Post by: cub on April 19, 2012, 12:40:07 AM
Know it's a way off but does 15 game have entry entitlements, or do I have to purchase tickets anyone?

I guessing not as far as the 15/16?-game membership as it's an interstate game.

Purchase tickets

It's interstate not in Victoria so a 15/16 membership gets you zippo

Already have my seats. As I rarely get the chance to go to Melbourne these days I bought a GWS platinum membership just for this game. I think my seats are right near the coaches box so it was worth every penny.  :thumbsup

Patton will be making his AFL debut against us. Izzy is back as well.

The AFL website is tipping us to win by 41 points.

Preview: Greater Western Sydney v Richmond
By James Dampney and Paul Daffey
AFL website
12/06/2012

WHERE AND WHEN: Skoda Stadium, Saturday June 16, 2.10pm
LAST TIME: First meeting

Greater Western Sydney will front up for the second half of its debut AFL season hoping to improve on its one victory to date. Coming off a tough clash with Geelong at Simonds Stadium, a fortnight off would have done the Giants' youngsters the world of good. They welcome a Richmond side to Skoda Stadium that will be smarting from last week's home loss to Fremantle that snapped a run of four wins in five games. The Tigers are 5-6 and in 11th place and will be keen for a percentage-boosting scalp to boost their hopes of September action.

THE FOUR POINTS

GREATER WESTERN SYDNEY

1. How much impact can Jon Patton have for the Giants if he lines up as expected? The 2011 NAB AFL No. 1 Draft pick has been forced to watch his young teammates from the sideline, recovering from knee surgery. But he has shown glimpses of his enormous talent in the reserves and will be keen to demonstrate his athleticism in the forward line and across the ground.

2. GWS will turn out for its second match at its brand new home at Sydney Olympic Park. In a mirror image of most of their season, the Giants were competitive for a half before falling away in their first match at the ground, against Essendon in round nine. This time they will be hoping for a more sustained effort and an increase on the 11,887 fans they got for the opening game at Skoda Stadium.

3. How will the Giants' self-belief be sitting after one victory in their opening 10 games? A breakthrough win over the Gold Coast in round seven was impressive, but they have rarely threatened to pick up another four points. Kevin Sheedy regularly compares his side to the Suns in their first season and GWS needs two more wins if it is to match its fellow newcomers' year-one feats.

4. A huge area of concern for the Giants has been kicking a winning score. After 11 games they are still yet to kick more than 100 points. Patton's input will surely help, but the midfield needs to lift to ensure he and his fellow forwards, including Jeremy Cameron and Israel Folau, can help kick a winning score.

RICHMOND
1. Richmond has not won in the Harbour City since defeating the Sydney Swans in round seven, 2004 at the SCG. Its record against the Swans in Sydney since then is: 2005 (no game), 2006 (no game), 2007 (lost by 66 points), 2008 (82 points), 2009 (19 points), 2010 (55 points) and 2011 (10 points).

2. Midfielder Trent Cotchin spoke early this week about the Tigers' pledge to concentrate on contested footy against the Giants, who have been an impressive contested team in their debut season. The Giants had 17 more contested possessions than Geelong in their loss to the Cats in round 10 at Simonds Stadium. Richmond had six more contested possessions against St Kilda in round 10 (win) and one fewer than Fremantle (loss) at the weekend, leaving room to improve.

3. Richmond lacked a hard edge against Fremantle, even if the contested possession count was even; Tigers coach Damien Hardwick said his team was simply not as tough as its opponent. The return of small forward Jake King from a week's suspension will stiffen up the Tigers. They will need that harder edge if they are to get through that post-halfway period when young teams traditionally drop off. After the bye in round 13, the Tigers face Adelaide, Melbourne, Gold Coast and North Melbourne.

4. One of the Tigers' problems against Fremantle was poor conversion. They had 15 more inside 50s and yet lost by 12 points. The Tigers' conversion ambitions this week present a large challenge if Jack Riewoldt fails to come up from his ankle injury. They might replace him with a tall option like Tom Derickx or Angus Graham or they might go in small; Daniel Connors has been in good form in the VFL. Hardwick will be working in translating forward entries into goals. The Giants defenders will want to be on their mettle.

AFL.com.au prediction: Richmond by 41 points

No surprise the bookies and journos have us as overwhelming favourites ...

Bookies (TAB Sportsbet)

Richmond     $1.02
GWS           $15.00

The line is 60.5 points.

Journo 'experts'

Herald-Sun   29-1
The Age       22-2 ..... Martin Blake has tipped the Giants.

-----------------------------------------------------------------------------

Hardwick was not underestimating the Giants. ''Every game is an important game. This season especially more so. The amount of wins that are going to get sides in the eight is somewhere around the 13 mark, so every game is vitally important and this week is no different,'' he said.

''We are under no illusions that GWS on their day are a very good side. Against Essendon they had more scoring shots at half-time, against Geelong they were even.

''They are a good ball club. They've probably fallen away at various stages but we need to be completely on top of our game to get over this mob.''

Richmond was beaten by 15 points the last time it took on an expansion club - Gold Coast in round 17 last year.

Free at the first bounce to Edwards who finds Connors. Connors then misses everything  :P.

The GWS player then kicks it OOTF. The kick back in results in a ball-up and then GWS clear.

doesnt that OOTF just typify connors?

Some of these comments are just pain stupid....wet weather, first gae back, he has been in everything and two kics have let him down...

Get the stuff off his back and give him a go, w have given Edwards a go for 5 stuffing years...
:lol
nice blind turn to create space then blaze away when he should settle?

Story of connor's career so far.

If he cant change that habit he will continue to undo the good work he does to actually get the pill

Yep another stupid comment and if we keep playing like this it won't matter, we are poo, all of them!

why is it a stupid comment?

In that qtr it took 3 mins to get our first possesion and 11 mins our first mark.

We lifted in the last 10 mins getting on top in contested possies. In uncontested possies 74 - 52

Lloyd saying we are too negative and going too wide. GWS want it to be a scrap and we are playing into their hands rather than what we should be doing which is using our superior class to break the game open.

Btw the lowest crowd supposedly since 1941 at Glenferrie they are saying on 3aw.

It's where you get them that matters. They've got plenty of theirs in front of the sticks. And right on cue another one although that one was there.

True but in the dry you can undrstand it as a forward defensive move where you can reset. But in the wet it's dumb as it suits the defending opposition.

Houli in trouble with the MRP? Tim Lane was going about it.

Go in with a mindset of just win and this happens, good sides win in these conditions by 40-50 points, I'm really jacked off that we didn't seem to learn our lesson from last week. We are a dumb dumb football side that can't think on it's feet, yeah dimma is great in drilling us to know our systems inside out, problem is in the wet we need plan b and our players don't have the brains to switch

Game over and we won.
I'll take the four points and that's it move on. We won at least. Seems hollow to me.
Not an effort that was worthy of a finals aspirant.

Mentally we have switched off the in the last two weeks. We have got through the tough end of the draw and have switched off mentally now that we are going through some less difficult opponents.

Conditions admittedly have not helped in the last two weeks but it was almost de ja vu to last week. Yes we won more contested possessions and more inside 50's and I suppose if we kicked straighter we might have been talking about getting a win and some % on Carlton and St Kilda.
Since quarter time they outscored us 10.2.62 to 7.18.60. Alot in that I suppose and some of what I said earlier. Just glad we got the four points but nothing to crow about.
What was worrying was we almost went back into our shells when they got to within 6 points in the last quarter. Nothing special. Let's move on. Just an uninspiring effort and an uninspiring game.

I hope the bye freshens up the side both mentally and physically because the last few weeks have shown that we are possibly starting to fatigue and crack and going back to bad habits and may need some time to recharge the batteries and rejuvinate the mind.

GWS will be well and truly past us in the next 12 to 18 months with their talented youth. We have to many ordinary players in our club. Only good part about today was the 4 points, pity we werent good enough to lift our percentage. Thats what we really needed the points and the percentage.

Honestly we can't go forward with Miller in  the side. I think that if Grimes comes back in we need to send Griffiths forward if Vickery is injured or stays out of form. Even McGuane or Post would be a better option.

I think people are forgetting that GC Suns are the easy beats, not the Giants. We got the 4 points, it was soaking wet, I won't be watching the replay in a hurry but a win is a win.

Those saying to forget about finals.... Essenscum lost to Melbourne two weeks ago, I don't think the Bumbers will be writing off their finals chances after that game.

I think that needs some perspective ramps. it was 12.2 to 11.20, so the chances were created, just not taken.

Sure bad kicking is bad football, but if in the past when we have had narrow losses like that, plenty have jumped on here bemoaning how the scoreboard flattered us.

It was really only their good kicking for goal and our bad kicking for goal that prevented a large win

i think your being too kind Ramps.

That was IMO a disgraceful effort from the RFC. Arguably one of the worst ive seen in years

We have gone back to the Tigers of old the past 3 weeks. We were seduced after wins against Hawthorn but the reality is when the going get tough we crawl into our little shells yet again. Blues will demolish us in Rd 18. Why? Because they know we are weak as pee and we have players who aren't prepared to put their bodies on the line. Like Lethal said crack the egg and they are all soft inside.

Finals were near impossible after last week, now i can safely say its over

We are so poo we wont make finals

It was good to listen to Dimma's interview.  I think that our blokes are a bit run down after a tough start to the season and they have fought out each game hard and given their all, they need the bye.  Freo had come back from a bye when we played them.  The Giants played a pretty decent effort in the wet and...as I predicted the umpires were gushing all over them.  Batch needs a long hot shower to wash the stink off of him after being violated by that umpire, and probably some therapy.

Comment From Matt
Robbo i'm a Richmond supporter and i am concerned that they might be believing the hype after the Saints win. They have played very ordinary in the last 2 games. I think they are trying to finnese in the wet instead of playing wet weather footy. Thoughts?

Robbo:
Don't fret. If they kicked straight they would have won easily....
