Title: Who do you want in terms of trades and draft selections next year
Post by: 10 FLAGS on July 22, 2012, 07:20:09 PM
Ok well our season is once again done and dusted. So its time to do what we always do about now and that is to speculate on how the club should engage in trading and drafting. Fire away people!

1) best available player with first three picks. List balance with the rest.

2) poach a genuine CHF/KF from another club.

3) lure a decent back up ruck option and don't pay much for him.

4) nab a decent player via free agency.

First Round pick to GC and 400k to GC for Caddy as a start

Time to get serious Ramps we are pathetic at devloping our own so we might as well try and buy our success.

We have the money because lets face it outside of the cream the rest of our list is worth about a used condom

Would RFC look attractive to an out of contracted KP player ?

A back up ruckman for Ivan. Derickx is gone and so is Browne if he is not contracted. We are stuck with the King Island Cream Puff for another year and lets face it noone will be interested.

McIntosh, Hille, Hampson,

Get Caddy to the club plus another couple of midfielders one outside one inside.

A monster full back. Alipate Carlisle would be good.

Free up Griff at CHF.

Give captaincy to Cotch.

That should bolster our stocks and add some extra quality and depth for starters.

We need to get to a stage where blokes like Jako who are regulars now and pushed out of the side and blokes like Titch who some think he is coming along nicely and is a possible middle tier player now should be downgraded to a third tier standard of player because we have filled needs of depth and quality in the second tier that complement the class we have at the top.

We need a half back, but first picks go on talent.  If we can find another Ivan Marcic type great but don't spend too much on one

Delist -
Browne, Derrickx, MacDonald, Conners, Webberley, off the main list. (5)
Miller, A.Maric, Darrou, Wright from the Rookies list. (4)

Put Up For Trade
Newman, Post, Houli, Nahas, Jackson, Graham*, White*, McGuane* (8)

* Delist if no deals made.

Could end up with 8 Delistings: Browne, Derrickx, MacDonald, Conners, Webberley, Graham, White and McGuane.

In terms of who comes in too hard to tell at this stage but in the draft Im hoping for Mayes or Colquhoun with our 1st pick and I also like Montgomery from SA as well maybe a 2nd rounder here. Some VFL lads also deserve a chance like Dwyer, Martin and Cain whilst theres probably some decent players playing in the SANFL who are in their early 20s.

We will probably trade a pick for a ruckman and we should seek to bring in a player via free agency. Thats it for me. I dont think we will be very active at all. The 2013 draft seems much better anyway.

yeah thats it lets recruit another slow mid 180ish half back flanker

Caddy would fit nicely into our midfield. Cotch goes down then what?? we need cream in our midfield

your dreaming if you think Caddy isnt impressive

Hence why we should be using middle to late picks on state league players who are over 21 yo. IMHO.

We need to look at a club like St Kilda who have salary cap issues and raid them accordingly.

A kid like Siposs as a midfield half fwd given his age and size would fit in beautifully.

As far as types we need 2 more quality mids, another AFL standard ruck, a tall agile big-bodied defender, a quality CHF, quality small quick footy smart forward & quality lead-up footysmart midsized forward (another Nathan Brown).

I'll be quite happy with 3 picks roughly in the top 30 including our first pick at 7 (finishing 13th on the ladder).

1. GWS
2. GC
3. Melb
4. Melb
5. Dogs
6. Port
7. Rich (1st rounder)
8. Bris
9. Carl
10. Freo
...
19. Syd
20. GWS (PP)
21. GC (PP)
22. Melb (PP)
23. GWS
24. GC
25. Melb
26. Dogs
27. Port
28. Rich (compo)
29. Rich (2nd rounder)
...
47-50: Rich (3rd rounder)
Mid-late 60s: Rich (4th rounder)

7. Best available 18 y.o. draftee - which will probably be another gun ballwinner/midfielder.
28. Best available 18 y.o. draftee
29. Trade to score another decent ruckman (Swans have traded late 20s picks to poach young (21-23 y.o.) and upcoming rucks from other clubs - eg: Jolly/Mumford - to be Maric's understudy). I would then look to trade our way back into the 30s then use that on another best available 18 y.o. draftee
50?: Best available 18 y.o. draftee
68?: Top state league (VFL/SANFL/WAFL) 20-something player who has the speed and acceleration to play at AFL level. Obviously no one from Coburg!
PSD pick 6 - history says possibly slim pickings here. Pass

Free agent - key tall or clever quick midsized forward. Otherwise best available.

Newy will go onto the veterans' list freeing up a senior list spot and meaning one less rookie spot.

Need 7 senior list outs ignoring trades: Connors, MacDonald, Webberley, Derickx, White, McGuane, Graham (pay out)

Rookies:
out: Miller (retire), Heslin (gone home), Wright?
2-3 rookies in.

Rape gc / gws of some talent.

Trade our rubbish players for low picks.

Trade semi*rubbish for decent picks.

Sign our key players to longer contracts (cotch. Imaric. Rance)

Find a good free agent.

Draft well.

Find mature rookies late picks.

Find couple gun internationals.

Sign director of football and or steal ass coachs to help dimma.

Trade:
Jackson = too many undisciplined acts
Graham = One dimensional ruck, not mobile enough
White = not consistent enough for the amount of games played
Browne = old style ruck, too lumbering
Webberley =  something has happened but did not show desire to play
Addam Maric = Runs around looking for easy touches, cannot tackle and does not go hard
Miller = too slow and cannot kick - needed to make a bigger impact
MacDonald = been on list too long - has not cracked a game
McGuane = does not stand up in big situations

3 midfielders with our first 3 picks - our lack of depth in midfield is what kills us and it doesn't matter what KPPs we have if we can't get hands on the ball. Mature age ruckman as our backup with a later pick / PSD.

Hille will retire before playing for any other club.

We need a backup for Maric, a Clarke, Bellchambers, Goldstein.

We need a tall backman, and a tall forward if TV is going to perform like he did this year.

Can't believe I'm saying it . . . Cloke is available  :rollin

Caddy would be a great pickup, especially seeing Foley has those cotton achilles.

We need to invest in draft yes, but we also need some ready made players.

from club website

Richmond will activate its second round compensation selection at the 2012 AFL National Draft, to be held in November this year.

The Tigers were one of five league clubs to notify the AFL, before today’s 2pm deadline, that they would be activating their compensation pick at this year’s Draft.

Richmond received its round two selection from Port Adelaide, via the Gold Coast Suns in a trade, after compensation for the loss of Nathan Krakouer.

The pick will be taken in the second round of the National Draft, immediately following the round two selection of Port Adelaide

Based on what Ramps?
Based on this-
2nd and 3rd picks over the last 10 years

2nd pick- Tim Fleming
3rd pick- Bill Nicholls

2nd pick- Thomas Roach
3rd pick- Daniel Jackson

2nd pick- Richard Tambling
3rd pick- Danny Myers

2nd pick- Cleve Hughes
3rd pick- Travis Casserly

2nd pick- Shane Edwards
3rd pick- Daniel Conners

2nd pick-  Alex Rance
3rd pick-  Dean Putt

2nd pick- Jayden Post
3rd pick-  Tom Hislop

2nd pick-  Ben Griffiths
3rd pick-  David Astbury

2nd pick-  Jack Batchelor
3rd pick-  Bradley Helbig

2nd pick-  Todd Elton
3rd pick-  Matthew Arnot

Now i know that's going a fair way back but those drafts 7,8, 9 years ago should have produced the senior players we lack at present.
The last 4 drafts, out of those eight players, this year they have about 20 games between them.
It also shows us why we haven't played finals in the last 10 years. You cannot gain ground on the teams above you with only adding one player to your team most years through the National Draft where the best kids are in the country.
Pretty sad really when you break it down.
