BTW 10 minute wait to the Rookie Draft
-
Catching their breathe. :shh
-
Callum Twomey: Well, not much of a surprise then, was there? There was a chance Richmond would take Banfield as a pre-season pick to get ahead of the Lions in the rookie draft but will now look to the rookie picks if they want him.
-
10 minutes is needed. It would take a while for the clubs to absorb and digest the enormity of what just happened.
-
:lol
Pass would have been available in the rookie draft. Backwards again, :banghead
-
Waiting, waiting
Why are we waiting ;D
-
PSD Pick 7 - Pass.
We must have been keen on this guy called "Pass" as we selected him twice ;D.

END OF ROOKIE DRAFT
-
So is there another draft to be had before 2014 ? I'm particularly interested in the draft where we choose a handful of young kids like which used to be done on national draft day instead of grabbing 23 and 24 yr olds...which used to be done in the psd ! I noticed the other 17 clubs still use national draft day to draft kids.
Are we too clever for the other 17 clubs ?
-
We are defiantly not topping up.
Please get your facts straight.
Stuffing hell.
-
I think I willbe agreeing with Claw when he starts to post on the drafts.
The lack of kids chosen is mind boggling
-
Anthony Miles. Great pick up. :clapping :clapping :clapping Makes up for Banfield :lol
I agree Tigs, I watched this kid play a fair bit and he has ability. :thumbsup Averaged 18 disposals and racked up 27 possies against Freo in 2012. Didn't get a whole lot of time on the field this year but the kid is a tough nut with a cool head. I have to admit that I was surprised that GWS discarded him but when you have the wealth of midfielders that they do its easy to burn players that don't exactly fit into your plans.

Could have got him with our 3rd pick though. :banghead :lol
But seriously he can play. Ready-made and has upside unlike other guys we've taken in the rookie drafts of last few years. Banfield might even be ok injury free but that's a big IF at this stage.

Will reserve final judgment on this draft period until after the boxing day test

Richmond
We say
For the second straight year, the Tigers have largely gone for mature-age talent. Shaun Hampson, Nathan Gordon and Sam Lloyd have already been added, along with young gun Ben Lennon, and the additions of rookies Todd Banfield (pick No.11), Anthony Miles (No.27) and Matt Thomas (No.42) – all from AFL clubs – will give them greater depth after the relative success of Ricky Petterd, Troy Chaplin, Aaron Edwards and Chris Knights (before his knee injury) last year. Petterd has been promoted and Orren Stephenson is back for another rookie season, with the extra injection of experience to complement the progression of the Tigers' recent draftees. – Jennifer Phelan

Pretty shrewd selections by the tiges , have improved our depth no end. Batting pretty deep down at punt rd these days, nice work fj........again :clapping
-
no surprises really. and no real complaints ive always said this is where you take mature players.
the biggest gripe i have is the lack of 18 yr olds taken.
no one will be able to persuade me that at the very least picks 12 and 50 should have gone on kids.
on those rookied im not keen on banfield. besides im asking again how many bloody sml/med forwards do we need. hes been cut from brisbane for a reason i would have prefered he go back to a state league and develop and improve his game over the next yr or two and then have a crack at him if he ticks the boxes.
am not keen on matt thomas either he at least has come off a dominating season and like i said if you are going to take a risk its here you should take it.
finally ive said fairly regularly that the tall stocks are in strife i would have loved to see us rookie a ruckman and another kpd. ah well not to be.
-
I hope they know what theyre doing bc on face value 1 kid from 7 picks seems pretty extreme
-
How old is Miles? 20?
Bloody journeyman aye.
-
Yep 20, already delisted after 13 games in two seasons with the bottom side.
-
Defending premiers or wooden spooners, you should always be bringing in kids. If we're not careful, at this rate, Hardwick could leave this list in virtually the same state Lyon left St.Kilda's - minus the Grand Final experience.
Claw's right about the lack of talls...key position talls more to the point....needed at least another ruck....worrying we don't have at least one developing young specialist ruckman ....or are we just going to keep recycling 25 year-olds from other AFL clubs from now on?
And we're still completely stuffed if Chaplin goes down.

That's the most disturbing avatar I've ever seen :clapping

Lloyd and Gordon are early 20's not exactly stegosauruses.

22 in feb or before the season starts.
-
Lloyd and Gordon are early 20's not exactly stegosauruses.
both turn 24 before the start of the season not exactly juniors either. in fact for their type they should have well and truly clicked by now.
as i have repeatedly said i dont have a problem with us taking gordon and lloyd its where we took em and the abysmal lack of kids taken.
idont think we have addressed any of the serious list needs in a significant way.
ican tell ya all now. even if we won a premiership id still be dead set against taking just one kid in an entire trade nd period.
im still shaking my head. if we are locked and loaded as it seems we must be why did we not go after chapman instead of many similar types who have not proven a thing.
im not even sure we have addressed the mid field short comings yet alone added depth to the ruck and kpp problems we have.

I think the club may have read too many of claws posts about mature state league types and become infatuated with them.
It is painfully obvious to see that they overlooked kids that they actually rate higher, just to satisfy their overwhelming urge to top up with players who are past their prime.
After all, if you think about about it, the idea that they just picked the players they rated as the best prospects, and that this year it happened that these old codgers rated higher than the kids available, is just so outlandish it is incomprehensible.
-
Took more kids than any other club last year
Calm the farm

You may well be right claw, but I'd give the new recruits a chance before you start shaking your head. It's amazing how some people pull their thumb out when given a second chance. They might just surprise you!
