I was watching "The Winners with Flares" last night and they were showing a game from 1986 where we lost by 101 points and as a result I present this "Who am I?"
I wore number 18 in 1986 and in the above mentioned game Doug Heyward said I played very well in the backline :-\
Anyone know who I might be?

I automatically thought of Phillip Walsh, he might have gone to Brisbane by 1986 though. Not likely him, he only played well against us not for us. :-[
Neil Peart? Another Collingwood "trade war" player. >:( (not mad at Peart, just the trade war)

I'd go with FF and say Walsh as well as the Bears first year was 87.

Thanks for the chance to exorcise the ghost of Phillip Walsh.
1984 round 2 Phillip Walsh plays first game for Collingwood.
1984 rounds 3-7 Phillip Walsh does enough to raise eyebrows.
1984 round 8 AGAINST RICHMOND Phillip Walsh burns off 3 opponents, gathers 16 kicks, delivers some clever assists, and Jack Dyer tells Ian Major he likes the look of this young feller.
1984 rounds 9-17 Phillip Walsh plays okay, averages 6 kicks a game.
1984 round 18 Phillip Walsh gets 12 kicks, blankets Micky Conlan, and kicks a goal. Speculation mounts that Walsh might be "ready"
1984 round 19 AGAINST RICHMOND Phillip Walsh burns off 3 opponents, gathers 26 kicks, and inspires teammates with courage and maturity. In the last quarter he creates "theatre" by sprinting around the wing, baulking 4 opponents (including The Ghost) and kicking a long raking goal that later features in a play-of-the-year, goal-of-the-year rookie-of-the-year Channel Seven "Season '84" highlights montage.
1984 rounds 20-22 Phillip Walsh plays okay, average 6 kicks.
1984 end of year Phillip walsh wins Rising Star award, thanks to swag of votes earned against Richmond in rounds 8 and 19.
1985 Richmond buys Phillip Walsh. [Ed. We payed $110,000 for Walsh and got 40 games out of him. Out of interest we payed $175,000 for Terry Wallace for a return of 11 games. Given our turnover in those days was only around $2-3 million, no wonder we went broke! :banghead]
1985 Season Phillip Walsh struggles. Finally dropped after being held kickless by Neil Peart. Plays in the twos and is eventually released to Brisbane.
1986 Richmond buys Neil Peart.
OTHER GOOD ORDINARY PLAYERS TO STAR AGAINST RICHMOND Anyone given a crack at full-forward between 1986 and 1993.

If Walsh was still at the club in 1986 then it is him. I think Peart may have had a number in the 30's anyway. Unlike Walsh, he was a decent "poach".
Just on the channel 2 commentators, 20 years on I reckon I still know more of the players in those games than they did at the time. I used to prefer them to ch7 but realise now that most of them were shockers.

LOL FF. About the only thing I remember from 1986 is being in the rooms at the Western Oval and watching the game from the race with us needing to win to stay in the finals race. We of course lost :(.
McCormack was about the only Pie to break even in the 80 GF. Probably another player we recruited based on him playing well against us :P.

I don't think Williams actually played a game for us Moi. That was a dirty act for us to pick him up from memory. I don't recall the exact circumstances but I think he hurt his knee at the end of a season, Melbourne dropped him from their list while he recovered with the intention of putting him back later except we swooped. He was very unhappy.
Melbourne trades, second only to Collingwood. Strawbs O'Dwyer, Aaaahhhhhh! Chris Sullivan, Aaaahhhhhh!

So who's Scott Sutcliffe ??? Born 1963 - from Clarence in Tasmania. He played 7 games for Melbourne 1982-83 and kicked 2 goals. He joined the Tigers in 1986 and played 2 games. And at the end of 1986 he was gone and it would seem he he isn't to well remembered ;D

Well...if its any consolation...I am Tasmanian, have followed the Tiges for over 30 years, live in the City of Clarence, ( a Hobart suburb more like)...1 km from Clarence football club's home ground i.e. Bellerive Oval, and I never heard of him either!!!!!!! hahahahaaa For goodness sake he isnt even related to me...you sure he's Tasmanian? pmsl
