Claims Richmond Tiger Angus Graham 'slapped' woman

THE AFL's notorious Mad Monday celebrations may have turned sour for Richmond ruckman Angus Graham.
The Tigers were last night conducting an internal investigation into an alleged incident involving a woman at a North Melbourne hotel about midnight on Monday.
It is believed a woman sent an email to a Melbourne newspaper claiming she was slapped by an intoxicated Graham, following a day of drinking by Richmond players at another location.
She also claimed he poured a drink over her.
The AFL was yesterday notified by the Tigers after Richmond was contacted by a Melbourne newspaper over the allegations. It is believed Victoria Police had not been contacted by the woman.
As of last night, Richmond had failed to substantiate any of the woman's claims.
The alleged incident was at the Turf Club Hotel on the edge of the CBD and not far from Melbourne University.
Graham, 24, who is contracted for another two years, has flown home to King Island, but Richmond was considering whether to fly him back to Melbourne to assist in the club investigation.
The Australian understands a Richmond official yesterday spoke to Graham, who said he could not remember anything.
Several Richmond players are understood to have also been drinking at the Turf Club Hotel, but may not have been with Graham at the time of the alleged incident.
Mad Monday is the first working day after the conclusion of the home and away season for the nine clubs not playing in finals.
It has been notorious for players binge-drinking and behaving in inappropriate ways.
Last year, AFL general manager of football operations Adrian Anderson said the league would speak to Collingwood after seeing footage of players drinking from a beer bong during their Mad Monday celebrations after winning the premiership.
"Let me just clarify, there is nothing wrong with getting dressed up and having fun but things like the beer bong is not a good look and not what we are after," he said then. The AFL was under pressure to ban Mad Mondays in 2008 because of the antics of Carlton's Brendan Fevola, who paraded outside a Melbourne bar in a nightie with a sex toy protruding from his pants.
Fevola was on a booze-fuelled outing with teammates when he arrived at Federation Square wearing a pink nightie with the sex toy strapped around his waist.
Video footage of the incident taken on a mobile phone was posted on YouTube.
In the same year, Melbourne's Ben Holland needed medical attention after being struck by teammate Nathan Carroll following a day-night Mad Monday drinking session.

Well at least by Turf Club publican Matt McMahon, who had AFL clubs Melbourne, Richmond and North Melbourne roll in.
"The only reason we would have had to have called in security was to kick out Michael Ferrito for his bad moves on the dance floor," he said.
Fellow Roos Brent "Boomer" Harvey and Andrew Swallow were living it up with Demon Brent Malony and many Tigers until 1am.

If Craig Cameron has given this bloke another 2 year contract then thats the end of it for me. I wont be buying any membership or merchandise or anything. I'm sick and tired of putting my hard earned into a club that makes this type of decision and takes the membership for being idiots. If he has a 2 year deal then the club gets nothing from me for 2 years. Sick of it. Sick of blokes like Graham and Jackson and White et al living on great salaries which are funded by the membership. Its just disgraceful and Im sick of it :banghead

The Herald Sun has spoken to a woman who was at the Turf Club bar in North Melbourne when the alleged incident occurred.
The woman, 21, who spoke to the Herald Sun in a face-to-face taped interview, claimed she was stunned at the Tíger's behaviour.
"I was just going to get a drink with a couple of my friends and I was standing like kinda (sic) in a big crowd and he turned around and looked at me, I looked back and he hit me on the cheek," she alleged.
"I was shocked and asked him "what are you doing?'' and he kept on telling me to "go all in" and I was like "what do you mean by going all in, what are you doing?"
He's like "you’re dumb, you’re dumb, go all in." I was like "are you trying to fight a girl right now because this is kind of ridiculous."
The alleged incident happened around midnight in the rear bar at the hotel.
The woman, whom the Herald Sun has chosen not to name, has not made a complaint to police or the hotel, but said she had spoken out because AFL players should not be able to get away with treating women so badly.
Richmond coach Damien Hardwick had nothing to say on arrival at Punt Road this morning.
A relaxed-looking Hardwick declined to make a comment to media when he arrived just before 10am.
When asked if was concerned about the reports, he simply smiled and said "no".
A Turf Club Hotel manager said last night there could be CCTV footage of the incident.
He said he would talk to Richmond about releasing the tape if the club approached him.
It is understood that Richmond has spoken to Graham, who cannot remember anything of the incident.
The club was considering summoning him to the club to help with an investigation .
Richmond's general manager of football Craig Cameron said the club was taking the allegation seriously.
“We have not received a complaint, but this is a serious allegation that we are looking into,” he said.

The club released a statement this afternoon saying it had not been notified of any complaint regarding the allegation.
"However, the Richmond Football Club does not condone any behaviour that disrespects women and has therefore investigated the serious allegations that were made against the player," the statement said.
"These inquiries have been unable to substantiate the allegation. The Club would cooperate fully with any police investigation into the matter."
AFL boss Andrew Demetriou said he knew of the allegations and was taking the matter very seriously, but said there was not enough information to know if the incident had occurred or not.
"If it is true hopefully it will be forwarded to the police," Mr Demetriou said.
"From an AFL perspective, we will do all we can to find as much information as we can, but as it stands we are still waiting for more information.
But he rejected suggestions the alleged incident was a result of Mad Monday culture.
"Mad Monday is a thing of the past, I think the clubs and players have gone to great lengths to change the sort of methodology around Mad Monday," he said.

ASSAULT allegations by a woman claiming Tiger Angus Graham ''hit'' her in a backpacker pub during post-season celebrations remain unsubstantiated following Richmond's review of security footage.
Tigers' football boss Craig Cameron, who is heading Richmond's investigation into the events that followed the private gathering of the playing group on Monday afternoon and continued late into that evening, told The Age last night that the surveillance tape from North Melbourne's Turf Club Hotel had been scoured on Tuesday.
He said there was nothing in the footage that suggested the accusations of a 21-year-old woman, who registered the alleged assault with a newspaper rather than authorities, were true.
''A representative of the club went to the Turf Club Hotel on Tuesday afternoon, reviewed footage and spoke to club management about the allegations that were made,'' Cameron said.
It is The Age's understanding that the representative is not a Richmond employee as such, but an expert who was enlisted by the club to investigate the sensitive case.
Victoria Police, while aware of reports of the alleged incident, had received no related complaints yesterday. Management of the Turf Club, where Graham and a handful of Tiger players continued drinking on Monday night after an organised post-season gathering earlier in the day, also said no grievance had been lodged or noticed by venue staff.
The complaining woman told a newspaper yesterday that Graham poured a drink over her and ''hit'' her on the cheek. She has alleged the incident occurred around midnight.
Tiger officials have only been able to question Graham by phone as he has returned home to King Island in Tasmania. The 47-game player has told the club he cannot recall any incident with a female at the hotel. Questioning of the handful of players who were with Graham at the time of the alleged incident has not enlightened Richmond bosses further.
As of last night, Graham, 24, had not been asked to return to Melbourne, and a Richmond spokesman indicated the interrogation of the player had been taken as far as possible.
A Turf Club manager who was working at the pub on Monday night, told The Age yesterday that nothing untoward had been reported to the venue and, as a consequence, the hotel had not seen fit to review security footage, which was captured by as many as 20 security cameras.
He estimated there were 10 security and 12 bar staff working at the bar on Monday and added: ''We just don't miss things like this.
''I do have security cameras, but … nothing has been reported so there's nothing to look at … I don't know what he (Graham) looks like, I don't know what she looks like, so where would I start when I've got 16 or 20 security cameras here?''
The AFL's Sue Clark, who manages the league's Respect and Responsibility code that addresses violence against women, is monitoring Richmond's investigation into the Graham case.
AFL boss Andrew Demetriou said yesterday that a complaint of such a nature should be taken up with authorities.
''If it is true, then hopefully it will be forwarded to the police because they are the appropriate body to deal with it from a legal perspective.''

It's sad the way journalists have lost all pride in their work and are more interested in entertainment/sensationalism than honest, accurate reporting.

They haven't said he did it all any of the media have said is that he is being investigated for "allegedly slapping a woman".
Which part of that is untrue? None of it because that's exactly what has happened - an allegation has been made and it's been invetigated
I certainly don't agree with how it's been reported (the HUNS secret digital altered tapes are a joke) but that's the way the the media (& I use that term loosely) works

The woman went to the HUN with the story who didn't run with it straight away (so unHUN like TBH) and somehow Denham got hold of it and reported it and as those type of stories go I thought he put the Club in a pretty good light eg being proactive with their own investigation etc.

But here's the thing with the media's portrayal of this story Damo, words can be manipulated to tell the story any way you like, without actually telling fibs. Here are 2 quotes that put different slants from Graham's perspective:
"It is understood that Richmond has spoken to Graham, who cannot remember anything of the incident."
This sentence suggests being drunk to the point of no memory, when included in an article about Mad Monday partying. Then we have:
"The 47-game player has told the club he cannot recall any incident with a female at the hotel."
A totally different case where the player does not recall having any altercation with any female.
I'm not a Gus fan but I know what is sounding more plausible and likely with each new piece of information that comes out.
