to a 1 on 2 and Port clear, run it up the other end and goal.
Rich 7
Port 15
-
How many times have we been inside our forward 50 and been outmarked :P
Repeat of Port's last goal. Defence without the footy is still poor.
Rich 7
Port 21
-
Actually, the worst thing about the live feed is, you get a few seconds of choppy action, then it just freeze frames for about 30 seconds at a time, and re-ignites with the ball 50 metres away.
Basically, I've given up trying to watch it and am following it here, so regular score updates appreciated :thumbsup
-
Siren. QT
Richmond 1.1-7
Port Adel. 3.3-21
Goals: Commentators on ABC saying Batchelor; HMH says Cotchin.
Best (ABC): Farmer, Nahas, Vickery ..... all "busy"
Inside 50s: 15 - 10........ so that's 15 times inside 50 for just 2 shots :P
-
Anyone who still doesnt have the link for the radio stream here it is.
http://www.abc.net.au/res/streaming/audio/windows/local_darwin.asx
-
They're bombing it into the forward 50 with no purpose. Either that, or Vickery can't mark.
-
The good: Play through the midfield and centre clearances we're on top.
The bad: Forward line is non-existent
Defensive pressure when the ball is rebounded out of our forward line. It's cost us two goals.
Still getting "trapped" insdie our defensive 50 when trying to clear.
Basically we were on top in general play for most of that first quarter for no scoreboard reward. Port had a good couple of minutes aty the start and end and kicked 3 goals.
-
Crowd: 5000 (disappointing say commentators) but has grown in the last 25 mins.
-
Handball misses Edwards in the centre and Port clear to score a point.
7 - 22
-
Dumb Jacko. Ripped the ball from Chaplin who had taken the mark and gave away 50m at HB.
But we gain possession thanks to Cotch. Ends up with Rance up forward. Point!
8 - 22
-
4 handballs under pressure but ball ends up with Jacko on 50m. He misses.
The kick-in is intercepted by Kingy. Goal :gotigers
15 - 22
-
Free to Port at the bounce and then another free given away to their Westhoff.
15 - 28
-
The Coterie boys (Daniel and Lukey) have both given away stupid free kicks :banghead
Schulz has just kicked one from 55
-
Schulz gets another for Port :scream
15 - 34
Their goals are coming too easily.
-
Goal to big Miller after a poo turnover from Port :gotigers
-
3 inside 50s for no return again :P
Edwards free and it should have been a mark but neither of two Tigers could take it as they spoil each other.
Jacko kicks a point.
Port mistake on wing ends up with Taylor over the top to Miller for a goal.
22 - 34
-
Goal to Houli
-
Schulz kicks into Rance on the mark :lol
Point to Port
Houli on the wing. Gets 50m. Goal from 55 :gotigers
28 - 35
-
Nahas goal.
The forward pressure looks good.
-
Cotchin is looking good so far. He's been influential in the first half.
Cornes mouthed off gave away 50m. Cotchin hits Nahas from just insdie 50. Goal :gotigers
34 - 35
-
schulz to motlop to some other bloke, goal to port
-
Nahas on FIRE!!!
Free kick 15m out right in front.
-
ABC radio is on about a minute delay.
40 - 41
-
Dusty bangs one through from 55.
Good attack on the ball on the wing by someone.
-
Schulz beats 3 :banghead then misses :thumbsup
-
Nahas has been impressive so far - he's booted two and covered heaps of ground
Plenty of drive out of the mdifield and insde 50 but now we are finally scoring.
A brilliant cameo from Dustin Martin off the bench who finds Vickery and gets it back from 55m out puts the boys in front :gotigers
46 - 41
-
Schulz beats 3 :banghead then misses :thumbsup
Nothing's changed ;)
-
it is looking good. :gotigers
-
Motlop kicks another. half time
Schulz dominating in the air. Motlop dominating as well. Miller looking fairly good and Vick has dropped some marks he probably should have taken
-
If you use the link posted in comments 0858 works a treat
-
Motlop kicks his third on the siren, putting Port back in front :scream.
Half-time
Richmond 1.1 7.4-46
Port Adel. 3.3 7.6-48
Goals: Nahas 2, Martin, Miller, Cotchin, Houli, King.
Bests (ABC): Love Cotch, Nahas, Houli fantastic, Miller started to have an impact late in thjat quarter.
Commentators saying it's a great game.
-
The live internet feed is really good - IF you like watching it frame by frame, and out of focus with no sound, and pop-up ads every 5 seconds :P
Still better than just the radio RR. :thumbsup
-

http://www.abc.net.au/darwin/programs/webcam_radio.htm?ref=listenliveradio
i tried the direct link and it was delayed
-
too slow
:cheers
-
No probs al :thumbsup
Best thing about that quarter is we got goals out of our mids from distance - Dusty, Cotch, Houli - so we weren't only reliant our forwards to kick them which what happened in the first quarter when we couldn't kick any.
Dusty and Cotch are guns. Houli showing himself as a good pick-up in the PSD. Thanks Bombers
-
Is Foley playing ? if so how is he going?
-
stuff you have gone early on Houli there, MT. Essendon supporters waited at least 2 games before declaring they will dominate this year :shh :lol
-
eff you have gone early on Houli there, MT. Essendon supporters waited at least 2 games before declaring they will dominate this year :shh :lol
;D
Haven't heard Foley's name WA. Maybe he's the sub?
-
pressure was good that quarter.
Nahas is finding the pill a bit.... disposal ...fair?
-
thanks MT can't wait to see him back.
-
Crowd: 6,500 and building still. Good support for us.
-
Free to Derickx, quick out of centre to Nahas..... poster
47 - 48
-
Motlop poster.
47 - 49
-
Port goal :-\
47 - 55
-
Edwards go up for the mark and the snap is a point.
48 - 55
-
Foley was just mentioned then on the wing.
Vickery marks inside 50. Adjacent to the "tree of knowledge".
50m penalty. Port player reported apparently. Richmond player on the gorund.
Goal :gotigers
54 - 55
-
Nahas sounds like he is having a good game
-
Bit of a scuffle going on when Vicks kicked the goal.
-
Ump off the ball pinging frees at every centre bounce ???
Point to Port
54 - 56
-
Nahas sounds like he is having a good game
Playing for his career ?? 8)
-
Who was on the ground and went off for us?
-
Ive been out a while. How have the newbies gone Conca Batchelor et al?
-
We had it forward again but King's kick across the ground was ordinary. Port run it forward but we get a touch.
54 - 57
-
"Sensational" handball by Edwards. Vickery on the end of the chain and goals :gotigers
60 - 57
-
Newbies been quiet Ramps although the commentators may not know them well to call their names.

-
Port goal
66 - 63
-
Miller has a ping but it rolls out of bounds.
-
RFC: Grigg has played in the midfield for much of the night and has picked up some handy stats
Two marks in a row to Port's Westhoff.
66 - 69
-
Forward entries 35 Rich to 22 Port
What is going on ?
-
there scoring too easily is the problem lol. maybe our boys are getting a bit tired in the heat.
-
Free to Port inside 50. What's the free kick count? :scream. Goal on the siren.
3QT:
Richmond 1.1 7.4 10.6-66
Port Adel 3.3 7.6 11.9-75
Goals: Vickery 3, Nahas 2, Martin, Cotchin, Miller, Houli, King
Bests: Vickery best for us, Nahas so much work, Taylor snuck on to a few passes of play. Houli dropped out it that quarter.
We've been 13 times more inside 50 but are 9 point down :P
-
Port have more players with polish especially in their forward line. We need to add more class to our list or at least find it out of our newbies as they develop.
-
RFC: "Tom [Derickx] has showed plenty tonight in the ruck. Looks at home at the highest level. "
Port's ruckman Stewart is starring going by the ABC commentators.
-
maybe our boys are getting a bit tired in the heat.
Yep I think we hit a/the wall late in that quarter. The momentum swung to Port after we got 9 point in front. Hopefully we can recharge and finish off the game.
-
Grimes stuffs the kick OOTF. Port get a point.
66 - 76
-
maybe our boys are getting a bit tired in the heat.
Yep I think we hit a/the wall late in that quarter. The momentum swung to Port after we got 9 point in front. Hopefully we can recharge and finish off the game.
Well if anything they are young enough to find another gear. Lets see what happens.
-
First time I've heard Dea's name as well tonight.
We're having trouble again getting out of defensive 50 a few times and got punsihed. Sounds like we have stopped running and there are no options running into space upfield.
66 - 82
-
Lovely by Edwards.
-
maybe our boys are getting a bit tired in the heat.
Yep I think we hit a/the wall late in that quarter. The momentum swung to Port after we got 9 point in front. Hopefully we can recharge and finish off the game.
Well if anything they are young enough to find another gear. Lets see what happens.
It's very hot and humid so some of our cubs wouldn't be use to it.
Edwards good vision across the attacking 50. Gus 35m out. Goal :gotigers
72 - 82
Needed that!
-
McGuane OOTF ::)
-
Good play by Batchelor out of defence to Houli to Conca back to Houli who runs on and hits Miller. 50m. Goal :gotigers
78 - 82
-
Greatplay by tiges one end of the ground to the other finished off by miller

Grigg inside 50. Mortons to Vickery and snaps a rovers goal :gotigers
84 - 82
-
We are killing them in the centre.
-
Clearance again (last 4 won) thanks to Gus ..... and Miller gets the free. Doesn't make the distance and it rushed.
85 - 82
-
Grigg finds Edwards in space in the centre to Farmer (fumbles but collects) to King to Nahas who finds Vickery. Tough angle. OOTF.
-
Vickery again. Slot it big fella, make it 5.

Nahas point.
92 - 82
-
Port point
92- 83
21 mins gone.
-
Just got home to catch up on the commentary
Interesting to see if those writing off Vickery after the 1st round of the NAB Cup will say that he's still a dud as this was only a NAB Challenge match
Great to see, if he can carry some of that form into the season he will be miles ahead of schedule
-
LMAO at Peter Rhode's 3/4 time interview on radio - "we fully expect to run all over them in the last quarter" (or words to that effect). Any wonder the tosser got the sack from coaching. :wallywink
-
Port goal
92 - 89
23 mins gone
-
What a time for a radio to buffer out.
-
We're trying to maintain possession.

Nice one, that's the season kicked off. Tyrone Vickery, one small step for you, one giant leap for the rfc forward line :gotigers
-
Scoreboard on the buffer said we had won 15 7 97 to 13 11 89.
Who cares we won. :gotigers
-
Final Score
Richmond 1.1 7.4 10.6 15.8-98
Port Adel. 3.3 7.6 11.9 13.11-89
Goals: Vickery 5, Miller 2, Nahas 2, Cotchin, Martin, Houli, King, Graham, White
-
Don't think the last goal counted.
-
We're trying to maintain possession.
Taylor from 50 short pass..... Tigers goal :gotigers.... Whitey
98 - 89
so was this the end result. I was filling out some forms listening to greek radio watching the tiges. we kicked a goal did it count - the one at the end?
-
Commentators having giving Taylor a quick rap saying he has silk skills just like his old man, local knowledge i guess.
-
We're trying to maintain possession.
Taylor from 50 short pass..... Tigers goal :gotigers.... Whitey
98 - 89
so was this the end result. I was filling out some forms listening to greek radio watching the tiges. we kicked a goal did it count - the one at the end?
Umpire never waved his flags Ramps so I think not.
-
RFC saying Whitey's last goal didn't count as no one could hear the siren.
So final score is 14.8-92 to 13.11-89
Richmond players run over to the indigenous kids they know in the crowd :clapping. Kingy in the crowd on the wing.
-
Scoreboard finalised as 92 - 89.
Who cares we won :gotigers
Nice way to pay tribute to Mr Magic :bow
-
good stuff from vickery and miller
got tiges :gotigers :clapping
-
very good effort, they look gone late in the 3rd. terrific effort to have another go and get over the line.
-
Just some quick observations:
Makes a difference actually getting the ball into the forward 50 - 7 goals to our two big talls.
Vickery looked great and kicked well.
We targeted Houli for a reason and he was able to play that outside role and deliver to the forwards. Looked like he got a bit of it.
Cotchin is all class.
Nahas was lively.
-
Not bad music after the telecast too. ;D
-
Some excellent passages of play in that game tonight, good effort to come back and win. Vickery should get a nice confidence boost from that effort.
-
pretty much sums it up wayne.
Twice, somehow, we ran off half back with a line of three players clear which enabled quick movement up the guts.
Gotta love that football. :cheers
Why is it that under coaches like wallace and frawley the opposition didn't make 'silly' errors that cost goals? ::)
-
Not bad music after the telecast too. ;D
:thumbsup
Ivor's allright
-
Not bad music after the telecast too. ;D
And during the breaks as well. ;)
-
So great win and where are the Vickery knockers now.......so is he better than Schulz then..... I said in a previous thread that he just needed to click LIKE Riewoldt did, lets just hope this is the start... :thumbsup
-
:lol
I was happy with him but wait until he gets a kick in the real thing before saying he's better than a bloke who averages over 2 goals a game.
-
So great win and where are the Vickery knockers now.......so is he better than Schulz then..... I said in a previous thread that he just needed to click LIKE Riewoldt did, lets just hope this is the start... :thumbsup
No, lets dont get too carried away now. ::)
Wait till he kicks a bag in a real game, Shultz kicked 6 in a real game and he is no good, same as Cleve Hughes.

Not getting carried away thats why I said 'lets just hope this is the start". Doesn't hurt to give some credit where it's due though does it, regardless whether it's a practice match.

I am watching the replay of the games against Carlton and Collingwood at the moment and I really don't like what I see of Edwards. Now most will know he proved me wrong last year but gee. Never mind having a go at Vickery, I know its the first hit out but honestly......
How did he go yesterday, I hope he went better than I am watching now.

Im one of those knockers and that's a great effort.
Does it mean much. Probably not but the guy has to start somewhere and what better way to start the year.
I'd say he will be our Leigh brown type with Derickx our man ruck if Gus doesn't perform.
Can someone tell me if Derickx played. If so how did he go

Not sure overall, but he did a brilliant piece of evasive work and set up a goal at one stage.
-
Yeah, was quiet compared to last week, but didn't butcher it like he did a couple of times early last week and was quite creative on a couple of occasions.
Not sure how much game time got.

It's also still morning until 11:59am so give them a break, they have to deal with Telstra getting the content up
-
It's also been morning for over ten hours, RFCO is probably still on hold

promises, promises :nope

Just watched the game, thought Gus went really well actually, Houli, Cotch, Martin, Vickery, King, played very well. Edwards......please improve, costly turnovers again. Loved our run and carry, players running in packs, reminded me of 95 when we used to run like that.
-
Watch it again WAT and count the good things edwards does compared to the poor things. I think you will find the good easily outweigh the bad.

Yes Al, thank you I will. :lol

I thought overall we were fairly horrible with some good patches. Definitely need some more practice games.
Can't believe how many times our forwards play from behind.
-
I have an email from Champion Data for the NAB2 game.
It doesn't have stats, but has ranking points.
The Tigers got their man in Houli. He showed us last week that he will be a great pickup for any coach this season, starring on his Richmond debut against Port Adelaide in the NAB Challenge with 17 disposals and 92 points – the third-most of any Richmond player. The Tigers will give the ball to him at every opportunity and he’ll rack up some huge scores for you this year.
Notables:
Nahas 105
Vickery 95
Houli 92
Cotchin 80
Martin 77
Grigg 70
Foley 55
Conca 47

Good to see the 2 new recruits up there in the stats. Also good to see Foley up there with the notables after playing 2 and a bit quarters :thumbsup

Our forward line is still a work in progress and not even close to being settled especially with Jack missing. With the midfield dominance we had we should've won comfortably rather than coming from behind late into the final quarter. Our backline is still not right yet either given how we struggled to clear from our defensive 50 at times during last Friday night. Mind you there's nothing there we didn't already know having finished 15th last year. The main positive was we got through the game without any injuries.

It was interesting what the blokes commenting the game on the radio said about Hardwicks's coaching afterwards.
They said he got did a great job in getting the mix between giving youngsters a good run and getting the structures right.
The youngsters got game time, often in crucial positions yet he was still able to get the structures right when it counted to keep in touch and eventually win the game
