NAB Challenge 3
Richmond vs Adelaide
Friday, March 11, 4.00pm EST @ Visy Park
-
Crap! Will have to get off work. :P
-
Great news are far as it being in Melbourne so we don't have to travel. Adelaide's forward line will be weaker too with Tippett and Henderson missing. Taylor Walker will be their main tall target now.

-
I've got the day off. Looks like I'll trudge in!

5AA did a live broadcast yesterday of the Carlton-Adelaide game so they may do the same for our game next Friday for those who can't make it to the ground or find difficulty with the RFC stream freezing and cutting out.
-
Quality I'll leave work early and I'll go. :gotigers
-
That's dashed my hopes of them coming to play at Coffs Harbour :chuck
At least i won't get the pies :ROTFL

Tigers to tackle Crows
richmondfc.com.au
Mon 07 Mar, 2011
Richmond will take on Adelaide in its final hit-out before the opening round of the 2011 season.
The NAB Challenge clash will be held this Friday (March 11) at Visy Park, from 4pm.
The Tigers are expected to regain the services of captain Chris Newman, star forward Jack Riewoldt, and livewire Jake King for the match, which will be their last before the big season-opener against Carlton at the MCG on March 24.
Newman and Riewoldt have not played so far in the pre-season, while King missed last Friday night’s trial game against Hawthorn at Shepparton.

RFCO on the telecast this week:
"We're going to try and use Telstra this week, a more stable connection.
We know how to do a webcast, it mainly comes down to the internet capabilities at the venue."

Anyone know whether theres likely to be food and 'light refreshments' at the ground?
In the past it was in the Carlton social club but I'm not sure where that is now with the new training facilities and building at Princes Park at that end of the ground.

There's some food places near the former Jack Elliott stand that they've used in the past

Get your ar$3 to the sprog pit GG.
Its not that much further......
-
can't be done, davey has my splodge jacket on loan
-
Two full strength sides battling it out with little experimentation of players or positions so it should be a fair indicator where we sit. There will still be plenty of settling in for players as they get used to playing as units and with structures particularly in our case with our new forwardline particularly against a very strong and stable crows defence.
Should be a very interesting game

Speaking of which, I take offense at your comment on the Fev thread re Tanya Zanotta.
Just because she's a whore, doesn't mean she likes to eat from the bushy bowl..,
How very dare you >:(

Looks like the behaviour of all the kiddies on the ustream live chat last week may stop us having live online vision of the game tomorrow unless someone can come up with an alternative stream for RFCO .....
From BF:
Does anyone know how to remove chat from a Ustream page?
Some higher ups caught wind of the chat on the page last week that were rather offensive to opposition players and they said never again, seeing as we cant moderate it - which I can understand.
If not, does anyone know of a good radio streaming page? Struggling to find one.
Regardless we will still have qtr by qtr video with commentary on the website by the weekend.
-
Don't blame them. It was like reading BF all over again - even worse. Don't know why we had to have the juvenile chat crap with the video feed. Ah well, the actions of a few...........
-
It's great to be able to share it with everyone be a member or supporter but one way to avoid the moronic comments on the live chat is to make it only available to RFC members via a link on EOTT or something similar.
-
They've found a way to turn the ustream live chat off so once the quality of the stream from Princes Park is tested it should be all systems go.
According to the Crows forum 5AA is covering the game as well.

Just rested right?

Apparently they are 'happy with his match fitness' and are giving him the night off.
Time to squeeze in a kwik weights session, shower and then drive in.
For those also driving in, I'm told plenty of parking that time of day on Royal parade. 5-10 min walk.

5AA will have radio commentary (as biased as it is). Not sure about the RFC coverage.
-
Tambling on the ground at H/B.
5AA are calling us black & gold and carrying on about us having 9 coaches since the Crows started ::)
-
Vickery at FF; Jack at CHF.
2 Frees to Crows.
Rich 0
Adel 6
-
27 degrees
50m to Crows but they get a point.
Rich 0
Adel 7
-
Martin being tagged by Reilly.
Turnover by Edwards I think in the midfield.
Maric is dominating the ruck.
Taylor Walker goal.
We've been once inside 50
Rich 0
Adel 13
-
We got it forward but the Crows go coast to coast.
Rich 0
Adel 19
-
This is embarrassing :scream. One way traffic. We've had just 2 insides 50s and just 13 touches for the whole side.
Rich 0
Adel 25
-
Houli goes long and Jack gets the free despite 1 against 2. Goal :gotigers
Rich 6
Adel 25
-
Rance back to his old ways.
Macgune fumbling the ball each time he goes near it
Houli nice kick jack goal
6-25
-
Farmer hot mrs. What a nice looking bird I must say
-
Vickery gets it to King who does a dance around a Crow and spears a pass to Morton on the lead. Goal
Rich 12
Adel 25
-
Adelaide quick answer.
-
Crows get a easy clearance and goal with a Tiger touching the ball
Walker now going for his third on Astbury :-\ but thankfully misses
Rich 12
Adel 32
-
This commentary is killing me especially when Walker gets near it :banghead This is a good test for young Astbury. Walker 5 marks inside 50 in first quarter with time still left on the clock. We can't get the ball out of our backline. :help
-
Harsh free against us inside our forward 50 and the crows clear again. Astbury needs to be moved off Walker. 4 marks against him inside defensive 50.
Crows miss.
Rich 12
Adel 33
Q1 20 mins.
McGuane moved to Walker.
-
We seem hurried and panicked at the moment. Adelaide killing us. Maric having a great game.
-
5AA are whining about Nahas geta free for holding the ball when the same thing happens us 5 mins earlier ::)
Lids finds Edwards but grubber kick rolls out of bounds in the pocket.
Foley then kicks it forward but it's cut off.
I'm surprised the Crows aren't premiership favourites given they are full of champions according to 5AA :chuck.
-
Edwards pinged for holding the ball. Point to Crows.
Rich 12
Adel 34
-
Edwards will be lucky to play round 1 by the sounds of it.
-
Rance & Griggs done a few nice things.
Some glimpses team wide of brilliance but Adelaide well drilled.
When we click, well click big time.
-
I'm surprised the Crows aren't premiership favourites given they are full of champions according to 5AA :chuck.
It's excrutiating to listen to :chuck
Turnover and another Adelaide goal. :banghead
-
The commentors keep talking about Adelaides zone. I hope it falls apart on them soon.
Graham free from ruck but Douglas picks Gus's pocket and kicks a goal :banghead
-
Another dumb turnover :banghead
Rich 12
Adel 40
-
Free to Foley. Goes long. But fre to Crows and 50m.
5AA called Jack "ranga head" ::)
-
Saying Tambling has been playing fanatastically ::) Biased is terrible
-
Free to Adelaide off the ball and 50m
Tambling has had 6 possies. Goal to Thompson
Rich 12
Adel 46
-
Rabble performance so far. Same blokes who cant kick being played. Anyway what can you say. Just shizenhausen.
-
Saying Tambling has been playing fanatastically ::) Bias is terrible. Adelaide has free kick for goal. Siren.
-
Centre clearances: 3 - 6
Siren .... Quarter time.
Richmond 2.0-12
Adelaide 7.4-46
Goals: Riewoldt, Morton
Pathetic!
-
They're saying Riewoldt going off his nut, it's only a NAB challenge game "Ranga head", says 5AA who are commentating the game like it's an elimination final. ::)
-
I need a break from the commentary. :chuck
-
Saying Tambling has been playing fanatastically ::) Bias is terrible. Adelaide has free kick for goal. Siren.
Tambling getting treated the same way us fans treated him.
Gets a wrap for doing basic things like kicking and attacking a contest.
-
What a disaster
Tambling good riddons playing average but that Edwards is something else
He wouldn't get a game in most teams. Useless
To you lot who don't rate foley I can tell you he is better than all but 4 players in this team.
Houli :thumbsup if it weren't for him and foley we would be stuffed
-
Rance looking better in defense than last year.
Lids nice.
Geez our ricks jump early. Effectivly Giving away the contested ball from the start.
-
Cotchin not playing.
We are too slow getting the ball out of defence. Same old story. Our defenders can't think and execute quickly to break down a zone in a organised manner. So it's all made up on the hop. Our attack on the footy in the midfield has been second rate as well.
-
Am at the game. Umpires are disgraceful. Astbury, Connors and Edwards having shockers. Foley = gun.
-
Rance looking better in defense than last year.
Lids nice.
Geez our rucks jump early. Effectivly Giving away the contested ball from the start.
-
Crows attacks aagin. Richmond "fumbly". Gus too slow causes the turnover. Point.
Rich 12
Adel 47
-
Kick-in goes to the piocket and stalls ::). Turnover but we get it back.
Jack has had to come up to half-back to take a mark.
Nahas good tackles to Connors.
Who is on Doughety allowing him to peel off and be third man up.
Better pressure though from us ... Vickery to Naahs to Jackson but he bombs to it no one and Crows clear.
-
We can't maintain possession.
Crows goal :banghead
Rich 12
Adel 53
-
this is terrible. its a praccy match but its terrible.
-
Am at the game. Umpires are disgraceful. Astbury, Connors and Edwards having shockers. Foley = gun.
Missing Nason terribly :shh
-
long season looming if this is what our side dishes up in 2011.
-
One thing that still hasn't changed from the Wallace days is that we can't find space!!!
-
We are getting smashed out of the midfield.
Houli's pass it spoiled.
Lids get it back to White but he turns it over.
We get it back thanks to a good tackle but the kick forward is cut off.
Do we have a gameplan today? :help
We had about 10 possies just then to get it just to the wing and it's spoiled.
-
everything we do is rushed. all over the field just rushed and lacking poise. disappointing really.
-
Nahas to Martin to outer wing to King. It's start stop. To Batchelor to Houli who goes long and the Crows mark it on the goalline.
Crows with a couple of long kicks get a point.
Rich 12
Adel 54
-
NAHHHASSSS!!1
Here we come!!
:rollin
-
We actually get it forward to someone. Jack has a snap but it's out of bounds.
Bouncedown 20m out and Nahas snags the Maric tap and goals :gotigers
Rich 18
Adel 54
-
We all knew we are at least 1 maybe 2 clean outs to go.
-
We can't spread. Can see many situations where there's 4 of our players running together in the centre and we ignore them.
-
We all knew we are at least 1 maybe 2 clean outs to go.
this isnt about cleanouts, this is about our players having NFI in how to combat zones, how to create space. Its stuffen terrible.
-
We all knew we are at least 1 maybe 2 clean outs to go.
and time, we need time.
Astbury, Martin they're second year players.
Jackson, White and Edwards better start showing something though. Time is running out.
-
6 possies inside our defensive 50 then go long to a Crow and they have two kicks back over our heads for a OOTF.
Crows get it back. Thankfully they are making mistakes now.
Post goes to ground as we go forward and it's another turnover.
Lids to Jacko and he kicks it OOTF ::)
This is woeful :help
Free to Taylor Walker against Newy. Harsh free but they are outworking us. Point.
Rich 18
Adel 55
-
When does free agency come in. Its the only hope richmond has of ever doing anything. This is garbage whats going on.
-
Maybe we should have requested a practice match against GWS. Might have had a chance to win. :help
-
We know how to make average opposition players look like champions don't we :banghead.
Rich 18
Adel 66
-
Grigg goal :gotigers
Rich 24
Adel 66
-
The only way we are getting goals is from the ball going over the back as we kick it forward. We can;t take a mark because the ball coming in is too cslow and just in hope.
-
Jacko out of defence to Vickery who gets the free over ot Rance to McGuane on the other sidd o the gorund. Conca falls over but gets up to Grigg to Edwards who finds Newy. A spear pass to 50m out to Post. Goal :gotigers
Rich 30
Adel 66
-
Free to Foley in the centre. Jack goes the leap but misses it. Martin very good to Helbig who kicks a point.
Rich 31
Adel 66
-
Oh have a sook. You've had a dream ride from the umps today ::)
-
We got it forward again in this nice 5 minute run but the Crows go coast to coast. Point.
Rich 31
Adel 67
-
We have probly got lucky with Tippett not playing today.
C'mon tigers lets make a game out of it from now to the end of the game.
-
Heard a bit of Helbig late in the quarter. Good signs.
-
Half-time
Richmond 2.0 5.1-31
Adelaide 7.4 10.7-67
Goals: Riewoldt, Morton, Nahas, Grigg, Post
-
We have probly got lucky with Tippett not playing today.
C'mon tigers lets make a game out of it from now to the end of the game.
Whats the point of making a game of it. It will only hide the reality of what we're seeing. I get the feeling the crows have taken the foot of the pedal anyway. We have no idea on zones, no idea on creating space, if we play like this against carlton we'll lose by 12 goals easy.
-
That last bit of play sums us up. 6 possies to zig zag across the ground across half-back without going forward :-\.
Lids has done well on Porplyzia.
Nahas looking lively with his tackling.
Martin and Foley lifted in that quarter.
Newy lifted as well.
McGaune, Jackson, Edwards know how to turn it over :P
-
whos been playing well?
-
whos been playing well?
Adelaide.
-
McGaune, Jackson, Edwards know how to turn it over :P
None of em should play r1, jackson is a nothing player a tagger at best. hes better when he doesnt get the footy. edwards gone backwards at a rate of knots from last years efforts and mcguane ... what can you say. Its just dreadful what we're seeing.
-
whos been playing well?
Adelaide.
:lol
Grigg apparently leading the DT points with 67.
Foley has 56
-
Foley would be up there in dt points
-
I'm surprised the Crows aren't premiership favourites given they are full of champions according to 5AA :chuck.
:lol
I've tried to a couple of times to put up with them :nope
Not too bad at half time while they give their dicks a rest though
-
We have probly got lucky with Tippett not playing today.

Opposition sides run to spots harder and so get to the space before we do. We are just too slow moving the ball. Most of our defenders need think music to work out what to do next and that allows the opposition to set up their zone.
-
Adelaide leading inside 50 count 35 - 17 :help.
As a result Astbury (63 DT points) and Rance (56 DT) have had a lot of the ball.
Mitch Morton on 35 DT points with four disposals at half-time - has played mainly from half forward -
# Half-time at VISY - Grigg has a game-high 67 DT points and Walker leads #supercoach points with 87. 15 minutes ago via web
N. Foley has 56 DT points at half-time - ranked fourth in the game at half-time. 16 minutes ago via web
taylor walker has 2 goals in first qtr vs Tigers - 55 SC points & 37 DT points at qtr-time.

"Tambling's best hour of footy with the Crows" .... It's Tambling's only hour of footy for Adelaide you idiots :rollin.
-
Lids to King hands to Moerton to Martin ... and Nahas point
Rich 32
Adel 67
-
Crows go coast to coast,. Point
Rich 32
Adel 68
WP at the ground said 1st qtr pathetic but 2nd qtr much better.
-
"Tambling's best hour of footy with the Crows" .... It's Tambling's only hour of footy for Adelaide you idiots :rollin.
LOL ;D
-
White chops it off to Jack on the wing but Rutten smothers it before he could get it to Nahas.
Turnover gives the Crows a shot. Point
Rich 32
Adel 69
-
From the Kick-in the ball is turned over again :banghead
Rich 32
Adel 70
-
Another turnover as we go forward ::)
Lids gets it back to Houli. Could have been a free to us but the ump says no- turnover - and the Walker has it again.
Rich 32
Adel 76
-
Jeepers Gee Wilekers - Best ignore this too.
-
How have essendon in the nab cup shown that they have an understanding of whats required in terms of zones, pressure, running into space and our boys havent got a stuffen clue. Its just deplorable.
-
Foley off with the blood rule.
Jacko takes the free in the centre. Insdei 50. Ball out of bounds 20m out. Crows clear and get it forward for another shot on goal
Houli saves the day on the goalline. Gets to Grigg back to Houli long to Jack. Better build up and Vickery marks at 40m out. Point
Rich 33
Adel 76
-
Thompson run down. Free but it's a point.
Rich 34
Adel 76
-
We get the turnover. Martin to Jacko long and Jack marks. Goal :gotigers
Rich 40
Adel 76
-
Foley out of the centre and short to Nahas 45m out. Doesn't make the distance ::)
-
King gives away 50m. Point to Adelaide
Rich 40
Adel 77
-
Because Im not watching it can someone tell me if Batchelor is playing?
-
Foley to Martin inside 50. Jack couldn't mark. Crows clear.
Grigg at HB. Post marks back to Houli and slow play means Batchelor is pinged for holding the ball.
White gets the free back for holding the ball against Knights. To Lids back to WHite , Nahas inside 50 and it's OOTF (Vickery marked over the line)
Crows go coast to coast. Point
Rich 40
Adel 78
-
Yep Batchelor is playing Ramps.
Foley through the centre to Houli who finds Helbig inside 50. Rushed.
Rich 41
Adel 78
-
I may try the ustream and have a look at whats going on. dont think Im gonna be impressed by any stretch of the imagination.
-
Crows clear but Rance marks at HB. Over to Post and finds Jacko (sun in eyes) handballs under pressure to Martin who is pinged trying to break through 3 Crows.
White gets the ball back but tries to weave past one too many. Ball ends up as a thrown-in deep in our defence.
McGanue to Grigg out of defence. Pass is Spoiled and the Crows go forward. Ball-up 30m out.
Quick snap by Adelaide. point.
Rich 41
Adel 79
-
Astbury up forward now.
We got it forward but Crows clear.
We now clear via Rance to Lids to Morton. Outer side to Conca handablsl to Rancd at HB to Mrton to Foley but has no one to give it to. Astbury now to Conca and Jack goes for a speckie. Crows clear.
But Edwards at HB gets the free. To Helbig to Mortno to King handballs to Grigg but the kick is poor. Naahs gets it to Post and goals :gotigers.
Rich 47
Adel 79
-
2.4 to 1.6 this qtr.
-
Make than 3.4 thsi qtr
McGaune out of defence to Morton on the wing to Vickery at HF. Grigg gets it goes insdie 50. Scramble for the ball and Free to Edwards. Goal :gotigers
Rich 53
Adel 79
-
Morton to Helbig and goes long ... touched
3/4 time
Richmond 2.0 5.1 8.6-54
Adelaide 7.4 10.7 11.13-79
-
6.6 to 4.9 after quarter time.
-
Goals: Riewoldt 2, Post 2, Nahas, Morton, Grigg, Edwards
RFCO:
Post, Grigg, Riewoldt, Vickery, Graham best so far [ surely you'd have Foley and Martin in there as well]
Honestly, Richmond. Better conversion and reduced the margin
Vickery Looked good around the ground, marked strong, been a good lead up option
Helbig - Great pressure up forward and bobbed up for a mark
-
Crows get first clearance and goal of last qtr :P
Rich 54
Adel 85
-
S. Grigg has a game-high 98 DT points with 20 disposals from just one contested possession.
Free against Jacko after the 3rd ball-up and Walker ends up with it and goals.
Rich 54
Adel 91
Looks like Adelaide has woken up :-\
-
helbig probably booked his place in r1 v carlton.
-
Martin weaves through traffic to Edwards to Jacko finds King at HB back Jacko (goes one handed). Free for "ducking". Lids goes inside 50 but the Crwos clear. But good tackling isn't rewarded and it's a ball-up at HF. Jacko gets a kick into Symes' head ... crows clear
Dea gets it to Edwards ... throw-in and now ball-up
Dea at HB over to Lids and finds Morton on the wing. High ball forward. Ball-up 20m out. Crows clear and the transition ends up with a shot at goal for Adelaide.
Rich 54
Adel 97
Scoreboard blowing out again now.
-
helbig probably booked his place in r1 v carlton.
We might as well use this year as another to get games into the cubs. We're a bottom 4 side.
-
Throw-in deep in Adelaide's forward line, White to Newy to Lids and mark to Jack but he has no one to give to. Houli cops a push in the back and no free. Crows stuff a chance and we get it but cough it straight back. Ends up a ball-up. Foley great work and the ball ends up with Post ..goes inside 50. Crows clear and it gets to Walker who kicks his 7th :P
Rich 54

Rance to McGiane to Nahas at HB but all Crows on the wing. White get it back at HB to Morton but he's tackled. McGaune now to Edwards long to Nahas who takes 4 bounces long inside 50 but it's spoiled out of bounces 20m out. Foley to King but coughs it up. Crows clear and McGaune at HB over to Nahas who finds Jack. Goes long. Jacko tackled. Crows clear again. White clears at Hb to McGuane to Jacko around the body shocking kick. It's a end to end merry-go-round but the Crows once again eventually find a mark inside 50. Point

It's only a practice match but still that was pathetic! We were lucky if we were competitive for about a quarter and a half today.
Hard to find positives :-\. Foley showed some good ballwinning signs through the centre in the middle quarters coming back from two injury interrupted years and Helbig showing glimpses as well that may get him a round 1 gig on the bench.
We still have too many slow (both in mind and body) and poorly skilled players but it's nothing we didn't know already :-\.

PATHETIC
-
cant remember the ball going inside F 50 in the last quarter. :banghead
Very very poor for an AFL Club.
No ball transit, no overlap.
game plan seems to have changed from last year.
very predictable today which allowed Adelaide to manufacture turnovers.
-
I dont think we should dwell on this game.
Im more looking to see how they bounce back and perform in round 1.

what is the game plan by the way, have we moved on from hawthorn circa 2008 coz they have ::)
-
Question for anyone who attended today's game: how would you rate Tambling's game?
-
game plan seems too high risk thus the amount of turnovers.
we seem to use lateral outriders all the time thus kicking across the ground instead of down the lines.
We are poor at navigating opposition zones
-

Reasonably played off HB. Good disposal today linked up really well with Johncock a few times.
-
So who didn't play?
Cotch, Derickx and ...
-
Tuck, Moore, Farmer, Thursfield, Gourdis, Taylor, Nason, Webberley, Contin, Grimes

Tuck, Moore, Farmer, Thursfield, Gourdis, Taylor, Nason, Webberley, Contin, Grimes
Wouldnt think any named above would get a game at a top 8 club

That's nice. We're talking about OUR club, jack.
Tuck, Moore, Gourdis, Taylor, Nason are in our best 22

Tuck, Moore, Farmer, Thursfield, Gourdis, Taylor, Nason, Webberley, Contin, Grimes
That dont make me feel any better about this as a practice game. Going to be a long year I fear

Tuck, Nason, Derickx, Cotchin and Moore, the rest arent best 22

What i witnessed today is it's going to be a lonnnng season.
Who will help Jack???????
Houli will be good. Finally a good selection.
Foley good today but dear ooh me how embrassing the rest.
I like helbig should play Rd 1.
Dusty gun
Nahas. I want to smash this little prick I mean seriously how many times can u fall to ground.
Mcguane. Dumb footballer. If his in our best 22 we are screwed.
Graham. Lol
Facts are we have an average list still
-
Look, I thought it was ok from a perspective of a developing list.
There were some patches in quarters which when we string together in future we will kick 5 goals unanswered.
Foley's second half was awesome. Planet swallowing devastation. He is so hungry. He wants payback from the footy gods and he ain't stopping for poo.
Griggs was good as was you could hope for. Houli was Sharp. Lids was good. I think Rance has improve out of sight. Batchelor looks like he's been in our back lime for 5 years. Very settled.
Post should play round 1 no question. 2 goals and some nice ruck work. Involved in play.
And poo me, why do our rucks jump so early? It can't be that hard, but if we don't get it right by round 1, we are going to give away possession nearly every centre bounce.
The rest were ok to very average. Most of the rest did some nice things, but seemed out of their depth in general play. we struggle to move the ball quick, and when we do, we rely on their errors to keep moving it forward.
My real concern is on the defense. It appeared to be 1 on 1 today, and I don't know if that's the main setup planned for the year, but a) if it is we are going to struggle and b) if not, thank god, and we better know how to mind space.
-

I wouldnt say that...moore perhaps, the others would be lucky to get a guernsey R 1 ..TT maybe

Sorry, but a fit K.Moore would be the only one to get a game in a top 8 team.
Tuck was offered as trade 14 months agao with no takers.

Did you notice how hard it was for us to get centre clearances without him?
-
I agree with Jack in terms of Tuck but without him and Cotchin in the middle we smashed in the clearances. Moore and Thursfield would have also been handy on some of their larger forwards. Despite how quickly he has come on and his superior ball use and decision-making skills, Astbury is still undersized for a key position backman. Not sure if Derickx has the rucking skills or knowledge yet to take the No 1 spot yet. I feel he has more natural ability but I doubt whether he would have made much of a difference in this embarrassment.

So are we looking for debut games for Conca, Batch and Derickx and Helbig - 4 newbies with 0 games experience. Also Grigg and Houli will probably play so that makes 6 newbies for r1.

I can't see Derickx getting a gig after not playing in the previous two practice matches. One of those kids will probably be the sub at best, I can't see us taking 3 debutants into round 1 this year, maybe, but I doubt it.

they'd be an upgrade on graham, white, connors and nahas for a start

You know something Tony, Ive reached the stage where Its just better to get rid of blokes who cant kick or kill us with turnovers and just play the kids. Id play the 4 debutants. Not because it gives the best chance, but because theres no point in playing some other blokes who are just leading us back to the dead end street.

Correct
We fall in love with players who couldnt get a game at other clubs
Really guys like Nahas are clearly not up to it.
Either is Rance
-
The lack of energy in the first part of the game, the lack of abilty to stop the flow of Adelaide goals was shocking
-
and we aint going to win many games with the likes of Nahas and Rance

Jackson isnt much better IMHO. He should only be used to tag out opponents nothing more. Just kills us with the use of the footy.
-
Rance will definatly play round 1. It's clear he's on the upward curve, so the club, despite his disposal concerns, won't be looking to drop him. If there's a player in him, the next month will be time the he will be most likely to show it.
Post will also play, prob rotating ff with vickery. I liked him at hff yesterday. I could actually see him playing CHF with riewoldt at ff. Then play vicks/grif in a pocket. Let's see how the season unfolds.
Jackson will play as he is our only premium tagger. Just has to handball more and kick less.
Ill tell who you I think doesn't deserve a game, based on yesterday's performance and what I have seen over the last 4 weeks:
Mcguane. White. Nahas. Edwards. Graham.
These players have the least weapons in their armourment. All can't kick, but the middle 3 are in their side for their run and speed.
I'd sub the middle 3 for cotch, conca, nason.
Geez it would be good to get a fit gourdis back for mcguane. Derrickx for Gus.
Gus jumps too early at centre bounces. Killed us and our hard ball getters.
-
when Gus is cold he is deplorable, to allow moran to dominate is a genuine worry...i wouldn't dismiss X man debuting for a minute...I dont think Conc will start...more likely Batch, possibly Helbig going on reports and X
-
Batch looks like he has been playing half back at afl level for 4-5 years. Wasn't overly in play yesterday, but when he was, was very confident, clean and did a solid defensive job. Plenty to work with there. Potential to be a very good player. could be interesting if we trial him as an outside wing/half.
Compare him to match farmer, who I sense won't get any better.
Probably a toss between conc and helbig.
-
I wasn't at the game yesterday but how does a nearly full strength side with 6 top 10 draft picks get beaten by a travelling interstate, middle of the ladder side, by more than 10 goals with there best forward out, in the last hit out before the opening round of the season!?????
Just not good enough!
Our development of our young players (and that's most of them) is just so far behind all clubs it makes me nervous that maybe our great hope is just not upto it! (DH)
All most of us want to see is SOME improvement in the way we move and use the ball. I went to Shep last week and if last nights game was like that, then we have gone backward even for the TW days!!!! I hated Terry (as Stripes will attest to) but with him as coach, at least the ball moved with some sort of purpose!!!
I was watching Foxtel the other night and Melbourne and Freeo were playing about round 20 in the 2009 season, and it was almost a fight for the wooden spoon. (Melbourne ended up last that year and Freeo third last) Then the following year Freeo come out and play finals, but not only play finals, they were in the top 4 most of the year! How does a club turn it around so quick and we just don't seem to improve year after year, whoever the coach is?
Essendon seem to have done it this year, i know it's early, but just the way they move the ball from one end of the ground to the other is just so far ahead of us it's not funny.
-
Hardwick is a young coach. He will make mistakes over the journey, but I will continue to back him 100%. I dont necessarily agree with him on players like Jackson et al. but he is the coach, what we're all hearing is that he was stripping the paint of the dressing room walls after the match, so its obvious he was disgusted, like we all were with what he was seeing. One more thing that we shouldnt forget is that he has only coached 22 senior games. Theres a long way to go, yet in those 22 games, he has sent a couple of dozen players packing, he has seen the list accrue players like Martin and Astbury and this years crop including the likes of Conca, Batchelor, Helbig and Derrickx look ok. I think we should stick with the coach this time around, hes shown that he wont cop poo and players who dont perform will be shown the door. Thats more than what weve seen from alot of coaches over the last 20 years or so.

its development BT. i look at Edwards and shake my head. He has been in the system yet still looks the same as when he arrived all those years ago.
Bag me all you like but he wont play any part in our premiership team, whenever that is. Average footballer
There are only a few players who have got better in the last 5 years and thats worrying. Foot skills same now as they were under Wallet and anyone else. Very average. Jackson is rubbish. Jobe watson cant kick either yet has the skill and poise to handball through traffic. Jackson thinks he is above everyone and maybe he should stick to the media cause he aint much chop at kicking.
Look at Dale Thomas skinny as but gee what a tackler. He is unbelievable at it. Jarrod Blair, Leon Davis. Yet we have Edwards, Nahas and Nason :banghead :banghead :banghead
We cant play Nahas anymore. He is bordering on embarassing that bloke.
When the pressure is on our foot skills are there for all to see. When we play the Pies etc etc watch out.
Scary thing is foot skills wont improve much when they are established footballers so why the hell do we persist with players like Mcguane with his one handed grabs at the ball and Nahas who go to ground almost every time.
