Title: The ferals have won.
Post by: 1965 on August 31, 2011, 10:09:12 AM
Dear all

Well the ferals have indeed won.

The nature of this site as changed too much for my likings.

I am going on a self-enforced sabbitical.

I have enjoyed the last five years.

'65

Mods, this post breaks none of your "rules" so you should be able to leave it up.

I have to say that I find myself less interested in posting on the site than I have in years. Seems less informed debate going on and more attempts at crude humour and negative rants. Plenty of threads filled with pointless character assassination, personal insults and smutty jokes rather than discussion about the club I rarely see MT post now days either. Not sure what exactly has happened but I share your concern 1965.

I hope it changes but I'm not confident.

Bye, you won't be missed. You added nothing to this site in terms of football discussion. You posts were not funny, your jokes sucked. You posted more on politics then football

Stripes, this site has always had negative rants, personal insults and smutty jokes at times. I have seen some of the most negative Richmond rants take place on here but IDGAF. Everyone is entilted to their opinion. That is what's great about this place.....you don't get your posts edited for saying a player is a bit "soft" or when you say Craig Cameron is a dud ;D People don't have to kiss ass and talk up the club just because some others do. If they're repetitive with their bagging then it's pretty effing annoying but it is their right to post that way.

Agreed 1965.

It's the reason I exited PRE a few years ago, and it's the reason I don't put much store in online forums anymore. They have become places for morons to vent their ill-educated spleens and pump themselves up.

Your tearing me apart, what will we do without your humorless miserable presence to cheer us up with your constant chides ?
The attempt by a little spiteful group of you to 'haunt' us has been the truly childish antics and this melodramatic flourish just makes me think your a teenage girl who watches too much stuffing vampire soap.

Lighten up FFS. Do you leave the footy because someone next to you is talking crap? I have been on OER for over 6 years and love this place. I like the mix of footy discussion, heated debate, humourous responses and the good mix of footy and non footy related threads.
I like the fact that people are allowed to express themselves and vent their frustrations unlike at Stalag Pie Van where you get taken to "Ze Cooler" for questioning anyone's opinions. IMO Personal insults are dealt with well by our Mods and plenty of snipping goes on to keep some sense of social order.

Anyway if you are going to leave, then leave. Just don't let the door hit you on the ass on the way out.

I agree with 1965, standard of a lot of the posts are absolute rubbish, a lot of crudeness, not a lot of humour. Bit of a shame really, a lot of hard work has gone in to making this site more pleasant to visit than big footy

LMAO that a few people think this site has gone downhill from such 'gentlemanly' high standards....

Last time I looked at the posting guidelines thread, there's been only one 'tone it down' communal post from the mods in the last 15 months. This compares to 7 in 2007 alone, 3 in 2008 and 2 in 2010.....

I rarely see MT post now days either.
Just been busy Stripes so free time on the forum is spent mostly as a mod. Plus this time of the footy year drags on a little bit with our season long over. I don't get too excited by late season wins. I'll be more interested in the trade/draft period as that's more crucial to our future  :thumbsup. We always seem better as a side during the offseason when there's no onfield reality to face ;D.

Hope always springs eternal when he look towards the trade period and then the draft. Gets us out to November. Does anybody know if the practice game between us and Essendon overseas is gonna happen?

Firstly there have been a number of reminders in other threads outside the one you've highlighted DD about the crude "schoolyard tiolet" humour

On top of that we have dealt directly with a number of people over this issue  ;)

But that aside as i said originally some interesting feedback on this thread  ;D

Ever since I have been here there's been plenty of reminders about posting within the rules. Posters playing up a bit didn't start this year like 1965 has basically said. Personally, I think 65 only disliked us because Gerks made him look like a muppet at one stage last year. Have a look ;D http://oneeyed-richmond.com/forum/index.php?topic=10401.msg203156#msg203156

That is the first time old Gerkin came in contact with 65. Interesting to note that 65 broke a rule too ;D

I guess if you are constantly correcting people's speilling and grandma, your kinda going to make yourself a bit of a target. In 65's case, the microbes began to take over the microscope and he was clean out of Glen20.

The nature of this site "has" changed I'd suggest
For those that have been picked on for their speiling and grandma as Tiga has suggested would find this amusing, that even the most pedantic can make a mistake or two  ;D

Fair go. I'm agreeing with the sentiment that a rabid few often spoil sites like this. It becomes difficult to care about online commentary/discussion/debate when some posters are hell-bent on negativity, often not based on much at all, especially intellect.

Tell me, in what "discussion forum" other than an anonymous internet one would you have the guts to repeat a sentence like your last?

A case in point!

FooffooValve, (pauses to check the spelling of FooffooValve) If someone came to a party at my place, found that some of my guests were not to their liking and then decide to make a formal announcement to everyone about how they were leaving because the standard of my party was not to their liking, then damn straight I would tell them to their face exactly what I said to 65.

If I were into "Grand Exits" I'd rather go out and buy a complete collection of Jane Austin DVD's than listen to another internet forum "leaver" announcing their intentions to vacate the premises.
That sort of behaviour is soooo Windows Vista!

And if at your little soire, to properly extend the spurious analogy, two or three of your "guests" were behaving abominably, bad mouthing everyone, and trashing your joint, would you still tell those that choose to leave to not let the door hit them on the way out?? How high (or low) are your standards?

Let's not kid ourselves, these keyboard he-men are a blight on internet forums, and we all suffer because of them. Most sites tolerate them, for what reason I'm not sure. They are boring and rarely actually offer anything for debate or genuine discussion.

An ignore button would be great. Then you could ignore me and we'll all be happy.  ;D

I think this site has an excellent mix of serious footy discussion and light hearted stuff.

Yes everyone's opinion may not be yours and some of the humor might not appeal to you, but that is life. It's not that hard to skim past posts that don't float your boat.

There are quite a few posters here who I disagree with on almost everything but I think that makes for a better forum.

I have recently been placed on moderated posting at another site because I didn't rate a playe and made it well known. Didn't swear or be abusive, just posted my thoughts on him and was disciplined largely because he is a favorite of a few mods.

Personally I would much rather the approach of this forum.

Firstly Foo, I don't ignore anyone and never will. Its the light and shade of this forum that makes it great. I also think that the Mods here do a fantastic job and anyone who has seriously gotten out of line has been truly dealt with. I've been on this forum long enough to see people come and go and some have been punted, and I personally have been involved in the odd fracas with a member or two but I just move on like the Roadrunner and the coyote do after a day of treading the dirt acme style. The key is to not take things too seriously and if someone taunts you, just don't react. Just like internet trolls, they thrive on reaction and hate it when their comments are ignored. I have come across many trolls in my time and I take personal enjoyment knowing that by my lack of reaction, they are seething inside.  have a look at this link, you might get a laugh out of it if you haven't already seen it and give you an insight as to who these keyboard he-men you mention really are. http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FMEe7JqBgvg

Dookie is a small town near Benalla.

It has/used to have an agricultural college there.

Riding out there by push bike seemed like a good idea at 2 one morning - luckily we couldn't find anything to ride.

Might as well take the opportunity to praise the mods for the fine job they do keeping Tiger fans informed.
