This is a true reflection of where we are at: beaten by 13 goals by a team missing 10 of its players.

If they were there we would have lost by a good 25 goals.

 >:(   >:(  >:(  >:(  >:(

Just got back from Bells Hotel in South Melbourne after that disgraceful, spineless and weak "performance"  >:( . Geez I'm glad I went to witness 3 hours of crap ::). I don't know how we played worst than the Adelaide game but we did  :o. One bloody goal in a half of footy. Pitiful!

The first 10-15 minutes was an arm wrestle and we had a couple of chances through Brown and Otto to get off to a good start but fluffed them. Once Port got their first it was "oh oh" time and when they got their second straight after we were gone. There was no run, no desperation, no hunger. Nothing! We were second to the ball and were always outnumbered at contests. When we did get our hands on the ball we either just softly coughed it up or we couldn't hit a target to save our lives.  We could only beat them man-on-man but there was no accountability whatsoever. Just plain pathetic and SOFT! >:(.

How can you go from one week not missing a target to missing every one?! We are one mentally soft side.

Speaking of new awards, this week's dud who Richmond make look like an absolute champion is Port's Josh Mahoney. "Veteran" VFA player with Williamstown who only cracked it onto an AFL list this year as a back-up midfielder.

I just hope Port used that KY Jelly!!

could see this a mile away after port had their pants pulled down last week.

its a real shame that our club is a middle of the road team, I know im a broken record but we cant continually expect to get anywhere in this uneven competition by winning more than 5.5 games a year.

we are better off losing all out matches for the year and build a list for the future.

Yes.........as expected - we bent over and didn't make a whimper.

We've got too many dumb unskilled players in this side and it should not surprise anyone that such performances occur all too often.  There is only a handful of players worth persisting with and the rest can apply at the Moscow Circus.  The new coach will have a nightmare with these brain dead imposters.

Pleased to note that the AFL are going to look into that idiot Hardwich having a go at the Richmond runner.  What the ....?   Did someone forget to tell him that Port were actually winning?  The Richmond runner was nowhere near Hardwick, in fact running in the opposite direction.  Also the Burgoyne boy for kicking Hyde.

Collision has Hardwick on run
24 May 2004   Herald Sun

PORT Adelaide's Damien Hardwick will come under scrutiny after colliding with a Richmond runner on Saturday night.

The umpires' observer will lodge an incident referral notice with the AFL today for video reports officer Ian Robinson.

It's likely Hardwick will be summoned to the AFL Tribunal this week to face a charge of interfering with an official.

A member of Essendon's 2000 premiership team, the tough defender clashed with Tiger runner Matthew Hornsby late in the last quarter at AAMI Stadium.

Hornsby, who shares runner duties with Dale Weightman, found himself close to a pack of milling players, including Hardwick, while delivering a message for coach Danny Frawley.

It's unclear whether words were exchanged before Hornsby ran off, pursued by Hardwick.

Videotape of the game showed Hardwick sprint about 15m and deliver a solid bump with his shoulder to the back of the unsuspecting runner.

Hornsby stumbled but kept his feet, glancing back in surprise before jogging to the interchange bench.

Kangaroos pair David King and Anthony Stevens were the last players to be in trouble for clashes with rival team officials.

King was suspended for one match for interfering with a Collingwood runner in the 2001 pre-season competition, while Stevens received a $3500 fine following a clash with the Magpie doctor during the same game.

Forward Peter Burgoyne is another Port Adelaide player expected to be asked to explain his actions to the tribunal this week.

A down-the-ground camera caught Burgoyne kneeing Richmond's Chris Hyde in a behind-the-play incident.

Burgoyne, among the early-season contenders for the Brownlow Medal, raised his left knee and appeared to make contact with the back of Hyde's right leg, above the knee.

I appreaciate the video reporting system is 2004 is joke at best but if Burgoyne doesn't get sited for this them is something seriously wrong. Why Hyde didn't get a free kick with the field umpire staring at the 2 players is staggering to say the least >:(

It was mentioned tonight that Burgoyne has been cited on video for kneeing Hyde. Too bad the umps couldn't see it when it happened right in front of their eyes  ::)

Hardwick booked

Port Adelaide defender Damien Hardwick will face the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday night after just one week back in the side after being booked on a video charge.

Hardwick will front the tribunal on Tuesday night on a misconduct charge laid by AFL Investigations Officer Rick Lewis in that he made unnecessary and unreasonable contact with the Richmond runner Matt Horsnby during the clash with the Tigers on Friday night.

The former Essendon player had an interrupted pre-season because of knee surgery and his return to the senior side was delayed further by an ankle injury early in the season.

Port Adelaide defender Damien Hardwick was fined $1500 by the AFL Tribunal on Tuesday for making contact with a Richmond runner.

But team mate Peter Burgoyne, who pleaded guilty to a charge of kneeing Chris Hyde, will miss games against Geelong and the Brisbane Lions after copping a two-match ban.

Hardwick pleaded not guilty to the charge, laid by the league’s investigation’s officer Rick Lewis, with his advocate citing a ‘verbal barrage’ from the runner as provocation.

Video footage of the final-quarter incident showed Hardwick pushing the Tigers runner in the back with his left shoulder as he made his way from the centre square.

“The situation wouldn’t have happened if he didn’t open his mouth. When he opened his mouth and abused me, he became part of the game,” Hardwick said while giving evidence.

“If a player said that to me, I’m going to remonstrate, if a man on the street said that to me, I’d remonstrate, if the Prime Minister of Australia said that to me I’d remonstrate.”

“It doesn’t give the runner the right to verbalise me just because he’s wearing a green uniform.”

He also said he felt the contact was minimal and was surprised it had received so much attention.

Tribunal chairman Brian Collis, QC, found Hardwick did make unnecessary and unreasonable contact with the runner, but described it as contact without any real force.

“Whatever be the situation of who said what to whom, we accept Damien Hardwick’s belief that something unacceptable was said,” Collis said.

“(But) players are there to play football and runners are there to deliver messages.”

In the Burgoyne case, Collis described Burgoyne’s actions, a short, sharp knee to Hyde’s right leg as the pair jostled before a centre bounce, as completely unnecessary.

“I know what I did was wrong,” Burgoyne said while explaining to the Tribunal he was trying to stop Hyde from making contact with his left side, which was heavily padded due to a significant contusion of the buttock sustained against the Kangaroos two weeks ago.

Power coach Mark Williams was also called, telling the Tribunal he was helping Burgoyne come to terms with the close-checking opponents he now attracts due to an increased role in the midfield.

But he also conceded that in this instance, Burgoyne didn’t handle the situation in the perfect manner and reacted poorly.

I don't care if Matt Hornsby did say something to Hardwick, the fact is that Hardwick deliberately went out of his way to make contact with the Richmond runner who had his back to him and moved away from the area of conflict.  Let's face it, Port was winning - there was no need to continue the argument or make the point.  Derek Humphrey-whatever said on White Line Fever that Hardwick was lucky not to get a week.  Hardwick should have been dragged by his coach for this indiscretion.  It was nothing more than an act of thuggery.

Fool! If you did to the Prime Minister what you did to the runner - I think you'd end up with 1) face down on the ground with security pointing guns at you and 2) then in jail

Tiger runner faces fine

Richmond runner Matt Hornsby is expected to be fined by the AFL over his role in the Damien Hardwick tribunal case.

Hardwick was fined $1500 by the tribunal on Tuesday night after being found guilty of making contact with the Richmond runner.
Hornsby, a runner with experience at three AFL clubs, was running away from a tangle between Hardwick and Richmond’s Andrew Kellaway when the Port defender ran at him and pushed him to the side as he was leaving the field.

Hardwick told the tribunal he had reacted to a taunt from Hornsby, whom he alleged called him “a d**khead.”

However the Richmond runner said he had directed his comments at his own player in telling him not to become involved in a scuffle with Hardwick.

The AFL is expected to announce the extent of Hornsby’s fine by Thursday morning, however the Richmond runner is expected to be able to perform his duties in Saturday’s clash against West Coast in Perth.

Tigers fined $5000 over runner
27 May, 2004
Sportal
The Richmond Football Club has been fined $5000 for runner Matt Hornsby's involvement with an on-field incident with Port Adelaide's Damien Hardwick during last Saturday night's match at AAMI Stadium.

AFL football operations manager Adrian Anderson said AFL Investigations Officer Rick Lewis found that the situation was inflamed by the runner's unnecessary verbal expressions.

Lewis determined that: "The runner speaks in degrading terms regarding Hardwick and appears to follow Hardwick as Hardwick retreats after being free-kicked".
A maximum sanction of $5000 has been imposed for a first offence and a suspension or a sanction of up to $10,000 may apply for any further breach.

"Runners have a responsibility to deliver messages in an appropriate manner, then get off the field straight away," Anderson said.
