Sorry folks didn't see it on my TV planner.
It is on first on Thursday night after the TFS at 10:30 but I still reckon though we can watch it on Thursday we can watch it on Sunday better to get ourselves nice and pumped up for a final against another reviled foe. Get into a frenzy tiger fans.

KB's classic launches new 'The Final Story' documentaries
By Michael Whiting

3:54pm AEST Tuesday, September 3, 2013

Episodes of The Final Story will air on Channel Nine at 10:30pm each Thursday in Melbourne beginning on September 5, and in Melbourne, Perth and Adelaide at 12:30pm each Sunday.

Footy fans in other states can purchase the programs on DVD from Monday 23rd September in AFL Stores and selected JB Hi Fi and Big W stores.

The series kicks off with the Tigers' big win in 1980 ...

Wayne Dyer (1980) and Peter Dickson (1966 and 1989) have produced the stories that capture that final Saturday in September, poring over hours of interviews with coaches and players to get the final product.

Dyer said he loved interviewing Tiger Dale Weightman, but Bartlett chose not to be interviewed.

Remember 1980 like it was yesterday...

What a glorious season it was some bigs wins over the season.

Last game I remember going to Lake Oval to watch South do us, we lost top spot on the ladder.

People we writing us off I even had my doubts but we came out and fixed up the Blooze at Waverley, TJ and Percy had a coming together at quarter time.

Following week it was the cats turn at Waverley.

Then the big dance, the pies who had made it from 5th had some scribes thinking it was their time..oh how wrong were they.

Dare to Dream RFC just never know!!!

One thing I noticed is all the blokes who played even someone like Stephen Mount come across as real characters and winners. Lots of leaders in there. Looking at our current squad we seem lacking in a few of these areas.

Michael Roach my childhood hero. What a humble great of this footyclub. :thumbsup
My first RFC footy jumper had the number 8 on it.
Loved him as kid and is still a legend in my eyes. :gotigers

Whole poo!
Just watched that after a few Grey Gooses on a finals Friday night.
What a story!
Almost makes you feel a little emotional.
I'm now 40 years old and don't remember much about 1980 but I remember watching the video a lot but what I just watched gives me a different insight of that game and year.
So pumped for that feeling that playing super rules next year is an option.
F:~k I hope we win on Sunday.
This club, our passionate supporters, the OER, the AFL,  myself and my baby girl need to see the Tigers up and about again.

Just finished watching it this morning. Pretty moving stuff. If that can't inspire our blokes to fire up tomorrow then nothing will.

Big wow. So much leadership/character. Don't think we have that at the moment.

Loved it.
Some really fantastic footage that I've never seen and seeing my childhood hero The Ghost really brings back great memories.
I can't wait til we are feared by all the other clubs, and to hear people say once more "Oh crap we got the Tigers this weekend".

I was there in 1980, and I only remember bits and pieces of the game. I most remember seeing Hungry and the Ghost in action but most of all the roar of the crowd with every goal kicked. We then sang the song like you wouldn't believe.

There will be more opportunities coming soon, and I plan to take my whole family there to see it all when we next win the big one.

Go Tigers, smash those blue baggers this weekend.

This is whats missing from our current list. Very few if any players with presence in the team.

Re-watched the 1980 GF the other night. It's more enjoyable to watch it knowing now it no longer is our last flag and a constant reminder of years of failure. Eerily similar to last year's GF where the opposition (Pies) hung in for 20 mins before we demolished them. Just like now too we destroyed them with our teamwork backing each other up, our pace on the spread and our fast direct footy to our forwards. KB deserved the Norm Smith (that goal against Magro is still my all-time favourite) but Jimmy Jess was best on in the first half when the game was alive. The tragedy of that team will always be that it didn't go on to win another thanks to our off-field stupidity.

The biggest difference between then and now is the massive difference in how the game was umpired. There would be a whistle for a ball-up if even just two players were fighting over the same ball and it didn't immediately come out. Not wait half-an-hour for 30 players to run to the contest and jump all over each other. Push in the back was paid even for a slight nudge with the body let alone use of the hands. Holding the ball was paid against ALL illegal disposal. No such thing as prior opportunity either in those days so players would knock the ball on rather than take possession and get caught.

Obviously, a more a positional game back then too so there was little congestion nor defensive/zone structures.

I agree MT. Umpiring was much simpler then.
The other Big difference from then and now is that the interchange was rarely used.
I’m an advocate for KBs call for no interchange bench except for injuries, getting rid of the prior opportunity rule. And teaching umpires to pay the indiscretions as stated in the rule book.
Hold the player off the ball - free kick.
Push in the back - free kick.
You do not dispose of footy by hand or foot when tackled - free kick.

I’m hoping they at least drop interchange to a maximum of 4/quarter as a trial next year.

My only issue with the idea of reducing the cap on interchange is in its attempt to reduce congestion by fatiguing the players will it cause an even further decline in skill level. It's a compromise situation.

As for subs: The problem these days is players lose their match-fitness base by being subs. That's why the AFL got rid of them again. A coach would have to constantly rotate his subs to and fro from the ressies every week. It wasn't an issue back in 1980 as footballers were only semi-pro at best. They worked a job on weekdays and trained only 2-3 nights.
