The RFC website is counting down the top 20 Tiger trades of all time.
No.20 is Ben Harrison
Played 74 games for us b/w 1996-2000. Came to us via a swap in late 1995 for Justin Murphy who went to Carlton.

Its not actually the trade player x for player y, it's only focusing on the player we received.

Can I have a guess at No 1?

No.19: Troy Simmonds
Troy Simmonds arrived at Richmond during the AFL’s 2004 trade period, in a three-way deal, which also saw Aaron Fiora depart Tigerland for St Kilda, and Heath Black return to Fremantle, following a stint with the Saints.

Do you mean bigger as in height or weight?
Or do you mean bigger as in dud player?
Cos I think Troy was more than serviceable for a few years until his knees were knackered.
Here are a few names that are worse:Pitura, Jordi, and Thomson in recent years, the trade war with the pies in the 1980s saw us lose premiership players and gain John Annear, Craig Stewart, Wally Lovett, Neil Peart - I think Philip Walsh was in there too, how about Pitura in the 1970s- only cost us Teasdale. Did you like the Clinton King trade - lost a ruckman but at least we got Fiora.

No. 18: Shaun Grigg
After managing just 43 senior games with Carlton in four seasons, Grigg, seeking greater opportunities, was enticed to Richmond during the 2010 trade period, in exchange for Andrew Collins.
http://www.richmondfc.com.au/News/Article/tabid/6301/default.aspx?newsid=149486
-
I thought Grigga would have been higher than this. Methinks his position in the order will be reevaluated if we play finals in the next year or two.
The Hogg for Broderick/Gale/Dundas trade is a standout for me and should be right up there.
-
No 1 would have to be Ian Stewart
-
No 1 would have to be Ian Stewart
Have to be pretty close if it isnt.
-
No 1 would have to be Ian Stewart
probably , but only played 78 games, pretty bloody good ones I will admit
I reckon Paul broderick or Barry Rowlings
-
Barry Rowlings and Woosha Welsh were good pick ups for us back in the day and Johnny Annear was the one decent player we got out of the whole Collingwood / Richmond 1980s trade debacle.
-

and won a preimership and a brownlow.

No Paul Sarah or Graeme Landy ?????
Outrageous !!!!

Here's a beauty
2002 draft we offload pick 28 for Justin Blumfield.
Essendon use 28 to get Tristan Cartledge.
Tristan Cartledge then comes to Richmond via selection 33 of the rookie draft in 2007 just to
give the deal from 2002 more creedence.
Paul Hudson for pick 49.
How about this gem from 2001 worked out okay in the end I guess.
We swap Nick Daffy and pick 17 for Greg Stafford. Pick 17 was on traded to Geelong for James Kelly a 3 times premiership player.
What is criminal is our first pick in the one real super draft we have had was at 33 and we selected David Rodan. :help
63 Adam Houlihan
68 Chris Hyde
77 Marty McGrath.
RFC we salute you. :cheers
NOT :help
-
Would have thought Paul Broderick would be number 1 myself

I remember his elbows - they were great.
Good acquisition but cost us pick #17 in the 2001 draft from memory that got ontraded to geelong who picked up james kelly.
He single handely turned the game for us against hawks when we were around 50 odd points down and he took out Everitt.
Smart guy who didnt suffer fools...

Michael Gale was a legend. I will never forget the goal he kicked against Geelong in 1996 which set us on the way to a rare thumping of Geelong.
What about Tim Powell?

I'll never forget him kicking the ball 50m the wrong way in the 1995 Prelim against the Cats.
-
Mick Malthouse...effin hard as a cat's head premiership defender we grabbed from St.Kilda in the mid 70's. Loved the bloke
Mark Neeld....soft as butter hack taken from handbag Geelong in the 90's. Terrible
Terry Wallace....Full of himself flog taken from Hawthorn in the 80's. Disaster

My next nomination is.... Jeremy Humm
-
My nominations are two beauties from the Tanned Ones last draft.
Trade pick 42 to Port for Adam Thompson
Trade pick 58 to Essendon for Tom Hislop.
-
Craig Cameron
-
Francis also rated Hislop
Two prime examples of Cameron not being competent at trading - both players would have been delisted if we hadn't paid for them
At least he was smart enough to realise (or was told) that he was poo at it and hired Blair
-
Today's nomination...

Lack of opportunities, due to so much talent in Richmond’s ranks at the time, saw Walsh cleared to South Melbourne at the end of the ’68 season. I went up 3 very little hills and nearly died. Only just started running again after a long break - last competitive run was the GC Half Marathon in 2000. Knees hurt, calves burn and lungs fail but it's worth it in the end....................................isn't it? :huh

Being sore is better than being fat and poo. I eat like Fev but burn it off with exercise. Although it's harder these days without football. I'll be a fat man soon enough...like my old man Al.
Bugger running a marathon :lol You should have had a crack at the Burnie 10 today ;D
watch your lip boy. still got footy so i aint a fat man, yet...... although the recent 10 days of heavy beer consumption has given me a start :help

I went for a run the other night. Went up 3 big hills and by stuff did I feel it the next day. Almost had a hearty when I got home.

Better check first... do they take entries in the 80 years and older category?
Yeah anyone can enter, even Madtiger :thumbsup

What about the Shane Morrison trade? Was that a trade?
PMJB.
Blumfield? That was a cracker
I thought the best thing about the Kane Johnston trade was the Crows used pick 2 to get Carey!
Have they ever done a decent trade?
If they didn't balls up so many trades they'd be on their 8th successive flag

Nah Morrison was picked up in the draft not via trade

No.5: Robbie McGhie
An off-field incident, just a few weeks before the start of the ’73 season, led to McGhie departing the Bulldogs and joining Richmond.

I don't think these trades are in order are they? I thought the final order was part of a competition that will be announced shortly?

No.3: Paul Sproule
Spent four seasons at Essendon and been a member of the Bombers’ losing Grand Final side in 1968, but at the end of 1971 he was, somewhat surprisingly, traded to Richmond. The Tigers couldn’t believe their luck to secure the services of the highly-skilled midfielder for a moderate transfer fee of $2000.

Gun player.
I noticed in the highlight video he was being chaired off with his son. I hope the kid can play. It would be great to have another Broderick running around.

No.2: Barry Rowlings
Richmond originally attempted to recruit Barry Rowlings in the early 1970s, but missed out on getting him to Punt Road then, due to the fact he was playing for Moe, which was in Hawthorn’s country zone.
He quickly became a valuable contributor at Hawthorn, playing 72 games with the club, including the 1976 premiership win against North Melbourne, before departing the Hawks’ nest at the end of the 1978 season, following a serious knee injury.
Hawthorn felt he was finished as a player at the highest level because of his knee problems, but Richmond was confident that, even at age 28, he still had plenty to offer, and moved swiftly to sign him.

No.1: Ian Stewart
It’s fair to say no trade in the history of league football has attracted more publicity than the one that saw then dual St Kilda Brownlow Medallist, Ian Stewart, join Richmond, in exchange for dual Tiger premiership player, Bill Barrot, at the end of 1970.

I was mortified when we lost Billy Barrot. I loved his long raking drop kicks.
But Ian Stewart went on to become a legend of the game.
From the RFC article...
To this day, Stewart is the only player in league football history to have achieved the feat of winning a Brownlow Medal, and being part of a premiership team, at two different clubs.
And, just for good measure, he also happens to be a member of both Richmond’s and St Kilda’s Team of the Century.
-
Billy Barrot was also part of the greatest ever centre line of Bourke, Barrot and Clay.
:thumbsup

Growing Up i didnt want to be an astronaut,or a policeman,or a trapeze artist....I wanted to be Billy barrot.
cant remember which vid its on but i recall sheeds talking about how Billy marked the ball in front of him and then proceeded to show The MCG members the ball...Sheeds remembers thinking, ok showoff now you better drill this, and Billy did just that from an acute angle and about 60 metres out
