The Coburg Tigers have named another strong line-up for Saturday’s Round 2 VFL clash with Williamstown.

Matt Arnot has served a one-match suspension and has been named on the interchange bench.

:thumbsup
My only problem with having a reserves side is that if we have injuries we may be forced to play kids who are not ready. In 2014 will we still need VFL 'recruits' to fill the gaps?
-
What do you mean?
We will sign pure Richmond listed VFL players to cover injury.
I assume to play in the development league too?
-
Are we gonna beat Williamstown?
My guess is that with a suad like that we should smash them, quietly speaking.
-

Have said this before: We will be required to have a VFL only list of players, these are referred to as "top up" players to ensure we have a enough players to field a team in the VFL if we have excess injuries to AFL listed players - this is a requirement of the VFL liscencing agreement imposed on the AFL clubs wishing to stand alone in the VFL. Not sure of the minimum number but I think for memeory it is 10 or 12. Look at Geelong they have the other Selwood brother who used to play for Brisbane on their VFL list and is thier VFL captain. Collingwood up until this season had the other Pendlebury on their VFL list. Stand alone VFL teams usually target a couple ox ex AFL players and then top up with kids who've just missed out on being rookied

Have said this before too
The RFC will not field a team in the VFL development league. They don't have to and more improtantly are not allowed to, the development league is for traditional VFL clubs only and it is part of their licence agreement
Any RFC VFL listed (top up) player not selected to play for the VFL side will have to play for a team in a suburban league

Should be good viewing

Very sloppy early by both sides.
Still no score 4 mins in.

Be good if we knew which players were playing and their numbers, lol!

Carnell too slow and caught holding the ball for the second time in 7 mins. Gifts Willy a goal.

Good pressure by Mcbean forces the turnover. Arnot then kicks it to McBean 50m out. After the siren kick is OOTF.

A lot of Coburg listed players playing.

Thanks MT, good updates mate!

Stats:
nahas 9 possies (5k 4h)
O'Hanlon 6 possies (4k 2h)
Elton 4 (3k 1 h)
McIntosh 5 (4k 1h)
Edwards 3 .... pushed into defence.
Nahas was busy between the arcs. Not much else to write home about. Very messy footy as we're continually under pressure.
-
Good work Carnell and he finds Edwards on the lead 40m out. Point.
3 - 16
-
Willy go coast to coast into the breeze. Luckily the Willy player shanks the shot from just 20m out lol.

McIntosh marks defensive side of centre and then gets 50m. Kicks a point from 40m out.
Coburg then get it back but Vendetti kicks to the goal line and it's rushed for another point.

Astbury now on the ground (#79).
The ball comes off the Willy player's foot OOTF but the ump pays it against Coburg :huh. Thankfully no score to Willy.
-
Williams taken off after a knock to the head. I think he'll be okay.
Shocking handball in the backline by White to Nahas' feet and the turnover gifts Willy a goal against the breeze.
Cob 12
Willy 23
-
Terrible footy by Coburg. Coburg's long kick out of the backline to a contest on the wing is won by Willy and they goal on the counter. And then Willy get another from a poor defensive punch back into the corridor.

A replay could come up on iview

Griffiths chip kick in defence is spoiled but luckily Willy miss.
The next kick in to Coburg players is spoiled by one Willy player out of bounds. The resulting scrap from the throw-in leads to a Willy goal. Coburg's defence today has been terrible.

McBean 5
More kicks, handballs and marks to Coburg but we're behind in the inside 50 count 20-23.
Down in frees too 10-15.
The only consolation is Coburg couldn't play any worse so if they can 'click' they could turn it around in the second half. The breeze is making it tough out there but Willy is using it better. Coburg continually is using the defensive side of the ground.

The youngsters are showing up the older brigade.

MT, do you know why Vlastuin and Knights aren't playing today? Ordinarily this would be exciting as you'd surmise they are in the seniors tomorrow. But with none of the extended bench (bar Nahas) playing for Coburg either does this mean no change tomorrow?

LOL. Ump pays a shocker against O'Hanlon. Good tackle that is clear holding the ball yet the ump pays the free to Willy for too high when the guy ducked.
Stringer gets another.
Out the centre N.Maric takes to long with his shot and is caught. Coburg player collects and has a ping for a point.
Willy go coast to coast and Stringer kicks now 4 goals in a row.

Contested footy was down by 30 that qtr. Clarke put our 3 'best' mids in to stem the bleeding and it still didn't work. Clarke - "everything we spoke about broke down"

There's actually more Burger players out there than in previous weeks. Probably a 13-9 RFC/CFC split. Plenty of Richmond talls (actually too many talls) out there but few mids so Coburg depend more on the Burger mids this week. Losing Knights, Vlastuin, Helbig has hurt Coburg big time.

Geez Geez. I am up to 22min of the third.
79-43.
Think I might stop now.
Going forward the midfield should put up more of a show with Helbig, Knights , Foley, Lonergan & Vlastuin. 100 points loss is not acceptable. However it was always going to be very hard with our best five midfeilders outside the senior side missing. Thus leaving a very weakened team that was too tall.
-
bloody disgusted in this performance, to think I bet on cuburg :banghead...if i had of known Knights and vlas were out , may have saved me some coin ::)

my thoughts are that in such windy conditions the older bodies lasted the distance. We didnt spread well and put it down to an off day.
Thought McBean looked pretty good though. When he puts some size on he'll be decent at AFL level. Will take time though. Dont think anyone was pushing for selection
Nahas tried but nothing to warrant promotion. If only O'hanlon had an extra bit of pace!! He'd be much better.

Any RFC VFL listed (top up) player not selected to play for the VFL side will have to play for a team in a suburban league
Thank you for that information. How does this work? Do we need to list these players before the season starts in a Richmond VFL listed players format. Or can we at random sign them up to play a few games based on their form and injury and form of richmond senior and rookie listed players? Williamstown VFL listed players were quality. And the Footscray list seems quite deep. I look forward to next season very much. I am sure these suburban top up players will be superior to Groves, Abdallah, Robertella, and Anderson. Even Carnell....
If you can help me understand the answer to this that'd be wonderful.
What happens to afl listed players if team balance is an issue when we are stand alone. Today we played way too many talls. Do they play in another lower comp? Do we have 3rd's?
-
YES Bents The RFC will have to sign up and then lodge their VFL list of players prior to the season commencing. Cannot be added to once the season starts.
You have misunderstood what I mean about players going back to play in suburban leagues if they are not playing in the VFL. As Richmond will not have a team in the development league their excess players (VFL listed only not AFL listed) will need to be able to play somewhere. These players will go back to suburban leagues.

No idea how Whitey made the bests. Same goes for Carnell who was continually caught with the ball. Looks like another case of a journo just picking out the top stat getters.
Cleary and Rhys-Jones were going on about Coburg being a Richmond reserves side yesterday but the loss of Knights, Helbig and Vlastuin out of the midfield meant Coburg relied more on Burger smalls to be the ballwinners at the centrebounces and stoppages. No doubt many of our boys had games to forget but the Richmond players in yesterday's side were either talls or flankers/wingers. It was just an unbalanced line-up from a RFC perspective. Being too tall meant a tall had to sit on the bench and that restricted the rotations of the smalls.

Yes because when they play as a team they play better, common sense really. I don't blame RFC players in Coburg playing for themselves though, need to impress the coaches somehow and like it or not 30 disposals looks better than 10 and a few shepherds.

I would think that playing with a team first mentality rather than a me first menatality would impress the coaches more
I reckon a few 1%rs would make more of an impression than 30 meaningless kicks that went straight to the opposition or resulted in turnovers would

Obviously there will be some other things that would help but if you see a big ol' 30 in the disposal sheet you're gonna get a look at.
