Jay Clark in the Herald-Sun says his mail is we're going to select Taylor Adams at pick 15....
Taylor Adams made for big time
by: Jay Clark
From: Herald Sun
November 19, 2011
RICHMOND already has one Dustin Martin. The conundrum the Tigers face on Thursday evening is whether they should draft another.
Taylor Adams, a strong-bodied inside midfielder from the Geelong Falcons, is the man the Tigers will mull over.
Adams is a hard running, clearance king, rated by several clubs as the most impressive interviewee at the draft camp.
One national recruiting manager declared him a future AFL captain.
When the Tigers come to their pick (No.15), he is likely to be still available. But the issue is - with Martin, Trent Cotchin, Nathan Foley, Dan Jackson and Reece Conca, is Richmond's onball brigade strong enough as it is?
And if so, should the Tigers instead opt for an exciting outside midfielder (Hayden Crozier) or an elite-kicking defender (Brandon Ellis) instead?
The mail is Richmond will take Adams, 18, because clubs can't have enough midfielders who win contested ball, as Geelong has proven. Adams, Martin and Cotchin would certainly make an imposing trio.
If he slips past the Tigers, bet the house on Fremantle nabbing him.
Falcons regional manager Michael Turner said Adams, who averaged 28 disposals including 10 contested in the TAC Cup this season, was a total professional. His character adds to the appeal.
"We were out at Oakleigh during the year and they were pumping us at quarter-time and before the group even got to the line coaches Taylor got them in together and spoke to the kids about where we were situated," Turner said. "That shows leadership and initiative."
The bullocking ball-winner, who kicked some clutch goals playing forward, also dispelled any fears about his endurance, running a 15.1 beep test at the draft camp - ranking him equal 10th.
It was reward for hard work as rarely were there days when Adams was not doing extra sessions or recovery.
"Being able to tick all the boxes is something you have to do to reach the next level," Adams said. "And even if you do go to the next level, you have to be even more precise, and do even more of that one per cent stuff."
Adams' desire to protect and create opportunities for his teammates prompted some talent spotters to label him "too selfless". But the onballer said his attitude was totally team driven.
"When you are out there you don't think about yourself too much. If your teammate's there, you are going to block for him," he said.

whoa, Im all over this option already...sounds precisely what we need...couldnt agree more with having enough ball winning machines ..geelong, collingwood and Hawthorn have proven it...lets do it :gotigers
-
Can't have too many mids. Do it Richmond.
-
Can play inside and outside and kicks well on both feet. Get him. We should aim for a forward between 180 and 185cm with pick 26 and a tall high leaping ruck/forward with pick 55
-
I think he'll be gone by our pick.

yeah its a real conundrum to decide whether you want 1 or 2 dustin martins...

I queried Jay Clark about Taylor Adams heading to Richmond and his reply was "Well, they love him".
-
I'm willing to see how Foley goes in 2012 before judging him. This year just gone was his first after virtually missing two years of footy so I'll cut him some slack. The main thing for him was showing his body (ankle) could still hold up over a full season which it did. With another full preseason and 12 months of AFL footy behind him, next year is when he needs to show he can return to the Foley of old.

Martin - 187cm, 86kg
Adams - 181cm, 80kg
:huh
You've got to laugh at some journos desperation to make any connection to create a storyline. If Adams is 'like' any current AFL star then it's more like Brent Harvey than Dusty.
As you know I would prefer a bigger-body mid as we are too small a side as is that gets brushed aside. Everytime we play a top side you just look at each pairing before the first bounce and our smallness stands out like anything. A bigger bodied onballer would also allow us to upgrade on a Jacko or Tuck.

yeah ox, like he's the worst player on our list ::)

Plays nothing like Harvey. Devon Smith play's in a similar way to Harvey but Adams is more like Tom Libatore or Krik. Stong inside ball winner and aggressive tackler.

Fair enough elliot as you may have seen Adams play more than I have but from the vision I've seen of Adams and the way he moves the first current player I thought of was Harvey.

omg...so there's been upteen thousand players that have excelled at the level , yet the kid is compared to a relative nobody that's yet to play 10 games....is that meant to be complimentary, I dont know :lol

He's built like harvey and moves like him as well. I got the same impression from the highlights of the kid too.

Besides, its not about him being the worst on the list u doofus,it's about what we could have gotten for him.

seriously when will the club learn. This small HBF sub 180 cms doesnt pay in this modern game and especially when you have players like we do who are better served as alter boys
I can picture it Dusty goes down and it will be Conca, Adams and Foley strutting their stuff against the likes of Swan, Pendels and Thomas.
LMFAO
LMFAO

and i'm sure all three will be quaking in their boots at the thought of being run through by thomas.
I take it, that in your little hypothetical, that cotchin, deledio, houli, grigg, jackson, have all gone down before martin?

Some may argue that losing Grigg and Jackson wouldn't put us at that much of a disadvantage ;) ;D :outtahere

:lol
probably not.
they'd still have to be MIA before we fielded that starting midfield though
-
LOL - it will be interesting to see the reaction to who we actually pick up in the draft - you can back it in that it wont be who all the experts in the paper think it will be!
Long gone are the days when we read the newpaper the day before the draft and picked who- ever the "experts" said was good.

Yes clearly there is no room in the modern game for the small guy! Blair, Davis, Krakouer, Sidebottom, Fasolo all Sub 180cm just played off in a grand final.......Stokes, Varcoe, Wojcinsci, Chapman, Christensen all sub 180cm just played off in a winning grand final. Add another 50mm and you get Selwood, Swann, Ball, Kelly, Thomas, Hunt, Didak, Johnson and Shaw.
Thats 10 players sub 180cm and 9 players sub 185cm that played in the grand final!
Rioli, Puopolo, Mitchell, Osborne and Bateman are all sub 180cm players that played in a side that missed the grand final by a goal!
I think your argument is pretty flawed mate :lol :lol :wallywink

Look at him goooooo!

Adams is good in traffic (at TAC Cup level) anyway. Does he have a 2nd gear or is he a one pacer? Thats my concern. At AFL level itll be harder for him to get out of traffic and if his first 3 or 4 metres away from the contest arent quick then he may have problems.

Yeah real flawed. 2 finals in 30 years pal so so flawed. :help
Yep my aregument is flawed but im guessing you guys are the experts who still cream their Mchales over Foley and Edwards one day becoming the guns we all hope they do
Look at our list and watch players so easily get brushed off the ball yet you guys still want your Foley/Edward types in our starting 22 yet still want to recruit more of the same.
The day i saw Farmer/Foley/White/Nahas/King/Nason/Edwards on the ground was the day i LMFAO yet i bet you lot still thought it was a good selection from the club and a move in the right direction. :banghead :banghead

Hang on Dip Stick, you said the sub 180cm player has no place in the modern game yet every club seems to have 3 or 4 of these types on there list including both last years grand finalists! So yes what you are saying is wrong, the sub 180cm footballer CLEARLY has a place in the modern game :wallywink :wallywink :wallywink :wallywink

yeah, well i'm sick of seeing skiny runts from other teams run rings around our bigger players.

Got it in one Al, this is the exact reason we shouldn't draft Adams, clearly he would be better served on someone els's list so he can kick our arse every time we play him ;D ;D ;D

height is not as important when you are a ball-winning machine who is as strong as an ox. This bloke is a genuine inside-mid who loves contested ball and can kick off both feet. Sounds alright to me.
Comparisons to Edwards and co are laughable. Similar height maybe, but completely different body types and abilities.
