Title: Dreamtime at the 'G, Round 11 2014 - Richmond vs Essendon
Post by: WilliamPowell on February 25, 2014, 07:21:19 AM
Just received an Members' email regarding ticketing for 2014.

Key points:

1. Dreamtime at the 'G is fully ticketed this year

this means there will be NO walk ups, you must pre-purchase a ticket/seat. This includes those with 16 game m'ships

Full details here:
http://www.richmondfc.com.au/tickets/dreamtime-at-the-g-ticketing

2. Variable Pricing for games
HQ has introduced a new pricing structure pricing for games. This means seating at "blockbuster" games will now be more expensive than other "lesser" games. All games will be graded

The grades are:

A-Reserved (fully ticketed)
A-Game
B-game
C-Game

Full details here:

This year marks the 10th anniversary of the marquee game between the Tigers and Bombers during the AFL’s celebrated Indigenous Round.

Richmond will soon unveil its 2014 Dreamtime guernsey, which features a unique Indigenous design that its players will wear especially for the match.

The Tigers’ VFL team also will play Essendon’s VFL team at 2pm on Saturday, May 31 at ME Bank Centre’s Punt Road Oval, in a curtain-raiser to this year’s Dreamtime at the ‘G clash.

Full details of activities during the Indigenous Round will soon be available on richmondfc.com.au.

Richmond has launched a limited number of Dreamtime Tiger memberships ahead of the annual ‘Dreamtime at the ‘G’ blockbuster against Essendon in Round 11.

Not the point, it is 56% increase on last year, not 5%, 10% but over 50% that's a disgrace

And they wonder why folks aren't going to the footy.

They can't afford it.

I hear you WP. $27 last year and add the additional $2.50 for ezy ticket and that's over $40 for a reserved seat for someone who has a 16 game membership with a reserved seat for home games and a 3121 membership to boot. They are bleeding us dry. Lucky my daughter isn't old enough to come. It is an absolute outrage this and daylight robbery.

However I choose to pay this but I can fully understand when some mates don't want to come to away games because they don't want to fork out excessively for seats unless they are sitting in YY or ZZ right up the back. Sitting in N29 BTW. :thumbsup

Yep I make the choice to Don, but when you are buying for the elderly it is expensive for them. Because on the cost of a seat there is no discount for pensioners. So what I was doing was only telling them the old price. Was working a treat until they found out  ;D

Think we are in either N28 or n29 can't remember  :P

The Dreamtime at the 'G clash shapes as a season-defining contest for both clubs.

RICHMOND restored some pride after a difficult season with a thumping win over Greater Western Sydney last week, and Jack Riewoldt kicked 11 goals. Riewoldt used to enjoy playing against the Bombers but in recent times has been well held by Jake Carlisle and Michael Hurley, and has only booted six goals in his past three games against Essendon. Having had their bye last week, the Bombers should enter the annual Dreamtime at the 'G game fresh and ready to go in what could be a season-shaping match for them after a tough start to the year.

WHERE AND WHEN: MCG, Saturday May 31, 7.45pm

LAST FIVE TIMES
R23, 2013, Richmond 15.14 (104) d Essendon 9.11 (65) at the MCG
R9, 2013, Essendon 13.13 (91) d Richmond 9.8 (62) at the MCG
R22, 2012, Richmond 13.24 (102) d Essendon 8.9 (57) at the MCG
R8, 2012, Essendon 19.14 (128) d Richmond 15.19 (109) at the MCG
R16, 2011, Essendon 15.15 (105) d Richmond 9.12 (66) at the MCG

THE SIX POINTS
1.  Despite their patchy form, the Bombers continue to find the ball, ranking second for total disposals this season. They average 406 a game.

2.  The Tigers will be looking to close down the Bombers' chip-chip style. Under Mark Thompson, the Bombers have taken more marks this season than any team with 1102.

3.  Alex Rance will be an important player as the Tigers look to hold Essendon to 10 or fewer goals for the seventh consecutive game. The Richmond defender was excellent last week with 21 disposals.

4.  Ben Lennon has taken no time showing his talent at the top level. Richmond's first draft pick last year kicked two goals on debut against Melbourne and had 16 disposals, including eight marks, against the Giants.

5. These contests are always hard for tipsters. Of their past 10 meetings, both clubs have won five apiece, with form generally no solid guide.

6. Fresh from his 36-dipsoal effort against the Giants last week, Dustin Martin is back in form. That's reflected in the Official AFL Player Ratings, brought to you by Gatorade, where Martin has had successive rises in the past two weeks. He's ranked 80th in the competition now.

Prediction: Essendon by 12 points

From Dimma's press conference today ...

There's no doubt last week's landslide win will count for little if the Tigers can't bring the same level of intensity against an opponent that is in a similar position to them.

Hardwick said they had spoken about that fact after the game and were ready to face a side that was suffering the same inconsistent struggles with its forward line.

"I think both sides have been playing below the standard of expectation," he said.

"We're both in a similar boat – we're ticking over a few wins but we're not playing anywhere near the expectation our fans, coaching staff and players have expected.

"I think we can see our game is starting to get back up and going. We probably played more to the style of last year that people are more keen on seeing and we're keen on playing.

"We look forward to seeing that on Saturday."

Hardwick said the Tigers' ball movement and scoring ability had been better against the Giants but compared their recent attacking woes to that of the Dons.

He said the Bombers had also been stymied by players performing as individuals and not as a collective, with the often talked-about plight of Jake Carlisle similar to what Jack Riewoldt has endured.

While the coach admitted he wouldn't mind having a player like Carlisle at Punt Road, he hoped it wasn't on Saturday night that the combination of the reluctant forward and Joe Daniher fired.

"They've got a formidable forward line and probably like us it hasn't been functioning well," he said.

"Eventually their goals will come – I just hope it's not this week against us."

Weather forecast for Saturday is for rain to develop during the afternoon. So it'll be interesting to see if there's any late changes if it's going to be wet weather footy.

By the way, the bookies have Essendon as favourites:

Richmond   $2.20 (in from $2.30)
Essendon   $1.68

Best thing Abbott could do is push the pr1ck through the plate glass window of whatever corporate box they are watching it from.  Racist hypocritical scumbag who has allowed the system to elevate to him to lofty heights denied most of our population and then tries to align himself with the 'oppressed'.  Lost me completely when he trashed that poor 13 year old kid who had no clue or intent that what she said was racist in any way, shape or form.  And then used his 'Australian Of The Year' speech to promote racism and devisive policy.  He is a maggot of the highest order.

I was racist to an Asian kid at school when i was ten. Called him 'greasy' during a footy game. He rightly bopped me on the nose and I apologized for it later.

Can't stand the lowlife Willy and it all started over that incident with the young girl.  Took the high moral ground and pimped and pranced like a prima donna, and when it all came out the poor girl had no clue that she had said anything racist.  I abhor racism in any form but that wasn't racist - she was a kid who shouted out a name that any of us would have used in a school playground at the age with no thought of any adult connotations of the word "ape".  "Big hairy ape" - yep, exactly what he looks like to a kid supporting the opposition team, regardless of the colour of his skin.  And to take such injured and unforgiving offence to it shows him to be the shallow and hypocritical person he is.  Then when he went on his rant in his AOTY speech it just cemented to me that he is 100% comfortable to live life with all the trappings that our society and country can provide to all who are fortunate enough to have the skills or talents that allow access to that lifestyle, yet tries to identify with those who haven't had the same opportunities and then blames the colour of his skin for the injustice.  Plenty of us from English, European, Arabic, African and Asian background who haven't had the same opportunities for a myriad of reasons but this sanctimonious anuswipe points his finger at skin colour and says that the white-skinned population owe him and his kin a recognition and debt.  No-one in our country and society owes anyone else anything - we are all citizens of Australia and are all responsible for what happens to us individually and collectively.  Racists like Goodes aren't interested in creating a better society for us all to live in, they are only interested in promoting the cause of a select few at the expense of everyone else.

Nope, I don't believe she did Dan.  I've got grandkids her age and I hear them talking and playing, and I don't think for a moment she considered skin colour when she said it.  At 13 we would call European kids "wogs" and other names, Asian kids "Chinks" and other names, Aboriginal kids "Choc" and other names, and in return we would get called "Whitey" etc etc.  We would also call tall kids "Stretch", fat kids "Fatso", hairy kids "Ape", short kids "Stumpy" etc etc.  Reality is everyone copped it because that's what kids did then and still do now.  But our challenge is to educate our kids that when they become old enough to make reasoned and mature life decisions that they understand the need to treat each and every person they meet and deal with in life as an equal.  We get that right and then we can let our kids be kids, and we can concentrate our adult energies on making society better for all of us.

One thing Anglo Australians are terrible at in the face of the real world and its citizens, is casual racism. Look it up if you dont get it.

Just because its somewhat well intentioned and humorous to some doesnt make it any less offensive to others. I dont particularly get my kicks over alot of the 2000's PC stuff but its one area I think we get wrong IMO.

Bomber Thompson and Essendon playing funny buggers on whether Joe Daniher will play or not.

---------------------------------------------------------------

At Bomberland, Thompson said Joe Daniher could yet line up in tomorrow night’s MCG blockbuster against Richmond — despite axing the budding star last night.

“He might (play VFL), he might play AFL yet,” Thompson chirped on Friday.

“The squad’s not really determined (and) there’s a few concerns that have to get through.”

Daniher was named at full-forward in the VFL and is an AFL emergency, participating in today’s light session at Tullamarine with the senior Bombers.

Do we put that down to table talk or are changes really in the wind?

Tigers coach Damien Hardwick doesn’t seem to believe Thompson is bluffing.

He said yesterday Richmond spies were expecting the same Essendon attack despite its inability to fire this year.

“(At) their training yesterday they worked on their forward line structures, so we’ve just got to make sure we nullify those really good players up there,” Hardwick said, naming Daniher and Jake Carlisle.

Anyhoot, whats all this about Goodes AOTY speech being hipocritical? Id love to know why an am honestly open to calling it on its merits.

It's not fair to point the finger at Anglo Australians Dooks. When I came to Australia from England I was as Anglo as you can get, and I got called a pommy bastard for my troubles. We moved around a lot, so I made sure I lost my Pommy accent by the time I started at my next school. Seems that pommy bastard is the one offensive phrase that hasn't been wiped out in this new touchy feely everyone must be respected police state that we find ourselves in. If you don't believe me, refer to last summer's cricket thread (and yes, I support the Aussies too.)

Hope we can win tonight....hoping that despite the feeble opposition last week ...somehow we have our mojo back.

Lost the past two Dream time at the G ...infact Essendon have looked like flag favourites in both those games only to become an empty shell when we play them latter in the year..

After a disastrous start to 2014...this is our grand final.

we were in training at work a few weeks back and a fellow tiger supporter mentioned Jack was his favourite player and when asked why, he said, "just bc he's a ranga and everyone hates rangas". Now there was a red haired lady next to me and even though she tried to smile it off, I could tell she was quite uncomfortable with that comment. Just bc you're not black doesn't mean stereotyping doesn't hurt too.

That young Collingwood supporter/goodes incident, I think was handled disgracefully by Goodes, the afl and Collingwood. She probably knew what she said imo, but that doesn't mean she should be tarred for life. Why hasnt some sort of public follow up been done where they can share with all and sundry that she has since been educated with the help of the AFL and Collingwood football club and that Goodes is showing some class by openly forgiving her bc shes just a young kid trying apologise and become a more enlightened individual. It could have been a genuine feel good, good news story that would have done wonders for the issue. Instead what it has done is create a sense of anger and hostility amongst some in the community. I find that im actually angry at Goodes for the way that young kid has been put through the ringer, and that's not a good thing. On one hand you campaign for apologies from past wrongs and on the other you wont forgive or give a poo about a kid with a loose tongue. For mine he is a hypocrite and the afl and pies are gutless bc they are too afraid to try and do anything for the kid in case they are construed as being sympathetic to the terrible racist

Have a feeling this could be our turning point, we have some confidence in ourselves and game plan even with a GWS win. Wins are so crucial regardless who they are against.

Essendon are going small, have lost Hurley who is a huge out. Means that Fletcher will be made accountable for the first time in 30 years. Jack loves the Dons, coming off 11 you'd think he'll be up and about. Also coming off the bye, teams always seem to struggle coming off a bye.

I remember when Bomber Thompson was under pressure and all but sacked by Geelong after giving their fans hope with some good improving years and a horrible start in 2006 I think. Came out and flogged us at Etihad by 20 goals, Richo was thrown into the ruck.. Since that day Geelong reached their potential of their list, never looked back and have been a powerhouse.

Have a feeling our win against GWS can be a similar turning point. We will beat the drug cheats tonight and roll on. Pretty full side, bombers not playing overly well, we have some momentum.. Must win!

It's going to come down to the midfield battle and our attitude. If we can at least break even with them in terms of intensity & pressure, contested footy and clearances then I can see us winning with our talls. However, if we come out mentally switched off and dish up lazy, second to the ball, skill-less crap like we did in last year's Dreamtime and a number of games this year then of course we'll get done. We should find out which mindset we have tonight in the first quarter.

It's like they have there pants pulled down in front of 80000+ people and the whole crowd is pointing at their tiny dick and laughing at them.

This happens every big match.

They are the laughing stock of the AFL.

Titch, Dusty, Cotchin the only tryers out there.
Dimma can't coach a bunch of flys on a poohouse wall. Bring Rewoldt into the game & have Griffiths who has no idea stand in the square like the dummy he is & drag one of their defenders back.  Maric is not up to the pace & l'm sure his half concussed. no-one talking & too much over use of the ball when they need to move it long & quick. We have given them 6 goals

Cotch's summary for the bad loss:

Basic skills errors.

Lost contested possessions by 15.

Lost contested possessions in the centre by 21.

Lost tackles.

Losing both contested possession and tackle count means we didn't work hard enough.

Thought we got our gameplan up and running but it was spoiled by basic skill errors and turnovers.

Thought we got our gameplan up and running but it was spoiled by basic skill errors and turnovers.

lulz

goes a bit deeper than just stats matey

They are all delusional at punt road.

Oh for f's sake, stop defending space and actually put pressure on the opposition! Bloody Dimmas infatuation with Ross Smith and his defensive coaching role, he takes it from stats and has guys defending where they think the ball is going to go! Opposition sides just know to give us no room, defend hard and press and we will cough it up!  I haven't once in the last 4 years see us get up in the dace if the opposition ball carrier constantly and repeatedly over the course of 4 quarters like others do to us.  We just run around filling holes where we think the stars tell us that the ball is going to go! FFS Ross Gide it away, you were no good at Abers and you're no fn good here. And Dimma if you can't see this crap then throw the towel in and let someone else have a go because we are sick and tired of watching limp dicked basketball defence.

Hardwick giving players a spray for not manning up.

Are we playing man on man now? Thought we play a press / zone protecting space. I'm confused. I'm sure the players are too

Boys you have  to let the club go and concentrate on family, much better value for money

Got there quarter time left 20 mins into the second, to see my kids before they went to bed

Heart is not in it anymore to watch a full game when we dish that up. They don't give a stuff about the jumper why should you.

No point ruining your weekend over a bunch of mormons

Knew it was going to be one of those nights when Fletcher kicked a running goal from 50 after 30 seconds. Got strange looks all game from both sets of supporters a I spent much of the game laughing hysterically. It's all I could do.

Hard for younger players to perform when there is no leadership and no marshaling of the troops
Example being McDonough
Seen him " spectating " in last quarter .easy goal to Essendon as a result
What should happen is the a senior player goes and grabs him by the jumper and says this how it should be done
What did happen kids drops his head and makes the same mistake 2 mins later
There lies the problem and that's why we can't develop younger players
Problem is now that this kid will need to go back to the twos to get some confidence  as he has picked up some bad issues already in his short career

In my whole entire life supporting Richmond the only real captain we've had is Matthew Knights. I can't think of anyone post 83 who has been any sort of leader.

Feel for Cotch, it's not an easy job. No1 else could do it. We don't develop leadership. What is the club doing to help Cotchin become a better leader? Is he doing any external PD? A phone call from Cam Ling or Brett Kirk? Michael Voss even? A leadership course?

Club does nothing to develop this area.

All clear from the MRP including Hocking bumping Lennon in the head ...

The match day report against Essendon’s Heath Hocking for making forceful contact from front-on against Richmond’s Ben Lennon was assessed. The ball is loose and Lennon is attempting to take possession. Hocking approaches the loose ball and attempts to gain possession. It was the view of the panel that Hocking was contesting the ball and had no realistic alternative way to contest the ball. No further action was taken.

I reckon all they have to do is get rid of 10 or so spuds and bring in some hard players.

Cotch would look a lot better in a decent side

That rule is a absolute joke. Its there to protect the players head. It may as well be delete from the rule book. Along with many of their other stupid rules
