Sam Frost ........... def/fwd 194cm 87kg 28/08/1993 Sandringham Dragons (Vic)
Zyrus Manson ..... forward 195cm 84kg 24/04/1993 Claremont (WA)
Julian Dobosz ..... forward 193cm 85kg 17/11/1992 North Hobart (Tas)
Myles Bolger ....... ruckman 201cm 90kg 25/03/1993 South Fremantle (WA)
Andrew Boseley .. defender 194cm 80kg 04/09/1992 Geelong Falcons (Vic)
Shane Nelson ..... midfielder 179cm 73kg 11/05/1993 West Perth (WA)
Josh Waldhuter .. midfielder 184cm 83kg 15/03/1993 Central District (SA)
Marley Williams ... mid/fwd 181cm 85kg 22/07/1993 Claremont (WA)
Michael Bussey .... fwd/def 196cm 81kg 05/07/1993 Eastern Ranges (Vic)
Brody Mihocek .... utility 191cm 86kg 04/02/1993 Burnie (Tas)
Interesting to see which way we go. I'm presuming we'll be again getting a few of the Victorian kids who missed out being drafted down to Punt Rd for a closer look first hand.
-
Would not mind having a closer look at Frost, Boseley and Nelson.
-
Didn't Brody Mihocek make the U18 All-Australian team as a defender? If he grows a few cm's through the year he could be a good prospect.
-
Where's The Cotch saying Marley Williams is better option than McKenzie?
Frost and Boseley can't kick. Would like Nelson, Bolger, Dobosz from that group.
-
No more rangas please.
We need more wogs in our side.
Draft more wogs.
-
Used Dobosz in the phantom draft, powerful mark and good kick..
Suprised he and frost were overlooked among others, but thats the way it works
-
Dobosz is one of the worst field kicks going around. only been playing for a few years though
-
I was happy with what I saw in his highlights video
-
No more rangas please.
We need more wogs in our side.
Draft more wogs.
Agree! More wogs will equal more success :lol
-
I was happy with what I saw in his highlights video
Greg Miller was happy with JON's highlights video :lol
-

Draft more wogs.
Nah, people might start confusing us with Carlton :lol
-
I was happy with what I saw in his highlights video
Greg Miller was happy with JON's highlights video :lol
Mate honestly, most of your posts are smart behind attacks, dont you have anything better to do??
-
No, I don't. I just find it funny that you say you're surprised someone was overlooked because you're happy with his highlights package. WGAF about a highlights video? They're highlights. I've seen the kid play and he would be a long way off playing AFL football, IMO. But poo, I guess he looked okay on a highlights reel....
LMFAO "happy with his highlights" :lol

Ripe rookies
By Jason Phelan
Mon 28 Nov, 2011
THE 2011 NAB AFL Draft is in the books, but there's still a lot of footballing talent ripe for the picking at December's pre-season and rookie drafts.
Clubs looking to bolster their tall stocks are in luck because there are plenty of raw key prospects available who were overlooked at the national draft, but will be well worth a rookie spot that will allow them time to add some polish to their games.
Tasmanian Brody Mihocek made the All Australian team after an excellent national carnival, but he didn't hear his name called in Sydney last week and the highly competitive, 192cm defender can consider himself unlucky.
He's joined at the head of the list of rookie hopefuls by Sandringham's Sam Frost and Geelong Falcon Andrew Boseley.
Frost is an exciting athletic prospect who came to football late, but still attracted interest from several clubs after a good championships campaign with Vic Metro.
Slight queries over the 194cm defender's kicking action probably hurt him at the national draft, but he is an excellent rookie prospect with tremendous upside who will benefit from being in a full-time AFL environment.
Boseley is a long-limbed 192cm full-back who made the TAC Cup Team of the Year and would be capable of playing some football next year off a rookie list.
This year's big draft smoky, Waylen Manson, didn't find a club at the draft despite kicking bags of goals for Waratahs in the NTFL.
He's from a tiny community south east of Halls Creek in outback Western Australia and while clubs were wary of offering him a berth on their senior list, it won't surprise to see him join one of the WA clubs.
Justin Clarke, the centre half-back from Booleroo Centre in South Australia, loomed as a late swooper in the days before the draft, but also went unclaimed, as did Simon Tunbridge, who returned to Perth citing home sickness after spending a year with GWS as one of its 17-year-old concessionary players.
North Hobart's Julian Dobosz, South Fremantle's Myles Bolger, Geelong's Jai Sheahan and Sam Gordon, Eastern's Michael Bussey, Sandringham pair Xavier Richards and Fletcher Roberts, Oakleigh trio Damian Mascitti, Jake Hammond and Nick Murphy are all taller players who will also be strongly considered for selection at the rookie draft.
Dandenong forward Brett O'Hanlon doesn't quite fit into that category at 189cm, but his strength overhead will surely see him offered a rookie lifeline.
There will also be plenty of midfielders available at the December 13 draft meeting with West Perth's Shane Nelson probably the most surprising non-selection at the national draft.
He's a prolific ball winner with great endurance who can go forward and kick a goal and will surely be given a chance to impress from a rookie list.
Nelson's WA teammates Cam Eardley and Marley Williams will also rank highly among the remaining onballers as will Tasmanian skipper John McKenzie (who won All Australian honours this year), Murray Bushranger Jack Crisp, North Ballarat speedster Lachie Dalgleish, Northern Knight Michael Mascoulis and SA hard hitter Josh Waldhuter.
Mature-aged players Kyal Horsley, Lee Spurr and Darren Pfeiffer will also be in the mix after excellent seasons.

Wouldn't mind having Bolger in a rookie spot since there isn't anything to lose. But I imagine a teenager from WA wouldn't be keen on shipping to Melbourne just for a rookie position.

If the Kid want to play AFL then he should want to do what it takes, if he dosn't then we wouldn't want him anyway ;)

Yeah that's all good and I was thinking that anyway. Just a bit of idle thought as I'm not overly fussed who we get as a rookie, pretty stoked with how our senior list is shaping. But 'home sick' seems to be such an infectious disease lately and bringing some snot nose all that way for a sympathy position sounds a bit much.

if the Cats are pilfering other sports for rookies then lets raid the Aussie Greco-Roman wrestling team. At least we'll get some bulk.

tigs2011 has kindly allowed me to post his Rookies Depth Chart on OER:
--------------------------------------------------------------------------
Rookies Depth Chart
By tigs2011
I have created a depth chart of our list to show the areas that need addressing in the draft next week.
I separated the players into different positions and obviously many players will play multiple roles so i tried to keep it to their primary roles. IMO all midfielders need to play both inside/outside to be effective but will obviously favour one or the other so have kept them to one category. I've also tried to rank them from: established in the team, high potential to be a very good player, potentially AFL quality/fringe player and fair chance they are gone within 2 years.
Chart is as follows:
KPD
Alex Rance
Dylan Grimes
David Astbury
Jayden Post
Kelvin Moore
Luke McGuane
Currently have 6 KPD but could feasibly have only 4 after next year.
Potential recruits:
Michael Bussey 197cm/80kg/18yo (Eastern Ranges)
Kyle Hartigan 194/93/20 (Werribee VFL)
Tom Lee 192/88/20 (Claremont WAFL)
Small Lock Down Defender
Matthew Dea
Steven Morris
Currently have 2 unproven players in this category and I wouldn't mind seeing another one with good skills added.
Potential recruits:
Daniel Garside 187/82/19 (St.Bedes/Mentone VAFA)
Rebounding Defenders
Chris Newman
Bachar Houli
Jake Batchelor
Brandon Ellis
John Heslin**
Daniel Connors
Probably one of our strongest areas. IMO Ellis will have an impact next year leaving us with 4 players fighting for spots. Doubt we will add more than 1 in the rookie draft.
Potential recruits:
David Mirra 188/84/20 (Box Hill Hawks VFL)
Brayden O'Hara 183/82/24 (Centrals SANFL)
Michael Florio 188/78/20 (Perth WAFL)
Louis Egger 180/78/18 (NT Thunder)
Ben Darrou 190/97/18 (Sandringham Dragons
Inside Midfielders
Dustin Martin
Trent Cotchin
Nathan Foley
Reece Conca
Brad Helbig
Matthew Arnot
Shane Tuck
Daniel Jackson
Good mix of quality/potential and we look like adding McCarthy to the ranks. Wouldn't mind us picking up another prospect or even a mature-ager in the draft.
Potential recruits:
John McCarthy 189/82/22 (Collingwood)
Kyal Horsley 182/88/23 (Subiaco WAFL)
Tom Sundberg 184/78/23 (Collingwood VFL)
Mat Suckling 182/82/21 (Norwood SANFL)
Willie Wheeler 179/78/19 (Coburg VFL)
Josh Waldhuter 183/84/18 (Centrals SANFL)
Doug Morris 185/87/18 (Northern Knights)
Jack Charleston 177/83/18 (Western Jets)
Outside Midfielders
Brett Deledio
Shaun Grigg
Shane Edwards
Matthew White
Jeromey Webberley
Other than Deledio where is the quality here?? Grigg/Edwards are chances to come good but that's about it. Need to grab 1 or 2 who can win their own ball as well.
Potential recruits:
Steve Verrier 187/76/18
Shane Nelson 177/69/18
Jack Crisp 190/83/18
Lachlan Dalgleish 184/78/18
Rucks
Ivan Maric
Tom Derickx
Andrew Browne
Angus Graham
We have a few rucks now. Think Graham will be in trouble soon but not much quality in the draft IMO.
Potential recruits:
Myles Bolger 202/95/18
Chad Sandilands 205/93/18
KPF
Jack Riewoldt
Tyrone Vickery
Ben Griffiths
Todd Elton
Brad Miller
Another strength of ours as we already have 2 KPF's and 2 other potential AFL quality. Doubt we will take another in the draft.
Potential recruits:
Nick Murphy 193/87/18
Ben Gazzola 192/83/21
Ben Brown 199/93/19
Medium Forwards
Dean MacDonald
1 medium forward on the entire list is pretty poor. Can't imagine us not addressing this list need in the draft with at least 1 rookie if not 2.
Potential recruits:
Cameron Shenton 188/84/21
Aaron Hall 186/82/20
Damien Mascitti 187/74/19
Jake Hammond 188/84/18
Lee Spurr 182/79/24
Daniel Farmer 188/84/19
Will Farrer 184/75/21
Carl Peterson 183/??/24
Small Forwards
Robin Nahas
Jake King
Another weakness on the list. Nahas is good quality and King plays his role well but won't be around forever. Need to get a couple of x-factor small forwards in.
Potential recruits:
Addam Maric 177/76/21
Marley Williams 181/81/18
Gibson Turner 177/69/18
Alroy Gilligan 177/72/21
Darren Minchington 179/80/18
Ideal draft IMO would be:
PSD: John McCarthy (Inside Mid)
RD: Cameron Shenton (Med Fwd), Daniel Garside (Small Def), David Mirra (Reb Def), Gibson Turner (Small Fwd), Steve Verrier (Outside Mid), Will Farrer (Med Fwd)
-
Dea a chance to be a very good player and Helbig only a chance to be a fringe/AFL standard player? dunno about that.
-
Dea a chance to be a very good player and Helbig only a chance to be a fringe/AFL standard player? dunno about that.
Yer found it hard to classify them without a group for each player. Put Dea in the upper category with Conca/Batchelor/Grimes because the coaching staff clearly rate him. I put potential AFL quality players like Helbig and fringe players like Edwards/Grigg in the same category to save effort. :shh
I think Helbig will make it. Griffiths/Elton were the others i found really hard to place.
-
John McCarthy, Brett O'Hanlon, Shane Nelson and Gibson Turner would be a good group.
-
A couple of the BF phantom draft posters have done a mock rookie draft as well:
This is what they have for Richmond:
Snoop Dog's phantom rookie draft:
# 7 Richmond - Josh Waldhunter (Central Districts / 183 / 83 / 93)
Got plenty of admirers this kid and was a little surprised his name wasnt called in the ND. Terrific player who has played Champ football the last 2 years and been a really good performer. Tough uncompromising type of player who will be ready for senior footy pretty quickly. Is a midfielder who will probably start more as a HB and has some similarities to Aidan Riley actually. Probably not a type who has heaps of x factor but he is very good at the clearances and his ball use by hand in traffic is a real feature. Also has a pretty penetrating kick as well and can kick through the lines. He is certainly a good addition. Will play seniors fairly quickly and is a nice addition to Richmond and is a Hardwick type player.
# 25 Richmond - Gibson Turner (NT – small midfielder)
Small fwd from NT who was invited to DC and I thought was a genuine shot at a slot on GWS list. Is a terrific type and reminds very much of a young Leon Davis. Terrific pace and agility and very good 1:1 and even better when the ball hits the ground. Another who I would have as a mid range pick in the draft. Real favourite of mine.
# 43 Richmond - Sam Gordon (Geelong / Tall Fwd)
Ex AIS kid who is a super height for a KPF but has been up and down this year. Plays APS so we havent seen much of him but he went reasonably well at the champs vs Tas and SA and was missed in their final game after injuring his ankle. Came back in last couple of weeks for Falcons and has been good. In fact he has done well in all his TAC games this year averaging over 3 goals per game. Is reasonably good aerobically and sound over the first few yards to create space and distance but he is an absolute competitor and in the vision I have seen just looks like he will become a player. In saying all that he is a bit unknown because he didn’t test other than for height and was a bit shorter than what would have been ideal.
# 61 Richmond - Corey Dell'olio (South Fremantle - small fwd)
22 yo who has come along really well and who I caught a few times this year. Ended up with something like 50+ goals and has been largely unheralded. Maybe a bit like Patrick Rose in that he isnt your classic crumber he is more your power small fwd like Mark WIlliams or Paul Medhurst was. Still he brings something and would be a chance in the rookie on what I saw.
# 79 Richmond - John Heslin (Ireland)
# 97 Richmond - PASS
Snoop Dog's full rookie phantom draft at: http://www.bigfooty.com/forum/showthread.php?t=894434
Chris25's phantom rookie draft:
#7 Richmond – Michael Musicka (184cm midfielder - South Launceston)
I quite like Musicka. History says only so many Tasmanians will get picked, but on AFL attributes alone I would probably have him ahead of McKenzie. Quick winger who can run off half back, good mark too. Some suggestions of behavioural issues earlier in the year, but I'd give him a shot.
#25 Richmond – Aseri Raikiwasa (191cm defender - Port Adelaide)
One of my favourite defensive prospects in the draft, but the rookie draft was always his best shot. He has been working with the another Fijian defender in Alipate Carlile. And when it comes to Aseri you can guarantee that nobody will be working harder to make it. He performed strongly for SA, and has already become a leader on the field. He has a great build, so development will likely be about defensive work as opposed to strength.
#43 Richmond – Jake Hammond (188cm forward - Oakleigh)
Really nice player, and one I wouldn't have been surprised had he gone in the national draft. Height is probably what held him back, because he tends to play taller than what he actually is and that doesn't always work all that well at AFL level. As a third tall though he offers a lot, would probably be one who could see early game time too like a Karnezis.
#61 Richmond – Addam Maric (176cm forward - Melbourne)
I have a feeling Maric will be one of those players who never lives up to their potential, and getting delisted by Melbourne isn't a good start. Personally I'd rather see Peter Persinos get selected as I view him as a more natural goal kicker or maybe even Will Shea who offers a bit more x factor. But Maric will get another shot.
# 79 Richmond - John Heslin (Ireland)

Suppose the question is will we use all of them

I believe the minimum requirement is having 4 rookies on your playing list so if that's right then the answer is no WP. The talk around seems to be that we will use all but one of our rookie picks.
-
I reckon we will re-rookie Contin & Jackobi
And probably take the mini Maric
So that's 3 out of 7 ;D

Cam Howat with a bullet :shh

What about Heslin?
With he and Miller that's two slots of the eight.

what about the PNG boys on scholarships? are they old enough yet to be rookied?

I don't see Jakobi making it. Probably Contin, Wheeler and maybe Maric as the 3 out of the 7. Heslin will be the last pick so that makes four. That would leave us with 3 unknown rookie picks.
-
Wheeler mentioned in The Age today as getting picked up in the rookie draft. Presumably it'll be by us.

Consolation Prize
Emma Quayle
December 12, 2011
For those overlooked in last month's draft, tomorrows rookie and pre-season drafts offers a second chance.
LAUCHLAN DALGLEISH
Midfielder, 184cm, 76kg
From North Ballarat Rebels
Dalgleish won the 120-metre Terang Gift in 12.25 seconds three days after missing out in the national draft. Starred at the draft combine after five weeks off with a punctured lung, finishing top five in the clean hands test, the agility run, the 20-metre sprint and the repeat sprint test. A club should choose him in the hope that his running ability becomes even more damaging.
MYLES BOLGER
Ruckman, 202cm, 95kg
From South Fremantle
Only three young ruckmen — Billy Longer (No. 8), Tom Downie (No. 56) and Corey Gault (No. 65) — were drafted, with queries on Bolger’s kicking and ability to impact on games by taking marks seeing him slip through. He’s missed a lot of football with a foot injury ruling him out for all of last year and disrupting his preparation for the season just gone. He moves well and has a competitive streak. Given more time, he’s one who could surprise.
FLETCHER ROBERTS
Forward, 193cm, 84kg
From Sandringham Dragons
Roberts was in the mix for a few clubs on draft day, and may be gone before the rookie draft, with the Western Bulldogs one of the interested parties. He was one of many talls overlooked, with clubs grabbing those who had been consistently competitive. In draft combine testing Roberts was a just bit behind some of the others in speed, agility and endurance. That said, on his day he took hold of games, never more so than in the TAC Cup grand final when he kicked three goals in a 21-possession game. There’s plenty to work with here — he’ll just need some time.
SHANE NELSON
Midfielder, 178cm, 78kg
From West Perth
Nelson did some nice things as a link-up midfielder this year, and can slide through traffic and get away with pace. What probably had him slip through the national draft was his kicking. While he did well in draft combine testing, his disposal can get a bit scrappy under pressure and lacks penetration. He gets to contests, can win the ball and kicks goals. He’ll surely get a chance as a rookie.
JULIAN DOBOSZ
Forward, 190cm, 82kg
From North Hobart
Dobosz, a full-forward, is reasonably new to football, having played cricket. He kicked a lot of goals for North Hobart at the start of last season, then again for the Tasmanian under-18 team. He relied a lot on his nous around goal rather than leading and marking. Whether he has the pace to play this way against more agile opponents at AFL level is the question, particularly given he’s an in-between size.
JAI SHEAHAN
Forward, 195cm, 82kg
From Geelong Falcons
Sheahan is another tall who was overlooked for those who played with a little more urgency, and have a burst of speed. But he improved as last season unfolded, can certainly grab a mark and can kick, which should get him his chance.
ANDREW BOSELEY
Defender, 192cm, 75kg
From Geelong Falcons
Boseley played for the Falcons as a 19-year-old key defender this year, and was eye-catching for the way he would fly in to make a well-timed spoil, gather the ball and sprint away. His challenge is to polish up his skills, but he has a strong competitive streak that makes him ideal rookie draft material, particularly given he played out the season with a shoulder injury.
SAM FROST
Defender, 194cm, 94kg
From Sandringham Dragons
Frost was in the mix for a few clubs at the national draft, but slipped through. He was one of the more athletic players available, yet having only recently decided to focus on football instead of basketball, his game sense was less developed than some of the “safer” draft picks. At times he looked incredibly exciting and at other times you weren’t sure what he’d do next, but he’s good enough to play AFL.
JACK CRISP
Half-back/half-forward, 190cm, 83kg
From Murray Bushrangers
Crisp’s ability to read the ball across the fl anks and take off with it is his biggest asset. His speed and kicking were the most obvious reason he didn’t hear his name called as, at times during the national carnival, his accuracy was below 40 per cent, although he did well in the draft combine testing. But he has genuine smarts and tackles well.
NICK MURPHY
Forward, 193cm, 81kg
From Oakleigh Chargers
Inconsistency and work rate probably cost Murphy, who would dominate a game for a quarter or a half, then fade out. But he is a natural forward who knows where to lead and how to manoeuvre himself into marking positions. He has definite AFL potential if he can become more consistent.

How many rookies will we pick up?
We have 7 picks in the rookie draft but whether we use all of them is yet to be seen. Last year we passed on the last pick so we could keep a spot open while we trialed 3 players at training over summer (Casserley and two others). We could do the same again this year I'd guess.
Word from Kristian Pisano on twitter is Addam Maric looks set to become a Tiger in tomorrow's rookie draft. In that case 4 of the 7 picks are most likely Maric, Wheeler, Contin and Heslin.

and likely the only one capable of playing senior footy in 2012 :shh

Think the priority should be tall defenders and medium forwards but I assume we will take Nelson, Wheeler, Maric, Contin, and Heslin.

Dobosz is bigger than that.

Josh waldhunter sounds good.

-
No Willie Wheeler?
Yep he better wheel himself back to Coburg ;D
Also no Travis Tuck from what I could see
-
Will we do what we did last year and get a couple there to fight it out for that last rookie spot ? Sounds like a plan to me.
-
Or maybe im wrong. From the draft ticker
"Adam McNicol: P.S. - No clubs elected to select training squad rookies, like Hawthorn did with Travis Tuck and a couple of others last year. There will be no training squads in operation this summer. "
Does that mean we cant do what we did last year ?????

if we passed our last rookie pick (outside heslin)
why would we not have wheeler/contin/whoever else training for the last rookie spot?
If we are allowed to like last year ie. Casserly or have the afl changed the rules again.
-
Because Miller Time has the last spot

How hard is it to take a photo in focus these days?
-
Pass better option than willy wheeler. Chad sanderlands?
-
Because Miller Time has the last spot
Or is he on the main list as the RFC site indicates?
-
Miller can't be on the main list, we didn't delist enough players for there to be a spot for him.

Miller is on the rookie list
And we still have 1 rookie spot spare, hence why we had 7 picks and not eight ;D
But it appears no clubs this year are using the "rookie squad" option this season

I believe Wheeler is signed for Coburg in 2012. Think he was already signed to play before the draft.
